WARB-ATL-6681xCrosby, Stills & Nash
Crosby, Stills and NashRanked 259/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
One of the most enduring musical partnerships of our time, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) are revered for their peerless vocal harmonies, inspired songwriting and musical virtuosity. When the trio first sang together at a friends Laurel Canyon house in 1968, their uncanny harmonic convergence was immediately apparent, and CSN took shape. Each member came to the new venture from other high-profile bands, Crosby from the Byrds, Stills from Buffalo Springfield and Nash from the Hollies, and together they formed that rarest of musical entities, a supergroup that lived up to its billing.
CSNs stunning 1969 self-titled debut album is one of the true masterpieces of the rock n roll canon. The album made it all the way to #6 on the Billboard charts and delivered two Top 40 Pop singles with Marrakesh Express and Suite: Judy Blue Eyes. Also features the CSN classics Guinnevere, Wooden Ships, Helplessly Hoping and Long Time Gone.
Crosby, Stills & Nash are a most important part of the brilliant history at Atlantic Records. The uniqueness of their vocal blend, as well as the uniqueness of each solo voice, made them the top vocal group in the world, and they are still today thrilling millions of fans they have accumulated over the years. Neil YoungWhether as a singer, a songwriter or a guitarist, Neil Young has been one of the most influential and important artists of the rock era. Blending folk, country and rock, the acoustic and the electric, the melancholy and the hopeful, Young has been an icon for the uncompromising and unpredictable since the 1960s.
His self-titled 1968 solo debut album, following his exit from Buffalo Springfield, bridged what was and what would be. Although the eponymous release was his only album not to chart, it featured the classic track The Loner and marked the launching point of an illustrious solo career. Fever TreeFever Tree's lone hit single, the haunting 1968 tribal anthem San Francisco Girls (Return of the Native), perfectly captured the spirit of the psychedelic era. Although their signature hit led many to assume that they were a Bay Area band, Fever Tree actually hailed from Houston, Texas. San Francisco Girls quickly emerged as a staple of American underground Fm radio, and won the band an international audience after becoming an airplay favorite of influential British DJ John Peel.
San Francisco Girls is also the centerpiece of Fever Tree's self-titled first LP, one of the period's most distinctive debut efforts. As the album demonstrates, the quintet was adept at incorporating jazz and classical influences, ambitious song structures and resourceful production touches. Such memorable numbers as The Sun Also Rises and Come with Me (Rainsong benefit from Dennis Keller's hypnotic vocals, Michael Knust's dynamic guitar work and Rob Landes' inventive keyboard textures. Also included is a memorable medley of the Beatles' Day Tripper and We Can Work It Out, and a unique interpretation of the Neil Young/Buffalo Springfield nugget Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing. Fever Tree's expansive musical settings also feature key contributions from a pair of noted arrangers: David Angel, renowned for his work of Love's Forever Changes and Gene Page, whose resume includes work with the likes of Phil Spector and Marvin Gaye.
Fever Tree would release three more well-received albums, before disbanding at the dawn of the 1970s. Recent years have seen a resurgence of interest in the band's vintage work, and this one-of-a-kind debut album remains a deeply compelling sonic artifact.
The vinyl edition of this vintage gem is mastered from the original analog tapes, features complete original cover art and is pressed on high quality, high-definition vinyl, the better to recapture the original magic of this timeless album.1. Imitation Situation 1 (Toccata and Fugue)

Super Session (1968) was conceived by Al Kooper and features the work of guitarists Mike Bloomfield and Stephen Stills. Kooper and Bloomfield had previously worked together on the sessions for the ground-breaking classic Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan. For Super Session, Kooper recruited keyboardist Barry Goldberg and bassist Harvey Brooks, both members of the Electric Flag, along with well-known session drummer "Fast" Eddie Hoh.
On the second day of recording, with the tapes ready to roll, Bloomfield did not show up. Kooper hastily called upon Stephen Stills, also in the process of leaving his band Buffalo Springfield. Regrouping behind Stills, Kooper's session men cut mostly vocal tracks, including "It Takes A Lot to Laugh, It Takes A Train to Cry" from Highway 61 and a lengthy and atmospheric take of "Season of the Witch" by Donovan.
The album peaked at #12 on the Billboard 200, and has been certified a Gold record. The success of this record opened the door for the "supergroup" concept of the late 1960s and 1970s - Blind Faith, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and the like.1. Albert's Shuffle

Bluenote CafeRecorded at various shows during Neil Young and Bluenote CafÉ's 1988 tour, this superb live set documents one of Neil's most funky and heartfelt periods, featuring 7 unreleased songs - Soul of a Woman, Bad News Comes to Town, Ain't it the Truth, I'm Goin', Crime of the Heart, Doghouse, Fool for Your Love, - and a searing 19+ minute version of the immortal Tonight's the Night at The Pier in New York City. It was a wild night.
One of the most influential artists of all time, Neil Young has set a standard of artistic integrity and iconoclastic creativity. Before starting his multi-platinum solo career, he was a founding member of the folk-rock band Buffalo Springfield and worked with the groups Crazy Horse and Crosby, Stills and Nash. The Canadian singer-songwriter was recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 for his work as a solo artist and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1982.
Young's philanthropic work is as renowned as his musical legacy. His famous Bridge School Benefit Concert has become a yearly tradition since 1986 and continues to boast an incredible line-up of high-profile artists. Each year, Young donates all of the proceeds to the Bay Area's Bridge School, which assists children with severe physical impairments and complex communication needs. He was also one of the original founders of Farm Aid in 1985, and continues to be an active member on the organization's board of directors.LP1

Super Session (Speakers Corner)The musicians are aiming high with their desire for a "Super Session", for it's not something that can be planned. Only when the time, place, and audience play along, when one's lucky star is shining brightly, and the musicians have a good day, then one of music's great moments might be captured on tape. Not forgetting the recording technicians who also have to be in the mood!
In 1968 this all happened to be the case with the majority of the nine numbers on the Columbia LP: Season Of The Witch (written by Donovan) in its present version is one of them, as well as You Don't Love Me and the Dylan classic It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry. All in all, one must consider the numbers with Steve Stills as most successful in the sense of a session because here each musician inspires the others. In the super session with Kooper and Bloomfield, the guitarist stands in the limelight while the other musicians back him up.
Very often the three soloists even surpass the greatest moments of their own groups (Al Kooper's Blood, Sweat & Tears; Mike Bloomfield's Electric Flag; Steven Stills's Buffalo Springfield). In 1968 the magazine Rolling Stone judged this album to be one of the best releases of the year: an accolade which is completely justified and is still valid to this day. What better reason to get your copy of this "highly recommended" album without delay.

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.Albert's Shuffle

The 32-song soundtrack from the film was originally released on July 6, 1994. The soundtrack includes songs from Elvis Presley, Fleetwood Mac, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Aretha Franklin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Three Dog Night, The Byrds, The Doors, The Mamas & the Papas, The Doobie Brothers, Simon & Garfunkel, Bob Seger, and Buffalo Springfield, among others. Music producer Joel Sill reflected on compiling the soundtrack: ''We wanted to have very recognizable material that would pinpoint time periods, yet we didn't want to interfere with what was happening cinematically.'' The two-disc album has a variety of music from the 1950s-1980s performed by American artists. According to Sill, this was due to Zemeckis' request, ''All the material in there is American. Bob (Zemeckis) felt strongly about it. He felt that Forrest wouldn't buy anything but American.''
Forrest Gump: The Soundtrack is one of the most successful movie soundtrack albums of all time. The album - like the film - instantly captured the heart of America, going into the top 10 of Billboard's Pop Album chart and shipping over 1 million units in its first few weeks of release. This timeless double album of American Classics has since been certified DIAMOND - selling over 6 million copies.
''The movie Forrest Gump is about time. A simple man's journey through complicated times. The coming-of-age of a generation and a country. And at the heart of the story is the music. Music that lives with us, always there to remind us of the people, the places, and the events of our time.'' - Robert Zemeckis & Eric RothLP1

Rainy Day Music
180 Gram Remastered Vinyl With Bonus Tracks
Rainy Day Music begins the next chapter in the storied career of The Jayhawks - a band readily cited as among the pioneers of the "alt country" sound.
The Jayhawks' seventh album backs away from their super-pop releases like Smile and the underrated Sound of Lies and looks back to their earlier,
rootsier sound. A crisp, gorgeous collection of songs, the back-to basics Rainy Day Music took The Jayhawks a mere six weeks to record and mix from
start to finish. The album channels the ghosts of the Byrds, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Buffalo Springfield, and interpreting their '60s folk jangle and lazy,
sunny harmonies through The Jayhawks' own sweetly awkward formula. The first six tracks are all vintage Louris gems -- trembling and honest, with
warm melodies and hooks for days. Frontman Gary Louris says of the album "It has a rainy day, English countryside kind of feel to it. I think we have been
described as a very American band with a very British songwriting style. Maybe that has something to do with it." This remastered edition includes bonus

1968 was an interesting year for The Monkees. Aside from releasing more hit singles & another smash Lp with The Birds The Bees & The Monkees, future superstar and upcoming filmmaker Jack Nicholson, Bob Rafelson & The Monkees were developing the concept for a psychedelic film about this successful rock band who were trying to escape from their manufactured image. Albeit an underlying glimpse of reality, the movie wound up being a swan song for the original line-up of the band until 1996's Justus. As the Head movie was underrated at the time, it has since gone on to become ranked as one of the finest films in the rock genre.
The original soundtrack of Head by The Monkees has a history itself as being one of their strongest albums with stellar material ranging from The Monkees' Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork, plus more great tracks from Harry Nilsson and Carole King with musical help from friends like Carole King, Stephen Stills and Dewey Martin from Buffalo Springfield.
A hit single emerged with Porpoise Song featuring the powerful lead vocal of Micky Dolenz, as the rest of the album is interwoven with keen Monkees dialog and skits that were in the original film, plus the stellar score by Ken Thorne.
In honor of The Monkees, Friday Music is once again pleased to continue the celebration of the Monkees Golden Anniversary with The Monkees Head Alternate. This first-time vinyl album features first-time vinyl versions of Porpoise Song, rarities like Can You Dig It with Peter Tork's vocal, Daddy's Song remixed with the long sought after Davy Jones' slow verse, and the rare stereo mix of Circle Sky.
Produced by The Monkees in 1968, this stunning new version is now impeccably mastered by Monkees fan and friend Joe Reagoso and pressed on 180 Gram Audiophile Translucent Gold Vinyl.
For the very limited Golden Anniversary edition, the LP cover will be manufactured with a stunning gold foil front and back, featuring a rare alternate color photo of the band on the back cover.

Child Is The Father To The ManRanked 264/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Although they would go on to become one of the most commercially successful acts of the 1970s, most observers agree that Blood, Sweat & Tears 1968 debut effort Child Is Father to the Man remains the ambitious ensembles finest and most enduring musical statement. The bands only album under the leadership of legendary singer / keyboardist Al Kooper, Child Is Father to the Man stands with such late-60s art-pop landmarks as the Zombies Odessey and Oracle and Loves Forever Changes in capturing the periods seemingly limitless creative possibilities.
Child Is Father to the Man is a brilliant reflection of the desire of Koopera former member of the seminal Blues Project and a key collaborator in Bob Dylans early electric workto use an expanded instrumental lineup to explore a broader range of sounds, styles and compositional approaches. Towards that end, he launched Blood, Sweat & Tears, recruiting a stellar assortment of players from the worlds of rock and jazz, including ex-Blues Project guitarist Steve Katz, former Buffalo Springfield/Mothers of Invention bassist Jim Fielder, jazz drummer Bobby Colomby and noted jazz horn players Randy Brecker, Dick Halligan, Fred Lipsius and Jerry Weiss.
The resulting album (produced by fabled studio genius John Simon) was a seamlessly eclectic psychedelic-rock-jazz-classical fusion, with such diverse tracks as Koopers gritty compositions I Cant Quit Her and I Love You More Than Youll Ever Know, as well as his playfully arty House in the Country and The Modern Adventures of Plato, Diogenes and Freud, along with stirring readings of Tim Buckleys Morning Glory, Harry Nilssons Without Her and Randy Newmans Just One Smile.
Koopers expansive musical vision may have been a bit too far ahead of its time. Although it was a favorite of early FM album-rock DJs, Child Is Father to the Man barely scraped the Billboard Top 50 and failed to produce a hit single. However, in the years since, the album has been widely recognized for its expressiveness and originality, and embraced by successive generations of listeners. For instance, it received a prominent placement in Rolling Stones 2003 ranking of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
Now, Child Is Father to the Man is back in its original vinyl format with Sundazeds definitive new LP edition. With meticulously reproduced original cover art, this vintage musical landmark has been remastered from the original analog master tapes and is pressed on high-quality, high-definition vinyl.1. You're A Very Lovely WomanAmong folk-rock devotees and power-pop cultists, Emitt Rhodes is a legendary figure with a powerful mystique. The prodigiously talented singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist first came to prominence as the teenaged leader of The Merry-Go-Round, a unique L.A. baroque folk-rock quartet whose lone 1967 album is now regarded as being in the same class as the debut discs of such 60s contemporaries as the Byrds, Love, the Left Banke and the Buffalo Springfield.
The Merry-Go-Roundwhich also included guitarist Gary Kato, ex-Leaves bassist Bill Rinehart and former Grass Roots drummer Joel Larsonscored an early hit with the infectiously jangly Live. The song (which would be covered in the 80s by the Bangles) became a major regional hit in the Los Angeles area. Lives equally distinctive B-side, Time Will Show the Wiser, was covered the following year by Fairport Convention. The bands second single, the bittersweet, orchestrated Youre a Very Lovely Woman, was an equally impressive achievement.
Those three songs are all featured on Youre a Very Lovely Woman, which offers a consistently intoxicating mix of Beatlesque vocal harmonies, ringing folk-rock guitars, sparkling songcraft and playful baroque and psychedelic touches.
Although The Merry-Go-Round would disband two years after releasing their only LP, the album has gained steadily in notoriety and prestige over the years. Original copies of the album have become rare collectors items, regularly changing hands for exorbitant prices among fans.
Now, Youre a Very Lovely Woman is once again available on vinyl to thrill longtime admirers and new fans alike. Mastered from the original analog tapes and pressed on high-quality high-definition vinyl, the album includes complete, meticulously reproduced original cover art.1. Live

Live At The Cellar Door
Mastered By Chris Bellman At Bernie Grundman Mastering And Pressed At Pallas In Germany
Neil Young will release Live At The Cellar Door, the latest in his Archives Performance Series, on Reprise Records. The album collects recordings made during Young's intimate six-show solo stand at The Cellar Door in Washington D.C. between November 30th and December 2nd, 1970, a few months after Reprise released his classic third solo album After The Gold Rush in August.
The album, which features Young performing on acoustic guitar and piano, includes tracks that are interesting for several reasons, such as stunning live versions of songs that appeared on After The Gold Rush (Tell Me Why, Only Love Can Break Your Heart, Birds, Don't Let It Bring You Down and the title track) and solo performances of the Buffalo Springfield songs Expecting To Fly (from their 1967 second album Buffalo Springfield Again), I Am A Child (from their third and final album Last Time Around and Young's 1977 Decade compilation), and Flying On The Ground Is Wrong, from their 1966 self-titled debut.
In addition, Live At The Cellar Door features early, raw performances of songs that wouldn't appear until subsequent Young albums, including the rarity Bad Fog Of Loneliness (which appears on Live At Massey Hall '71 - released in 2007-but was previously unreleased until the studio band version was included on Archives Vol. 1 1963-1972), Old Man (released two years later on 1972's Harvest album), a rare solo performance of Cinnamon Girl on piano (the full band version appears on Young's 1969 second solo album Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere), and Down By The River, also from Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere.

Feedback200 Gram Vinyl LP
As they celebrate a thirty-year career of filling arenas, selling tens of millions of albums and playing songs with which a generation of rock fans came of age, visionary rock legends Rush decided to have a little fun with the music they grew up with. Feedback features covers of songs by The Who, The Yardbirds, Love, Cream, Buffalo Springfield and more, the trio's new LP is a rocking good time for anyone who loves Rush or just classic rock & roll.
Drummer Neil Peart, in the album's liner notes, explains, It was April of 2004, but Geddy, Alex, and I were channeling back to 1966 and 1967, when we were thirteen- and fourteen-year-old beginners. We thought it would be a fitting symbol to commemorate our thirty years together if we returned to our roots and paid tribute to those we had learned from and were inspired by. We thought we might record some of the songs we used to listen to, the ones we painstakingly learned the chords, notes, and drum parts for, and even played in our earliest bands. The tracks on this collection are songs we liked from the era that we thought we could 'cover' effectively (meaning not too many backing vocals), and have some fun with. The music celebrates a good time in our lives, and we had a good time celebrating it.1. Summertime Blues

Storytone (Deluxe)Neil Young's significantly higher fidelity follow-up to A Letter Home is called Storytone, and is released via Reprise.
Really, it's two albums: There's a solo version and a standard version, which was recorded with a 92-piece orchestra and choir. The vinyl contains both solo and standard versions, pressed at QRP.
The album was produced by Young and Niko Bolas under their Volume Dealers moniker. The orchestra was arranged and conducted by Michael Bearden and Chris Walden.
He was also one of the original founders of Farm Aid in 1985, and continues to be an active member on the organization's board of directors.LP 1 (Original Album With Orchestra)

Mockingbird TimeDuring their heyday in the first half of the 1990's, The Jayhawks perfected a captivating sound that seamlessly blended the elegant folk-rock of The Byrds, the adventurousness of Buffalo Springfield, the hippiebilly soulfulness of The Flying Burrito Brothers, and the soaring harmonies of The Beach Boys. So it's richly ironic that their reappearance coincides with a dramatic resurgence of the musical approach they played such a central role in perpetuating. But this time around, The Jayhawks themselves are revered as icons by the young bands carrying on those same traditions, and it's their own legacy that they're advancing.
On Mockingbird Time, their eighth album, and the first with the original lineup since 1995's Tomorrow The Green Grass, they're once again pushing the envelope on songs and performances of rarefied dynamism and grace. The album's shapes and textures range from the string-laden grandeur of Hide Your Colors and the widescreen vistas of Tiny Arrows to the streamlined 12-string jangle of She Walks in So Many Ways and the amphetamine frenzy of High Water Blues.1. Canyon SongsFirst time available on vinyl and celebrating the 10-year anniversary of what many fans and critics concede could be the crown jewel of Lucca's catalog, the emotive Canyon Songs, a touching 10-track tip of the cap to the legendary Laurel Canyon sound immortalized by master musicians including Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Joni Mitchell and Jackson Browne.
Lucca says. "Instead of diving back into the next album cycle, I've decided to reflect for a minute and promote the larger body of work, to shine more light on Tony Lucca, the songwriter." For Lucca, who was raised in a very large musical family in Detroit, a short stint doing the Hollywood shuffle/auditioning actor thing led him to recognize his true passion: music. A number of albums and EPs followed.
Lucca has made myriad television appearances on popular shows such as Parenthood, The Tonight Show, Last Call with Carson Daly, The All New Mickey Mouse Club, the Aaron Spelling-produced Malibu Shores, as well as small roles in some independent features. He was also the source oftabloid fodder during his years dating actress Keri Russell, as well as when he was a third place finisher on Season 2 of The Voice (which served as a springboard for a series of additional key career milestones, including the signing of a recording contract with Adam Levine's 222 Records, as well as high profile stints on tour with the likes of Maroon 5, Kelly Clarkson and Sara Bareilles, among countless others).

Born With StripesSan Diegos The Donkeys strike a balance of smiling, surfer mysticism and winking, slacker mystique. They reanimate the charming hallmarks of sunshine-rock past without being sepia-toned retro or bubblegum-cloying. There is an innate playfulness and honesty to the music they make. Its a dynamic that has made public champions of keen-eared musicians like John Darnielle (Mountain Goats) and Craig Finn (The Hold Steady). It was Darnielle who claimed The Donkeys were benevolent keepers of what he called The Antidote to an unnamed sickness plaguing indie rock.
Born With Stripes is an altogether less twangy affair than the bands 2008 Dead Oceans debut, Living On The Other Side. The nods to Grateful Dead and Buffalo Springfield are better balanced with echoes of other Cali arists, notably Pavement and Beck. The country-rock flairs are often overtaken by powerpop hooks. What some might call a lazy melody is really just a melody on its own clock. Nice and relaxed.
Ceiling Tan, feels like a lost weekend in Tijuana with Mutations and Crooked Rain, and may well be the bands mission statement. I Like The Way You Walk also cops a 90s alt-rock lick, but ditches any esoterica for earnest yearnings and sweet nothings.
What makes the Donkeys so potent is not their ability to rehash the past, its that their records embody a pureness, an authenticity that is unmatched in contemporary music. We were not the only ones to feel this undeniable connection. The Donkeys had a brush with Hollywood when Lost producer Eddy Kitsis heard the band, and cast them as Geronimo Jackson, a band he had written into the Lost story as an obscure San Francisco band from the 70s, who were peers of the Grateful Dead. Kitsis heard the Donkeys and felt they so embodied this fictitious band, that he actually had the band re-record their song Excelsior Lady as Dharma Lady and weaved it into the TV show.
The album was mixed by Pernice Brothers Thom Monahan, whose involvement not only gives us the crispest, warmest Donkeys recordings to date, it also serves to remind us of the bands loose connections to an array of psych-dappled kindred spirits: Vetiver, Papercuts, BrightblackMorning Light, Devendra Banhart. Monahan was not the only outsider the band collaborated with on Born With Stripes. The playful album artwork was created by California illustrator and cartoonist Tony Millionaire, best known for his comics Maakies and Sock Monkey, and as the creator of the Adult Swim show Drinky Crow.1. BirdsSeth Glier's new album Birds is steeped in conflict and contradictions. There's grief and loss, but also strength and resilience; doubt and dismay, but also a sense of optimism as Glier confronts heavy topics and wrestles them into the daylight.
Glier (pronounced Gleer) recorded Birds in an airy loft in western Massachusetts outfitted with a grand piano and floor-to-ceiling windows. Birds roost just outside those windows, on the roof of the converted mill building where he lives, and they became his sympathetic audience while Glier made the album. I felt a tremendous amount of comfort talking to the Birds, he says I'd check in with them regularly to see how they thought things were going so far.
Birds is Glier's fifth album, and the latest entry in a burgeoning career that has included a Grammy nomination and a pair of Independent Music Awards while touring with artists including Ani DiFranco and Ryan Adams.
The songs on Birds range from personal to political, and are bound together by the awareness that our world is a fragile place that is all the more magical for it. Glier makes that point on a large scale with Water on Fire, a terse, grinding tune that opens with a cynical reworking of a Ray Charles lyric as Glier uses fracking to dig into the false equivalence between freedom and capitalism. Hasn't Hit Me Yet has a more visceral, intimate approach: the soulful slow jam, full of warm guitars and multi-tracked vocals, is about the death of Glier's autistic brother.
Together, those songs represent the opposite poles of Birds. I was really trying to explore connections on this record, Glier says. Among those connections is the one between race and the criminal justice system on Justice for All, a raw chain-gang stomp that sounds almost like an old field recording. Like I Do takes a more oblique tack, drawing out feelings of anger through the use of noisy synthesizers and fuzzed-out bass pads.
The songs on Birds reflect a scope of sound and style: the title track is lush and & orchestral, for example, while Too Much Water pairs Glier's voice and piano with subtle accompaniment from horns, for a classic, elegant feel that calls to mind Harry Nilsson in the early '70s. People Like Us is jaunty and up-tempo, while the trebly guitar arpeggios and moaning saxophone on Just Because I Can sound like a sock-hop slow dance, until you zero in on lyrics delivered by a narrator who dynamites his domestic bliss simply for the power trip. Conflict. Contradiction.
Even the cover tune, a reimagined version of Buffalo Springfield's For What It's Worth, evokes urgency. Although it was written 50 years ago, it's still about what's happening right now, Glier says.
Birds began taking shape after Glier lost his brother, Jamie, who died in October 2015, and inspired a TED Talk performance that Glier gave in 2016. My brother passing away was a huge component of where I was and what I was looking for, Glier says. In particular, I was looking for meanings, wanting his life to mean more than just being over.
For a long time afterward, Glier passed the time by writing songs and inspecting each melody with the feathered fellows by his windowsill. Instead of recording the album in a Los Angeles studio, as he did on his 2015 album If I Could Change One Thing, he decided to make Birds at home.
I thought that I should just stay close to the windows here, Glier says. I think this sort of happened by accident, but by the time I started recording the record, it was fall in New England, which is a profoundly beautiful death. The air is full of honesty, the sky is full of geese, and there is bright gorgeousness woven into the dying of things. It all seeped into the textures of this record.1. Sunshine

Sugar Mountain: Live At Canterbury House (Out Of Stock)Pressed at Pallas in Germany.
A more intimate live portrayal of solo Neil Young doesn't exist. Recorded on a TEAC 2-track tape recorder at Canterbury House on November 9-10, 1968, Sugar Mountain: Live At Canterbury House 1968 is, for all intents and purposes, the start of the iconic singer-songwriter's solo career. It's a unique document not in just Young's catalog, but in all of music.
Armed with just an acoustic guitar and his voice, Young charms an intimate crowd on his own terms with renditions of many now-classic songs that hadn't yet even been released. Fortunately, for everyone, the performances are captured in you-are-there sound. Experienced on this exquisite analog pressing, sonics don't get any more realistic. Acoustic properties and liveliness abound. The wood-bodied tones of the guitar, inflections of Young's speech, and warble of his timbre come to life as if you have been transported back to those two cool, fall November days in Michigan.
In addition to songs such as Birds, Winterlong, and The Last Trip to Tulsa, an extremely rare portrait of Young emerges. Evidently nervous about the gigs (he just broke apart from Buffalo Springfield), the 22-year-old Canadian is actually talkative and giddy, two characteristics that soon left his onstage repertoire. We hear stories of his job in a bookstore to his thoughts on songwriting amidst an unvarnished, up-close presentation that, by some fortunate stroke of karma, was documented for everyone to hear.
Trust us: Young's records are long-time favorites among audiophiles for their music and sound qualities. Sugar Mountain: Live At Canterbury House 1968 rivals the very best of the legend's performances and will make you and your stereo glow with happiness.

Just Roll Tape: April 26, 1968 (Out Of Stock)Remastered from the Original Analog Tapes by Kevin Grey at Acoustech and Pressed on 180g RTI Vinyl! True Audiophile-Quality!
A moment in rock & roll history, unearthed! In April of 1968, after leaving Buffalo Springfield, but before joining CSN, Stephen Stills found himself in a New York recording session with then girlfriend Judy Collins. Stills wandered down the hall with an engineer and an acoustic guitar, and laying down a couple hundred-dollar bills, told the engineer Just roll tape. What he recorded in the ensuing hours was the first ever versions of what would become classics for Stephen Stills, CSN, CSNY and Manassas. Almost 40 years later the tapes, rescued decades ago from a garbage bin, are finally remastered and being released to the public. Includes the first recordings of the future CSN hits Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, Helplessly Hoping and Wooden Ships, as well as demos of Stills' solo classics Change Partners, Black Queen, and Know You Got To Run, and Manassas So Begins The Task.1.
