Mr. Clean: Winfield Parker At Ru-JacFirst Ever Collection Of Parker's Classic Singles
Pressed On Yellow Vinyl
Ru-Jac Records, one of the nation's first African-American owned record labels, was formed in Baltimore in the early 1960s by Rufus Mitchell, who booked East Coast entertainment venues including Carr's Beach, a segregated summer resort near Annapolis. Ru-Jac was active into the 1970s and featured R&B, soul, funk, jazz and even rock acts. The most frequently recorded Ru-Jac artist was Winfield Parker.
Parker cut 17 recordings for Ru-Jac, the 45s of which have fetched top dollar on the collectors market, as people have hungered for this vintage sound. When Omnivore Recordings acquired Ru-Jac in 2015, even more recordings were discovered. The original singles, along with six previously unissued tracks, are finally available as Mr. Clean: Winfield Parker At Ru-Jac. Omnivore Recordings will release the collection March 25, 2016, on CD and digital. The LP will be available June 10, first limited-edition pressing on orange vinyl.
From "My Love" to "I Love You Just The Same" to the collection's title track, "Mr. Clean," this compilation presents Parker at his most soulful, along with alternate takes, demos, backing tracks and songs unheard since they were first laid to tape over five decades ago. With mastering and restoration from Grammy® Award-winner Michael Graves, they sound better than ever.
In 2013, the Global Entertainment Media Association honored Winfield with a Golden Mic Honor, alongside contemporaries like Gamble & Huff, the Three Degrees, Barbara Mason, and others. He is celebrating 58 years in the music business in 2016, and the material on Mr. Clean: Winfield Parker At Ru-Jac showcases the root of that legendary career, paving the way for a new generation of appreciation, re-examination, and soul.
The Winfield Parker release is the first to be realized out of Omnivore's acquisition of Ru-Jac Records and its publishing assets. Omnivore Recordings' Cheryl Pawelski says, "Omnivore is so pleased to have acquired Ru-Jac Records and its accompanying publishing entities, Diddy Bop and Ru-Jac. Authentic East Coast '60s soul is impossible to resist, and we're looking forward to the first release, Winfield Parker's Mr. Clean: Winfield Parker At Ru-Jac with more to follow. By the end of the year we're hoping to have at least one additional artist collection available, as well as a label overview. The Ru-Jac story centers around its founder, Rufus Mitchell, a promoter of live shows in the Baltimore area, including one of the first African American-controlled beaches, Carr's Beach. The 45s that spun out of Ru-Jac offer a tantalizing, never-before told, audio history of a time and place that we can't wait for everyone to hear."1. My Love For You - Little Winfield Parker

True Soul: Deep Sounds From The Left Of Stax (Box Set)Complete Anthology Including All 32 Rare And Unreleased 60s And 70s Soul, Funk, Disco And Party-rap Cuts From The True Soul Vaults
10 Page Full Color Booklet Including Never Before Seen Photos, Extensive Liner Notes And A Candid Interview Between Producer Eothen Egon Alapatt And Lee Anthony
All Tracks Remastered From The Original Master Tapes
60's and 70's Soul, Funk, Disco, Party-Rap and Boogie from Arkansas's Legendary Independent Label the final installment presented as an all inclusive 4xLP Anthology.
Now-Again Records, in association with label-owner Lee Anthony, is proud to present the release of True Soul: Deep Sounds from the Left of Stax, a collection of rare and unreleased funk and soul music from the fabled Arkansas indie. Over twelve years in the making, this anthology presented over the course of two volumes of CD/DVDs and one four-LP box set seeks to establish True Soul's rightful place within America's funk and soul pantheon.
As much as this set is about the adventurous, always-funky and oh-so-rare recordings that True Soul made possible, it is also about Anthony, the man. A true, American up-from-the-bootstraps story, Anthony's is one in which his frontiersman's entrepreneurial spirit and vision remains undeterred as he sets up black-owned businesses in a post-Jim Crow South and succeeds in capturing recordings from the high water mark of America's funk and soul movement.
Anthony's story intertwines with the renowned Sam Philips an early mentor and patron and Memphis's Al Bell and Willie Mitchell with whom Anthony collaborated as he tried to cultivate Little Rock's funk and soul in the shadow of Stax and Hi Records. This anthology will make influence amongst the history of southern funk and soul is transparent, as his story of how he helped turn a stranded road band into the Gap Band.
This comprehensive True Soul Records anthology including a 10-page, booklet chock full of photos, ephemera and extensive liner notes - not only carries the rare distributed funk and soul 45s that led the likes of renowned collectors DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist to Lee Anthony's door in search of Anthony's fabled treasure chest, but also includes previously unreleased boogie, disco and party rap recorded in True Soul's early-80's twilight. You can find this all contained in a one of a kind 4xLP boxset, with each sleeve donning the True Soul logo that Anthony held so dear.1. Thomas East - 'Slipping Around (45 Version)'

Suicide Squeeze Records Presents:Forever Singles (Out Of Stock)
Limited Edition Of 1,000 Copies
Pressed On Custom Light Green Vinyl
Like many of the great independent record labels of the '90s, Suicide Squeeze started
off as a hobby. And like so many other hobby labels, Suicide Squeeze's rst ventures
were 7 singles. But whereas many upstarts plodded through a series of crudely
assembled debut records by short-lived and long-forgotten friends' bands, the Seattle
label hit the ground running with a stream of well-packaged singles by beloved
Northwest artists - 764-Hero, Pedro The Lion, Elliott Smith, and Modest Mouse, to
name a few. Not surprisingly, the quality of these early releases helped catapult the
label into a full-time operation.
Whether a testament to the enduring allure of vinyl or the quality of the artists on the
roster, Suicide Squeeze continues to make 7s. And in this era of renewed interest in
vinyl, the label's limited-run releases sell out quickly. Lucky collectors continue to enjoy
the vinyl, and the dedicated fans always have the option to download the mp3s. But
what's the better plan for making these recordings endure for posterity? To add mp3s
to the ever-expanding annals of the internet, or to create a new slab of wax capturing
the best singles Suicide Squeeze has had to offer in recent years? Not content with
limiting the songs to the former, the Seattle indie label is going for the latter, culling
some of their nest tracks for the compilation album Suicide Squeeze Presents:
The LP captures the rowdy garage rock of The Coathangers and Davilla 666, the
scraggly dirt-ridden guitars of JEFF the Brotherhood and Heavy Cream, the nostalgic
'60s girl-group melodies of Bleached and La Luz, the exuberant power pop of
Audacity, King Tuff, Nobunny, and Meat Market, the hazy noir soundtrack of Dirty
Beaches, the vitriolic basement-show noise-punk of Nu Sensae, the sinister post-punk
of Wax Idols, and the West Texas-bred Twin Reverb rock of The Numerators. Bundled
together onto one record, the collection perfectly captures the spirit of Suicide
Squeeze in the current decade: rambunctious youthful urgency tempered with a hat
tip to rock n' roll's gritty unsung heroes of the past.
In keeping with the limited-edition nature of the 7s, Forever Singles will be released
on 1000 hand-numbered colored vinyl. And while the compilation is a vital
documentation of the Northwest label's continuing commitment to bold and brash new
artists, it's also a solid reminder of rock music's humble beginning on dusty old '45s.1. The Coathangers "Merry Go Round"

Unique "Kay-Dee Casebook" Packaging - All Seven 7-inches Fit Into A Book As Self-contained Pages
KAY-DEE RECORDS, the online store and label owned and operated by Kenny Dope, takes things to the next level with the debut of its "Book Series." Kenny's vision for Kay-Dee's first book was to create a premium set with a mix of well-known and never-before-seen "Wild Style" photos, in addition to liner notes detailing the stories behind the music of one of his favorite films.
The year was 1981 and young, New York City-based filmmaker Charlie Ahearn was working on what would become one of the most important artifacts in the history of hip-hop music and culture: "Wild Style." He was scraping by to fund his efforts, which were far from a surefire money-making enterprise. Hip-hop wasn't even called "hip-hop" at the time, and it was still viewed as a fad, by both nationwide music listeners and a majority of the press.
As Ahearn and his crew continued to film scenes from "Wild Style" (which starred graffiti writers Lee Quinones and Lady Pink, among many other hip-hop and "Downtown" luminaries of the day), they reached an interesting juncture: what music would DJs in the film use in the soon-to-be-legendary live performance scenes?
The director - making a visionary move more than a half-decade before any sampling or music clearance lawsuits would appear - decided that he wanted to control the music to be used in these scenes. They would create their own breakbeats, instead of using known cuts of the day; for instance, The Incredible Bongo Band's "Apache" or James Brown's "Funky Drummer."
While Ahearn headed off to film more scenes, he left these important musical production duties to an up-and-comer who, thanks in part to his crucial role as Phade in the film, would grow to be one of hip-hop's and graffiti's most important ambassadors of the 1980s: Fred "Fab 5 Freddy" Brathwaite.
Over the course of a week's time in the late summer of 1981, the Wild Style Breakbeats sessions were completed and mastered. None of the three principal musicians who played on the Breakbeats were ever in the studio at the same time. And the final number of white-label-only Breakbeats 12-inches was, according to Freddy, only 100, making them some of the rarest "Holy Grail" pieces of vinyl in music history.
The original Breakbeats vinyl was given to the DJs in the film - including GrandWizzard Theodore, Charlie Chase and Kevie Kev Rockwell - who used them in live performance scenes, most of which were completed in the spring of 1982. Interestingly, out of 13 Breakbeats given to DJs, only five were ever used in these performance scenes or on the film's much-revered soundtrack.
For this premium Wild Style Breakbeats set, renowned DJ, producer, and lifelong "Wild Style" fanatic Kenny Dope obtained the original reel-to-reel tapes from director Charlie Ahearn and went about re-EQing and extending the length of each Breakbeat [most were originally about one minute long]. Thanks to these efforts, all 13 Breakbeats are presented here with top-level audio quality that has never been heard before. Additionally, since only bootlegs of the Wild Style Breakbeats have ever existed, this is the first time they have ever been presented on their own, as an official full album release.
This stunning set with unique "Kay-Dee Casebook" packaging - officially licensed from Charlie Ahearn by Kenny Dope and Kay-Dee Records, and packaged by Get On Down - is a hip-hop junkie's dream. It presents a crucial rap artifact with the respect it has always deserved but, until now, has not been given. It is sure to sit on your shelf alongside other trophies from the music and culture that has touched the lives of so many over the past four decades.1. Down By Law
