The Chicago/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series Continues!

Celebrate The 45th Anniversary Of Their Debut Masterpiece Chicago Transit Authority!

Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso And Lee Loughnane From Chicago!

Chicago Transit Authority was the first chapter in a long line of multiplatinum smash albums
for Chicago which begun in 1969. Featuring the original award winning line-up of Robert Lamm
(lead vocals/keyboards), Peter Cetera (lead vocals/bass), Terry Kath (lead vocals/guitars), the
legendary horns of Lee Loughnane (trumpet), Walter Parazaider (saxophone/woodwinds), James
Pankow (trombone) plus Danny Seraphine (drums), Chicago Transit Authority is undoubtedly one
of the biggest selling albums of the classic rock era and is also one of the most revered offerings
in their huge catalog. Buoyed by the success of huge hit singles like Does Anybody Really Know
What Time It Is?, Questions 67 and 68 and Beginnings, Chicago's debut album was filled with so
many great songs, it could be its own greatest hits collection.

Further smashes like the powerful funkified version of I'm a Man, the stellar Introduction,
plus the late Terry Kath masterwork Free Form Guitar all truly make this fine album even more
of a treasure trove of classic rock enjoyment.

It's been several decades since the rare original vinyl version of C.T.A. has been available
that is until now! Friday Music is very honored to continue the CHICAGO 180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE
VINYL SERIES with their debut masterpiece Chicago Transit Authority. Mastered impeccably from
the original Chicago Records master tapes by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music Studios and Capitol
Records in Hollywood, CA, with the supervision of Chicago's Lee Loughnane, this album is truly
    a thrilling audiophile vinyl release.

For this special limited edition, we have also included the original full color album cover

    Chicago VI

Chicago VI was another solid platinum plus smash for Chicago. Buoyed by the success of huge hit singles like Just You 'N' Me & Feelin' Stronger Every Day, their sixth platter was chock filled of even more smashes like the piano driven opener Critic's Choice and Hollywood. Friday Music is honored to announce the CHICAGO 180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE VINYL SERIES with our first chapter CHICAGO VI This LP features the original core line-up of Lamm, Kath, Cetera, etc. Mastered impeccably from the original Chicago Records/ Warner Bros. tapes by Joe Reagoso, also presented in a nice gatefold cover.

Chicago: Terry Kath (vocals, guitar); Robert Lamm (vocals, keyboards); Lee Loughnane (vocals, trumpet); Peter Cetera (vocals, bass); James Pankow (trombone); Walter Parazaider (woodwinds); Danny Seraphine (drums). Additional personnel: J.G. O'Rafferty (pedal steel guitar); Laudir De Oliveira, Joe Lala (congas). Recorded at Caribou Ranch, Nederland, Colorado in February 1973.Includes liner notes by Don Heckman. All tracks have been digitally remastered. The album on which Chicago fully dropped its early jazz-rock roots and went strictly pop, 1973's CHICAGO VI features two of the band's finest singles, the romantic Just You 'N' Me and the uplifting Feelin' Stronger Every Day, along with a solid set of album tracks. Although Robert Lamm's solo piano ballad Critics' Choice reveals a thin skin concerning the group's poor reviews from the hipster press, Terry Kath's What's This World Coming To and Lamm's dreamy Something in This City Changes People are nearly as strong as the big hits. Elsewhere, the country-fried In Terms of Two proves an interesting stylistic detour. Chicago has always been a definitive singles band, but those looking to explore their catalogue beyond the hits should check out this excellent release.

    Cut From Analogue Masters

    Original Artwork

With a career spanning over 46 years to the present day, Chicago have firmly established themselves as one of the most successful rock bands in history, boasting 22 gold, 18 platinum, and 8 multi-platinum albums. The band began as a politically charged, somewhat experimental, rock band that later progressed onto a predominantly softer melodic sound. They found vast international fame thanks to a number of hit ballads within their astonishing 21 top-ten singles.

Released in 1975 Chicago IX: Chicago's Greatest Hits was Chicago's first greatest hits album. It reached #1 in the US during a chart stay of an incredible 72 weeks and went on to go 5 x Platinum in the US.

    Chicago VII

The Chicago/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series Continues!

Celebrate The 40th Anniversary Of The Legendary #1 Chicago VII - First Time Audiophile Vinyl!

Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso And Lee Loughnane From Chicago!

Chicago VII was another huge multiplatinum plus #1 smash for Chicago and a stunning return to the double LP
format for this brilliant band. Featuring the original award winning line-up of Robert Lamm (lead vocals/keyboards),
Peter Cetera (lead vocals/bass), Terry Kath (lead vocals/guitars), the legendary horns of Lee Loughnane (trumpet),
Walter Parazaider (saxophone/woodwinds), James Pankow (trombone) plus Danny Seraphine (drums), Chicago VII is
undoubtedly one of their biggest selling albums and is also one of the most revered offerings in their huge catalog.

Buoyed by the success of huge hit singles like (I've Been) Searchin' So Long and Call On Me, their seventh album
was filled with more smashes like the power driver Robert Lamm smash Lifesaver, the funk rocker Woman Don't Want
To Love Me and the Chicago/Beach Boys duet smash hit single Wishing You Were Here.

The wonderful 2 LP release also features a fine array of long band workouts on instrumentals which feature each
bandmate laying down some serious grooves on tunes like Hanky Panky, Aire and Prelude To Aire, which of course
feature the horn work of the founders Lee Loughnane, Walter Parazaider and James Pankow.

Several of the fine tunes on this well-crafted album also feature the sorely missed vocals and guitar of Terry
Kath, where he truly shines on tracks like the progressive jazz rock infused Song Of The Evergreens and the stunning
Byblos, both of which make this fine album even more of a treasure trove of classic rock enjoyment.

Peter Cetera shines vocally throughout on the LP as well, especially on the hit acoustic ballad sounds of Happy
Man. While being one of the more signature songs from this collection, the tune also was known for its false start
making it one of Chicago's more collectable rarities if you were lucky to own the original vinyl version from 1974.
It's been several decades since the rare original vinyl version of Chicago VII has been available that is until now!

We're Gonna Change The World - The 60's Chicago Garage Sound Of Quill Records

Chicago was a great place to be if you were a member of a rock & roll combo in the mid-'60s -- there were plenty of teen clubs, radio stations were happy to play local product, and several Windy City labels were ready and willing to take hometown acts into the studio and get their music into stores. Dunwich Records and USA Records were the biggest labels in Chicago and both scored a handful of national hits, but they were far from the only game in town, and Peter Wright, a successful record promo man who went on to manage the New Colony Six, ran one of the city's most interesting small labels, Quill Records, which released top-notch sides on a number of fine groups and licensed a few of his masters to larger labels out of town.

While Quill only lasted a bit less than two years (from 1966 to 1967), their output was impressive stuff from an eclectic variety of acts, and the great reissue label Sundazed, only a few months after releasing a definitive two-disc overview of the USA Records catalog (2131 South Michigan Avenue: 60's Garage and Psychedelia from U.S.A. and Destination Records), have unearthed 19 highlights from Quill's archives on We're Gonna Change the World! The 60's Chicago Garage Sound of Quill Productions.

Many of Quill's acts followed the trends of the major British acts of the day, but hardly all of them; the Exterminators deliver a screed against long hair and take an America first position on rock with the over the top Declaration of Independence '65, Hot Pastrami by the Don Caron Orchestra is a high-powered instrumental dominated by honking saxophones and fuzzy guitars, and I'm Going to Change the World by the Commons Ltd. suggests the psychedelic revolution that was lurking around the corner while still maintaining a high degree of sneer and swagger.

And even the acts that were looking to the U.K. for inspiration were turning their eyes to unusual places; the Delights were clearly obsessed with the Zombies, so much so that their original tune Every Minute, Every Hour, Every Moment mimics their style just as well as their cover of Just Out of Reach, and the Skunks, who true to their name bleached stripes into their hair, also leaned to the moody side of British pop with Don't Ask Why and a fine cover of the Beatles' It's Only Love (though Do the Duck is a raw and fuzzy celebration of some would-be dance craze).

2131 South Michigan Avenue: 60's Garage And Psychedelia From USA And Destination Records

Though the 60s garage band explosion was felt in every corner ofthe country, the local uprising of talent in Chicago thrived unlike anywhere else. The Windy City had the perfect infrastructure in place; from a booming population of teenagers, to hip music stores in every suburb, a proliferation of teen clubs willing to take their money, and a powerhouse radio station (WLS) equally up to promoting local bands. When it came to giving local groups a shot at 45 rpm fame, no Chicago labelnot even the hallowed Dunwich Recordswas more prolific than USA Records. USAs Jim Golden was such a strong supporter of Midwest talent that he started up a second label focused solely in this area, Destination Records.

A quarter century into the CD age, its hard to believe these pivotal labels have never been properly anthologized. Until now, that is! Sundazed once again arrives to the rescue with an exhaustive dive into the pure, undiluted garage side of USA and Destination Records; tapping into everything from priceless artifacts from the Lost Agency, the Foggy Notions, and Park Avenue Playground to label hitmakers the Buckinghams, the Cryan Shames, and the Flock at their most rockin. Theres so much impossibly great music on these labels, we had to expand this collection to 40 tracks.

The album artwork is stuffed with rare photos, band bios, and an interview with the legendary Jim Golden. For a full course of Chicago 66 garage at its finest, look no further than 2131 South Michigan Avenue: 60s Garage & Psychedelia from USA and Destination Records!

    North by Northwest Soundtrack

This timeless 1959 Alfred Hitchcock thriller set a new benchmark for the format across the following decades as the precursor to James Bond and the wide-screen world of larger than life action adventure. Starring Cary Grant, it's the story of a man in peril being pursued across America from New York to Mount Rushmore.

Bernard Herrmann's score for the film is overwhelmingly an orchestral tour-de-force and this release presents the fullest of stereo mixes of the original recordings under the baton of the composer himself. It allows the listener to appreciate the incredible line-up of MGM contracted musicians whose flair across the entire range of orchestral instruments delivers one of the most breath-taking soundtracks ever recorded. Herrmann described it as, "a kaleidoscopic orchestral fandango designed to kick-off the exciting rout which follows. Premiered in Chicago on July 1st 1959, this release puts you dead centre in the best seats in the house to recapture the debut of that musical moment from 57 years ago.

Cult Cargo: Salsa Boricula De Chicago

Far from the twin epicenters of New York and Miami, Carlos Ruiz and his Ebirac label were both feeling and generating the aftershocks of the mid-'70s salsa boom. Holed up in their own bustling Puerto Rican community center on Chicago's west side, these third coast salseros plied their trade outside the hot lights, cutting their teeth in city parks, VFW halls, and Holiday Inn rec rooms. Nearly 50 records survive in the wake of orquestas La Justicia, La Solucion, and Tipica Leal '79, the most impassioned, singular moments of which are compiled here.

    Chicago 17

Mastered From Original Chicago Records Master Tapes

Mastered by Friday Music's Joe Reagoso With Chicago's Lee Loughnane

Ballads were a big part of 17 -- in fact, these hits and album cuts like Remember the Feeling are among the first power ballads, ballads that were given arena rock flourishes and dramatic arrangements but never took the focus off the melody, so housewives and preteens alike could sing along with them. Power ballads later became the province of hair metal bands like Bon Jovi and Poison, but Foster's work with Chicago on 17 really helped set the stage for them, since he not only gave the ballads sweeping rock arrangements, but the harder, punchier tunes here play like ballads.

Even when the band turns up the intensity here -- Stay the Night has a spare, rather ominous beat that suggests they were trying for album-oriented rock; Along Comes a Woman has a stiff drum loop and a hiccupping synth bass that suggests dance-pop -- the music is still slick, shiny, and soft, music that can appeal to the widest possible audience. 17 did indeed find the widest possible audience, as it ruled radio into late 1985, by which time there were plenty of imitators of Foster's style. There may have been plenty of imitators -- soon, solo Cetera was one of them, making music that was indistinguishable from this -- but nobody bettered Foster, and Chicago 17 is his pièce de rÉsistance, a record that sounded so good it didn't quite matter that some of the material didn't stick as songs; as a production, it was the pinnacle of his craft and one of the best adult contemporary records of the '80s, perhaps the best of them all.

Certainly, it's hard to think of another adult contemporary album quite as influential within its style as this -- not only did it color the records that followed, but it's hard not to think of Chicago 17 as the place where soft rock moved away from the warm, lush sounds that defined the style in the late '70s and early '80s and moved toward the crisp, meticulous, synthesized sound of adult contemporary pop.

Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso And Lee Loughnane From Chicago!

Chicago VIII was one of Rock Hall Of Famers' Chicago's biggest selling albums in a long line of multi-platinum smash albums which began in 1969. Featuring the original award winning line-up of Robert Lamm (lead vocals/keyboards), Peter Cetera (lead vocals/bass), Terry Kath (lead vocals/lead guitar), the legendary horns of James Pankow (trombone), Lee Loughnane (trumpet), Walter Parazaider (saxophone/woodwinds), Danny Seraphine (drums), plus Laudir de Oliveira (percussion), Chicago VII is undoubtedly one of their best selling albums of the seventies and also one of the most revered offerings in their huge catalog.

Buoyed by the success of huge hit singles like Old Days and Brand New Love Affair, Chicago filled this recording session up with so many great songs, it could be its own greatest hits collection. Further smashes like the powerful Anyway You Want and the stellar late Terry Kath's Till We Meet Again, all truly make this fine album even more of a treasure trove of classic rock enjoyment.

Chicago is an American rock band formed in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois. The rock and roll band with horns began as a politically charged, sometimes experimental, rock band and later moved to a predominantly softer sound, generating several hit ballads. The group had a steady stream of hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Second only to The Beach Boys in Billboard singles and albums chart success among American bands, Chicago is one of the longest-running and most successful rock groups in history.

According to Billboard, Chicago was the leading US singles charting group during the 1970s. They have sold over 38 million units in the US, with 22 gold, 18 platinum, and 8 multi-platinum albums.Over the course of their career they have had five number-one albums and 21 top-ten singles.

    Live 1966

Besides releasing two classic longplayers and many more singles (including the smash, "Gloria"), touring/behaving badly all across America and appearing on TV shows like 'Upbeat' and 'Where The Action Is', the Shadows of Knight also ruled at suburban Chicago's hands-down hippest teen club, The Cellar. Over the decades, their Cellar performances have become the stuff of legend.

Miraculously, two reels of tape of the Shadows of Knight live on stage at the Cellar (in 1966!) were eventually uncovered by Sundazed. As early as their 'Gloria' album debut in spring '66, the Shadows of Knight had separated themselves from the garage band pack with a heavily Chicago Blues-based, wildly rocking repertoire. Their trademark sound is on full display in this attitude-drenched, anarchic live recording from late in that exalted year.

For this expanded edition, the original sets and correct song sequence have been faithfully restored. And to top that, additional and until now completely unheard bonus material is rescued from those old reels. Specifically, added to an already scorching set are previously-unheard takes of "Peepin' and Hidin'" (sung by blues legend Joe Kelley), "Willie Jean" (with a vocal from drummer Tom Schiffour) and "Any Way That You Want Me". Equally important, the packaging now equals the musical contents thanks to an all-new, eye grabbing sleeve highlighted by John Hora's amazing original photography from '66.

Unlike their comparatively harnessed studio recordings, the Shadows of Knight are presented here raw 'n' alive, sloppy bordering on brilliant and with all the subtlety of a bulldozer. Would you want 'em any other way?

Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso And Lee Loughnane From Chicago!

Chicago 16 was an amazing comeback story for Chicago and one of the biggest selling albums in a long line of multi-platinum smashes. After the tragic loss of Terry Kath in 1978, and a major label change to Warner Bros/Full Moon, plus the addition of Bill Champlin joining forces, they were back on the top of the charts with the amazing ballad Hard To Say I'm Sorry.

Featuring the award winning line-up of Robert Lamm (lead vocals/keyboards), Peter Cetera (lead vocals/bass), Bill Champlin (lead vocals/guitars-keys), the legendary horns of James Pankow (trombone), Lee Loughnane (trumpet), Walter Parazaider (saxophone/woodwinds), plus Danny Seraphine (drums), Chicago 16 is undoubtedly one of the biggest selling albums of the eighties and also one of the most revered offerings in their huge catalog.

Buoyed by the success of more huge hits like Love Me Tomorrow, What Can I Say, Rescue You, and Getaway, Chicago filled this recording session up with so many great songs, it truly became one of the most important albums in their five decade career.

There's an old saying that a great jazz musician never plays a song the same way once. That could certainly be said of Eric Alexander. One of the busiest players in jazz yet his playing is as imaginative as ever, with the ideas pouring out of his horn. His harmonic inventiveness is exceptional and he'll run the changes at such length at times that you wonder if he'll resolve everything in time and end up back on the beat - but he always does. He has a big, full, sound, and a ferocious technique, with access to the full range of his instrument, all under super-human control. Both the Bird and the Sonny Rollins legacies have been thoroughly internalized but here Eric explores the repertoire of another school of tenor playing - the Chicagoans. With long-time collaborators Harold Mabern, John Webber and Joe Farnsworth Eric gives the nod to some Windy City players who helped shape the sound of jazz for decades Eddie Harris, Von Freeman and others.
