Live at Massey Hall 1971 (Awaiting Repress)

In hindsight, Neil Young now admits that Live At Massey Hall should have come out between After the Gold Rush and Harvest. The legendary 1971 concert features a solo Young with just a guitar, a piano and a mic debuting what were mostly new songs at the time. I'm gonna sing mostly new songs tonight, Neil Young tells the rapt Massey Hall audience, I've written so many new ones that I can't think of anything else to do with them other than sing 'em. The sound quality is impeccable and the setting lends a profound intimacy to Young's voice and musicianship, making this an overall remarkable recording and a mystery that it wasn't released sooner. The acclaimed Toronto performance features brilliant takes on some of Young's most enduring classics including; Old Man, Cowgirl In The Sand, Ohio and a suite of A Man Needs A Maid and Heart Of Gold before they were recorded for Harvest. Live At Massey Hall is a newly mined rock gem here on Classic Records' stunning 180g Quiex Super Vinyl Profile!

Nina Simones first album is quite simply one of the finest debuts in the history of recorded music. Backed here only by Jimmy Bond on bass and Albert Heath on drums, this stripped down trio format brings Ninas considerable talents (as a classically trained pianist) to the fore. Her soulful versions of songs like Mood Indigo, My Baby Just Cares For Me and I Loves You, Porgy have all become standards in their own right and Nina the declared idol of many.

    Afro Classic (Speakers Corner)

In the Seventies, fusion was a popular pigeonhole for music somewhere between jazz and pop. At the same time it was also an often used, belittling term employed by critics and representatives of 'pure' jazz, who never wanted to listen to it, let alone include any of the numerous LPs in their collection.

Forty years later, the dust has settled. Flautist Hubert Laws' recordings not only for the Atlantic but also the CTI labels are treasured - especially the present LP, which was produced by the 'Master of Sound' Creed Taylor. Now these crossover numbers from the worlds of classic, jazz, pop and easy listening are available once more. Discover, for example, Al Kooper's composition Fire And Rain (more familiar are the versions from Blood, Sweat & Tears and James Taylor), the famous theme music from the film Love Story, and three classical compositions by J. S. Bach and Mozart. All have been given a facelift and with such super sidemen ranging from Ron Carter to Bob James and a superb Freddie Waits on the drums, they are a real treat.
So cast aside any preconceptions and enjoy this meticulous production and the clear reproduction on vinyl.

    Musicians:

    • Hubert Laws (flute)

    • Don Sebesky (arranger)

    • Fred Alston, Jr. (bassoon)

    • Bob James (electric piano)

    • Gene Bertoncini (guitar)

    • David Friedman (vibraphone)

    • Ron Carter (bass)

    • Airto, Richie 'Pablo' Landrum (percussion)

    • Fred Waits (drums)

Recording: December 1970 at Rudy Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, USA

    Production: Creed Taylor

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Not as spectacular as the previous two titles because the (mostly) AlbÉniz compositions aren't as consistently slam-bang dynamic, though when the music heats up so do the sonic thrills. - Jonathan Valin, The Absolute Sound.com, June 11, 2013

    Meet The Supremes

    Import

The debut album by Diana Ross' Supremes originally came out in late 1962, right after Motown's boss Berry Gordy signed them and changed their name (the group was previously referred to as 'The Primettes') and immediately before Barbara Martin left the band (which cost her being cut from the legendary 3 on the barstools cover, and the loss of any royalties from the album). Mainly a collection of their early singles, Meet The Supremes features pure soul gems like I Want A Guy, Buttered Popcorn, (He's) Seventeen and many more little classics recorded by this quartet of seventeen year-olds who, although still far from the international star status they would soon achieve, helped pave the road to the definition of the classic Motown Sound. A must-have in any soul music collection!

The Decca Sound - The Analogue Years (Box Set)

In the late 1940s, the pioneering Decca recording engineers perfected a new set of microphone techniques that allowed the full range of frequencies to be
fully heard by listeners for the first time, and the term 'full frequency range recording' was launched. It was a major revolution in sound quality, and the
beginnings of high fidelity. Perfected with the birth of stereo in the mid-1950s, Decca's 'Full Frequency Stereophonic Sound' became a worldwide hallmark
of sonic excellence and a golden age of classical recorded music was born. THE ANALOGUE YEARS presents a 50-Album overview across 6 LPs of the celebrated international recordings that emerged from the London-based record label in that pre-digital era.

The Howlin' Wolf/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Series Continues!

His Self Titled "Rockin' Chair" Masterwork Album Is Back!

First Time Official Audiophile Vinyl - Stunning First Time Gatefold Cover With Rare Photos

Mastered From The Authorized Chess Records Mono Tapes By Joe Reagoso

Howlin' Wolf (Chester Burnett) will always be known as one of the founding fathers of modern day blues. His
legendary style of playing guitar, his unique vocal and stage prowess and of course his stellar list of classic Chicago
style blues tunes have all gone on to influence generations upon generations of rock and blues performers worldwide.

With almost six decades in the music business, this Mississippi native began his career cutting early sides for
Sun before landing in Chicago in the early fifties, where he began a long climb to the top of the blues world on the
    Chess label.

In 1962, he released his stellar self-titled masterpiece Howlin' Wolf. Featuring an all-star band with the likes of
the legendary Jimmy Rogers and Buddy Guy on guitar, the masterful Otis Spann on piano, and Willie Dixon on bass,
Howlin' Wolf a/k/a The Rockin' Chair Album would go on to become one of the most revered albums in modern day
    Chicago blues history.

Kicking things off with one of his finest smash hits Shake for Me, The Wolf continues to rock the listener through
a treasure trove of 11 more blues standards which made this one of the most important blues LP's of all time. The
album features classic gems like Spoonful, Back Door Man, Wang Dang Doodle and The Red Rooster. All of these
blues rockers became truly a blueprint for a ton of rock and blues giants for years like Cream, The Doors and The
    Rolling Stones.

Friday Music is no stranger to the music of the legendary Chess Records arsenal of fine recordings. That is why
we are so very proud to announce our first installment in The Howlin' Wolf/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl
Series with his legendary masterpiece Howlin' Wolf.

Mastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso (Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Chuck Berry) for the first time on audiophile vinyl from the Chess monophonic tapes, Howlin' Wolf will truly become one of the most important and historical 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl titles to be released in quite some time.

To further celebrate this first time authorized audiophile vinyl LP, we enhance this limited edition masterwork
with a stunning gatefold cover featuring the original artwork elements as well as rare inside gatefold photos of the
man who helped fuse blues and rock music for millions of music lovers across the globe.

Pressed On 180-Gram Audiophile-Grade LPs At Pallas Group In Germany

Mastered From Original Analog Tapes By Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios

Recorded At Electric Lady Studios In New York City On February 2 & 3, 1978

Flugelhornist Art Farmer and guitarist Jim Hall had a regular group for a time in the mid-'60s but (except for one occasion) had not played together since, until this 1978 LP. This is an unusual effort for CTI in that it is a quintet set without added horns, strings or keyboards. Farmer and Hall are joined by vibraphonist Mike Mainieri, bassist Michael Moore and drummer Steve Gadd for two standards, the title cut and a jazz adaptation of a piece by Ravel. Since Farmer and Hall have long had very complementary styles (both being
lyrical, harmonically advanced and thoughtful in their improvisations), it is little surprise that this set is a complete success.

Now this classic recording gets ORG Music's audiophile treatment with this 180-gram vinyl reissue, mastered from original analog tapes by Bernie Grundman and pressed at Pallas Group in Germany.

Elvis As Recorded At Madison Square Garden

Of all the live concert recordings released during Elvis Presley's lifetime, none carried the historical significance of his long-awaited New York City shows at Madison Square Garden in June of 1972. His first performances in the Big Apple since the '50s, the 'King of Rock 'n' Roll' performed four sold-out shows at the famed venue, the weekend of Friday through Sunday, June 9-11, 1972 and sold in excess of 80,000 tickets in the process.

This 2LP reissue from Sony Legacy is culled from Elvis' legendary performance at the Saturday evening show, originally issued on a single LP by RCA Records on June 18, 1972, just eight days after the concert took place. The album was certified Gold less than two months later.

Birth Of The Cool (Awaiting Repress)

    Capitol Records 75th Anniversary Vinyl

Birth of the Cool is a compilation album by American jazz musician Miles Davis, originally released in 1957 on Capitol Records. It compiles twelve tracks recorded by Davis's nonet for the label over the course of three sessions during 1949 and 1950.

Featuring unusual instrumentation and several notable musicians, the music consisted of innovative arrangements influenced by classical music techniques such as polyphony, and marked a major development in post-bebop jazz. As the title implies, these recordings are considered seminal in the history of cool jazz. Most of them were originally released in the 10-inch 78-rpm format and are all approximately three minutes long.

Electric Music For The Mind And Body (Pure Pleasure) (Awaiting Repress)

Country Joe & The Fish full-length debut is their most joyous and cohesive statement and one of the most important and enduring documents of the psychedelic era, the band's swirl of distorted guitar and organ at its most inventive. In contrast to Jefferson Airplane, who were at their best working within conventional song structures, and the Grateful Dead, who hadn't quite yet figured out how to transpose their music to the recording studio, Country Joe & the Fish delivered a fully formed, uncompromising, and yet utterly accessible - in fact, often delightfully witty - body of psychedelic music the first time out. Ranging in mood from good-timey to downright apocalyptic, it embraced all of the facets of the band's music, which were startling in their diversity: soaring guitar and keyboard excursions (Flying High, Section 43, Bass Strings, The Masked Marauder), the group's folk roots (Sad and Lonely Times), McDonald's personal ode to Grace Slick (Grace), and their in-your-face politics (Superbird). Hardly any band since the Beatles had ever come up with such a perfect and perfectly bold introduction to who and what they were, and the results - given the prodigious talents and wide-ranging orientation of this group - might've scared off most major record labels. Additionally, this is one of the best-performed records of its period, most of it so bracing and exciting that one gets some of the intensity of a live performance. One of Vanguard Records' classic albums, with startlingly vivid stereo separation and a close, intimate sound.

    Musicians:

    • Country Joe McDonald (guitar, harmonica, tambourine, vocal)

    • David Cohen (guitar, organ, vocal)

    • Barry Melton (guitar, vocal)

    • Bruce Barthol (bass, harmonium)

    • Chicken Hirsh (drums)

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

La Folia De La Spagna (Speakers Corner)

First mentioned around 1500 in Portugal, no forms or melodies have come down to us for the Folia. Described by historians as a noisy dance which was performed by masked and disguised figures who leapt about as though they had lost their reason, a tranquil, sarabande-like form asserted itself in Europe in the early 17th century.

GrÉgorio Paniagua, director of the Atrium Musicae de Madrid, demonstrates once again his virtuosity in his treatment of historical material. His arrangements are not confined to medieval and baroque instruments but also employ a whole arsenal of percussion, such as various small drums, triangle, tambourine, castanets and xylophone. As the title of the LP suggests, the ensemble adds spice to the airy variety of timbres with a small touch of madness here and there. Unbelievably, a jazz solo is heard which recalls the Pink Panther Theme, and the Orient is conjured up by two Indian tunes (ragas) in which the sitar chirps passionately to the powerful plop-plop-plop of tabla rhythms.

With its high resolution sound which places a high demand on hi-fi equipment in order to get the best reproduction, this record is both cult and legend.

Hipness Personified: Davis Columbia Records Debut Highlights His Diverse Palette and Famed Quintet

Sketches of Spain, Milestones, Kind of Blue, Four & More, and In a Silent Way Also Available from Mobile Fidelity

Miles Davis first album for Columbia, Round About Midnight, represents both the beginning of a three-plus-decade relationship with the famed label as well as the start of an extended collaboration with then-unknown saxophonist John Coltrane. As one of the eras only complete start-to-finish full-length LPs, the 1957 set stands as a hard-bop benchmarka summation of the styles that came before its creation, an immersion into the periods cutting-edge strains, and a hint of the rivoluse modalism that would follow.

Part of Mobile Fidelitys Miles Davis catalog restoration series, Round About Midnight now resonates with a physical palpability and emotional heft never before experienced. Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, this unsurpassed 180g LP edition traces the individual paths each musician takes in contributing to the whole, whether its pianist Red Garlands left hand spinning actinoid chords or Coltrane infusing a tune with harmony-defying fills that suggest arabesque patterns. Recorded at three separate sessions, the music has never sounded so cohesive, immediate, or involving.

Historically, few jazz records claim the significance boasted by Round About Midnight. The albums creationand the assembly of Davis quintet, which also includes Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jonesstems from the headliners rousing rendition of the title-inspired track, Round Midnight, a Thelonious Monk standard, at the 1955 Newport Jazz Festival. Stunning the audience with an interpretation that witnessed him personalize the composition with a brooding tone made possible via employment of his soon-to-be-trademark Harmon mute, Davis redefined perspective and possibility, taking ownership of the ballad as his own, and further improving upon its reach in the studio. It wasnt the composers only surprise.

'Round About Midnight thrives due to diversity and consistency, a rare combination epitomized by the first-rate selection and astonishing performance of pensive ballads, bebop classics, pop standards, and folk pieces. Witness the counterpoint exchanges during Ah-Leu-Cha and its Dixieland shades. Soak up the progressive drama and swinging tempos on All of You and Bye Bye Blackbird. Delight in the mÉlange of latticed textures and schematic moods throughout the sequence, here presented in gorgeous fidelity, zeroing in on Davis warm, plush, rich, and close-up trumpet timbres and how, by playing his instrument right near the microphone, he infuses the arrangements with the sort of daring intimacy embraced by two lovers.

Tension, suggestiveness, calm, mystery, nostalgia: All here. Gather now, Round About Midnight. Slip on a pair of shades, draw the curtains, slouch into a chair, and light a cigarette. This is Miles and Co. at their best. Hipness personified.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early
fifties, and as a struggling young truck driver, Elvis cut some demos as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys. These initial songs, of which he
had only paid a few dollars to record, would become the catalyst that would kick-start the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide superstar
unlike the world has ever known.

The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly signed the legend to a
long-term deal, and his first RCA single Heartbreak Hotel forever etched "The King Of Rock And Roll" trademark to his name. He would eventually become the most successful solo artist of all time!

From the remainder of the 1960's into the late 1970's, Elvis Presley would release many more hit albums, smash singles and movies
before his untimely passing in 1977. Ever proving that he was indeed on top of his game, RCA Victor awarded their superstar artist and his fans
with the King's fifth greatest hits collection Elvis' Gold Records Volume 5.

Featuring a treasure trove of his most familiar top charting hit singles Elvis' Gold Records Volume 5 went on to achieve gold status and
become one of his most memorable titles in his huge arsenal of masterful rock and roll albums.

Thanks to his finest rock smashes like Burning Love, Moody Blue, In the Ghetto and his landmark Memphis session groover Suspicious
Minds, this collection of Elvis Presley's biggest hits were just what the fans were screaming for, and the entire album was built around the
framework of his rocking trademark sound. The 1984 album also was another blockbuster for The King truly proving once again that his career
was unlike any other in music history.

Elvis' Gold Records Volume 5 also included some of his finest ballads like Kentucky Rain and his monumental NBC TV Comeback Special
smash If I Can Dream. In total, the album showcases ten important Elvis Presley hit recordings which have truly gone on to become definitive
classics by any measure of popular music.

    Classic Zeus

Zeus returns with the unapologetically titled Classic Zeus, resuming its affair with timeless melody, vintage ambience, and instant future classicism. Classic Zeus is the band's most cohesive and heartfelt record to date: a truly collective effort of singular vision: 11 songs of introspective pop and spirited rock and roll, buoyed by Zeus' studio mastery reinvented. This is the story of a band that has walked through fire and come out the other side naked and raw. Take your past and throw it on the fire.

    The Classic

I'm in the best place I've ever been in my life, declares Joan Wasser, and she's just recorded the album that proves it. The Classic, the fourth album of originals by the uniquely charismatic artist known as Joan As Police Woman, builds on the creative impetus and success of its 2011 predecessor The Deep Field, on which Joan strove to create music rooted in an intimate, elemental and uplifting brand of soul combined with her own unique serene, torch-singing temperament, with a more liberated feel than ever before. The result is a perfect reflection of her efforts to address - and solve - personal issues and so reject the singer-songwriter's traditional melancholic disposition for an unashamed lust for life. As graffiti in the artwork of her 2006 debut album Real Life read: Evolve and Be Brave.

The Classic is named after one of its ten tracks. Part is to do with the way we recorded mostly live; the way records used to get made, she explains. But I wrote 'The Classic' itself as a classic girl-group doo wop song, and the lyric refers to classic old songs like Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell 'You're All I Need To Get By', Stevie Wonder's ' Joy Inside My Tears' and Danny & The Juniors' 'Rock'n'Roll Is Here To Stay'. And at the end, I spell out the name of the song, like Aretha Franklin did with 'R-E-S-P-E-C-T'! The song begins 'I am home in your arms' and it's solely joyful, expressing jubilation. Melancholy is still part of my life, but it's no longer leeching energy from my life.
