Paris ConcertCircle was a band on fire with creativity. Corea and Holland had just left Miles Davis's band, keen to explore all parameters of new music in an improvised context. Braxton, equally inspired by Stockhausen and Coltrane, brought in new directions from the AACM. Altschul's resumÉ included extensive work with Paul Bley. Together they were, for a while, matchless. The CircleIt's an interesting question to ask: Is that a fair dose of motivation or is that a chip on your shoulder? Jon Bon Jovi posed that question to himself, and it's worth pondering. You might think that a man whose band has sold more than 120 million records and played before tens of millions of fans in the course of an illustrious 26-year career would be content to rest on his considerable laurels, at least for a while.
You might think that, but you'd be wrong, and the new Bon Jovi album, The Circle, provides irrefutable proof. As its title suggests, The Circle marks a powerful reassertion of Bon Jovi's commitment to the hard-hitting, uplifting rock & roll that has been the band's indelible signature since it began. The band share an abiding bond that informs and defines their music. It is a circle that remains unbroken.
The album title, Bon Jovi explains, has several meanings. Some may say that with this album we have come full circle. Others may see The Circle as never ending. I see it as very hard to get in to and even harder to get out of, the singer says with a laugh. Having had 5 studio records in this decade, there are songs on each record that represent the world around us. And while they don't always like what they see, they try hard not to see the cup as half empty. From the new single We Weren't Born To Follow to the powerful When We Were Beautiful, the songs are as uplifting and anthemic as anything Bon Jovi and Sambora have ever written.
Another reason for the anthemic sound of THE CIRCLE is the re-emergence of Richie Sambora. This is meant to be a stadium, turn-the-guitars-back-up record, and that's a testament to having Richie at my side, Jon says. I can't tell you how much that's meant. With me and Richie, one and one makes three.
That flame burns at the heart of The Circle. When We Were Beautiful shares its title with the superb Bon Jovi documentary by filmmaker Phil Griffin. Like the film, the song is atmospheric and haunting. It opens with a sense of crisis: The world is cracked/The sky is torn. Jon Bon Jovi hears the song as a true departure for the band. That's a unique song, he says, We've written hits, but this is something more, this is something different. I didn't want to sugarcoat things. Those lyrics are factual. As a country and as people, we hit a wall. But the idea is to try to get back to `when we were beautiful.'
The new studio album, The Circle, was produced by John Shanks, who also worked with the band on the two preceding Bon Jovi albums, Lost Highway (2007) and Have a Nice Day (2005). The album has an underlying positive theme that is apparent throughout the songs. Whether it's questioning your vitality in Fast Cars, or asking what the future holds in Work for the Working Man, the songs are about the prospect of people having to find new directions in their lives. In these trying times every word relays the truth.
So The Circle, then, like all of Bon Jovi's best music, stares down the troubles that afflict our lives, and offers a bracing vision for overcoming those obstacles. It's stirring, and it's an emotion that, strong as the album is, will find its most convincing expression on the concert stage. And this is why Bon Jovi have managed to play over 2600 concerts to over 34 million fans in over 50 countries. I can't believe I'm even saying this, but I can't wait to go on the road again, Jon Bon Jovi exclaims.1. We Weren't Born to Follow

Full CircleLegacy Recordings will release FULL CIRCLE, the first new studio album in over ten years from American music icon Loretta Lynn. Produced by Patsy Lynn Russell and John Carter Cash, and recorded at the Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee, FULL CIRCLE takes listeners on a journey through Loretta's musical story, from the Appalachian folk songs and gospel music she learned as a child, to new interpretations of her classic hits and country standards, to songs newly-written for the project.
Drawing inspiration from personal memories and deep connections to American music, Lynn's 13 new recordings capture the essence of these songs in intimate new performances. FULL CIRCLE is Loretta's first album of new recordings since Van Lear Rose, her 2004 collaboration with Jack White, which took home a pair of Grammys including Best Country Album of the Year. It is also volume one of the Cash Cabin Recordings, a series of new album projects imagined and created at the Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Highlights from FULL CIRCLE include "Lay Me Down," a duet with Willie Nelson; "Everything It Takes," featuring guest vocals from Elvis Costello; "Whispering Sea," a new version of the first song Loretta ever wrote; and soulful new renditions of some of Lynn's classic tunes, including rousing renditions of "Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven" and "Fist City." The album also includes traditional Appalachian songs from Loretta's childhood such as "Black Jack David" and "I Never Will Marry." At 83 years old, Lynn's voice sounds as powerful as ever, and this new material only adds to her legend as a performer.
Lynn struggled to balance family and her music career and is still going strong over 50 years later. Loretta Lynn has long been established as the undisputed Queen of Country Music, with more than 50 years of recording and touring to her name. A self-taught guitarist and songwriter, Lynn was one of the most distinctive performers in Nashville in the 1960s and 1970s. She shook up Nashville by writing her own songs, many of which tackled boundary-pushing topics drawn from her own life experiences as a wife and mother. "Coal Miner's Daughter," "Fist City" and "Don't Come Home A' Drinkin' (With Lovin' on Your Mind)" are just three of 16 country No. 1 singles.
Lynn is also one of the most awarded musicians of all time. She has been inducted into more music Halls of Fame than any female recording artist, including The Country Music Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was the first woman to be named the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year in 1972. Lynn received Kennedy Center Honors in 2003 and a Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013. She has won four Grammy Awards (including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010) and sold more than 45 million records worldwide.1. Whispering Sea Introduction

Full Circle Nightmare
Ever since his debut album Dolls of Highland was
released on Sub Pop in 2016, Kyle Craft has been
a critic's dream. Based in Portland, he serves up
all the observational, storytelling talent with none
of the attitude that so often comes with male
singer-songwriter territory. "I've found my place,"
he says. "I'm not one of those people that
approaches music for anyone other than myself.
My favorite part about music is when it's just me
and a notebook." Speaking of, his second
forthcoming album Full Circle Nightmare is
entirely autobiographical. Sonically, thematically,
lyrically, it's a huge leap forward from his 2016
The title Full Circle Nightmare refers to a moment
where Craft saw his life for what it is and told
himself to be satisfied. "But that's nightmarish to
me," he laughs. He described his debut record as:
"like walking down this long hall of bizarre
characters and surreal experiences, moving
through the spider web of love and loss." This
album is when you get to the end of that hallway,
turn around and see all the stuff you've been
through, then walk through the door, close it and
start a new chapter in an even crazier hallway. A
straight-up rollicking rock'n'roll album, it traverses
all the different nuances of the genre; from the
bluegrass twang of 'Exile Rag,' to the gothic style
of 'Gold Calf Moan,' it's a timeless piece that could
exist in any of the past five decades.
In terms of contemporary peers, Craft likes to stay
in his own lane. He's an old soul who sticks to his
tried and tested influences. Social media is not
his game - it's just not interesting to him. He's not
fussed about preaching his politics or discussing
the status quo either. "I don't really like writing a
time piece. I don't wanna get trapped in the
'Donald Trump era of Kyle Craft,' you know? I'm a
very off-the-grid sort of person. As much as I am
traveling across this giant place sometimes I just
feel so outside of it. Also, I'm not necessarily a
stand-up citizen so it's hard for me to say: here's
Kyle Craft's America, ladies and gentlemen."
The ironic thing is that Full Circle Nightmare
sounds exactly like Kyle Craft's America. That is
what he's built for us: the story of one man's trials
and tribulations to find his passion and voice for
art and creativity in this vast opportunistic
country. Where did he find it? Among the historic
riches of America's most honest sounds.1. Fever Dream Girl

Circle Snare (Awaiting Repress)Consider "Circle Snare" a hard-wrought souvenir. Composed and realized in the midst of a comprehensive Scandinavian/European tour in 2008, John Wiese found himself tangled deep in dialogue with his instruments and ideas. Wiese increasingly scrutinized his native tongue and vocabulary, seeking new forms of grammar and cadence, as only extensive dives in un-familiar waters can inspire. In The Winner's Circle (Pure Pleasure)
Rare stuff from John Coltrane! The album features 'Trane' playing tenor on only 4 of the album's 8 tracks - making it kind of surprising that they used his name in the title - but the album is a lesser-known batch of large group recordings that offer an interesting early chapter in his career! The main force behind the album is arranger Harry Tubbs - possibly not a name that's as sexy as John Coltrane, hence the billing - but a worthy leader for the date, given the quality of the music.
Many of the other players here are small combo heroes who can also shine brightly in bigger groups - such as Donald Byrd and Art Farmer on trumpets, Kenny Burrell on guitar, Al Cohn on baritone sax, Eddie Costa on piano and vibes, and Oscar Pettiford on bass - plus Rolf Kuhn, making an early American appearance on clarinet. Coltrane gets in some nice, but short moments on the date - but the bigger charm is the full ensemble work - on titles that include She Didn't Say Yes, Turtle Walk, At Home With The Blues, Seabreeze, and Love & The Weather.

About Pure Pleasure
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. Lazy Afternoon

CirclesDespite the impressive journey
Ewert And The Two Dragons have already
been on, there's always somewhere new to
go. While the four-piece band started
playing covers in their native Estonia and
have since become a worldwide draw thanks
to smart, quirky pop songs and a slew of
major awards, in order to make their newest
album, Circles, the group went somewhere they'd never been before.
"It was definitely a special process for us," frontman Ewert Sundja explains. "Our previous two records were
quickly recorded in a small Estonian town without any fancy equipment. This time we spent over a month in a
studio in the U.S.-and that was a big thing."
Logging time at Bear Creek Studio wasn't the only new experience for the group-Sundjan, guitarist Erki PÄrnoja,
drummer Kristjan Kallas and bassist Ivo Etti-who in 2013 won the European Border Breakers Award. For the first
time, the band not only recorded in a studio but wrote their tracks there as well.
The band-who've been playing together since 2008-found themselves embracing new sounds and new ways of
thinking about music.
"This new album is di fferent than the albums before,
while we were recording it seemed like everyone
was having the same kind of questions and
thinking about the same things and this
became a concept for the album,"
Sundja says. "Even though we're
barely in our thirties, the aging
process is the main theme of this album. We all started
understanding more about life in general, hence the
album title Circles. Everything is turning and we're
suddenly back in the same place we've been before,
wondering about love and

and wrong.1. Million Miles

CirclesIn the years since [Soul Coughing's] 1999 breakup, [Mike Doughty] has re-emerged as a top-notch singer-songwriter, seemingly eager to shed the ghosts of his past. So ultimately, it was a nice surprise when, earlier this year, he announced he was going to do an album of re-imagined versions of tracks he originally recorded with Soul Coughing. If you've listened to any one of the band's albums, you probably can understand why there has been a little cult following built behind their work.
On "Circles Super Bon Bon " Doughty reclaims the songs and, most likely, delivers them in ways he had originally imagined. In interviews, he has discussed how he would have to fight for songs to sound a certain way. Sometimes, he would have to concede. So one could look at this album as a revisionist exercise. How his former bandmates feel about this is unknown. But, the big surprise is he actually improves and/or nicely compliments the vast majority of these cuts.
Much of the record is given more of a pop sheen than one probably would expect. The effect works. Sure, some of the songs were hits in their original form (like "Super Bon Bon" and "Circles," for instance) but the collection's revelatory moments generally stem from the songs that didn't get airplay.
"The Idiot Kings," in its original form, had a brooding, heavy, driving quality. The version here is infinitely brighter, thanks to a choice key change and a well-used drum loop.
"True Dreams of Wichita" was originally an upright-bass driven lament. In its new form, it loses no intensity while it ends up sounding like a more complete cousin to Primitive Radio Gods' 1996 hit, "Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth With Money In My Hand."
In fact, the album on the whole seems celebratory. Doughty is aiming these songs at an audience willing to dance. "How Many Cans" and "Sleepless," which were originally both slow-building, almost meditative dirges packed with an underlying sense of menace, now bounce around with newly reinforced backbones.
This album demonstrates that Soul Coughing really should've had more hits and Doughty deserves respect as one of his generation's keenest songwriters. While Doughty, himself, was probably exorcising personal demons by re-imagining these songs, in the process, he has given them a second life.
Any fan of Soul Coughing should find this album, at the very least, to be a fascinating companion-piece to the original takes. In this surprising move, Doughty does his legacy proud. While some favorites may have not made the track list, this album, nevertheless, is a reminder of these songs' lasting endurance. This is Doughty's well-earned victory lap.

ReflectionChalk Circle existed in the Washington, DC metro area punk/hardcore scene between 1981 and 1983. They were the first all-female rock/punk band to ever record and perform in DC, and in January of 2011 their recorded output will finally be available in one place: on the Re flection LP, released by both Mississippi Records and Post Present Medium. The 12 songs on this release are from compilations on Outside Records and WGNS, live shows and unreleased recordings. It also comes with a 16-page booklet compiled by guitarist/vocalist Sharon Cheslow that tells the Chalk Circle story in its entirety for the first time. The booklet features photographs, press clippings and extensive liner notes by renowned musician and producer Don Fleming, whose band Velvet Monkeys headlined Chalk Circle's first shows.
Chalk Circle, although personally part of the birth of hardcore as friends and fans of the Discord scene, musically never fit into the stringent rules of that scene. They sound like they were from a time where experimentation was rewarded, where new ideas were examined and transformed by people who were curious and excited to live in the moment. The ideas were then transformed again, when the moment changed.
In an interview by Alex Guiness in 1982, in response to a question about how to label Chalk Circle, vocalist/guitarist Mary Green answered, We'll create our own tag. For those who want a tag, well, think about the raw experimental U.S. punk of Flipper, Bush Tetras, and The Minutemen, or the innovative post-punk of Delta 5, The Swell Maps, Liliput, and The Slits. Think about the youthful energy of DC Hardcore and the enthusiasm of teenagers making music that comes from the heart and not from copying ri ffs from rock records. Think about the straight-laced nature of the nation's capital and the joy of creating your own culture. Think about the promise of punk to teenage women. Chalk Circle expresses all this through music that is spirited, unique, creative, powerful and fun.1. Re fection

The Takeoff (Discontinued)The latest southern rap duo Playaz Circle made their debut in 2007 with Supply & Demand. Signed to the groundbreaking Disturbing tha Peace label, founded by multi-platinum and Grammy winning artist and actor Ludacris and Disturbing Tha Peace CEO Chaka Zulu, these Georgia boys continue to make noise with their current hit Stupid featuring OJ Da Juiceman from their sophomore album Flight 360: The Takeoff. We come from the era when hip-hop really had substance, Tity Boy says. We were students of artists like NWA, Too Short and Big Daddy Kane. We knew all of that music. Growing-up in the College Park section of Atlanta at a time when hometown groups like Goodie Mob and Outkast were pioneering a southern hip-hop sensibility, the Playaz Circle rap duo Tity Boy and Dolla were boyhood friends before either had ever busted a rhyme. Playaz Circle proves that there is little competition when it comes to being the hottest crew from the south. On our songs, we just strive to make timeless songs that make you feel good, says Tity Boy. There is no argument; Playaz Circle has achieved that goal.1. Turbulence

Machine City EP
Limited Pressing Of 1000 Copies Worldwide W/ Spot Gloss Cover
A rare musical maturity weaving live instrumentation into an electronic sound world- Quietus
Crystallized melodic sparkle and rhythms running from Actress-like flights to low-slung bomp Boomkat
What Circle Traps do may not be dance music, but their subtlety of touch and the adeptness of sound design is sure to win
them fans from that quarter, as well as many others Inverted Audio
Created in an industrial workplace in Leyton, where Canary Wharf punctures the skyline, Circle Traps craft music made
in the image of the modern city. The group consists of Jack Wyllie, Duncan Bellamy and Will Ward and was formed in
East London in 2010 and quickly scored their first release on fellow East Londoner Subeena's Opit Records in early 2011.
Their eponymous debut EP earned serious critical praise from the likes of The Wire, Quietus and Fact Magazine. Their
attention to ambient textures is reminiscent of Actress and Daniel Lopatin, but their unique, multi-layered, crystalline
vision is consistently offset by dance floor impulses that nod to Detroit through the likes of Model 500 and Derrick May.
The Machine City EP is a lush amalgamation of textural, distorted melody and bassier dance floor leanings.1. Portent

Shore ObsessedSoft Circle started as the solo project of Hisham Akira Bharoocha after he left the experimental band Black Dice in 2004. Bharoocha started out making tribal/electronic/ambient soundscapes that forged paths between the spirit world and the human clans of the past and present using looping equipment, electronics, drums, and voice. His recent music is still based on this fascination with repetition, cyclical rhythms, and trance-inducing tones, but has gone further in the direction of heavy beats and more solidified song structures, with Bharoocha now using lyrics as a means to communicate.
Soft Circles new album, Shore Obsessed (Post Present Medium), is its first to feature collaborations from new member and multi-instrumentalist Benjamin Vida (Town and Country, Bird Show, Singer), and includes additional vocals by singer/songwriter Matteah Baim. The album serves as a comment on the current state of our disturbed planet. Deeply frightened by the way the governments of all nations and the wealthy use their power to drain the planet of its resources without taking into account the destruction of the environment or the toll on the global economy, Bharoocha sings about the bottomless pit of greed and the lack of humanitarianism that we as a people must get back in touch with. Shore Obsessed uses more traditional song structures than on past releases, as well as dance-music beats, to entice the audience to move, a positive act, and to think progressively when listening to the lyrics.1.
