Their debut album features single Running Behind, featured in the 2015 Apple Watch commercial. HOLYCHILD is comprised of Liz Nistico and Louie Diller. They met in college in 2011, have been writing music ever since and call their genre, brat pop. This album takes on nothing less than the idea of power dynamics and inequality-be it racial, social status, or gender-motivated. The beats are wild and the tongues are placed firmly in cheek.

    Synthetique (Discontinued)

French indie pop trio Prototypes build on the hooky, New Wave-inspired sound of their debut (which was really a compilation of their first two independently released albums) with 2008's SYNTHETIQUE. Blending synth pop and the cheek of classic French pop, SYNTHETIQUE is as well constructed as it is enjoyable to listen to. Thanks to Isabelle Le Doussal's sexy vocals and the minimal, muscular sound of the band, Prototypes prove that simple, synth-driven pop tunes are alive and thriving.

    Bows + Arrows

The Walkmen may have had their collective tongue somewhat in cheek when they called their first record, Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone (Startime International/2001) but the acclaim and attention it received was anything but insincere. The Washington DC-bred, New York-based quintet's emphatic, deeply textured rock was embraced by fans, radio and press alike as something fresh and unexpected, which is why their second album, the Dave Sardy-produced Bows + Arrows, was equally as well received and was one of 2004's most acclaimed releases.

    Bad Year

After the release of their 2014 debut EP The World Is A Terrible Place And I Hate Myself And Want To Die, The Weaks went to work on creating the best rock and roll record of the decade. Bad Year, the first full length record from The Weaks, is filled with more guitars than all of the songs you've heard on the radio in the last ten years combined. Slowly making their way towards superstardom, The Weaks have taken everything you love about Weezer, Superchunk and Cheap Trick and squeezed them Together in eleven tracks of purified rock.

The Weaks keep the same tongue in cheek Tomfoolery that earned them their cult following With The World Is A Terrible Place And I Hate Myself And Want To Die (see Bad Year tracks 2, 9 & 11), and just like on that EP, Bad Year's cheeky titling is backed up by well-crafted, beautifully recorded, brilliantly catchy songs. The songwritingduo of Evan Bernard and Chris Baglivo may be silly, but they are no joke. Alternating between shredding rockers and pop-y sing-alongs, The Weaks have put their back into delivering you your new favorite record.

    Salt Lick (Deluxe Edition)

TAD was a mighty force in the late-'80s/early-'90s Seattle scene. Their heavy, churning rock/metal/punk buzz was a crucial part of Sub Pop's early years, and, along with peers like Mudhoney, Nirvana, and Soundgarden, they defined the sound that reinvigorated the rock world in the early '90s. TAD was led by the physically imposing yet incredibly sweet singer/guitarist TAD Doyle, with bassist Kurt Danielson (ex-Bundle of Hiss), drummer Steve Wied, and guitarist Gary Thorstensen. With an image that sometimes cast the band as deranged lumberjacks, and influence from Head of David and Killdozer, TAD put a uniquely rain-and-fog-coated Northwest spin on '80s underground rock. The band released two albums and a few EPs on Sub Pop between 1988 and 1991, all of which are now lovingly remastered by the band's friend and engineer Jack Endino (Soundgarden, Nirvana, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees) and repackaged with expansive liner notes.

After their 1989 debut album, God's Balls, TAD continued to write and record, releasing a string of singles and the Salt Lick EP between 1989 and 1990. Salt Lick features the single "Wood Goblins," the video for which MTV banned because it was, to the delicate eyes of MTV programmers, "too ugly." The sounds of Salt Lick are, indeed, wonderfully ugly, thanks in part to the involvement of noise-rock technician Steve Albini (Big Black, Shellac, Nirvana, The Jesus Lizard), who recorded the EP. The band continued to release singles and gain momentum in the press. As TAD himself puts it: "Lyrically we had a lot of subject matter that was meant to be tongue in cheek from the beginning but had been presented by Sub Pop and ourselves as true-to-life. As a result, the press had taken it all seriously and began to feed on and ravenously devour the mythology that we had created."

    Handcrafted in the USA

A magazine reviewer once wrote the following about the Manley 250's: In triode mode a pair of Manleys produces a remarkably three dimensional soundfield that is both convincing and seductive. When switched into tetrode mode, the Manleys have the brawn to deliver a full symphony orchestra directly into your living room. When I listened through the same cut through the triode mode tube amps, I cried. Yup, tears ran down my cheeks while I bounced up and down, waving my arms, physically buffeted by the raw emotion of the music. Emotion- that essential component at the very core of great music. The Manleys pass through that emotional information, but the (solid-state amps) don't.

Tried and true: The Manley 500 and 250 Watt Monoblocks are our most powerful push-pull production-models. Both the circuit design and the selected componentry have been refined over years and years of development. Reliability that you can depend upon combined with musical accuracy and emotional authority is what these amplifiers promise- and deliver. They are able to switch operation modes allowing the listener to choose between the sonically seductive qualities of triode and the more powerful Ultra-Linear configuration. We use big, beefy reservoir capacitors in the high voltage supplies giving plenty of instant energy for dynamic performance of transient peaks and bass impact and weight which often exceeds that of rival solid-state amplifiers. We run high voltages on the plates of the output tubes but operate them at lower current which will result in their longer life. Although each output tube has its own bias-adjust, We carefully fit each amplifier with computer-batched tubes for optimum performance. The bias adjustment pots and measuring points are conveniently located behind the oval front panel insert.

To avoid a heavy power drain when the cold amplifier is first switched on, we conceived a Soft-Start mode which also functions as an Ever-Warm position allowing the amplifiers to be always warmed up for pleasurable listening. Each amplifier only consumes 30 watts of power in Ever-Warm mode. A blinking green LED reminds the user that the amplifier is in warm-up mode because as all the power supplies are at half-voltage, the amplifier will still operate at half power when the Ever-Warm mode is engaged, so the user should use the MUTE switch when in this mode.

The front-panel mute switch and angled-back chassis make it easier to hook up the interconnects, speaker cables, and IEC power cord.

In our own in-house magnetics department, our R&D team completely redesigned all of our output transformers in 1998 with the goal to reclaim that luscious rich mid-range of our vintage designs. In 2013 we reworked the output transformer to operate the output stage in Ultra-Linear mode which is a great sounding balance between the detail of triode and the brawn of Tetrode. We also specifically set out to achieve a deeper bottom register at higher power with lower distortion. Hours and hours of listening tests, measurements, and fine-tuning brought an exciting and stunning result to our ears. We hope you will agree.

    You're Gonna Miss It All

Philadelphia's Modern Baseball are a uniquely contemporary band. Their
quirky, tuneful songs convey how it feels to be young and hopeless in modern
America-a cracked cellphone clutched in one's hand, subconsciously refreshing
social media, hoping to get noticed by that girl at the party and ignored by
the ghosts from high school past. Calling on Say Anything's bravado, the Front
Bottoms' tongue-in-cheek quirk and the Weakerthans' literary misery, Modern
Baseball have made a record with remarkable depth and relate-ability.

'La Sexorcisto : Devil Music Volume 1' was both a critical and commercial success for White Zombie, climbing up the charts in the US and gaining massive MTV video airplay and mainstream rock radio airplay with Thunder Kiss '65 and Black Sunshine. The album's sound is a mix of groove metal and funk metal with lots of B-movie samples. Tactless and continuously shocking, lyricist Rob Zombie reveals blatant tales of muscle cars, sleazy encounters, and Fangoria-mustered fantasy, clearly paying homage to vintage trash culture.

Rob Zombie explained he wanted to keep a groovable dance element in the music, a trait which is often absent in metal music. Weak appetites for raunchy, tongue-in-cheek decadence need not apply!

A true poet of the blues, Lightnin' Hopkins was a master of tall, tongue-in-cheek tales, often made up on the spot in the recording studio. The first song on this album, I'm Going to Build Me a Heaven of My Own, describes an encounter with a bearded man claiming to be Jesus Christ. Hopkins also puts his personal stamp on Willie Dixon's My Babe and Smokey Hogg's Too Many Drivers, among others.

    Strange Weather, Isn't It?

Everyones got a Berlin record in them and I guess we just wanted to see what
ours would sound like, !!!s lead singer Nic Offer says, with tongue partially in
cheek, of the groups fourth album, Strange Weather, Isnt It? Following in the
footsteps of artists like David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and Depeche Mode, who have
flocked to Berlin in order to mainline the citys legendary dark energy, !!! traveled
to the German capital to produce a record that is simultaneously brooding and
somehow their poppiest, most immediate record yet. !!! has also managed to
create the best distillation of the chaos, fun and intensity of !!!'s live show yet.
Strange Weather, Isnt It? was co-produced by the band with Eric Broucek,
who used to be the house engineer for DFA Records. We used everything we
could MacGyvered it together with a popsicle stick and a rubber band to make
it work and Eric was definitely instrumental in making that happen, says Offer.
The result is an album that is leaner and more detailed than any of !!!s previous
albums. In the early days wed put something deep in the mix, so that kids on
acid could hear it the 20th time they listened to it, says Offer. Now weve
    learned how to make records better. Its like the deep techno you hear in Berlin;
its molded down to its most basic essence, almost like a sculpture that you keep
working on to make it both denser and clearer at the same time. Offer pauses
for a moment to consider what hes saying. Dont get me wrong, though, you
should still check the record out on acid. Trust me.

The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory

The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory (commonly shortened to The 7 Day Theory or Don Killuminati and sometimes called Makaveli) is the fifth studio album by Tupac Shakur. Released under his new stage name Makaveli, it was his first studio album to be posthumously released.[9] The album was completely finished in a total of seven days during the first week of August 1996. The lyrics were written and recorded in only three days and mixing took an additional four days. These are among the very last songs Shakur recorded before his fatal shooting on September 7, 1996. The album was originally due for release in March 1997, but due to his death, Suge Knight released it four months earlier.

George Papa G Pryce, Former Head of Publicity for Death Row, claimed that Makaveli which we did was a sort of tongue-in-cheek, and it was not ready to come out, [but] after Tupac was murdered, it did come out... Before that, it was going to be a sort of an underground.

    American Hustle Soundtrack

Like Goodfellas and Boogie Nights before it, American Hustle's music celebrates the epic feel of '70s pop, rock, and disco and uses it to give its story extra heft. David O. Russell's tale of con men, Feds, and the mob has a lighter touch than either of those two movies, however, and this is reflected in the soundtrack's song choices. More than a few of these tracks are by Electric Light Orchestra as well as Jeff Lynne on his own, and the whimsical yet driving sound of 10538 Orchestra, Long Black Road, and Stream of Stars lends a tongue-in-cheek tone supported by Tom Jones' Delilah and Chris Stills' Live to Live. The album touches on some of the decade's definitive songs (Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Wings' Live and Let Die, Donna Summer's I Feel Love) but never sounds like a prepackaged hits-of-the-'70s collection, due in large part to unique choices like Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes' gritty version of Don't Leave Me This Way and Mayssa Karaa's otherworldly Arabic interpretation of Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit, which is so striking that it's one of the finest songs on an album packed with big names. A nuanced and playful soundtrack, American Hustle works well as a companion piece to the movie that spawned it and on its own.

As the first band ever signed to Fat Wreck Chords, Lagwagon displayed a uniquely melodic brand of technical speedy pop punk that eventually established the band as a bellwether of the modern pop-punk movement. With more than 20 years of material at their disposal, the idea of honoring the band's vast influence by compiling a 'best of' album came about. Joey (singer, songwriter and driving force behind Lagwagon) had a decidedly different take on the functionality of a greatest hits collection, believing that there is so much more to a band's legacy than their hits.

Instead of limiting the scope of, and essentially artistically neutering their original material for future generation, the band agreed to go the opposite direction and expose the evolution of Lagwagon. Recognizing the sacramental status of their first five albums (Duh, Trashed, Hoss, Double Plaidinum and Let's Talk About Feelings) within the punk world, the band set to work, culling the archives in order to create one of the most comprehensive audio narratives ever compiled.

The resulting 5 re-releases are nothing short of spectacular. Each album boasts the original track listing alongside demos, outtakes, EP's, B-sides and unstructured jams from the accompanying era (including tons of previously unreleased material), all remastered from the original analog tapes. All 5 albums are also repackaged with expanded artwork including never before seen photos and an oral history provided by the band members.

Released in 1997, Lagwagon's fourth full-length album Double Plaidinum is their first without the original line-up as as guitarist Shawn Dewey and drummer Derrick Plourde both left the band prior to its recording. The band's take on the crossover success of other melodic punk acts at the time is parodied with the album's tongue-in-cheek cover art. This Fat Wreck Chords vinyl reissue of Double Plaidinum consists of a remastered version of the original album plus demos, outtakes, EP's and B-sides.

    Cattle Callin' (Awaiting Repress)

Shelton Hank Williams, aka Hank III, presents two new projects: Attention Deficit Domination and 3 Bar Ranch Cattle Callin. Both are intensely metal-driven records on which Hank III plays all instruments. Attention Deficit Domination is a pressure-dropping, doom rock statement that has been anticipated by his hardcore fans for years, and Cattle Callin explores a new mind-bending 'Cattle Core' sound, featuring Hank III's speed metal woven in and around actual cattle auctioneering.

Attention Deficit Domination allows the listener into Hank III's crunching metal world of the heavy and the slow, complete with his renowned fundamental percussion. The nine tracks hardly allow you to get up from the floor. With songs such as I Feel Sacrificed and the tormented Livin Beyond Doom, Hank III works a ground somewhere between devastation and high theater. Both A.D.D. and Cattle Callin' are very intense. It's very manic, Hank III explains. It's hard to follow, even for the guys I play with. I'm playing everything on these two. It's very complex.

There are 23 tracks on Cattle Callin, featuring Hank III's driving, formidable guitar attack, with instrumentation built around the auctioneering tongue-in-cheek humor with titles such as Heavy Cattle and Angus of Death. Also fans of bluegrass will love the banjo-driven Cattle Callin Lonesome Blues, featuring Mason. I was raised around it (cattle auctioneering) and it's pretty amazing how fast these guys are, Hank III says. Hip-hop has looped auctioneers. Bluegrass has meessed around with it a little bit. This has never been done in the heavy metal world.

    Kill Bill Vol. 1 Soundtrack

Fashion be damned: Pop culture is just one big Hometown Buffet for writer-director Quentin Tarantino. Nowhere has that sensibility been more apparent than on his hand-picked soundtrack choices, and this oft tongue-in-cheek tale of a female assassin's revenge (his first film in six years) is no exception. With dizzy, almost palpable glee, Tarantino evokes the international hall-of-mirrors influences that energize martial arts films and much of Asian pop culture in general. Thus the hip-hop of Wu Tang's RZA (who, along with composer Charles Bernstein, concocts what passes for the score's traditional cues) somehow finds itself but one ingredient in a heady souffle that includes vintage TV and film cue rarities (Al Hirt's main title from The Green Hornet, Bernard Herrmann's haunting theme from Twisted Nerve, the spaghetti western melodrama of Luis Bacalov's The Grand Duel, Isaac Hayes in full blaxploitation mode on Run Fay Run), Charlie Feathers' vintage rockabilly and a pan-kitsch sensibility that encompasses Zamfir, Nancy Sinatra's angst-in-the-pants take Bang, Bang and Santa Esmeralda's disco-era workout of Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood. Tarantino's contemporary Japan-Pop selections are no less giddy, ranging from Meiko Kaji's sultry Flower of Carnage to The 5.6.7.8's loopy Woo Hoo. It's everything we've come to expect from a Tarantino score (including dialog excerpts and a few sound fx stingers), with a madcap trip around the pop music world thrown in for good measure. -- Jerry McCulley

    Bulldozer

Includes Liner Notes By Matt Pinfield & Kevin Devine

Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Kevin Devine (Bad Books, Kevin Devine and the Goddamn Band), announces the date for the highly anticipated dual release of Bulldozer and Bubblegum.

Earlier this year, Devine launched the Kickstarter campaign to fund the two releases with the goal of creating a solo album with Rob Schnapf (Elliott Smith, Beck, Guided by Voices) and a full band album with the Goddamn Band produced by rock group Brand New's Jesse Lacey. The result was an overwhelming amount of support from fans, raising more than $114,000 to support the albums and subsequent tours - the 12th largest music project funded through Kickstarter to date.

I've made six records. In America they've been released on five different labels. It's a pretty unstable industry. What's made it a sustainable and a justifiable career for me has been the audience and their close, passionate connection to the music, said Devine on his choice to use Kickstarter.

The ten songs that comprise Bulldozer, Devine's solo album laced with electric folk-rock and pop ballads, were recorded in L.A. from March to April 2013 and produced by frequent collaborator Schnapf. With Devine on guitar, Schnapf gathered a stellar group of musicians to back him-Russell Pollard and Elijah Thomson (Everest) on drums and bass, respectively; Isobel Campbell (Belle & Sebastian) on backup vocals; and Schnapf himself on guitar, mellotron, and percussion.

The commanding big sound of 'Now: Navigate!' with its chiming guitars and tongue-in-cheek wordplay, is a stampede of power pop, as is the quintessential rock/pop sound of 'Little Bulldozer.' Songs like 'She Can See Me' bring out Devine's punk rock roots.

'From Here' was written in the days after Hurricane Sandy when Devine put things on hold to volunteer around Staten Island, where he partially grew up, and Brooklyn, where he now lives. Primarily, he came to the aid of two close friends who had lost their homes in the hurricane. Devine aided in food and material drives and played in benefit concerts. On 'For Eugene', centered around the death of Eugene Contrubis, one of the many who drowned on Staten Island, Campbell lends her voice to add a moving layer to a song that swells to high emotional peaks.

    Blue Smoke

Dolly Parton represents many things to different people, and the Country Music Hall of Fame member says her upcoming release is a reflection of her varied musical sides. The singer will release Blue Smoke in 2014 for Sony Music Masterworks in partnership with her own Dolly Records, and she stresses there's a little bit of something for everyone.

On this [album] I think there are all of the colors of my life in all the areas of music that you've allowed me to dabble in through the years, said Parton You will hear my old world mountain voice on songs like 'Banks of The Ohio' and 'If I Had Wings' my tender side on songs like 'Miss You - Miss Me' and 'Unlikely Angel.' My country / bluegrass side of songs like 'Home,' 'Blue Smoke' and 'Don't Think Twice' and my funny tongue-in-cheek side on 'Lover du Jour.

The album also contains her Grammy-nominated collaboration with Kenny Rogers, You Can't Make Old Friends, as well as a track with Willie Nelson, From Here To The Moon and Back.

Beginning with the release of Just Between You and Me with Porter Wagoner in 1968, Parton has placed 41 albums in the top ten of the Billboard Country Albums chart. Her most recent trip into that territory was 2009's Backwoods Barbie. Between record sales and digital downloads, she is one of a handful of female vocalists to sell over 100 million records during her career. She was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1969, won the CMA Entertainer of the Year award in 1978, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999.

The Great Crossover Potential (Awaiting Repress)

The Sugarcubes truly sounded like nothing else in the late '80s/early '90s or anything that came before, creating an unusual hybrid of pop, dance and the avant-garde. The tongue-in-cheek titled, The Great Crossover Potential is the Sugarcubes' greatest hits collection, originally released in 1998 and it includes tracks from the group's first three albums, with no additional new tracks or remixes.

    Hot Chili Mama

Beausoleil has been steadily releasing albums of indigenous Louisiana music since the mid-'70s. Led by the incendiary fiddle playing of founding member Michael Doucet, the group draws on Cajun (a hybrid of American country and traditional French folk songs), zydeco (a hybrid of Cajun and R&B), rock, jazz, and blues. Though each of Beausoleil's releases is supremely roots-conscious, some, such as Hot Chili Mama, represent the spectrum of the group's influences.

Such conventional Cajun material as Le Bons Temps Rouler Waltz and the spicy, danceable title cut, which features standard zydeco percussion such as rubboard, triangle and spoons, alternate with touches of calypso (La Chanson De Cinquante Sous), and even a tongue-in-cheek stab at klezmer gumbo (The Mosquito That Ate Up My Sweetheart in New Iberia Polka). Fertile fiddle and accordion interplay and, of course, French lyrics bring the music's rich history to the fore, while the band's adventurous and vigorous approach makes these songs anything but museum pieces. Hot Chili Mama is one of Beausoleil's best, most representative efforts.

    Excitable Boy

    Import

Excitable Boy is the third album by Warren Zevon, released in 1978. It includes the top 40 success Werewolves of London, featuring Mick Fleetwood on drums and John McVie on bass. The album brought Warren to commercial attention and remains the best-selling album of his career.

The tracks Excitable Boy and Werewolves of London were considered macabrely humorous by some critics. The historical Veracruz dramatizes the United States occupation of Veracruz, and likewise Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner is a fictionalization of a mercenary in Africa. Lawyers, Guns and Money is a tongue-in-cheek take on Cold War paranoia. In addition, there are two ballads about life and relationships (Accidentally Like a Martyr and Tenderness on the Block), as well as a dance tune (Nighttime in the Switching Yard).

Additional musicians included in the album's creation are band members Jorge Calderón on vocals, Danny Kootch Kortchmar on percussion and guitar, and Russ Kunkel on drums. Among others, also Jackson Browne, Jeff Porcaro, Linda Ronstadt and Waddy Wachtel are featured as session musicians.
