The Byrds' Greatest Hits is the first greatest hits album by American rock band The Byrds and was released in August 1967. The Notorious Byrd Brothers (MONO)

Ranked 171/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The Byrds pull no punches kicking off their fifth album, 1968's The Notorious Byrd Brothers, with Artificial Energy, a devastating haymaker aimed at the go-fast generation. In the blink of an eye, they're into the most beautiful baroque folk-rock ever created, the Carole King/Gerry Goffin-penned Goin' Back. It was the song that caused David Crosby to leave the band (witness the empty horse stall on the cover photo) an odd reaction, considering most of Notorious was layered with a phased and eerie deep-space vibe that seemed to come from another galaxy. Space Odyssey is the perfect post-film mint for Stanley Kubrick's intergalactic thriller 2001: A Space Odyssey. The heartbreak of Draft Morning says plenty about being eligible for conscription during the Vietnam War, while Wasn't Born To Follow was a perfect fit for silver screen epic Easy Rider, whose main characters were based directly on McGuinn and Crosby.

Insanely rare and unavailable for over 40 years, we're proud to present the first ever reissue of this monumental recording in its original, highly-sought-after mono incarnation, cut directly from the original Columbia Recordings analog mono masters, with perfect artwork restoration and meticulously faithful mastering.

Ranked 232/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The Byrds burst upon an already fertile pop/rock music scene in the spring of 1965 with a stunning retooling of Bob Dylan's Mr. Tambourine Man that changed everything. The debut album of the same name that followed, featuring mindblowing folk-rock gems like The Bells Of Rhymney, I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better and Chimes Of Freedom, was so aromatically intoxicating it even lit a fire under the Beatles across the Atlantic, beavering away on Rubber Soul. The Mr. Tambourine Man longplayer is so bountiful it almost doubles as a Byrds greatest hits, volume one. Here Without You and I Knew Id Want You weave a sense of mystery into the Byrds' eerie harmonic tapestry. And All I Want To Do, along with Spanish Harlem Incident, once again, connect Dylan's magic to the pop charts in a way only McGuinn, Crosby, Clark, Hillman and Clarke could pull off.

Younger Than Yesterday, the Byrds' fourth albumand in some people's eyes, the pinnacle of their artwastes no time, bursting out of the gates with still another national smash, So You Want To Be A Rock 'N' Roll Star. Spotlighting the jazzy trumpet of Hugh Masekela, this paean to outrageous rock stardom was a highlight of the Byrds' appearance at the Monterey Pop Festival, possibly the most thrilling gathering of the musical tribes, ever. Every bit as exciting was Have You Seen Her Face, the album's second radio hit. A return to space-rock, C.T.A.-102, should have been nominated for a Hugo, the annual prize for the best work in science fiction. The standout track ofYesterday, nevertheless, is My Back Pages, a good bet as the best-ever blend of lush Byrds harmonies and jangling guitar with Bob Dylan at his Finnegan's Wake lyrical best.

Ranked 124/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

'Younger Than Yesterday' is The Byrds' fourth album and was originally released in 1967.

As on its predecessor, the album features elements of psychedelic rock like experimenting with new musical textures, including brass instruments and reverse tape effects.

On the other hand the first country and western influences can be found on the album, being early indicators of the country rock direction the band would pursue on their later albums.
Nowadays 'Younger Than Yesterday' is considered one of The Byrds' finest albums.

    Sweetheart Of The Rodeo

Ranked 117/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

With one mighty swing of the axe, the Byrds changed not only the face of rock 'n' roll but country music, as well, with their sixth album, 1968's Sweetheart Of The Rodeo. Tired of dipping a toe into the genre, Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman added singer Gram Parsons and drummer Kevin Kelley and went for total immersion. The baptism of country-rock was a natural with Parsons, former International Submarine Band frontman, now on board. And the repertoire was wide open for country classics by the Louvin Brothers (The Christian Life) and Merle Haggard (Life In Prison), as well as Depression-era ballads (Woody Guthrie's Pretty Boy Floyd) and honky tonk weepers cut by George Jones (You're Still On My Mind). The town wasn't big enough for both of them, of course, and Parsons soon split to form the Flying Burrito Brothers, but it sure was nice while it lasted!

    Ballad Of Easy Rider

Mastered by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music Studios with Kevin Gray & Pressed at RTI!

After a huge number of hit singles, top charting albums, concert tours and international television appearances, The Byrds developed into a very influential band along the lines of The Beatles, The Beach Boys and The Rolling Stones. Spearheaded by their founder Roger McGuinn, The Byrds continued to be a major recording entity and delivered over a dozen of the finest classic rock albums in their decade together of making legendary music.

With the close of the turbulent '60s dawning, The Byrds reunited once again with their original producer Terry Melcher (Mr. Tambourine Man/Turn, Turn, Turn) and delivered the classic Ballad Of Easy Rider. With a whole new audience developing from their college concert tours and the beginning of the powerful FM radio coverage, this masterwork hit the top thirty album charts and brought the band continued acclaim.

The LP consisted of some of their most memorable songs like the aforementioned hippie anthem Ballad of Easy Rider, which also received tons of exposure thanks to being featured as the title song to the Jack Nicholson/Peter Fonda motion picture Easy Rider. The album also treated the listener to some Byrds favorites like Jesus Is Just Alright, Oil In My Lamp, Fido and a revisit to the Bob Dylan catalog with their hit interpretation of It's All Over Now, Baby Blue.

Featuring the legendary twelve string guitar and lead vocals of Roger McGuinn, the sorely missed lead guitar and vocals of the late great Clarence White, the powerful drum and vocals of Gene Parsons, and the solid bass and vocals of John York, The Byrds' Ballad Of Easy Rider was an all around hit with underground radio, college campuses and traditional radio and retail audiences. This album is consistently recognized as one of the finest efforts in their deep catalog of hit recordings.

In an effort to continually offer consummate music lovers with the greatest rock recordings of all time, Friday Music proudly presents for the first time ever on 180g audiophile vinyl, the anniversary edition of The Byrds classic Ballad Of Easy Rider. Impeccably mastered from the original Columbia Records tapes by Joe Reagoso (The Byrds, Elvis Presley, Deep Purple) at Friday Music Studios with Kevin Gray, Ballad Of Easy Rider also continues the second release in the extensive The Byrds/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series.

    Guitar Freakout

The late L.A. session guitar genius Jerry Cole has long been worshipped for his work with everyone from the Beach Boys and the Byrds to Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley and by surf fans as the leader of the Spacemen. But unbeknownst to many, Cole was also the driving force behind the Animated Egg, a fictitious band whose lone, self-titled 1967 LP is one of the greatest psychedelic exploitation records ever to hit the budget bins of U.S. chain storesand eventually the want lists of big-spending DJs and collectors.

Comprised of splashy, fuzz-drenched Now Sound instrumental groovers, The Animated Egg easily lives up to both the eBay hype and the promise of its evocative track titles: Sure Listic, Sock It My Way, Sippin and Trippin, andyes indeedI Said, She Said, Ah Cid. In addition to the rare self-titled LP by the Animated Egg, this collection also includes cuts by other related Cole projects: the Projection Company, the Generation Gap, T. Swift & the Electric Bag, and the Stone Canyon Rock Group. Sourced from the original analog masters, Sundazeds glorious CD and high-definition double-LP vinyl editions of this hallowed prize are a must for turntablists and brain-trippers alike.

    Forever Changes

Ranked 40/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The third and final album by the original Love lineup, Forever Changes has consistently drawn epic praise both upon its 1968 release on Elektra Records and to this very day. Rolling Stone described Forever Changes as "elegant armageddon" when listing it as #40 in the 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time while another rave review considered it, "one of the most distinctive masterpieces in that era of masterpieces." A landmark work that is without question the L.A.-based psychedelic folk-rock pioneers' most fully realized studio effort, Forever Changes was produced by band co-founder/frontman Arthur Lee and The Doors' engineer/producer Bruce Botnick.

Lee's metaphysically super-logical lyrics, warbled sweetly over the band's full-bloom psychedelia, a swirling current of guitars, strings, and horns layered into a mind-expanding wall of beauty. The album's song titles read like signs along the long and winding road to Nirvana: "Andmoreagain," "Maybe The People Would Be The Times Or Between Clark And Hilldale," "The Good Humor Man He Sees Everything Like This," "You Set The Scene." Forever Changes exploded the personal into the universal and uncovered the eternal tucked away inside the familiar.

"In the summer of 1967 a billboard appeared on Los Angeles' legendary Sunset Strip telling all who looked skyward to 'watch for the third coming of LOVE.' Emblazoned with an image of the group painted in oozing pink, purple, blue, and green meant to resemble an organic heart, Love were barely recognizable in their collective obscurity. Though they had followed hot on the heels of The Byrds to rule the L.A. club scene a year earlier, the band (at the time perhaps the most progressive and uncompromising in pop) never made the leap to mainstream acceptance or the Billboard Top 10. Ironically, that same summer their Elektra labelmates and former opening act, The Doors hit #1 with 'Light My Fire.' Meanwhile, the five members of Love (Arthur Lee, Johnny Echols, Bryan MacLean, Ken Forssi, and Michael Stuart) struggled to complete an album that would barely chart on initial release. In most stories Love would be the group that promised more than they delivered. That would be had 'the third coming' not been Forever Changes, a long-player widely rated above any other waxing of that idyllic era." - Andrew Sandoval/liner notes for the 2008 reissue

The Billy Joel/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Continues!

His Very First Album Revisited For The First Time In The Audiophile Domain

First Time 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl & Gatefold Cover Presentation

Mastered By Joe Reagoso At Friday Music And Manufactured At R.T.I.

Billy Joel's debut LP Cold Spring Harbor will always be revered as one of the finest classic early albums from
this superstar singer/songwriter. Released in 1971, Billy had already paid a bunch of dues since the 60's with bands
like The Hassles and Atilla. Already entrenched with a handful of influential radio programmers, Billy Joel took to the
road vigorously to help promote the Cold Spring Harbor album on stations like WNEW in New York and WMMR in Philly,
which eventually helped break Billy to a huge record buying audience. As his nightclub shows became sell outs and
airplay was beginning with his debut LP, Cold Spring Harbor soon became the album which would springboard this
singer/songwriter into an arena artist in a very short time.

Cold Spring Harbor shows this New Yorker's skills in the studio, his stellar vocals, songwriting and amazing
piano artistry. Forty years later these tunes still resonate with his fans as Billy Joel is currently embarking on a very
successful concert tour, and Friday Music is proud to be a part of the celebration with his debut masterwork Cold
    Spring Harbor.

As another installment in our exclusive Billy Joel/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series, this first
time impeccably mastered audiophile LP features some of his greatest songs like the brilliant album opener She's
Got a Way, the Beatle-esqe You Can Make Me Free, the stellar instrumental Nocturne, and his classic debut single
    Everybody Loves You Now.

The masterwork contains even more of his most loved classics like the stunning Falling of the Rain and the
country flavor of Turn Around featuring Sneaky Pete from The Byrds on pedal steel guitar.

For a very limited time, we are also enhancing your listening enjoyment with a first time gatefold cover artwork
presentation, which features the original LP sized cover art not seen in years, as well as lyrics to all of these great Billy
Joel songs, making this a keepsake for years to come.

Impeccably mastered by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music Studios, Billy Joel's Cold Spring Harbor will be one of the
more anticipated classic rock releases in the audiophile vinyl domain this year.

    Grievous Angel

Gram Parsons pioneered the concept of a rock band playing country music, playing in bands such as The Byrds, The International Submarine Band and The Flying Burrito Brothers. His work has influenced both country and rock artists such as The Rolling Stones and Linda Ronstadt by blending the two genres to the point that they became indistinguishable from each other.

Compiled from 1973 studio sessions 'Grievous Angel' was originally released in 1974, four months after the songwriters death. It was the second solo album from Gram Parsons and is viewed as a successful example of the hybrid between country androck and rollParsons called Cosmic American Music. In 2003 it was ranked in Rolling Stone magazine's 500 greatest albums of all time.

Karriem Riggins is best known as a jazz drummer and hip-hop producer for artists like Common, Slum Village, Talib Kweli and The Roots, but he doesn't categorize himself as anything but an artist. He advises younger musicians to do the same.
You don't have to put yourself in a box...there's so many different ways to go, Riggins says. A student of late jazz bassist Ray Brown, he tours with another Brown protÉgÉ, Grammy Award winner Diana Krall. In 2011, he collaborated with former Beatle Paul McCartney in concert and on Kisses on the Bottom, McCartney's first studio release in five years. Names of some of the jazz artists he's backed reads like the genre's hall of fame - Hank Jones, Oscar Peterson, Milt Jackson, Donald Byrd and Ron Carter.

But on his solo debut Alone Together, set for an October 23 release on Stones Throw Records (Vinyl and digital will be released in two-parts over summer and fall 2012), Riggins plants himself firmly as a hip-hop producer with a 34-track instrumental odyssey through nearly every influence on his career thus far. The project was inspired by much of the music he was creating while living in Los Angeles, and also by the love of his son and family.

Now residing in his native Detroit, Riggins is back where it all began. I feel like I can really breath and stay inspired here, and I have room to set up my lab and be creative, he says. This is the rationale behind the title Alone Together, taken from a jazz standard written by Arthur Schwartz and Howard Dietz that begin with the words, Alone together, above the crowd.

Coming back to the machines, I feel like I can really express myself, Riggins says. This is the way that I express my rhythms.

Machines, however, are just one way he expresses his rhythms. Midway through the album, the track Water is interrupted by a vocal snippet where the speaker places Riggins right at the intersection of hip-hop and jazz. Alone Together is that intersection; it's the jazz music he's played professionally since the age of 19, and it's crafting beats like Africa on an MPC5000 while touring throughout Eastern Europe and Russia.

I need the balance, Riggins says, of working with the likes of Krall and McCartney, and also being able to go back to the studio and create hip-hop. Without that, I couldn't be who I am.

Songs on Alone Together range from 14 seconds to a little over three minutes, and are the essence of man vs. machine. When Riggins channels Elvin Jones on the album's climax and tribute to his longtime friend, J Dilla the Greatest, his tools are a Gretsch drum kit, the Fender Rhodes and an MPC3000. As versed as he is in jazz and pop, the machines will always be at the root - until the next thing.

There's always something new to figure out, he says. That's the blessing in it.

    Crosby, Stills and Nash

Ranked 259/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

One of the most enduring musical partnerships of our time, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) are revered for their peerless vocal harmonies, inspired songwriting and musical virtuosity. When the trio first sang together at a friends Laurel Canyon house in 1968, their uncanny harmonic convergence was immediately apparent, and CSN took shape. Each member came to the new venture from other high-profile bands, Crosby from the Byrds, Stills from Buffalo Springfield and Nash from the Hollies, and together they formed that rarest of musical entities, a supergroup that lived up to its billing.

CSNs stunning 1969 self-titled debut album is one of the true masterpieces of the rock n roll canon. The album made it all the way to #6 on the Billboard charts and delivered two Top 40 Pop singles with Marrakesh Express and Suite: Judy Blue Eyes. Also features the CSN classics Guinnevere, Wooden Ships, Helplessly Hoping and Long Time Gone.

Crosby, Stills & Nash are a most important part of the brilliant history at Atlantic Records. The uniqueness of their vocal blend, as well as the uniqueness of each solo voice, made them the top vocal group in the world, and they are still today thrilling millions of fans they have accumulated over the years. The Best Of Wilson Pickett

The great Wilson Pickett will be forever known as one of the original classic soul pioneers who had a knack of mastering funk grooves drenched in soul, rock and pop. He made some of the greatest sides ever for Atlantic, where he spent almost two decades creating some of the grittiest sold music ever waxed.

In 1967, Wilson 'The Wicked' Pickett was honored with his first greatest hits collection by Atlantic Records simply titled The Best Of Wilson Pickett. This stunning array of his hit singles, most of them backed by Booker T. and The M.G.'s, dominated the upper rungs of the soul and pop charts for over a year.

The man was important in bridging all types of rhythm and blues music to a much wider audience, churning out not only soul smashes but pop masterpieces. Most of his biggest hits have been covered by contemporaries like The Rascals, Solomon Burke, Jackie Wilson, The Supremes, B.B. King, Mitch Ryder and Bryan Ferry, just to name a few.

Jam packed with the original recordings of solid senders like his classics In The Midnight Hour, Mustang Sally, Funky Broadway and of course Land Of 1000 Dances, The Best Of Wilson Pickett is virtually an encyclopedia of FUNK! This top ten charting 1967 LP hasn't been available on vinyl for many decades, that is until now! Cut from the Original Analog Mono Master Tapes by Kevin Gray and Robert Pincus & Pressed at RTI

Numbered Limited Edition of Only 2500 Copies

Some of the greatest jazz musicians of all time have passed through Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers: Horace Silver, Hank Mobley, Kenny Dorham, Wayne Shorter and Donald Byrd, among many others. However brief their stay, working with the demanding and full-throttle drummer not only increased their visibility, but also their chops and interpretive capacity. Blakey's ability to drum up the best players in the game may have even eclipsed his superhuman ability to play drums.

Altoist Jackie McLean, trumpeter Bill Hardman, bassist Spanky deBrest, and pianist Sam Dockery join the fold here to along with Blakey deliver whole-bop goodness on five propulsive, fiery tracks. True to its title, this LP bops hard, with a ferocious swing, boundless energy and telepathic communication between players - especially Blakey and Hardman. Considering the rhythmic demands of Blakey's locomotive playing style, this was an incredible achievement.

Impex Records has cut this gorgeous, limited edition (2,500 pressings) 180-gram LP with the original analog mono master tapes and without computer processing of any kind. You hear all the vivacious interplay that occurred on that weekend in 1957 when Blakey and crew forged a bold new vision of muscular, funky jazz. This is music that still resonates over 50 years later. Not to be missed!

    Worship The Sun

Allah-Las met while working at Amoeba Music, a key destination for music lovers in Los Angeles. While this experience helped shape their sensibility, their sound was forged in an underground basement where they came together as a band. They began gigging in Los Angeles in 2008, refining their live performance, and finally released their first 7" single Catamaran / Long Journey in 2011. In 2012, they began their relationship with Innovative Leisure, releasing their first self-titled album, Allah-Las, anchored by their second single Tell Me (What's On Your Mind) / Sacred Sands. The release was met with critical acclaim and the band toured extensively in the States and abroad before going back into the studio to record their follow-up.

Allah-Las' second album, Worship The Sun, expands on the sound established by their maiden effort, honing their fusion of West Coast garage rock and roll, Latin percussion and electric folk. As richly textured and timeless as a Southern California beach break, the songs are evocative of Los Angeles' storied past. Beatniks, artists, surfers, nomads. Remnants of a bygone Sunset Strip. Golden tans and cosmic sunsets. One can feel the warmth of the sun, but the band deftly avoids the kitsch so often indulged by lovers of these things. Hints of Byrds, Love, Felt, and those who follow are threaded into the tapestry.

LA's seminal Ferus Gallery - the home of Wallace Berman, Ed Kienholz, Ed Ruscha, Billy Al Bengston - is paid homage in an eponymous instrumental, broadening the scope beyond mere sea, surf, and sand. The lyrics reveal a new maturity; reflections of a band that has grown together through experiences on the road and in the studio. Worship The Sun is at once the perfect soundtrack for the greatest surf film never made and for a golden hour drive through Topanga Canyon. Yet, while grounded in the Southern California experience, the appeal of the album is not limited by locale. It is a teenage symphony to the sun, for all those who know its grace.
