ControversyPrince's Smash 1981 LP Back on Vinyl for First Time in Ages: Provacateur Turns More Sultry and Political, Increases Synthesizers and Sonic Range
Mastered from the Original Tapes: Lacquers Cut by Bernie Grundman at Bernie Grundman Mastering
Pressed at RTI and Features Complete Reproduction of Original Packaging: Comes With Collectable Poster
Continuing on with the pioneering directions he began pursuing on Dirty Mind, Prince again comes up roses on 1981's Controversy, an enterprising record on which he turns more political and furher assimilates keyboards and synthesizers into arrangements. Dirty Mind is also home to the piano ballad and chart smash Do Me, Baby, a sensitive song that's considered by many as his finest vocal effort. Given that we're talking Prince, that's saying something.
As had already become customary, Prince again handles all production, arrangements and composition duties, using Controversy, Annie Christian, and the unsparingly direct Ronnie, Talk to Russia as potent sociopolitical statements during an era which responsibility had lapsed and conservatism set in. Willing to stir it up, Prince injects contagious grooves, melodies, and refrains into arrangements that mix new wave, rock, funk, and pop, all serving to heighten the immediacy of the lyrics. And he knows how to have fun. Saucy, stylized, and sexy, Jack U Off and Let's Work are tailor-made for getting the opposite sex between the sheets.
After more than two decades of being out of print, Controversy is finally back on vinyl--and how. Mastered from the original tapes, with lacquers cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering, and pressed at RTI on 180g vinyl, this is the very best version you'll ever hope to hear. No longer will you have to settle for the slightly compressed original or nearly unlistenable CD versions. Rhino's analog reissue also boasts replicate original packaging and comes with the poster that accompanied the first-generation pressings.

Inflammable MaterialThe debut album from Belfast's finest punk band, originally released on the Rough Trade label in 1979. Inflammable Material features two of the greatest songs recorded on the controversy and violence surrounding Northern Ireland. Suspect Device and Alternative Ulster indict both sides of the conflict, the Royal Ulster Constabulary and the Irish Republican Army, in driving punk rock form. Originally released in 1992, Honey's Dead is the fourth studio album from Scottish brothers Jim and William Reid. The title refers to one of the band's early hits, Just Like Honey and the complete departure from their earlier musical style. Honey's Dead was recorded and mixed in the band's London studio with famed engineers Alan Moulder and Flood. Alternative radio stations picked up Far Gone And Out which remains one of the band's most popular singles to date while the album's first single Reverence attracted some controversy for the lyrics I want to die just like Jesus Christ and I want to die just like JFK. Dark Side Of The SpoonImport
Available On Vinyl For The First Time
Dark Side Of The Spoon is the seventh studio album by Industrial Metal band Ministry, released in 1999. The song Bad Blood was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2000.
There are two theories behind the title (which occurs in the lyrics of the opening track), the first being a simple play on words, referencing Pink Floyd's record The Dark Side Of The Moon. The second is a reference to the blackened or dark side of a spoon when heated to dissolve heroin, as the band suffered from addiction to said substance at the time.
The album's cover, which features a naked fat woman sitting in front of a black board with I will be god written numerous times gained controversy and was banned from Kmart. The woman and the words on the blackboard were later airbrushed out.

The Stench Of Redemption
Emerging from seemingly endless controversy re-energized and re-focused, the legendary Deicide hit back with their most confrontational album in years. 2006's 'The Stench Of Redemption' bristles with the defiance and confidence borne of a new line up (welcoming Jack Owen and Ralph Santola to the band), a new desire and a new common purpose.
Crammed full of anti-christian invective supported by a barrage of blast beats and grimly direct riffing, Deicide plays with the enthusiasm and intensity that puts every young pretender band to shame. The addition of fluid, melodic leads surprised many - but the aggression and violence inherent in each track pleased all those who want only one thing from Deicide - the ultimate Death Metal sound. Is This ItRanked 367/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Is This It is the debut studio album by American indie rock band The Strokes, recorded at Transporterraum in New York City with producer Gordon Raphael.
For the album, The Strokes strived to capture a simple rock sound that was not significantly enhanced in the studio. Building on the work of their 2001 debut EP, The Modern Age, the band members molded compositions largely through live takes during the recording sessions, while songwriter Julian Casablancas continued to detail the lives and relationships of urban youth. Following the completion of Is This It, The Strokes embarked on a promotional world tour before its release. The album's cover photograph courted controversy for being too sexually explicit and was replaced for the U.S. market. The American track listing was also amended in light of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Promoted by the music press for a melodic pop-influenced sound, The Strokes garnered critical acclaim and commercial attention. Is This It was praised for its charisma and rhythm, which often referenced the works of 1970s garage rock bands. The record is considered crucial in the development of other alternative bands and of the post-millennial music industry. It has featured in several publications' lists of the best albums of the 2000s and of all time.1. Is This It

Welcome To The PleasuredomeImport
Frankie Say Relax
Those three words in black letters on white oversized T-shirts persist as a main part of the imagery of the eighties. But even if you take away all the Malcolm McLaren-styled-marketing, Welcome To The Pleasuredome still stands out as one of the seminal records of the decade.
Produced by Trevor Horn (Art of Noise, The Buggles and briefly YES), it should. The sometimes over-the-top songs are interspersed with snippets of a Ronald Reagan impersonator and bombastic orchestral compositions. Put their most famous song 'Relax' in the middle of this and the song that created so much controversy when it was first released becomes a model of restraint. The irresistibly pounding yet simple bass line makes it as much a floor-filler today as it was in 1984.
The Orwellian 'Two Tribes', released at the height of the Cold War, still seems strangely poignant. 'The Power Of Love', the hyper-ballad that topped the British charts for a number of weeks, is still deliciously cheeky.
The re-mastering of this album will make your head spin and is the first that does the Trevor Horn production justice. As this is the first re-issue of the album on vinyl in 25 years, it's a damn good thing Music On Vinyl is releasing it on 180 grams audiophile vinyl!1. Well...

HeadacheRemastered By Steve Albini And Bob Weston At Chicago Mastering
"We liked to think we were ahead of our time. Now that time has caught up with us-well, this isn't such a swell place, and having gotten here first doesn't make it any nicer." - Steve Albini
Headache is a 1987 EP by Chicago post-hardcore band Big Black. The record generated some controversy due to a cover photograph of a shotgun suicide victim whose head was split in half; it only appeared on a very limited edition of the record and was later replaced with a drawing by Savage Pencil.
Original pressings bore a sticker reading Warning! Not as good as Atomizer, so don't get your hopes up, cheese!, not as a gimmick, but honestly to any fans as the band thought that Headache was not as strong as the band's previous release. This also came at a time when major labels were first starting to warn parents that albums contained explicit lyrics, and while all of Big Black's records contained such lyrics, Headache's sticker was an ironic dig at mainstream music.1. United NationsOriginally released in 2008, United Nations' eponymous debut
album was destined for commercial controversy from the
moment it was announced. The anticipation surrounding its
release was at a fever pitch as rumors circulated that the
enigmatic band's all-star lineup included members of Thursday,
Glassjaw, and Converge. When the album finally dropped, its
lawsuit-baiting artwork - essentially the originally cover of The
Beatles' Abbey Road album, with all of the Beatles engulfed in
flames - immediately forced at least one major mall retail chain
(rhymes with Not Tropic) to destroy all of the several thousands
of copies it had ordered. The album's entire pressing was then
recalled, destroyed, and repackaged with artwork presumably
less offensive to Sir Paul and Co. The vinyl has been out of print
ever since, and that original artwork has become more myth
United Nations has been remastered for this special deluxe vinyl
edition, and includes an infinite bonus track. The original
banned artwork has been restored to its litigious glory, now
expanded to include the previously unreleased panels to
complete the original triptych - all printed on a massive 12x36
full-color foldout poster. Not content to merely flirt with fire, we
have housed this infamous, inflammatory artwork inside a
custom embossed, numbered old-style gatefold jacket that is
curiously reminiscent of the original Beatles' White Album
Each album is stamped with a sequential number, in a limited
edition of however many it takes for United Nations to get sued.

Self PortraitOne of the most controversial albums in Bob Dylan's remarkable catalog, the 1970 double-LP Self Portrait continues to exercise considerable fascination amongst Dylan devotees. Released on the heels of the artist's game changing Nashville Skyline, Self Portrait offered a quirky assortment of studio and live tracks, encompassing Dylan originals as well as covers of familiar pop and folk numbers, recorded with an all-star musical cast.
At the time of its original release, the sprawling, unconventional Self Portrait generated an immense amount of discussion and disagreement amonst Dylan admirers. The ongoing controversy surrounding the album has been fueled over the years by Dylan himself. At various times, Dylan has defended Self Portrait as a heartfelt artistic statement, dismissed it as a joke and described it as a concerted effort to escape the pressures of his unwanted status as the voice of a generation. Whatever the artist's actual intentions, Self Portrait retains a unique niche in the hearts of Dylan fans, and is often cited as an early landmark in the birth of alternative country.
Self Portrait's highlights include the Dylan originals Wigwam, later featured in the Wes Anderson film The Royal Tenenbaums; Living the Blues, subsequently covered by artists ranging from Leon Redbone to Antony Hegarty; and The Mighty Quinn, which Manfred Mann had turned into a British Invasion hit in 1968. The latter song is one of a quartet of live tracks drawn from Dylan's legendary performances with The Band at the historic Isle of Wight festival, along with memorable versions of the Dylan standards Like a Rolling Stone, Minstrel Boy and She Belongs to Me. Also featured are Dylan's readings of a variety of outside material, ranging from his iconic interpretation of the rural folk song Copper Kettle to his distinctive takes on such familiar tunes as Paul Simon's The Boxer, Gordon Lightfoot's Early Mornin' Rain and the vintage Every Brothers hits Let It Be Me and Take a Message to Mary.
Sundazed has restored this one-of-a-kind release to its original double-LP format. Mastered from the original analog master tapes, the album is pressed on high-quality, high-definition vinyl, with meticulously reproduced original gatefold cover art.1. All the Tired Horses

Esoteric WarfareEsoteric Warfare is the fifth studio album by the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem.
It has been seven long years since MAYHEM released their fourth and last full-length Ordo ad Chao. Founded as early as in 1984 in Oslo, Norway by the late and legendary frontman Øystein Aarseth aka Euronymous, bassist Jørn Necrobutcher Stubberud, and Kjetil Manheim Haraldsson on drums, the band took its name from the VENOM song Mayhem with Mercy. Continuing and renewing the Black Metal style heralded by the English trio, MAYHEM soon became the instigators of the so called second wave and were at the heart of every controversy surrounding that genre. The suicide of misanthropic frontman Per Yngve Dead Ohlin. The murder of Euronymous by guest bass player Count Grishnakh alias the notorious Varg Vikernes. Church burnings, drugs and prison sentences, MAYHEM were always at the centre of the storm. Yet not even death could stop the Norwegians, who released one musical milestone after the other. The incredible rawness of the Deathcrush EP (1987) was followed by the still iconic and genre defining De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (1994), which featured devilish drummer Jan Axel Hellhammer Blomberg, who had joined in 1988. The vocalist on this album was the Hungarian Attila Csihar of TORMENTOR fame, who returned later in 2004 to take over from his meantime heir, the enigmatic original singer Sven-Erik Maniac Kristiansen. The latter was featured on the Wolf's Lair Abyss EP (1997), which was written mostly by highly talented guitarist Rune Blasphemer Eriksen, who scored a massive success with the highly controversial Grand Declaration Of War (2000). Those were followed by the more classic Chimera (2004) and a masterpiece of utter darkness called Ordo Ad Chao (2007) with Attila singing again, which inspired many bands to follow in its tracks. MAYHEM had always witnessed many line-up changes due to the circumstances described above. Therefore even the loss of Blasphemer, who decided to focus on his other band AVA INFERI in 2008, did not stop the band. Activities mainly revolved around live shows, until the right balance was found again with the recruitment of Morten Teloch Iversen. The guitarist had already made a name for himself with NIDINGR, which is highly regarded amongst black metal enthusiasts yet remained mostly an underground phenomenon. Now his first compositional work with MAYHEM is unleashed and demonstrates how perfectly Teloch has captured the essence and spirit of the Norwegian legend by linking the band back to its roots, while at the same time taking a step forward into the spearhead position of the genre instead of dwelling in nostalgia. The A-side, Psywar comes with a different mastering than the album version. The B-side, From Beyond the Event Horizon is a rare track taken from the much rumoured Budapest Recording Sessions, which the band decided to scratch. VolunteersJefferson Airplane Volunteers on Numbered Limited Edition 180g 45RPM 2LP from Mobile Fidelity
Seminal 1969 Album Steeped in Revolution, Vitality, Protest: The Aural Equivalent of a Demonstration March, Jefferson Airplane's Uncompromising Volunteers Rooted in Belief Music Can Change World
Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Wider, Deeper Grooves on 180g 45RPM 2LP Set Yield Superior Transparency, Rich Nuances, and Engaging Dynamics on Set Ranked #370 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time
Defiant, Assured, Cohesive Songs Filled With Driving Psychedelia, Rustic Country, and Crunchy Acid-Rock: Guest Musicians Include Jerry Garcia, Stephen Stills, and David Crosby
Awash in controversy and loaded with revolutionary protest, Jefferson Airplane's Volunteers stands as the last album made by the group's classic lineup and brings insurgent closure to the peace-and-love era. The potent 1969 record confronts war, politics, greed, and environmental ruin in head-on fashion matched by few peers. Steeped in the belief people and music could transform the world, it steers the band in community-minded and county-rock directions, and features charged playing by guest luminaries such as Jerry Garcia, Stephen Stills, David Crosby, and Nicky Hopkins. Volunteers also benefits from being one of the first 16-track recordings. And now, the historic set can be heard in the fidelity the artists and producers intended.
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180g 45RPM 2LP set of Volunteers teems with soul-affirming energy, dynamics, immediacy, and standout textures. The wider and deeper grooves translate into finer pacing, enhanced information retrieval, and superior transparency. Soundstages stretch far and extend back, with instrumental separation giving all of the musicians their own place in the mix. As a result, subtle albeit important details - Hopkins' rollicking piano, guitarist Norma Kaukonen's biting tones, Garcia's deft pedal-steel work - emerge in three-dimensional fashion amidst a musical canvas that manages to be both edgy and produced, raw and revealing. Jefferson Airplane has never sounded more vital.
Much had changed in America - and within Jefferson Airplane - in just the two short years since the release of the San Francisco collective's breakthrough smash Surrealistic Pillow. The countercultural movement had darkened, government involvement in Vietnam escalated, and regard for human rights fallen. Retreating from the excessive experimentalism that graced its prior two LPs, the Airplane responded to the social circumstances with defiant, assured, and cohesive songs shot through with driving psychedelia, crunchy acid-rock, and rustic country. From start to finish, it's the aural equivalent of a demonstration march.
Having drawn attention for the inclusion of profanities in multiple tunes, the Top 20 LP also ran up against the nonprofit Volunteers of America after the sextet wanted to title the record Volunteers of Amerika in order to express further dissatisfaction with the country. While Grace Slick and Co. gave into the charity's desires to switch the name, there's nothing compromising about Volunteers. Kaukonen's leads cut searing swaths through urgent fare like Eskimo Blue Day and anthemic We Can Be Together, which boldly speaks out against convention and in favor of chaos and anarchy.
Indeed, in organizing a pseudo summit of many of the counterculture's leading musical figures to participate on Volunteers, the Airplane treats the album as an orchestrated stance against the establishment. Stills and Crosby assist in rocking the boat on a turbulent cover of Wooden Ships lined with Slick and Marty Balin's overlapping lead vocals. Hopkins gooses the call-to-arms title track with frisky boogie-woogie lines. Garcia lends The Farm a suitable rustic vibe, and on his final appearance with the Airplane, drummer Spencer Dryden helms the pastoral sing-a-long A Song for All Seasons.
Ranked #370 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, Volunteers remains a cultural and musical touchstone.

First New Laibach Album In 8 Years
"Laibach at their best blur art and confrontation" - Guardian Live Review
Spectre, the new album from Laibach, is their first
studio album since 2006's Volk. This follows their the
original soundtrack for film Iron Sky
(dir. Timo Vuorensola, 2012).
Laibach once again 're-invents' itself with Spectre in
a newly born, yet polished and solid formation. As is
now their custom, Laibach calls into question all the
rigid and cemented interpretations (and prejudices)
about itself, about its music, intentions, philosophy
Spectre sounds like a political manifesto in poetic
form. With these lyrics and songs, Laibach, who has
always given a controversial impression / impression of
controversy, is now very clearly taking a position on the
political spectrum and probably abolishing its own (to
some extent quite comfortable) political 'freedom'

Some GirlsRanked 269/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Stones' Classic Remastered on 180 gram LP
Universal Music Group and The Rolling Stones present the remastered version of their groundbreaking 1978 album, Some Girls, which introduced the band to a whole new generation of fans. Justly considered one of the finest works by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman and Ronnie Wood, Some Girls topped the US charts over three decades ago and remains the best selling album of their storied career.
Some Girls is the Rolling Stones' most direct and diverse collection of material from Mick Jagger's irresistible falsetto on the four-on-the-floor filler Miss You, their eighth U.S. #1, to the country-flavored Far Away Eyes via the Chuck Berry meets punk snarl of Respectable. And let's not forget the sensuous, Beast of Burden, one of Keith Richards' finest tunes, which reached #8 on the U.S. singles chart, the garage rocker Shattered, the albums' third U.S. Top 40 entry, and the soulful swagger of the group's version of The Temptations' Just My Imagination, another timeless offering in their canon of classic Stones Motown covers.
Following the critical praise and commercial success afforded the re-mastered, expanded editions of Exile On Main Street, which matched the chart performance of the epochal 1972 album, and returned the Rolling Stones to their rightful place at the top of the British charts in 2010, the extensive reissue of Some Girls constitutes the next step in the band's ongoing relationship with Universal Music Group.
Some Girls holds a special place in the history of the Rolling Stones and demonstrates why they remain one of the most thrilling and influential bands of all time. The 1978 album features the Keith Richards' classic Before They Make Me Run, a signature song he still performs defiantly to this day. Some Girls documented Mick Jagger's love of 1970's funk reflected in Miss You, the dance track that wrong footed many people, made the club and black charts, and made it okay for other mainstream acts at the time to 'go disco'.
The 1978 album also courted controversy because of Jagger's tongue-in-cheek lyrics on the title track, on Miss You and on Respectable, perceived as a retort to the punk and new wave groups who had borrowed so much attitude and copped so many anti-establishment moves from the Rolling Stones. Ironically, the furor around the elaborate Some Girls package, designed by Peter Corriston and featuring the band members in drag, a nod in the direction of the picture on the 1966 single Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow? and likenesses of Lucille Ball, Farrah Fawcett, Raquel Welch, Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe that hadn't been legally cleared, necessitating a swift withdrawal and rethink.
Some Girls demonstrated the distinctive and definitive riffing from Keith Richards, with its abundance of unstoppable licks and majestic power chords driving the band into its brand new musical direction. This album not only defined him and his playing, but also defined a new era for the Rolling Stones, with Richards since described as a sense of renewal. Some Girls marks the only other time since recording Satisfaction where Richards used an effects pedal to 'elevate' the sound.
The album cemented the position of guitarist Ronnie Wood, who had joined in 1975, and added his trademark slide and pedal steel playing to several of the album's most memorable tracks, including When the Whip Comes Down and Shattered. He also co-wrote the Shattered B-side Everything Is Turning To Gold. Some Girls also marked a move to the Pathe Marconi Studios in Paris for the Glimmer Twins production team of Jagger and Richards. These factors helped what is arguably the group's most focused and dynamic album, driven by the sans pareil rhythm section of drummer Charlie Watts and bassist Bill Wyman.
Some Girls featured fewer guest musicians than any Rolling Stones album since 1971, but the contributions keyboard-player Ian McLagan, Wood's bandmate in The Faces, saxophone-player Mel Collins, and harmonica player Sugar Blue (discovered busking on the Paris metro), made Miss You in particular sound brighter than ever.
Thirty-three years on from its original release, the re-mastered vinyl edition of Some Girls shows exactly why the 1978 album has often been hailed as the equal of Exile On Main Street. The album stands as both a time capsule and a timeless listen and it features the band at their tightest and toughest, at their most vibrant and vital.1. Miss You
