    Here Today, Tomorrow Next Week

The Icelandic avant-pop pioneers, the Sugarcubes' second record, Here Today, Tomorrow Next Week! was originally released in 1989 and it's rich in eccentric contrast and playful contradiction. Teaming the swooping vocals of lead singer Bjork and the spoken word agit-propisms of trumpeter Einer, is bizarre yet very well matched. Notable tracks include the calypso-tinged Tidal Wave, the barbed and jagged rhythms of Nail and the hyperactive A Day Called Zero.

For all the audiophiles out there One Little Indian is reissuing 38 classic albums using the newest technology in vinyl manufacturing - Half Speed Direct Metal Mastering. The groove is cut directly in copper metal. Transient response is greatly improved. Stampers are plated directly from the DMM Copper Master, eliminating two of the three plating steps required for lacquers. In short, DMM yields better detail resolution and a lower noise ratio. This is especially good for long play albums, or audiophile material. All albums are remastered direct from the original master tapes and pressed on 45RPM heavy weight 200g virgin vinyl audiophile discs. Each release is strictly limited, housed in a plastic wallet and individually numbered. A chance to pick up classic One Little Indian albums in the most lavish vinyl format available.

200-Gram Vinyl Plated And Pressed At Quality Record Pressings

Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio

Lowell Graham Conducts The National Symphonic Winds

Recorded To 2-Track, Half-Inch 30 Inch-Per-Second Tape Via Modified Studer Tape Deck

Selections From The Stage, Screen And Olympic Fanfare

New from Wilson Audiophile Recordings, Center Stage, featuring Lowell Graham conducting the National Symphonic Winds

These recordings were made in a historic concert hall on the campus of Hampton University in Hampton Roads, Va. The history of the hall parallels somewhat New York's Carnegie Hall. The musicians in the National Symphonic Winds come from the premier military bands of the United States as well as the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. The result was a superb mix of seasoned and assured professionals for this single, five-hour recording session.

Lowell Graham, a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado, was also the first to be awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in orchestral conducting from the Catholic University of America. He has led orchestras and bands in performances throughout the world, and he's the current conductor and commander of the United States Air Force Tactical Air Command Band.

Recorded with minimal miking (Sennheiser), directly to 2-track half-inch, 30 ips tape using arguably the finest 2-track analog recorder in the world - the Wilson Ultramaster - a highly-modified Studer tape deck with custom-designed electronics designed by John Curl. To accomplish this difficult, time pressure recording, the recording engineering skills of the renowned Bruce Leek were employed.

The extreme dynamic range of the music remains intact as well as the soundstage and timbre of the ensemble remaining completely natural. There is no added enhancement to the concert hall's natural reverberation. When raising the volume, be careful as these real world dynamics can be harmful to playback equipment if care is not taken.

The musical repertoire was chosen to be user-friendly, vivid, colorful and impactful. Selections from Tony-winning stage classics Barnum, West Side Story and Oklahoma are joined by compositions from John Williams, including Olympic Fanfare composed for the 1984 Olympic Games. Selections from the Walt Disney favorite Mary Poppins include Spoonful of Sugar, Chim Chim Cheree and more. These significant recordings hold a distinctive place in the audio and musical world.

    Buddy Holly (200 Gram Vinyl)

Pioneer Of Rock 'n' Roll In His Solo Album Debut!

200-Gram Vinyl Pressed At Quality Record Pressings

All-Analog Mastering By Kevin Gray At Cohearant Audio

Deluxe Tip-On Gatefold Jacket From Stoughton Printing

Rock 'n' roll legend Buddy Holly produced some of
the most distinctive and influential music of his era.
Three months after the release of The Chirping Crickets
came this self-titled 1958 classic, Buddy's last album
released prior to the plane crash in Iowa that struck
him down in 1959 at age 22.

What has Analogue Productions done to kick this classic
album up a notch? For starters, our version features
stellar remastering by Kevin Gray at Cohearent
Audio. Followed by state-of-the-art plating and pressing
on 200-gram heavyweight vinyl at Quality Record
Pressings, maker of the world's finest-sounding LPs.
    Stoughton Printing provides a sturdy old-style tip-on
gatefold jacket with added photos to round out the
    package.

Born on Sept. 7, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas, Buddy Holly
was well-versed in several music styles and was a
    seasoned performer by age 16.

When Buddy Holly & The Crickets broke through
nationally in 1957, they were marketed by Decca Records
as two different acts whose records were released
on two different Decca subsidiaries - Brunswick
for Crickets records, Coral for Holly records. But
there was no real musical distinction between the two,
except perhaps that the "Crickets" sides had more
    prominent backup vocals.

This reissue marks the debut album credited to Buddy
Holly. It features Holly's Top Ten single "Peggy Sue"
plus several songs that have turned out to be standards:
"I'm Gonna Love You Too," "Listen to Me," "Everyday,"
"Words of Love," and "Rave On."

    Texas Flood (200 Gram Vinyl)

Mastered From The Original Analog Tapes By Ryan K. Smith At Sterling Sound

Cut At 45 Rpm, 200-Gram Pressing By Quality Record Pressings

The new remastering sounds amazing. Better than it ever did. I'm happy and pleasantly surprised.

    -Chris Whipper Layton

The 45 RPM Analogue Productions reissue of Stevie Ray Vaughan's Texas Flood is so good, as are its 45 RPM companions - Couldn't Stand The Weather and Soul To Soul - that they truly represent what Gregg Geller, producer and A&R representative described as the best replication of the master tapes to date.

We've already brought you the 33 1/3 RPM box set Texas Hurricane featuring the greatest Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute ever reissued - six of Vaughan's most classic album titles remastered for ultimate blues and guitar fanatics. We've now taken the extra step and done 45 RPM versions of these three standout LPs.

We've used the original 30 inches-per-second, half-inch analog master tapes for all of these albums. Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound cut the lacquers for the LPs using the ultimate VMS 80 cutting lathe. Gary Salstrom handled the plating and the vinyl was pressed of course at our Quality Record Pressings, maker of the world's finest-sounding LPs.

Stevie Ray Vaughan's 1983 debut album, Texas Flood, was a phenomenal success, climbing into the Top 40 and spending over half a year on the charts, which was practically unheard of for a blues recording. The record plays like a dynamite club show, filled with crowd-pleasing originals and covers, all performed with unbridled enthusiasm. Texas Flood was certified gold on August 13, 1990, and certified platinum on January 22, 1992.

There's not a link in this production chain that wasn't absolute first-rate. The absolute best that money can buy.

Stevie Ray Vaughan's myth making was already complete by the time that his third record in as many years was released in October 1985. But no one could have expected the artistic leaps and additional prowess the guitarist displays on Soul To Soul, a record on which Vaughan added a full-time keyboardist and saxophonist, and dug deep into his native state's musical well for soul, R&B and surf motifs. Vaughan wrote four of Soul to Soul's 10 tracks; two songs were released as singles. The album went to No. 34 on the Billboard 200 chart and the music video for Change It received regular rotation on MTV.

Remastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio From The Original Analog Master Tapes

Plating And 200-Gram Vinyl Pressing By Quality Record Pressings

Old-style Tip-on Gatefold Jacket From Stoughton Printing

One of rock's greatest albums, this is the debut album by the Crickets and the only one featuring Buddy Holly released during his lifetime. The Chirping Crickets contains the group's number one single That'll Be the Day and its Top Ten hit Oh, Boy!. Other Crickets classics include Not Fade Away, Maybe Baby, and I'm Looking for Someone to Love.

These are among the best rock 'n' roll songs of the 1950s or ever, making this one of the most significant album debuts in rock 'n' roll history - ranking with Elvis Presley and Meet the Beatles, writes AllMusic.

What has Analogue Productions done to kick this classic album up a notch? For starters, our version features stellar remastering by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio. Followed by state-of-the-art plating and pressing on 200-gram heavyweight vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, maker of the world's finest-sounding LPs. Stoughton Printing provides a sturdy old-style tip-on jacket to round out the package.

Born Charles Hardin Holley on September 7, 1936, in Lubbock, Texas, Holly was nicknamed Buddy by his mother. She felt that his given name was too big for her little boy. Holly, the altered form of his last name, would later result from a misspelling in his first recording contract. Holly learned to play piano and fiddle at an early age, while his older brothers taught him the basics of guitar.

In early 1956, Holly and his band began recording demos and singles in Nashville under the name Buddy Holly and the Three Tunes, but the group's lineup was later revised and dubbed The Crickets. Holly wrote and recorded his breakthrough hit, That'll Be the Day, with The Crickets in 1957. The song's title and refrain are a reference to a line uttered by John Wayne in the 1956 film The Searchers. Between August 1957 and August 1958, Holly and the Crickets charted seven different Top 40 singles.

Composer and singer John Fogerty, of Creedence Clearwater Revival fame, inducted Buddy Holly into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame at the 1986 Hall of Fame induction ceremony. What Buddy Holly meant to him, Fogerty said, was destiny calling. Fogerty, 12, bought That'll Be The Day and soon began dreaming of forming his own combo, like the group of musicians - The Crickets - he saw on the album cover. And in Liverpool, England, the same thing was going on with four other guys. They named their group The Beatles, because Buddy Holly's group was called The Crickets.

We are, each of us, made up of the people we love and the people we admire, Fogerty, said. We take those reflections, and hopefully, grow.

Holly's talented life was cut short in a plane crash on Feb. 3, 1959, that also claimed the lives of Ritchie Valens and J.P. The Big Bopper Richardson. This album is a tribute to what was, and what might have been a lengthy pioneering musical career.

Couldn't Stand The Weather is the remarkable sophomore album by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. It follows their critically acclaimed debut, Texas Flood. Incorporating the same winning formula of musicianship and songwriting, Couldn't Stand The Weather cemented Vaughan's place as one of music's greatest. It is their first to earn gold certification and their first platinum-seller. It includes breathtaking renditions of Clark's "Cold Shot" and Hendrix's "Voodoo Child." A staple on the Billboard charts, this definitive masterpiece received praise from Entertainment Weekly, Q, Down Beat and many others.

Deluxe Tip-On Gatefold Jacket From Stoughton Printing

Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearant Audio

Stereo Mix Produced By Mark Linett Under The Supervision Of Brian Wilson

The ultimate pressing of The Beach Boys' iconic album from Analogue Productions!
Pet Sounds, the 11th studio album by The Beach Boys, is acclaimed by critics
and musicians alike as one of the most influential works in the history of popular
music. Brian Wilson wrote and composed almost all of the songs - mono
mixes created under Wilson's supervision were how the surf rockin' California
crew rose to fame, and now Analogue Productions brings them to you with THE
definitive Pet Sounds reissue on 200-gram vinyl at 45 RPM pressed at Quality
Record Pressings. You get to choose - either the mono or stereo album version,
    or both!

The reception for our previously-issued 33 1/3 version drew praise from reviewer
Michael Fremer of AnalogPlanet.com who wrote: "The instrumental separation
and front-to-back layering is nothing short of astonishing compared to the pleasing
mush offered up by other editions." Acclaimed mastering engineer Kevin
Gray has been able to extract details heretofore uncaptured from the tape with
Brian Wilson's original mono mix "and present it in a way that is pleasing and
natural to the ear," wrote Lee Dempsey, for Endless Summer Quarterly.

Our stereo version was mixed from an assembled digital multi-track master that
synced the original 4-track master instrumental with the 4 or 8-track vocal overdub
master. The stereo mix was mixed to 15 ips 1/4" analog tape with SR noise reduction.

Even better, the 45 RPM versions of this historical musical masterpiece makes your
cartridge a near-perfect tracker by way of reduction of inner-groove distortion, a
clear sonic advantage. You get two 200-gram LPs in a beautiful tip-on gatefold
    jacket from Stoughton Printing.

Pet Sounds is famous for its use of multiple layers of unorthodox instrumentation as
well as other cutting edge audio techniques for its time. Conventional keyboards
and guitars were combined with exotic touches of orchestrated strings, bicycle
bells, buzzing organs, harpsichords, flutes, Theremin, Hawaiian-sounding string instruments,
Coca-Cola cans, barking dogs, and more. This classic has some of the
group's most stunning melodies - "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "God Only Knows," "Caroline
No," and "Sloop John B" (the last of which wasn't originally intended to go on
the album) are the well-known hits, but equally worthy are "You Still Believe in Me,"
"Don't Talk," "I Know There's an Answer," and "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times."

VH-1 named Pet Sounds as the No. 3 album in the Top 100 Albums in Rock 'n'
Roll History, as judged in a poll of musicians, executives and journalists. It's been
ranked No. 1 in several music magazines' lists of the greatest albums of all time,

Winds Of War & Peace (200 Gram Vinyl)

200-Gram Vinyl Plated And Pressed At Quality Record Pressings

Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio

On Winds of War and Peace, conductor Lowell Graham takes the National Symphonic Winds ensemble through a program of stirring orchestrations and marches. Liberty Fanfare was composed for the centennial celebration of the Statue of Liberty in 1986. The fanfare set the stage for one of the most spectacular celebrations in America's history. Samuel Barber's Commando March composed in 1943, represents Barber's first band work. Written in a quadruple meter, this work utilizes the constant contrast of dotted and triplet rhythms. Roger Nixon's Festival Fanfare March, was recognized for superb composition by the American Bandmasters Association in 1973. It is a work that's technical, bright in color and effervescent in spirit. The album also includes Victory at Sea, El Camino Real, A Santa Cecilla and Symphonic Dance No. 3.

Graham, a native of Greeley, Colorado, has earned recognition as one of America's most talented young conductors. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees. He was also the first person to be awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Orchestral Conducting from the Catholic University of America.

Graham has led orchestras and bands on record and in performance throughout the world. He is the current conductor and commander of the United States Air Force Tactical Air Command Band.

Gerry Mulligan Meets Ben Webster was just one of may meets albums that Gerry Mulligan appeared on during the period when this classic was recorded - Nov. 3 and Dec. 2, 1959, in Los Angeles. Mulligan and Pepper Adams were the baritone saxophonists during the golden age of modern jazz, both masters of the unwieldy and deep-toned instrument.

History was made here, as was a classic record for the ages. Now, hear Gerry Mulligan Meets Ben Webster in all its sonic glory, courtesy of Analogue Productions and Quality Record Pressings! Mastered and cut to lacquer by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound, working from the original analog tapes, this 33 1/3 edition sounds spectacular, pressed on super-silent 200-gram vinyl by Gary Salstrom and his crew at Quality Record Pressings. Nothing but the best packaging is allowed here either - you'll get a handsome heavyweight tip-on jacket from Stoughton Printing.

Mulligan was an innovator of the west coast cool jazz style who flourished playing with all manner of jazz musicians. The tunes he and Webster recorded are smooth, lush and emotional, driven along by a rhythm section that swings with just the right amount of bop. The result is an album that's included among NPR's Basic Jazz Record Library.

Let this silky and supple set make its presence known - order your copy of Gerry Mulligan Meets Ben Webster today, and prepare to be enveloped by the sound.

In 1963, Miles Davis was at a transitional point in his career, without a regular group and wondering what his future musical direction would be. At the time he recorded the music heard on this disc, he was in the process of forming a new band, as can be seen from the personnel: tenor saxophonist George Coleman, Victor Feldman (who turned down the job) and Herbie Hancock on pianos, bassist Ron Carter, and Frank Butler and Tony Williams on drums. Recorded at two separate sessions, this set is highlighted by the classic Seven Steps To Heaven, Joshua and slow passionate versions of Basin Street Blues and Baby Won't You Please Come Home.

Walsh's ability to swing wildly from one end of the rock scale to the other is unparalleled and makes for an album to suit many tastes.

This is the album that proved to be Joe Walsh's commercial breakthrough, largely on the strength of two rock classics, one of the most beloved rock songs of the 1970s, "Rocky Mountain Way" and "Meadows." This isn't your typical '70s classic rock album with bass, drum, guitar and vocals - it is a masterful score covering so many moods from the dark "Wolf" to the bouncy "Happy Ways" to the breezy "Days Gone By." The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get is essential for Joe Walsh fans, a superb album by anyone's standards.

    Champagne Charlie (Pre-Order)

Blending ragtime blues, honky tonk harmonies, vaudevillian echoes and a musical persona entirely his own, Leon Redbone's 1978 release Champagne Charlie is a tour de force from one of the most mercurial, magical and talented artists in modern music.

One of the distinguishing factors on the record is the fine choice of material, which ranges from Jelly Roll Morton to Jimmie Rogers. As usual with Redbone, the fare is lighthearted and tinged with nostalgia, and sweetened by antique arrangements. The band is delightful, filled with jubilant horns, oboes, and trumpets and, of course, Redbone's rich baritone and throwback acoustic guitar shine.

The album, produced by Joel Dorn, is filled with the best that Dixie, Delta blues and ragtime jazz has to offer keeping true to the old style that made these songs so popular to begin with. Leon has a sort of irreverent, off beat approach to these old jazz classics that is just plain fun to listen to. A charming and romantic introspective collection of classic blues and jazz melodies... each performance is an irresistible listen...his style is unmatched.

Beethoven: Emperor; Concerto No. 5 (Speakers Corner)

The Concerto No. 5 in E flat major for Piano and Orchestra, composed in 1809 at the time of Napoleon's siege and occupation of Vienna, was Ludwig van Beethoven's last work in this form. The heroic optimism at the heart of the Concerto finds expression in the majesty of its design and the innovative virtuosity of the solo part. The dialect between piano and orchestra creates an electric atmosphere of brooding depth and sweeping grandeur. Beethoven's choice of key, the E-flat major, was not arbitrary but gave voice rather to the wild pathos in his own soul.

Clifford Curzon's interpretation of the score is intelligent and refined, his execution characterized by introspective discipline.

The exemplary interplay between Curzon and Hans Knappertsbusch evokes the chiaroscuro latent in each of the Emperor's three movements. The Vienna Symphony Orchestra displays its customary brilliance throughout.

This DECCA recording, one of the very earliest in stereo, is convincing both musically and tonally. More than a document, it is a milestone in musical history.

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique - Argenta (Speakers Corner)

Behind the mysterious title Symphonie fantastique is to be found what was undoubtedly one of the most powerful musical compositions of its day. The highly controversial discussions which this autobiographical, extraordinary work provoked are quite understandable when one considers that Beethoven and Schubert had just put down their quills for the last time and that Wagner had only just left his childhood behind him. In commenting upon the daring cyclical structure of the work, one French music critic said, "In Berlioz's Symphony we believe that we have seen the prelude to a revolution in instrumental music".

In spite of being acknowledged and praised as a composer, Berlioz was never given the professorship he coveted at the Paris Conservatoire, and it might appear as if the renowned Conservatoire Orchestra was making its apologies for this in the present excellent recording. The various scenes of the intoxicating programme music are approached with daring; dreadful, macabre ideas are presented in a low, gloomy and dark timbre until finally a heroic attitude comes to the fore, accompanied by thundering drum rolls, when the death sentence is pronounced. Fantastique!

28pt. Gatefold Includes New Archived (Early 1960s Era) Photos Of Johnny Cash

    Box Car Numbered Edition

Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio

''Johnny Cash transcends country music...he represents what American Music is all about!''

Known throughout the world as one of the major figures of post-Hank Williams country music, Johnny Cash constantly sought to expand his musical horizons and avoid being pigeonholed. Cash was at his most engagingly eclectic on Orange Blossom Special, recorded in 1964.

For starters, ''The Man In Black'' covered three tunes by Bob Dylan, then the most talked-about young singer-songwriter of the dawning folk-rock era. (''It Ain't Me Babe,'' ''Don't Think Twice, It's Alright,'' and ''Mama, You've Been On My Mind''), The Nashville musical establishment hardly embraced Dylan's mind-blowing lyrics, but Cash, knowing genius when he heard it, was the first major country star to cover Dylan's work. By the same token, he also rendered two numbers by A.P. Carter of the legendary Carter Family, who, along with Jimmy Rodgers, created the musical template that's still the model for ''traditional'' country, bluegrass, and some forms of folk. And Cash's unmistakable, tough-hewn baritone rendered the classic fiddle tune that is the title track, as well as ''Danny Boy'' (with a spoken word intro), the spiritual ''Amen'' and the traditional story-song ''The Long Black Veil.''. Cash's compositions include ''The Wall,'' one of the prison songs for which he is known, and the protest tune ''All Of God's Children Ain't Free.'' Orange Blossom Special (with liner notes by the artist and never-before seen archive photos) finds Cash backed by the Tennessee Two, his outstanding guitar/bass tandem of Luther Perkins and Marshall Grant and guest appearances by such Nashville aces as Boots Randolph on tenor sax, pianists Floyd Cramer and Bill Pursell, guitarist Norman Blake, and harmonica ace Charlie McCoy. And on Johnny Horton's ''When It's Springtime In Alaska (It's Forty Below),'' Cash is accompanied by the now-familiar female voice of June Carter.

    Prokofiev: Symphony #5 (Discontinued)

It has been said that the Fifth Symphony embodies the highest achievements of Prokofiev the orchestrator, uniting an intoxicating many-colored palette with a clean discipline of orchestral development. Nowhere in recorded form have these orchestral colors been captured with such startling fidelity in large part due to the efforts of Everest as a pioneer in the art of 35MM magnetic tape recording under the supervision of Bert Whyte. These Prokofiev 5th sessions were recorded in 1959 at Walthamstow Town Assemby Hall, London (location of many Wilkinson / Decca recordings) with Sir Malcolm Sargent conducting the London Symphony and directly onto 3 channels of 35MM magnetic tape. The original edited 3 track 35MM master tapes were used for this historic project of remastering for the Classic Everest 35MM LP and HDAD Series. Using a specially modified Ampex 1551, with Len Horowitz running the tape machine, Bernie Grundman does the honors of transferring to lacquer these 45+ year old gems of recorded history. For the first time ever LP lovers can hear what was captured onto those tracks all those years ago in amazing fidelity and with a Presence that is lost in most recordings. Not to be missed!

This recording dates from the beginning of Andre Previn's golden era at the helm of the London Symphony Orchestra and has been newly cut at EMI's Abbey Road Studios from the original stereo EMI Master Tapes. Produced and engineered by the legendary EMI team of Christopher Bishop and Christopher Palmer and pressed on 180g audiophile vinyl.

EMI made the recording in both stereo and quadraphonic, an early attempt at surround sound for the now defunct SQ vinyl format. HiQ has used the superior balance of the stereo master tapes.

If anyone still has a lingering suspicion that a former Hollywood film composer and jazz pianist might compromise on musical standards, let him hear this... with superb recording which allows for inner clarity in a rich texture, with fine discipline and sharp rhythmic pointing (sforzandos meticulously observed), the musical qualities are reinforced... this is a record to satisfy the most discriminating... - Edward Greenfield, Gramophone, July 1973.

Eiji Oue conducts the Minnesota Orchestra performing selections by Aaron Copland.

Aaron Copland, America's best-known and best-loved composer, would have been 100 years old this centennial year. Reference Recordings is pleased to honor his memory with this memorial LP of three of his most renowned and memorable works. Fanfare For the Common Man has become emblematic of state and major sports occasions. Its majestic strains for brass and percussion inevitably raise goosebumps wherever they are heard.

Appalachian Spring is Copland's most beloved dance score, and is indelibly associated with Martha Graham, who gave it birth. It sings of earlier-Americans whose lives were tied to the land and it features the timeless folksong Simple Gifts. The Third Symphony is considered to be Copland's masterpiece, the finest symphony produced by any 20th-century American. Its finale brings back the Fanfare, scored for full symphony orchestra, to bring the program to a spine-tingling climax.
