After their first album made the Crash Test Dummies huge in their home country Canada, their second album meant their big break in the USA and Europe, thanks to the self-consciously bizarre lyrics and the deep baritone voice of singer/songwriter Brad Roberts, demonstrated in their worldwide top ten hit MMM MMM MMM MMM.

Other popular singles off the album were Afternoons & Coffeespoons and Swimming In Your Ocean. 'God Shuffled His Feet' was the band's most commercially successfull album reaching Top Album charts in USA (#9), UK (#2) and in different countries in Europe (ironically, after a car accident where Brad Roberts almost lost his arm, Crash Test Dummies made a few other albums but unfortunately limited distribution made these hard to find).

Ritchie Valens was the first Chicano rock 'n' roll star and more or less invented Latino rock with the two-minute classic La Bamba. He was still a teenager when he died, along with Buddy Holly, in a plane crash in 1959. This self titled debut album has been long unavailable on vinyl.

    The Crash And The Draw

Chicago's MINSK reemerge from a six year hiatus with their biggest and finest record yet, 'The Crash And The Draw'. Rooted in the post-metal landscape that brought us bands like Neurosis and Isis, with 'The Crash And The Draw' MINSK step out from the shadows of the giants of their genre to create a psychedelic blend of melodic tribal heaviness. The wait was worth it, as MINSK have delivered one of the year's best and most forward thinking metal records of the year.

    Hardly Criminal

Crash's story unfolds with that particularly Southern swagger and with a tale of a Louisiana boy bred on Waffle House breakfasts and monster truck rallies, local Rodeos and the flicker of family bonfires. There was college for a hot minute, there was a move to the Irish Channel, there was the soaking in of all that is New Orleans, wet heat and Sazeracs, the wailing horns of jazz funerals, the teetering handmade floats of Mardi Gras, crawfish and etouffee and howling at the moon. There was work where he could get it, toiling as a PA on the studio sets, Hollywood coming south for the tax credits. It was on these film productions where crash earned his nickname, something to do with a questionable work ethic and repetitive tardiness (he admits you d have to ask one Ms. Rita Wilson for the real deal details). And yet despite his reputation (or perhaps because of it), he was anointed "assistant" to Johnny Knoxville during The!Dukes!of!Hazzard s run. (One can only imagine ) crash later joined the critically adored local act The Deadly Syndrome as lead singer and frontman, bringing his gris gris into the beautiful belly of the L.A. beast. Since then, crash has been barreling ahead, recording prolifically with The Deadly Syndrome, working with famed producer Daniel Lanios, composing a live stage score, acting in a few national commercials, and finally, after Deadly disbanded in 2013, heading out on the road with his pals, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, as percussionist and angelic vocal accompaniment. And somewhere in that heady mix in that combination of the rolling road, of California eucalyptus sway and dark NOLA mysteries, he discovered his true self - the wildaeyed, slyatongued, strutting, winking and wonderful crash of this here solo debut. Produced and engineered by the multitalented Ed Sharpe lead guitarist, Mark Noseworthy, (and featuring friends from the Zeros, Dawes, The Mystic Valley Band and more ) Hardly Criminal is the culmination of all that is strange and sad, hilarious and harmonious, about crash s own true tale. It is story a moving, funny, weird, and stunningly beautiful. You can hear the South, yes, Neville swing and Dr. John juaju, but you can also hear smooth soul, booty funk, and ragged folk, a mix of sounds taken from his past and pushed into the future, all accompanied by a deadpan storytelling prowess and a voice like a Cajun Prince (as in "The Artist Formerly Known As"). Hardly!Criminal! is the sum of crash s best parts - the sonic celebration of his story so far. So, set down a spell, cool yer bones, cher... and listen

HUNX AND HIS PUNX have returned with Street Punk - a new album filled with the catchiest and most hateful punk songs heard in eons. Street Punk is an unrelenting tour de force, echoing early 80s hardcore, 90s grrl sounds, Darby Crash on helium, and the female answer to Danzig era Misfits. Street Punk is the follow up to 2011's Too Young To Be in Love. Recorded by Facundo Bermudez in a couple of days, all songs feature Hunx and Shannon Shaw of Shannon and the Clams, plus Erin Emslie on drums. Sweet Home Alabama Live At Rockpalast

Lynyrd Skynyrd is the ultimate Southern Rock band. Their signature three guitar attack coupled to superb
songwriting and massive on stage charisma has rightfully earned them a reputation as one of the greatest live
bands of all time. The original band infamously had their career cut short by a disastrous plane crash in 1977 which
took the lives of three members plus two of their road crew and seriously injured several others.

In 1987 the surviving members reformed the band with Johnny Van Zant taking the place of his brother Ronnie. This concert from 1996 captures the band on top form at Rockpalast's Loreley Festival on June 23, 1996.

On September 11, RCA Records will release Dave Matthews Band's Away From The World, which the group recorded with Steve Lillywhite, who produced its first three studio albums - Under The Table And Dreaming, Crash and Before These Crowded Streets.

Dave Matthews Band - comprising Carter Beauford (drums), Stefan Lessard (bass), Dave Matthews (vocals, guitar) and Boyd Tinsley (violin) - has sold a collective 37 million CDs and DVDs combined. With the debut of Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 in 2009, Dave Matthews Band became one of only two groups in chart history to have five consecutive studio albums enter atop the chart. The band was the biggest ticket seller worldwide of the past decade and has sold over 17 million tickets since its inception.

    No Energy

As a robust rock underground got swallowed alive by the
Major Label Industrial Complex, the very autonomous
Unwound-Olympia, Washington's Great Noise Hope-toed the troublesome line between pay check and Check
Engine light. Captured in the gaps of a ruthless touring
schedule, defining fourth and fifth albums The Future
of What and Repetition were issued in the back-to-back
springs of 1995 and '96. Both find the band severing their
post-hardcore roots, for gripping detours into Echoplex,
kraut, D&B, and Mingus, as guided by a sun-worn copy of
    Book Your Own Fuckin' Life.

No Energy collects both of these 1990s masterworks,
beginning with Justin Trosper's home-made haircut
stabs on "New Energy," continuing with Vern Rumsey's
reanimating bass on "Corpse Pose," and closing in a wall
of Sara Lund crash cymbals on "For Your Entertainment."
This 33-song collection is buttressed by singles and
period live tracks, a pile of double-exposed photographs,
and a 10,000 word essay by latter-day Unwound diarist
    David Wilcox.

This fourth album from the New York's Blues Traveler finally brought their harmonica-based blues riffs into the public eye. Indeed, Run-Around spent nearly a year on the Billboard singles chart. Harpman/vocalist John Popper moves easily between uptempo, rock-based tracks like Stand and Crash Burn. The hidden gem here, however, is the love-struck ballad Just Wait. Often categorized with post-Dead jam acts such as Phish, BT isn't immune from performance excesses. But when it comes to recording, they keep it (mostly) concise and always interesting. Beak & Claw (Discontinued)

Comes with a digital download card! Stranger things have happened, but rarely do they make such beautiful music. The three esses that comprise the enigmatically titled s / s / s are as follows: Sufjan Stevens, he of the Fifty States Project and various baroque folk-pop opuses; Serengeti, the wry-witted rapper known for in-depth on-record character studies; and Son Lux, silken-voiced singer, studio wizard and singular beatsmith. The project's roots reach back to 2009's Dark Was the Night compilation, where Stevens and Geti met over a Buck 65 remix of a song written by psych-folkie Castanets. Continuing in the spirit of (unlikely) collaboration, the pair passed beats and raps back and forth, eventually enlisting Son Lux to dream Beak and Claw into fruition.

While this momentous EP comprises a mere four songs, each covers an immense stretch of sonic territory and emotional range. At six minutes, "Museum Day" may be the most adventurous and also the most satisfying, opening with a swath of AutoTuned heartache courtesy of Stevens, cresting with the darkly detailed raps of Geti, and closing in a hail of crashing cymbals, orchestral glitch and haunted coos from Son Lux. "Beyond Any Doubt" exchanges that taut splendor for deeper grooves whose farthest-out moments bring to mind Shabazz Palaces' cracked futurisms, albeit spiked with a falsetto'd pop hook. Fuzzy bass and industrial clang crash into lines about unrealized escapism and unpaid bills. Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond lends "If This Is Real" its Andrews Sister-like chorus, an immaculate contrast to the aural chaos that eventually overtakes the song. Meanwhile, Doseone (Subtle, Themselves) lends a similar buoyancy to "Octomom," an electrospackled, mostly spoken piece that plays like a Laurie Anderson track for the reality television generation (also featuring jaw harp and harmonica by Ohio folk vet Hal Walker). Because of its subject matter, this final song goes a long way to illustrating Beak and Claw's strange magic and, ultimately, why s / s / s works at all. Geti's humor and humanity are matched by playfulness and poignancy every step of the way. In the end, sublime confluence prevails.

    Dock Of The Bay

Ranked 161/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

When Otis Redding recorded (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay in late 1967, the singer knew that the song was a milestone in his creative evolution. But before Redding got the chance to explore his new direction, he was killed, along with most of his backup band the Bar-Kays, in a plane crash while on tour. Released just a few weeks after his death, the song shot to Number One on the Pop and R&B charts, eventually winning Redding a pair of posthumous Grammy awards. The album bearing the song's title was assembled by the singer's frequent collaborator Steve Cropper, who played guitar on nearly all of Otis' Stax sessions as well as co-writing Dock of the Bay and countless other songs with Redding. Drawing mainly from unreleased and little-heard tracks spanning Redding's three-year Stax career, the album demonstrates the depth and breadth of his talent, while hinting at what might have been. This exact reproduction of this original Stax label LP is mastered from the original stereo tapes and pressed on pristine High-Definition vinyl.

    A Sleep & A Forgetting

Islands new album A Sleep & A Forgetting continues the bands penchant for crafting adventuresome and infectious state of the art pop music. But this time band leader Nick Thorburn has infused the songs with a personal introspection that gives the record a new and powerful emotional resonance. The new album was produced by Thorburn and fellow Islands member Evan Gordon in less than two weeks, and the 11 songs were recorded live with hardly a single overdub. Its a stripped down process and beautifully understated sound which only reinforces the confessional content of the lyrics.

This comes together to striking effect on songs like the darkly dramatic Oh Maria, written in the voice of Buddy Hollys anguished young widow and her reoccurring crash site dreams. She would have these dreams about being in the field where his plane went down,Thorburn says. She would be trying desperately to get past all the bystanders to see him one last time. Its such an evocative story it just stuck with me. And its absolutely consistent with the albums themes of heartbreak, death and dreaming. Far from being selfâ€pitying, A Sleep & A Forgetting powerfully transforms personal unrest into affecting and soulful pop music.

The LP version of A Sleep & A Forgetting comes with a cool and unique hidden track, toward the end of side 2 the album comes to false end with a locking groove of ambient loops. Listeners may then lift the stylus and find a hidden bonus track that closes the LP.

With a heavy-handed approach and a sound that crashes like thunder, HIGH ON FIRE has put the power back in power-trio. Less a band than a supersonic exercise in conquest by volume and sheer heaviness, the band has burned the metal rulebook and forged a new archetype.

Together is the 5th album by Canadian-US collective The New Pornographers, featuring Neko Case and Destroyer's Dan Bejar, in addition to bandleader and chief songwriter A.C. Newman. Playing to all the New Pornographers strengths, Together combines the freewheeling, glammy spirit of their debut Mass Romantic with the very personal, emotional songwriting of their most recent material.

Stunning ballads like My Shepherd and Valkyrie In The Roller Disco are among the most beautiful melodies Newman has ever written, and singles The Crash Years and Your Hands (Together) rank among faves like The Slow Descent Into Alcoholism and The Laws Have Changed. Vocalist keyboardist Kathryn Calder's voice has never integrated so well with Case's, and Bejar's three contributions are probably his catchiest and least disjointed. Newman says he's always had a dream of finding the middle ground between Led Zeppelin and The 5th Dimension, which isn't a bad way to describe Together's mix of deceptively complex songwriting with pop hooks and arena-rock power.

Live At Maida Vale BBC (Awaiting Repress)

Taken from their performance on BBC Radio 1's Rock Show in July 2012, just a month before their bus crash in Bath, Baroness have released a limited run of their Maida Vale BBC sessions via Relapse Records on 12" vinyl with gorgeous artwork by the talented John Baizley.

All four tracks are taken from their 2012 release Yellow and Green and are the carefully selected, anthemic songs 'Take My Bones Away', 'March To The Sea', 'Cocanium' and 'The Line Between'. Disappointingly there is only one track selected from the 'Green' side of the album, however, the quality of the 'Yellow' selection more than makes up for this absence.

Baroness sound at their best when unrefined and not held by the constraints of studio production; the vocals are imperfect and the instrumentals are raw as hell, but there is a certain charm to this and it suits the band immensely.

Of course there is the pang of longing that comes from listening to a live album that makes you wish you were there, however, this quickly abated by the reassurance that you didn't miss a huge live show, as this is a radio performance. Sit back, relax and enjoy the energy and the flaws as one.

From the time Coleman Hawkins firmly established the tenor saxophone on the jazz map, it has been one of the most potent forces in the music, its best practitioners able to raise the roof with a jumping blues, soothe the savage beast with a tender love ballad, and do just about anything in between. At the time of this recording (1961), Jimmy Forrest, the St. Louis-born reedman, was a veteran of the Fate Marable, Jay McShann, Andy Kirk, and Duke Ellington bands. Later in his career he starred with Count Basie. Here he leads a quartet of teammates from the combo of Sweets Edison, including the young Austrian pianist Joe Zawinul, through a gamut of the aforementioned moods from Crash Program to the caressing That's All, with a few tips of the cap to Ben Webster along the way. With Joe Zawinul, Tommy Potter and Clarence Johnston.
