    The Pink Panther (Speakers Corner)

The film director Blake Edwards brought into existence what is probably the best opening sequence to his comic crime film when he commissioned a young enterprising company to produce an animated Pink Panther cartoon film. The creative team came up with the idea of giving the cold, glittering diamond the guise of a cool, pink panther, which leads a bungling detective on a merry dance to the slinky sound of the Panther theme.

Mancini would not be Mancini if he did not bathe the film location - the skiing resort Cortina d'Ampezzo -in highly varied musical colours and genres. His well-known love for dance music finds itself in the samba (It Had Better Be Tonight), the shuffle (Champagne And Quail), and the cha-cha (Something For Sellers). But also the ballad, sung by a muted trumpet and saxophone (Royal Blue), or the simple combination of keyboard and strings (Piano And Strings) are all woven into the story. One of the most memorable and delightful sounds is that of the accordion, whose melodies evoke an atmosphere that is filled with the Bohème, Paris and the sound of the musette. This music is never gaudy, but subtle, just like a panther padding quietly along. And if your appetite is now whetted for more, there is an extra portion of Mancini to be found in Breakfast At Tiffany's (RCA LSP 2362).

    Musicians:

    • Henry Mancini (arranger, conductor, p) & orchestra

Recording: September 1963 at RCA Victor's Music Center of the World, Hollywood, by Jim Malloy

    Production: Joe Reisman

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    In Colour

Jamie xx will release his debut album In Colour on Young
Turks. The eleven track LP includes previous releases "Girl" and "Sleep
Sound" as well as forthcoming single "Loud Places," which features vocals
    from Romy Madley Croft.

The release of In Colour comes on the back of an incredible six year
creative period for Jamie xx, which has seen him alternate effortlessly between
his role as founding member and producer of The xx, and creator
of more electronic and club orientated music as Jamie xx. A string
of acclaimed productions in recent years including debut solo single "Far
Nearer," remixes for the likes of Adele, Radiohead and Florence & The
Machine, production work for Drake and Alicia Keys plus We're New
Here - Jamie's seminal reworking of Gil Scott-Heron's final studio album -
hinted at what was to come.

With In Colour - a bold, celebratory, emotional record that features collaborations
with The xx band mates Romy Madley Croft ("Seesaw" and
"Loud Places") and Oliver Sim ("Stranger In A Room"), Young Thug and

    The Colour And Shape

Originally released in 1997, The Colour And The Shape is the second album from the Foo Fighters and follow-up to the band's multi-platinum self-titled debut. Few people at the time thought that drummer-turned-frontman Dave Grohl could possibly have a second great album in him. Nonetheless, The Colour And The Shape exceeded all artistic and commercial expectations and established the Foo Fighters as one of the most vital bands of our era. With hits like Everlong, Monkey Wrench and My Hero, the Foo Fighters became a cornerstone of modern rock radio and a perennial MTV favorite.

    Colours

Ashley Eriksson (darling to many for her work with LAKE) has achieved a status few artists ever know: her song Island Song can be hummed by almost any teenager in the United States (a surprising discovery she made while teaching Portland's
Rock Camp for Girls last summer). Used as the closing theme for Cartoon Network's cult sensation Adventure Time, Island Song has over a million views on Youtube and has generated dozens of cover videos, making Ashley Eriksson the equivalent of a household name to the youth of America.

Now Ashley Eriksson has recorded Colours [KLP245], her inspired solo debut on K, and a collection of piano pieces, ballads and songs for her fans around the world. Tucker Martine (producer of LAKE, Decemberists) planted the idea that Ashley should make a solo record after they worked together in 2011, but it wasn't until returning from a trip to Sweden that Ashley was motivated to create Colours, and her vision for a solo piano album quickly evolved to include songs with her beloved '70s style of instrumentation and pop sensibility (most strikingly her cover of Ett Stilla Regn a song by the tragic Swedish pop team Ted and Kenneth GÄrdestad, adapted in the style Me and My Arrow by Harry Nilsson). Because Ashley engineered and recorded the album herself (using the same 8-track she's been recording with since she was a teenager), she was able to capture her collection of songs in a variety of old haunts, including favorite grange halls and churches, her tiny shed in northern Sweden, friends' houses, and in the Whidbey Island studio-trailer where she lived with husband (and LAKE collaborator) Eli Moore.

It's the emotional space Ashley reserved for herself while recording Colours that makes it such a personal and vivid statement. Of writing the beautiful, lead ballad Why Are You So Helpless?" Ashley says "I dreamt this song while I was sleeping in the little shed behind my dad's house in northern Sweden. I was in a record store and a John Lennon song came on I'd never heard before. It was a 70's 'super group' album, like the Band or CSNY or something like that. When I woke up I was anxious
to capture the song. I recorded the demo on my phone and sang with an acoustic guitar I had with me." In a similar way, all the songs on Colours are collected from her dreams, expanded by graceful piano notes and the peaceful echoes of fire-lit
    evenings.

    Until The Colour Runs

Following the success of their critically acclaimed debut
in 2011, Lanterns On The Lake return with a new album,
the sublime Until The Colours Run, which will be released
    October 10th on Bella Union.

The source of the music remains the same, an exquisitely
crafted blend of symphonic rock, folk and electronics but much has changed in the interim. The album was
recorded during a time of financial and personal adversity, and as a result, Until The Colours Run is more soulful
and dynamic than its predecessor. In sound, it's both
harder ('Elodie', the title track) and more luminous
('Green And Gold', 'Picture Show'), and a more emotionally and politically charged experience, as singer/lyricist
Hazel Wilde paints unflinching portraits of what she sees.
It's a haunting, often devastating combination.

"Not only have they made a better record than their
debut, they've made one of the best records of the
young decade." - DROWNED IN SOUND

    Colour My Heart (Pre-Order)

Charlotte OC's new track 'Colour My Heart' is an intoxicating mix of emotional lyrics and heady, thick vocals. The 22 year old, Blackburn born singer has spread her wings over to LA and recorded and produced a supernatural title track and video.

There is a spooky and bewitching sound to the song that is powered along by underlying beats and earthy melodies pulsating throughout. Charlotte drew on an influence that through the darkness there is beauty; an idea that dawned upon her in a nightclub and the video perfectly compliments the track in light of this.

With a definite overtone of mystical beauty, her musical feels spiritual and almost occultist. So when we found out that the singer's initial musical inspiration came in the form of dressing up as a witch when she was younger, we were less than surprised. This look has more or less been carried over to the video and we were almost expecting her to whip out a crystal ball and some tarot cards.

    Colour The Small One

Available For The First Time In The U.S.

Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Sia's third album "Colour The Small One" opens with the sound of her writing - on overture to the soul-baring tracks that follow. What became her breakthrough album, featuring the hit "Breathe Me" is laden with electronically kissed chamber pop and emotionally raw lyrics, that create an atmosphere so intimate, it almost feels wrong to listen in. The seminal album is now available for the first time on vinyl in the U.S..

    Hapshash and the Coloured Coat

Featuring The Human Host And The Heavy Metal Kids

One of the most sought-after of all '60s cult LPs, 1967's Hapshash and the Coloured Coat Featuring the Human Host and the Heavy Metal Kids is the sort of record that could only have emerged during the psychedelic era, and a vibrant manifestation of that period's freewheeling boundary-breaking spirit of adventure.

Hapshash and the Coloured Coat, the English duo of Michael English and Nigel Weymouth, initially achieved notoriety as a graphic design team whose distinctive visual sensibility placed them at the center of London's original psychedelic explosion. The pair's vivid visual imagination spawned numerous album covers, including Cream's Disraeli Gears, and countless posters promoting performances at London's legendary UFO Club by such acts as Pink Floyd and the Incredible String Band. Those visual works brilliantly captured the London scene's buoyant, mind-expanding vibe, and feature some of the psychedelic era's most arresting imagery.

Such was Hapshash & the Coloured Coat's prominence and influence that, in 1967, they were given the opportunity to branch out as a recording act. For the occasion, English and Weymouth teamed with legendary producer/manager/DJ/scenester Guy Stevens, whose lengthy resume encompasses work with the Rolling Stones, Procol Harum, Mott the Hoople and The Clash.

The result was Hapshash & the Coloured Coat Featuring the Human Host and the Heavy Metal Kids. The unlikely collaboration produced a one-of-a-kind sonic experience that exemplifies the spirit of psychedelia while sounding like no other record of its time, mixing primal vocal chants and insistent tribal rhythms with proto-funk guitar and bluesy piano on such memorably titled tracks as H-O-P-P Why?, The New Messiah Coming 1985, Empires of the Sun and A Mind Blown Is a Mind Shown.

Out of print on vinyl for decades and never before reissued domestically, Hapshash & the Coloured Coat featuring the Human Host & the Heavy Metal Kids has been meticulously restored for this LP reissue, using Sundazed's usual exacting standards. The album is pressed on high-quality audiophile vinyl, and features complete original cover art.

The Hurry And The Harm (Awaiting Repress)

City and Colour have announced details of their long-awaited new album, The Hurry And The Harm, which is set to be released on June 4th.

    Good Morning!

Today is album announce day and i finally get to share all the fun stuff.

I am excited to introduce all of you to my upcoming album - The Hurry and The Harm.

The support you all showed, for the first song I shared two weeks ago, of space and time, was overwhelming. Thank you!!! it means the world to me.

I had an amazing time recording The Hurry and The Harm in Nashville this winter. Alex Newport joined me as producer again and I couldn't be prouder of the talented group of guys that joined me. Jack Lawrence played bass (and has since joined me on the road), Matt Chamberlain and James Gadson took turns on drums, Bo Koster worked the keys, Spencer Cullum Jr added pedal steel and both Anthony Lamarchina & Karen Winkelmann contributed to the string arrangement.

I never thought I'd want a picture of myself on the cover of a record, but here we are. I sent Dustin Rabin one of my favorite lyrics on the record and the album artwork was born:
I've always been dark, with light somewhere in the distance

Over the next few weeks more info will continue to follow. For now, I'm very excited to share this with everyone and grateful for all the years we've shared that led to this record.

    Shangri La

Barely a year after his debut, in November 2013 Jake Bugg returns with its bar-raising follow-up, Shangri La. The album shares a title with the Malibu studio where it was made, once the 70s haven of Bob Dylan and The Band, now the creative hib of legendary producer Rick Rubin, the recording Titan whose jawdropping c.v. spans from Def Jam and Johnny Cash to Adele and Kanye West.

Rubin's assembled wrecking crew of Shangri La session regulars includes guitarist Matt Sweeney (Bonnie `Prince' Billy, Neil Diamond, Endless Boogie), bassist Jason Lader (The Mars Volta), and drummers Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello). Yet for all its stellar cast and production kudos, the real star of Shangri La is, unquestionably, Bugg himself.

Asked to compare Shangri La with its predecessor, Bugg concludes: 'My first album felt like a list of songs, whereas this one feels like a whole entity with something to say. Or if my first album was the colour of grey reality, this one's the colour of the sun'. The colour of our planet's nearest star. Or maybe the sound of a new star intensifying their musical colours. Listening to his second album, you dare to wonder where a talent like Jake Bugg could find themselves in ten years' time. His prediction: 'Up front for England'.

SPIN praised how Charlotte "channels the bewitching allure of Stevie Nicks and the big-throated finesse of Alicia Keys." NYLON said, It's only a matter of time before you get hooked on this UK singer and songwriter's gorgeous sound.

    To The Bone

Steven Wilson will release his expansive, brilliant fifth album, To The Bone, via Caroline International. It is the follow-up to 2015's Hand. Cannot. Erase. (one of Rolling Stone's best albums of 2015). A gloriously dynamic modernist pop record as imagined by the UK's biggest underground artist, To The Bone is Steven Wilson's hat-tip to the hugely ambitious progressive pop records of his youth (think Peter Gabriel's So, Talk Talk's Colour of Spring, Tears for Fears Seeds of Love).

Often called 'one of the dening Glam platters', Mott The Hoople's All The Young Dudes (1972) was an inuential record when it came out, and continues to impress listeners to this day. Coproduced by David Bowie, the album contains a balanced selection of well written songs by Ian Hunter and the boys. The band is on a roll, and having Bowie on board to colour in the songs with his distinctive style makes this an essential record for '70s Rock fans all over the globe.

    Haydn / Boccherini: Cello Concertos

This LP comes from the 5xLP boxset that was released in November 2017 for the 30th anniversary of death of Jacqueline du PrÉ. It uses the 24-BIT/96kHz remastering made at Abbey Road in 2011 for Japanese SACD versions. Jacqueline du PrÉ, performing with one of the conductors most closely associated with her career, brings characteristic exuberance, passion and colour to two cello concertos rooted in the 18th-century. In his memoir A Life in Music, Daniel Barenboim wrote: "I have never encountered anyone for whom music was such a natural form of expression as it was for Jacqueline She had a capacity to imagine sound such as I never met in any other musician."

    Stravinsky: Le Sacre du printemps

Igor Markevitch was a celebrated young prodigy composer - Cortot discovered him at 13, Diaghilev commissioned some music from him and he impressed BÉla Bartók. He also received conducting lessons from Hermann Scherchen and became a brilliant and demanding conductor. He had then come to the attention of Walter Legge, who engaged him to conduct the Philharmonia Orchestra. His STEREO version of Sacre du Printemps recorded in 1959 - different from the MONO version done in 1951 with same orchestra - manages to combine tight precision with the vital element of spontaneous surprise and highlights the intensity, the colour and the rhythmic power of the playing. A landmark recording!
