The End Of An Ear (Discontinued)

    Import

Featuring significant contributions from his Soft Machine bandmate Elton Dean, amongst others, The End Of An Ear is one of the more adventurous titles in Robert Wyatt's catalog. It's an album much more in line with the electronic jazz experimentation of Miles Davis, and the avant-garde, than the singer-songwriter material Wyatt would later be known for. Despite being a very serious record, Wyatt's playful nature and sense of humor still shine through. The End Of An Ear is an absolutely essential piece of the Canterbury prog scene and Wyatt's canon, lovingly reissued here on LP by Cherry Red Phonograph.

The Boss Of The Blues (Pure Pleasure)

Besides helping to invent rock 'n roll with his hit Shake, Rattle and Roll, Big Joe Turner was one of the most soulful blues shouters of all time. His best albums married the boogie-woogie piano stylings of the great Pete Johnson with a jazzy jumpin' horn section. Boss Of The Blues is arguably Joe's best recording, in part because he sang with particular gusto during these 1956 sessions. At the time, Boss Of The Blues marked a nostalgic return to the jump-blues style that Turner helped pioneer in the '40s. Besides Johnson, Boss featured some of Kansas City's finest ever jazzmen and various members of Count Basie's band, including Joe Newman (trumpet), Pete Brown (alto sax), Lawrence Brown (trombone), Frank Wess (tenor sax) and Freddie Green (guitar). The bawdy Cherry Red and the rollicking Roll 'Em Pete are my favorite Turner-Johnson collaborations. Both feature some incredible playing by the piano master. Turner's versions of I Want A Little Girl, Low Down Dog, You're Driving Me Crazy, and Morning Glories are definitive. If I had to compile a list of my 10 favorite albums, Boss Of The Blues would be there.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Scratching The Surface (Pure Pleasure)

The Groundhogs' debut album is a long way from the 'classic' sound of the better-known 'Thank Christ for the Bomb/Split/Who Will Save the World?' trilogy. Indeed, the mellow classic blues through which the band pursues its nine tracks offer the unsuspecting listener little more than a direct blast from the peak of the British blues boom past. Early Fleetwood Mac, Chicken Shack, and Savoy Brown all haunted precisely the same corridors as Scratching The Surface, with only the occasional burst of fuzzed Tony McPhee guitar to distinguish the sonics from the rest of the pack. That said, Scratching The Surface ranks among the finest albums to emerge out of that entire period, a moody shuffle that includes an epic recounting of the Chicago classic Still a Fool and which matches five solid McPhee originals with a pair of blistering contributions from outgoing harmonica whiz Steve Rye. In fact, his Early in the Morning and You Don't Love Me might well be the album's best numbers, a discrepancy that puts one in mind of another of the blues boom's hottest acts, Jethro Tull, and just how much they changed once a founding member (Mick Abrahams) departed. Again, if you arrive at Scratching The Surface in search of a fresh Cherry Red or Status People, you'll probably be disappointed. But if you want to hear the blues sluicing straight out of the Southern England Delta, there are precious few better introductions.

    Musicians:

    • Tony McPhee (guitar, vocal)

    • Steve Rye (harmonica, vocal)

    • Pete Cruikshank (bass)

    • Ken Pustelnik (drums)

    Tomorrow Is The Question!

The springboard in Ornette Coleman's pursuit of freedom of expression as a soloist, Tomorrow Is The Question! is notable for its lack of piano, which the
saxophone maverick chose to strike from the record in favor of a quartet composed of drummer Shelly Manne, trumpeter Don Cherry, and alternatingly
Percy Heath and Red Mitchell on bass. Coleman's belief was that removing piano and thus layers of harmonic structure, would allow the soloists to truly
roam freely around the tune, pioneering new dimensions in sonic interplay. As a result, Tomorrow Is the Question! was a very literal title; where would
Coleman's iconoclastic vision take him next? The free-jazz pioneer was just getting started, and what a dazzling start it is! This essential document of
American Jazz History is now available on vinyl.

Society would deem a prodigious girl can't be in a progressive rock band while also being in complete control of its creative vision, business plan and social messaging. Society is wrong. Clementine Creevy, a 19-year-old teen Queen, dreamed up Cherry Glazerr in her LA bedroom alone and is perhaps more capable of figuring a music career out than anyone who attempts this treacherous life path.

Back in 2014, much-loved Cali imprint Burger Records released Cherry Glazerr's intoxicating debut Haxel Princess. The New York Times called Grilled Cheese one of their Top Songs of 2014 alongside heavy hitters such as BeyoncÉ, Taylor Swift and Future. The band toured across the country and abroad, between Clementine's acting responsibilities on the award-winning show Transparent, and gained fans everywhere with their wild lives shows. On their upcoming sophomore album, Apocalipstick, the band worked with rock'n'roll wizard Joe Chicarelli (White Stripes, The Shins, The Strokes) and Carlos de la Garza (Bleached, M83, Tegan and Sara). With their help and the band's newfound self-discipline and motivation, Cherry Glazerr has evolved into a wildly complex, hugely guitar heavy, and unapologetically loud machine.

We're thrilled to announce details of Cherry Ghost's third album 'Herd Runners' which will be released on Heavenly Recordings/PIAS.

The record follows up 2007's 'Thirst For Romance' and 2010's 'Beneath This Burning Shoreline', which have since seen Simon Aldred become a songwriter-for-hire, nurturing upcoming British talent including Sam Smith and Kwabs, as well as release a set of critically lauded post-midnight electronic love songs under the guise of Out Cold.

Recorded in Sheffield with long-term Richard Hawley collaborator Colin Elliot and mixed in Bath with Dan Austin, Herd Runners is ten perfectly crafted tales of heartbreak and hope - shifting from soaring, symphonic pop ('Clear Skies Ever Closer') to melancholic lock-in blues ('Drinking for Two') via an almost uncompromisingly hopeful rhythmic shuffle ('The World Could Turn').

Technically speaking, fire is not an object, but an event: the rapid oxidation of a material in the chemical process of combustion by which heat and light are released into the surrounding environment. What we typically think of as "fire"-the often mysteriously beautiful and strangely hypnotic fireplace flicker of white, yellow, or red-orange glow-is actually just the visible part of the fire's flame, containing the superheated byproducts of the fire's incomplete exothermic reaction giving off visible light as excess energy is released. Interestingly, the cherry-red flame of a smoldering campfire measures somewhere around 700 Celsius; the deep orange flame of a candle, lit at a bedside or suffusing a living room with gentle aroma, typically burns at around 1000 Celsius; and the dazzling white flame created by a meteor as it enters Earth's atmosphere can often exceed 1500 Celsius! While fire is commonly considered to be a destructive event, it can also be a very effective tool for managing and enhancing fields, forests, and wetlands: Native Americans discovered that while fire killed woody plants, it encouraged the growth of fruit-bearing shrubs and forage-producing grasslands. Of course, fire's unique potential has been known for some time: It's likely that humans began using fire to heat food approximately 1 million years ago.

Among the classical elements, fire is commonly associated with energy, assertiveness, and passion. In Greek Mythology, the cult hero Prometheus defied the gods by providing humanity the gift of fire, thereby enabling progress and civilization. People born under the astrological signs of Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are thought to have fire personalities: They are enthusiastic, extroverted, and, like our good friend Prometheus, they are rebellious, passionate, brave, and valiant. It's no wonder that we have for so long been drawn to fire. A thing to be feared, respected, and loved, fire is that which drives us into the unknown, lights our way through darkness, and signals our way back home.

SOLID PERFECT-SURFACE SILVER (PSS) CONDUCTORS: Solid conductors prevent both strand-to-strand contacts and magnetic interaction, major sources of distortion. Surface quality is critical because a conductor can be considered as a rail-guide for both the electric fields within a conductor, and for the magnetic fields outside the conductor. While less perfectly processed silver can have the same irritating tweeter-in-your-face sound as silver-plated strands, PSS Silver's smooth surface, extraordinarily careful processing, and high purity, deliver sound as smooth and beautiful as our PSC+ Copper, but with significantly higher resolution.

DIELECTRIC-BIAS SYSTEM (DBS, US Pat #S 7,126,055 & 7,872,195 B1): Creates a strong, stable electrostatic field which saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This dramatically reduces dielectric induced smearing of the signal, letting sound emerge from a "black" background.

CARBON-BASED 8-LAYER NOISE-DISSIPATION (NDS): Shields-the-shield, reducing RFI contamination of the equipment ground plane.

FEP AIR-TUBES (FEP IS A FLUORO-POLYMER): Almost no contact between conductors and insulation reduces smearing and preserves dynamics.

TRIPLE-BALANCED GEOMETRY: Proper ground-reference conductor prevents using the shield as an inferior ground-reference conductor.

DOUBLE-CONTACT COLD-WELDED REUSABLE PLUGS, HANGING-SILVER PLATING DIRECTLY OVER MACHINED SOLID EXTREME-PURITY RED COPPER.

    Gatefold Sleeve

    High-Quality PVC Protective Sleeve

4-Page Booklet With Liner Notes And Photos

Featuring ''Red Red Wine'', ''I Got You Babe'' And ''Rat In Mi Kitchen''

Early 1980, UB40 scored their first success with ''Food For Thought'', reaching high in the charts. By the time they released their first album they were already so successful that they had signed off on unemployment benefit, leading to the stamped Signing Off featured on form 40, for the sleeve of their debut album. The first dub album ever to reach the album charts in the U.K. included ''One In Ten'' and ''Don't Slow Down''.

In 1983 the band put on a new project, boasting ten cover versions of Jamaican hits and, contrary to low expectations, it became a huge hit and the band's first number one album. Tracks included are ''Cherry Oh Baby'' and ''Please Don't Make Me Cry'' and ''Red Red Wine''. The latter was a rather poppy song and became the band's biggest-selling single ever, entailing their definitive worldwide breakthrough.

There have been lots of collaborations through the years and most of these became huge hit songs. Together with Chrissie Hynde UB40 recorded two singles: ''I Got You Babe'' (1985) and ''Breakfast In Bed'' (1988). They teamed up with Afrika Bambaataa for ''Reckless'' (1988) and with Robert Palmer the band released ''I'll Be Your Baby Tonight'' (1990), just to name a few.

UB40 - COLLECTED has captured all the different phases of the band in one complete album, from classic hits combined with the new!

My World Was Made For You is the debut album from The Icypoles, four gals from Melbourne who would just as easily fit into a Bande a Part dance scene or be happily serving cherry pie at Twin Peaks' Double R Diner*. Having become a familiar fixture on Melbourne's inner-north stages, and with two previous releases (2009's Getting Ready cassette and 2011's Promise to Stay 7" EP), The Icypoles' musical adventures can be traced back to the early 00s, with half the band finding their formative footing playing in Architecture in Helsinki.

Strung Out: Volume One (Box Set) (Awaiting Repress)

    Remixed & Remastered

Includes 4 LP's (3 Albums + Bonus LP Of The Skinny Years), DVD & Giant Poster

STRUNG OUT'S last album, 2009's Agents of the Underground, was their 7th full length and celebrated the band's 20th anniversary. A true testament to their relevance and longevity is their ability to organically evolve through the years. STRUNG OUT began their career as a strictly melodic punk band known for their tight musicianship and catchy melodies but evolved into a more aggressive, metal-infused veteran punk band. That is what all of us were most interested in capturing: the true musical journey of one of the founding bands on Fat Wreck Chords.

This box set, Volume One, showcases the first three albums: Another Day in Paradise, Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues, and Twisted By Design, all fully remixed by Ryan Greene, helping to display the true power of these songs along with nuances previously unheard. We've re-scanned all the artwork from the original pieces and included deluxe foldout inserts with never before seen photos and extensive liner notes from the band. The real gem in this set, in the works for a decade (!!!), is the first-ever STRUNG OUT DVD! You get a full 2012 concert where they performed the Suburban and Twisted albums in their entirety, all professionally filmed and recorded, and that's just the start. There's a TON of footage from the '90s: shows, tour antics, interviews, behind the scenes stuff; a veritable treasure trove of classic STRUNG OUT. For you vinyl hounds, the LP box set includes The Skinny Years Before We Got Fat, remastered and on vinyl for the first time ever! Finally, we think the box set does a nice job of encapsulating the distinct personality of Jim Cherry's contribution to STRUNG OUT. Jim is another member of the Fat family who passed way too soon, and as STRUNG OUT vocalist Jason Cruz states in his liner notes to the fans, "This box set is as much for Jim as it is for you." We hope it serves his legacy and your expectations.

    Lost In Transition

Originally born out of lazy days that Chuck (singer of the Mad Caddies) and Todd (original drummer for the Mad Caddies) spent jamming together for fun, Ellwood organically matured into a full-fledged band with the addition of friends Dustin (Cherry Poppin' Daddies) on keys and Graham on bass.

The result of this collaboration is Lost In Transition, a nine song album that could aptly be described as a soundtrack to the long, slow, carefree days of the California summer. The synergy amongst the band members is palpable, as each track flows with a natural effortless and seamless harmony.

Lost In Transition takes the most flavorful bits of the Mad Caddies often frenetic sound and hones them into a fluid brand of reggae that immediately entrances the listener. It's a refreshingly honest album with no agenda other than to be exactly what it is: the product of four friends/musicians riding a groove and imparting their own unique perspective on the reggae/ska genre.

    Summer Camp

Summer Camp are Jeremy Warmsley and Elizabeth
Sankey - the "head and heart" of the band respectively,
as they describe themselves - and 'Summer Camp' is
the follow up to their debut 'Welcome To Condale'.
Elizabeth and Jeremy followed their debut with the
'Always' EP in July 2012, five new songs that saw the
duo equally adept at melodious dancefloor fillers as
guitar pop. Written on piano, the tracks, including
singles 'Life' and 'Always', took on a life of their own in
the studio, resulting in a set described as "LCD Soundsystem versus Donna Summer" by NME, and "delirious
disco-informed synthpop," by Stereogum, who proclaimed it "the best thing they've ever done".

With "Summer Camp" they headed into the studio with
legendary producer Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur).
The result is an eleven-track marvel, cherry-picking the
best bits of 'Welcome To Condale' and 'Always' , and
weaving them into a cohesive whole that is very much
the sound of Summer Camp in 2013, a confident, fullyrealised body of work that befits the cliche 'all killer, no
filler'. "This album is a statement of intent: this is us,
take it or leave it..." says Jeremy. "... Please take it."

    Black Fire! New Spirit!

Soul Jazz Records' new release Black Fire! New Spirits! Explores deep, radical and spiritual jazz in the USA in the period between 1957-75. In the 1960s and into the 1970s, jazz music in the USA was in an almost constant state of revolution, with the music and lives of African-American artists radicalised by the advent of the civil rights movement, Black Power, and a new spiritual awakening. For over 20 years now Soul Jazz Records have been exploring this rich area of deep and spiritual jazz music with an array of albums such as Freedom, Rhythm and Sound, Universal Sounds of America, New Thing, Soul Jazz Love Strata East and more. Soul Jazz Records have also released a steady stream of reissues of lost and classic deep jazz releases over the years from artists such as Art Ensemble of Chicago, Steve Reid, Pharaoh Sanders and others. This new album features groundbreaking and revolutionary artists such as Don Cherry, Archie Shepp, The Last Poets and Yusef Lateef as well as many rare and deep lost tracks from lesser known artists such as Creative Artists Ensemble, Granchan Moncur, Lloyd McNeill, Tyrone Washington and others.

    2. The Last Poets - It's A Trip
    3. Don Cherry - Utopia And Visions
