    Independent Worm Saloon

First Time Ever Domestic Vinyl Release

"Independent Worm Saloon" is the major label debut by the Butthole Surfers originally released by Capitol Records in 1993. Riding the wave of the early 90s alternative explosion the band used some of that major label money and hired former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones as producer and the result is a tight in your face album that didn't tone down the band at all. Gibby Haynes is in fine form with his often hilarious and bizarre vocals and lyrics working their way into your brain on all out rockers like "Who Was In My Room Last Night?" and "Goofy's Concern" and on the more mellow numbers such as "The Ballad Of Naked Man" and "You Don't Know Me".

Brown Reason To Live (Out Of Stock)

    Colored Vinyl

This is where it all began for these acid casualty reality trippers. Brown Reason To Live is their very first release; it came out in 1983. Here it is on vintage thick wax. 12 vinyl, 7-song ep- their first classic slab o' wax, and still as crazed and lysergic as ever! P.S.- And the answer to the timeless question, what speed is this meant to be played on? It's meant to be played at 69 rpm, of course! (But if your turntable doesn't have a 69 setting, try it on 45 instead.) 'I am the ultimate god!' followed by the sounds of a man nearly breaking down in tears- it's one of the most emotional and honest moments in rock history. Oddly enough it's at the end of a song called 'The Shah Sleeps in Lee Harvey's Grave' off of the superb Butthole Surfers debut EP 'Brown Reason To Live.' It's that accidental shift from extreme bravado to mournful regret that most bands only dream of pulling off, and it's all courtesy of some of America's most drug-addled pranksters. The following 6 tracks put experimental punk on the map. No one was quite sure what to make of it. Was it psychedelia, was it punk rock, or was it just crap? But everyone was certain that it was nothing like anything else. Insane, but not cheesy, lyrics that sounded passionate while the music sometimes grooved, rocked, irritated, or just became noise... this sounds brilliant. Drums that pound and words have the clarity required to catch such oddball lines as 'I got a stiff upper lip because I'm half dead' and 'they shot the pope's ass... and I feel good! Kids, everyone, this is required listening. This is their peak... - Punk Planet Gibby Haines' [sic] insane crew started life on AT with this appropriately scatologically-themed mini-album [Brown Reason To Live]. Song titles include The Revenge of Anus Presley- enough said.

    Etched D-Side

Originally released in 1996, "Electriclarryland" features the Surfers only top 40 hit with the song "Pepper". Although the sound on this album continues the more streamlined approach they started with "Independent Worm Saloon", this record is by no means mainstream, even with the hit. With pile driving rockers, pop-punk raves, acid freakouts and their demented sense of humor and bizzare perspective intact - the Surfers take no prisoners! 3 sides of music with the 4th side featuring etchings by Gibby Haynes.

    Basses Loaded

It's 2016 and the Melvins have an album called Basses Loaded coming out that features six different bass players. That's right SIX different bass players. NEW Melvins bass players for this go around are Steve McDonald from the legendary Los Angeles glam punk band Redd Kross and their old friend Krist Novoselic from Nirvana! Making return appearances are former and probably future bass players Jeff Pinkus (Butthole Surfers), Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle/Fantomas), Jared Warren (Big Business) and Dale Crover.

Six bass players? Is this a joke? What IS the deal with these ceaseless idiots? Can't they just settle in and be happy with ONE line up?

    Apparently not.

I suppose it figures considering how many goddam bass players they've had up until this point.

    Nonetheless Basses Loaded actually works!

According to King Buzzo, "More is more! As hard as it might be to believe, all of these bass players contribute something of their own to Basses Loaded which gives the whole album a good kick right in it's big fat ass."

Recording with Krist Novoselic is something that should have happened a long time ago but rumor has it that he's been busy doing things like playing bass with Paul McCartney and getting his ass inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's hard to believe he even bothered with this! Ha!

Butthole Surfer and Honky member Jeff Pinkus played on the Melvins' album Hold it In and has done shit load of touring with the boys in the last few years.

Trevor Dunn recorded the Freak Puke album with these guys as well as played bass on the Melvins' record setting US tour where they played all 50 states plus DC in 51 days. This was also released as a tour DVD last year entitled Across the USA in 51 Days, the Movie!

Jared Warren is a Melvins' veteran having recorded the Senile Animal, Nude with Boots and The Bride Screamed Murder albums as well as the Bulls and the Bees EP. Dale Crover is usually the Melvins drummer but slid over to bass when they brought back original drummer Mike Dillard for the Tres Cabrones album (this line-up was called Melvins 1983).

Steve McDonald has been in Redd Kross since he was 11 and he's a founding member of Los Angeles hardcore band OFF! plus he's got REALLY good stories about the "rock scene" in Los Angeles! The Melvins have a shit load of touring planned with Steven this year so this whole thing is a really big deal.

    1. The Decay of Lying (Steve McDonald)
    2. Choco Plumbing (Jared Warren)
    3. Beer Hippie (Dale Crover)

    Hold It In

The Melvins return with Hold It In, their first studio album as a quartet since 2010's The Bride Screams Murder. Joining Buzz Osborne and
Dale Crover for the 12-song outing are Butthole Surfers' guitar player Paul Leary and bass player JD Pinkus. Hold It In was recorded in both Los Angeles
    and Austin earlier this year.

Hold It In is a refreshing piece of fiction in a boring world of fact and bullshit, said Osborne. Paul is one of the best guitar players I have ever heard and
Pinkus has an outside the box type of approach to both guitar and bass that you just have to let it ride. I can't believe this actually happened. I'm thrilled.
It's very rare you get a chance to work with three folks from the 'Break A Wish' foundation, all at the same time, said Pinkus. I believe they'll remember
their experience with me forever (or until they finally all lose their fight with S.I.D.S).

Remastered For The First Time Since The
    Album's 1994 Release

Daniel Johnston's Fun was originally released in 1994 on
Atlantic Records, while the singer/songwriter was housed
    in a mental institution.

This major-label debut is, arguably, his finest moment.
With considerable help from Butthole Surfer Paul Leary,
Johnston has never sounded so self-assured or confident
before. Exhibiting some of his strongest songwriting to
date, Fun is a rewarding record that never loses its initial,
    visceral appeal.

    There Is No Enemy

When making the new Built To Spill album There Is No Enemy, Doug Martsch literally lived in the studio working all day and night. He spent hours and hours laying down guitar tracks he realized he couldn't use since the first live takes had the best tone and feel. He had to undigitally remix the record. There Is No Enemy has the sound and feel of the album that every Built To Spill fan has been anxiously awaiting.

In addition to Martsch and his usual support, There Is No Enemy includes guest spots from Sam Coomes, ex-Treepeople co-guitarist/vocalist Scott Schmaljohn, Butthole Surfer Paul Leary, Roger Manning, etc.

    Helpers On The Other Side

Adding flourishes to the formula established on their debut Out of Africa, Alternative Tentacles' flagship band Triclops! continues its assault on all pretenders to the punk / psych / prog throne.

The sound on this album is varied, but one might say it's akin to fIREHOSE crossing streams with Goblin in an acid vat. There's even an acoustic bridge in With SARS, I'll Ride the Wind that sounds like a fever-warbled classic rock jammer.

Triclops! is an acid-punk version of avant-garde classical composition with cinematic textures--an absurdist soundscape replete with comedic relief that acknowledges its own pure ridiculousness. This career suicide / cult-accepted approach to exhibitionism finds kindred spirits in envelope-pushing, progress-obsessed minds like Butthole Surfers, Slayer, David Lynch, Zappa, Heinlein, Timothy Leary, Melvins / Big Business, B. Traven, Deerhoof, Bill Hicks, Sun Ra, Fellini, Sonic Youth, and Scratch Acid.

Having toured Europe and shared bills with Melt Banana, NoMeansNo, Big Business, and Jesus Lizard, these post-punk veterans' distinct sound is unmistakably Triclops!

    Scrape The Walls

After three long years, here's the latest record from Oakland punk-fuzz-rock-?!? faves The Fleshies!
After releasing The Sicilian and years of their mind-warping worldwide tour marathon, the band withdrew into drummer Brian Hamiltron's Sugar Mountain Studios to work on a new opus. Breaking away from the punk rock tradition of banging out a record in a few days, they took their damned sweet time making the most ridiculous album possible.

Scrape The Walls is a spirited 17-song record that successfully molests punk rock in a similar manner to how Sparks unwholesomely molested glitter rock, the Melvins mauled rock, or the Butthole Surfers maimed music in general. (Speaking of Sparks, this album includes a delightful cover of Happy Hunting Ground with Jello Biafra on guest vocals!)

Scrape the Walls bounces everywhere from somewhat sunny-dispositioned pseudo anthems to sludgy, stoner rock-esque castings, all glazed with Fleshies' inimitable sense of fuck-you humor. But honestly, no 200-word summary can neatly tie up the disorderly strands of ideas and musical chaos that is Fleshies and we wouldn't want to do them such disservice so we will just say Scrape the Walls is exactly the kind of record AT should be releasing and leave it at that!

Ministry is the legendary industrial metal band founded in 1981 by Al Jourgensen in Chicago. In its earliest days, the band began as a new wave synth pop group but in the mid-1980s ended up changing styles, signing to Sire Records and becoming one of the pioneers of industrial metal. In 1988, the band recorded their second album for Sire, The Land of Rape and Honey, which used synth, tape loops, drum machines, heavily distorted guitar and bass, and movie dialogue to great effect-furthering their success in the underground music scene. The album was certified Gold by the RIAA in 1996. Bands such as Fear Factory, Linkin Park, Slipknot and Nine Inch Nails cite The Land of Rape and Honey as a major influence. Their follow up, The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste, took a more hardcore guitar-driven direction and was supported by a tour from 1989-90 which was documented on the album In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up. The album peaked at #163 in the US and was certified Gold by the RIAA for sales in excess of 500k in 1995. Music critic Tom Moon included the album in his book, 1000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die, saying it "is one of the great works of industrial music" and is an influential album, "way ahead of its time."

Ministry broke into the mainstream in 1991 with the hit "Jesus Built My Hotrod," which was co-authored by Gibby Haynes of the Butthole Surfers (who also is featured doing guest vocals) and Michael Balch of Front Line Assembly. It was the key track off their fifth studio album released on Sire in 1992, commonly referred to as Psalm 69. The song "N.W.O." was nominated for the Grammy® Award for Best Metal Performance in 1993, but lost to Nine Inch Nails' "Wish." Psalm 69 is ranked #80 on Rolling Stone magazine's Top 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time list. It went platinum and peaked at #27 on the Billboard 200, paving the way for other industrial acts including Marilyn Manson and Orgy into the Billboard charts.

Ministry has gone on to record up until their break up in 2008, although they announced a reunion in 2011 , released two more studio albums and are working on their fourteenth studio album set to release in 2018. They have been nominated for 6 Grammy® Awards. This will be the first time that their Greatest Fits album covering key tracks from the WB/Sire label years will be available on vinyl. No other Ministry greatest hits collection exists on vinyl in the market and this one would receive the typical high quality Run Out Groove treatment.
