    Decade

A fantastic 3-LP collection of Neil's best-from Buffalo Springfield through CSNY to his own enigmatic solo career-featuring Southern Man; Down by the River; Helpless; Ohio; Sugar Mountain; Like a Hurricane; Heart of Gold; After the Gold Rush , and lots more.

One of the most influential artists of all time, Neil Young has set a standard of artistic integrity and iconoclastic creativity. Before starting his multi-platinum solo career, he was a founding member of the folk-rock band Buffalo Springfield and worked with the groups Crazy Horse and Crosby, Stills and Nash. The Canadian singer-songwriter was recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 for his work as a solo artist and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1982. Young's philanthropic work is as renowned as his musical legacy.

His famous Bridge School Benefit Concert has become a yearly tradition since 1986 and continues to boast an incredible line-up of high-profile artists. Each year, Young donates all of the proceeds to the Bay Area's Bridge School, which assists children with severe physical impairments and complex communication needs. He was also one of the original founders of Farm Aid in 1985, and continues to be an active member on the organization's board of directors.

    Psychedelic Pill

    Pressed at Pallas in Germany

Cut at Bernie Grundman's by Chris Bellman

The first album of original music from Neil Young and Crazy Horse in almost a decade, including over 85 minutes of music. Psychedelic Pill pokes down pathways that have been hinted at before in this teaming, but never fully explored. New textures emerge in the music, new landscapes in the lyrics. In many ways, Psychedelic Pill rounds out an array of probing works with prominent autobiographical threads.

Whether as a singer, a songwriter or a guitarist, Neil Young has been one of the most influential and important artists of the rock era. Blending folk, country and rock, the acoustic and the electric, the melancholy and the hopeful, Young has been an icon for the uncompromising and unpredictable since the 1960s.

Really, it's two albums: There's a solo version and a standard version, which was recorded with a 92-piece orchestra and choir. The vinyl contains both solo and standard versions, pressed at QRP.

The album was produced by Young and Niko Bolas under their Volume Dealers moniker. The orchestra was arranged and conducted by Michael Bearden and Chris Walden.

    Skin Deep

Buddy Guy's new album, Skin Deep is his 10th Silvertone/Zomba studio release and it features all original material as well as collaborations with fellow guitar luminaries Eric Clapton, Robert Randolph, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks.

Elaborating on his inspiration for the album title and song Skin Deep, Guy touches upon a powerful series of personal memories and observations on the ways in which were all the same underneath it all. I used to play with this boy, ride horses, down close to where I was born, he says. Then when we were 13, his parents made us stop. They used to say you had black blood or white blood, but wed get a flashlight and hold it up to our skin and wed just see red blood. Thats what I mean by 'Skin Deep.'

In a career spanning more than 45 years, Buddy Guy continues to add to his ever-growing legacy. At the age of 72, he graced the cover of Rolling Stone, as part of the magazines recent '100 Greatest Guitar Songs' issue (his cataclysmic 1961 recording of Stone Crazy made the list) and he also turned in a show-stopping performance in Martin Scorseses Rolling Stones concert film, Shine A Light. Guy has won five Grammy Awards, 23 W.C. Handy 'wards (the most any one blues artist has received), a Congressional Medal of Arts and Billboard Magazine's prestigious The Century Award for 'distinguished artistic achievement. In 2005 Buddy Guy was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by friends Eric Clapton and B.B. King.

    Zuma

Recorded in 1975, Zuma exudes both a sense of focus and a tentative optimism. Barstool Blues, Don't Cry No Tears, and Drive Back are terse, punchy rockers, while Danger Bird and Cortez the Killer are extended guitar workouts in the grand Crazy Horse tradition. And the two acoustic entries--Pardon My Heart and Through My Sails (the latter was recorded with Crosby, Stills & Nash)--are absolutely gorgeous. Rust Never Sleeps

Never one to follow protocol, Neil's 1979 album featured new songs recorded live during his '78 tour with Crazy Horse. The now legendary record (with a title inspired by Devo and a sound invigorated by the punk movement), was originally split into separate acoustic and electric sides, and possibly best exemplifies two very different sides of Young. Live Rust

Mere months passed between the release of Neil Young's mid-career milestone Rust Never Sleeps and this 1979 tour recording, which documents a late-'78 San Francisco performance. Indeed, Live Rust boasts four songs from the album that gave it its name. It's also sequenced in the same spirit as its studio sibling. As with Rust Never Sleeps, Live Rust opens with steady-flowing acoustic numbers before swirling into an electric vortex. What was side 4 off the original two-record version--Like a Hurricane, Hey, Hey, My, My, and Tonight's the Night--is arguably Young and Crazy Horse at their peak as a live unit, with all due respect to 1991's estimable Weld and 1997's desultory Year of the Horse. Few rock bands rank with Young and his stalwart electric trio, and Live Rust presents them in all their raging glory. -Steven Stolder

    Tightropes

Tall Tales And The Silver Lining is a Los Angeles based band led by songwriter Trevor Beld Jimenez. Beld Jimenez grew up on the sounds of '70's AM radio, along with L.A. classics like Jackson Browne, Court and Spark-era Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Crazy Horse and the Byrds. His music incorporates all of that -- classic songwriting, great playing, simple, hook-heavy arrangements and thoughtful production -- but updates the sound for today. It's straightforward, heartfelt rock & roll, ten songs of love and loss, ocean-scented breezes and the hum of the open road beneath your wheels.

    Tonight's The Night

By 1975 Young had written some of the most enduring anthems in rock history. But from the slow, tension-building piano opening of Tonight's the Night, he downshifts into darkness and Crazy Horse's folk-country melodies take on a guttural hum that would eventually speak to generations of punk and grunge musicians.

Inspired by the overdose deaths of two of Young's friends, roadie Bruce Berry and guitarist Danny Whitten, the title track (and its closing reprise) is a hypnotic cry of why? Even the relative party songs, Come On Baby Let's Go Downtown and Roll Another Number, fit the album's bus-to-nowhere resignation. -Steve Knopper

    Idlewild

Everything But The Girl was an English musical duo, formed in Hull in 1982, consisting of lead singer and occasional guitarist Tracey Thorn and guitarist, keyboardist, and singer Ben Watt.

Originating at the turn of the 1980s as a leader of the lite-jazz movement, Everything But The Girl became an unlikely success story more than a decade later, emerging at the vanguard of the fusion between Pop and Electronica.

Idlewild (1988), their most accessible recording, consists of eleven intimate songs. The setting is perfect for such moving compositions as Love Is Here Where I Live and Apron Strings. The album spawned the single I Don't Want to Talk About It, a poignant cover of a song by the late Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten which became EBTG's biggest hit to date, landing at the number three spot on the British charts. Mescalito

A vagabond spirit permeates these tales of truck stops, tip jars, boxcars, and love left behind, with a slide guitar punctuating arrangements that range from acoustic folk to classic rock (amid hints of the Rolling Stones, Neil Young's Crazy Horse, and a young Tom Waits). Yet ultimately, the impressive debut by this Southwestern, raspy-voiced troubadour is more than the sum of its songs, as the sequencing almost amounts to a narrative of life on the road, with the world-weary, end-of-the-line Long Way from Georgia and Ever Wonder Why, leading to the renewal of Sunrise. Former Black Crowes guitarist Marc Ford produced and provides multi-instrumental support, with Texas honky-tonk legend Terry Allen offering guest vocals and piano on Ghost of Travelin' Jones.

    Dub Egg

Following up on last year's acclaimed limited-edition LP for Mexican Summer, the Austin-based quartet The Young (guitarist/vocalist Hans Zimmerman, bassist Jason Costanszo, guitarist Kyle Edwards and drummer Ryan Maloney) make their proper debut with a crafted, explosive record best summed up as "classic Matador meets classic rock."

After a year sharing the stage with Sic Alps, Kurt Vile, Pierced Arrows, Endless Boogie and other masters of modern rock guitar, their meticulous interplay has become both uncanny and unstoppable. Dub Egg is a shimmering, incandescent approach to classic forms that nobody could have imagined from these guys a couple years ago. The album carries echos of Crazy Horse, Television, Quicksilver Messenger Service, the Dream Syndicate as well as the aforementioned.

Recorded in a woodland cabin, all-analog and self-produced, this exceptionally beautiful sounding rock album, to be released on Matador Records, is the sort of expansive, guitar masterclass (never at the expense of terrific songs, mind you) they've only hinted at previously.

Guitarist and singer-songwriter Nils Lofgren in 1997 released a small treasure for longtime fans. Acoustic Live captures Lofgren alone in front of an appreciative audience, knocking out such favorites as You, No Mercy and Keith Don't Go, plus six new songs. Even with the new songs, there are no real revelations, only a selection of little gems that will put a smile on your face as you listen.

Along with his work as a solo artist, Lofgren has marked more than 25 years as a member of Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band as well as a former member of Crazy Horse and Grin. Lofgren joined Neil Young's band in 1968 at age 17, playing piano on the album After the Gold Rush. Lofgren would maintain a close musical relationship with Young, appearing on his Tonight's the Night album and tour among others. He was also briefly a member of Crazy Horse, appearing on their 1971 LP and contributing songs to their catalogue. From '71 to '74 Lofgren was active in Grin, the band he founded in '69. Solo albums and tours followed every year through the 1970s as Lofgren established himself as a top guitarist and live performer earning the respect and acclaim of his peers. Bruce Springsteen made the call in 1984 and Lofgren joined the E-Street Band for the Born in the USA tour. Lofgren was an instant hit with Springsteens fans through his playing and vibrant on stage persona. Lofgren remains a stalwart of the E-Street Band to the present day.

Acoustic Live is an interesting and charming album from Nils Lofgren in 1997 as he follow on in the Unplugged tradition that became popular in the 1990s. It was actually recorded at The Barns Of Wolftrap, Vienna in Virginia on January 18th, 1997. - bestlivealbums.com

Recorded at various shows during Neil Young and Bluenote CafÉ's 1988 tour, this superb live set documents one of Neil's most funky and heartfelt periods, featuring 7 unreleased songs - Soul of a Woman, Bad News Comes to Town, Ain't it the Truth, I'm Goin', Crime of the Heart, Doghouse, Fool for Your Love, - and a searing 19+ minute version of the immortal Tonight's the Night at The Pier in New York City. It was a wild night.

Twenty-Five For The Rest Of Our Lives

Los Angeles quartet The Henry Clay People are thrilled to announce the release of their new album Twenty-Five for the Rest of Our Lives. Set for release on TBD Records, the album is a thrilling and sweaty thirty minutes of teenage restlessness, quarter-life malaise, and adult resignation. Twenty-Five for the Rest of Our Lives sees not only the return of the band's original line up, but songwriters and brothers Joey and Andy Siara rediscovering and redefining their punky roots, allowing them to craft their most urgent, bratty, and melancholic record to date.

"We wanted to finally make the record that our sixteen year old selves would have been excited about," says Joey. "Unfortunately the only way to do so was to live for the last 13 years and get some adult suffering under our belt. Now we can direct our misguided teenage angst at our failed 20's."

With songs such as the rambunctious The Backseat Of A Cab, the 90's guitar slack of Hide, the skater brat inspired The Fakers and the punk revival of EveryBandWeEverLoved, Twenty-Five for the Rest of Our Lives is a record dealing with compromised dreams and empty bank accounts, for and by the high school Descendents devotee turned college Malkmus-minion. LP includes full album on CD and poster.

"The Henry Clay People specialize in raggedy power chords, barreling piano, and desperately boyish vocals, what Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers would sound like if they'd taken temp work and listened obsessively to Crazy Horse." - SPIN

"Remarkable set of classic-sounding indie-rock with clear echoes of Pavement, the Hold Steady, the Replacements and early Built to Spill, but they find their own voice with detailed songs that split the difference between sardonic and heartfelt when describing the music scene, living in debt and working part-time, transforming everyday subject matter into raging, celebratory anthems for slacker rock 'n' rollers and other folks just trying to make ends meet." - KEXP

    Live at the Music Hall

Those who were fortunate to catch Phosphorescent at any of the their shows in 2013 can attest to the fact
that this is no ordinary touring band. Built around the core of founding member/songwriter Matthew
Houck, Phosphorescent has expanded from a loop-station based solo act into a fully fledged classic rock
band to be held in the same regard as the likes of Crazy Horse. They spent most of 2013 touring behind
their hugely acclaimed album Muchacho, and by the end of the year the band were at the peak of their
powers. This 3xLP live album was recorded over the course of four jam-packed, sweltering holiday
    nights in mid-December.

The shows featured the full line up of Matthew Houck (Voice, Guitar, Piano), Rustine Bragaw (Bass,
Voice), Christopher Marine (Drums), David Torch (Percussion), Jo Schornikow (Organ, Voice), Scott
Stapleton (Piano, Voice), Ricky Ray Jackson (Pedal Steel, Guitar, Voice). The songs are culled from across
the catalogue of Phosphorescent albums stretching back to early live favorite 'Wolves', which is featured
here in both solo form and in full band guise, through to current classics such as 'Song for Zula' & Ride
    On/Right On'.

After the shows, Houck spent hours going through the recordings, piecing together this definitive live
collection. This is far from a quick cash-in live album - in fact, it should should perhaps be seen as the
ultimate Phosphorescent record, taking the recordings that make the studio album to a whole new level.
Once Houck had pieced together the tracks, he and album mixer John Agnello worked through the
tracks, mixing them to truly represent that amazing Phosphorescent sound - one part cowboy bravado,
    one part wounded master.

You can hear how Houck's voice cracks over over the tender 'Tell Me Baby ' and how it soars in the
perhaps definitive Phosphorecent live song 'Los Angeles'. The musicianship on display here is supreme,
particularly Ricky Ray's sublime pedal steel and the dual keyboard work of Schornikow and Stapleton,
playing opposite each other and playing off each other. This album should be considered an addition to
the pantheon of classic live records - The Who's Live at Leeds, Frampton Comes Alive, Neil Young's Rust
Never Sleeps, The Band's The Last Waltz, Bob Marley's Live, Cheap Trick's Live at the Budokan - like those,
it is a defining moment in the catalogue of Phosphorescent.

    Junky Star

Ryan Bingham and The Dead Horses' new album Junky Star follows-up the Lost Highway releases Mescalito (2007) and Roadhouse Sun (2009). Bingham recently won the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Original Song for The Weary Kind (Theme From Crazy Heart), which he co-wrote with multi-Grammy Award-winning producer/musician T-Bone Burnett. The collaboration between Bingham and Burnett developed into a solid artistic relationship during the Crazy Heart recordings, and as a result, Burnett signed on to produce Junky Star.

All 12 songs on Junky Star were written by Bingham and performed by his longtime band The Dead Horses, featuring Matt Smith (drums), Elijah Ford (bass) and Corby Shaub (guitar/mandolin). Burnett created a recording environment that perfectly complimented the themes and textures of Binghams reflective songwriting and gravelly voice. The tracks on Junky Star range from narratives with vivid imagery (The Poet), to introspective confessionals (Hallelujah), to bluesy roadhouse stomps (Direction Of The Wind) to Sticky Fingers-era Stones (Depression) and the compelling folk balladry of Yesterdays Blues and Lay My Head On The Rail.

    Gimme Fiction (Deluxe Edition)

Remastered By Howie Weinberg from the Original Tapes, includes a Second Disc with 12 Previously Unreleased Demos, a Full-color Book Containing Photos and an Extensive Oral History of the making of the album. The Deluxe LP Package Will Also Include A 24" X 36" Poster.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Spoon classic, Merge will release a deluxe limited-edition version of Gimme Fiction on double-LP (180g). The reissue contains the album remastered by Howie Weinberg from the original tapes, a second disc with 12 previously unreleased demos from the era, nine additional bonus tracks via digital download, and a full-color book containing photos and an extensive oral history of the making of the album. The deluxe LP package will also include a 24" x 36" poster.

Gimme Fiction dragged the sonic pointillism of Kill the Moonlight further into dub-influenced weirdness as the increasingly confident Spoon went crazy in the studio, experimenting with everything from warped hip-hop samples to horse whinnies. How all this directionless Dylan worship and psychedelic goofing resulted in an album as sharply realized as Gimme Fiction is a testament solely to Spoon's self-assurance and tastefulness (and some hard work, and a bit of luck, etc.). Whatever digging or strange alchemy had to go into it, they only produced more gold. Gimme Fiction deserves special recognition because it's the album where Spoon-backed into a corner-took some crazy leaps, all of them forward. It's a "departure point" for a band that, lucky for us, has never made a real departure. And when it came time for a reissue, we knew it deserved a lasting place on vinyl, right alongside every other indispensable record in Spoon's discography.

    Gone Troppo

Remastered From The Original Analogue Master Tapes And Cut At Capitol Studios To Ensure Exceptional Audio Quality Throughout

    Pressed On 180-Gram Vinyl

Gone Troppo, issued on Dark Horse Records in November 1982, would prove to be Harrison s last studio album for five years, during which he largely took an extended hiatus from his recording career. The album title, Gone Troppo, was an Australian slang expression meaning 'gone mad/crazy' and also a reference to the Italian term 'non troppo', used in tempo markings and meaning 'not too much'. Billboard said of Gone Troppo: 'Harrison's sunny lyricism shines brightest when least encumbered by self-consciousness, and here that equation yields a breezy, deceptively eclectic charmer.'

    The Best Day

The Best Day, Thurston Moore's first solo record since
2011's Demolished Thoughts, radiates with both
his signature dynamism of dense thrashing electric
guitars as well as blissful 12-string acoustic ballads.
Recorded with Thurston's current band line-up of
James Sedwards (guitars, UK), Deb Googe (of My
Bloody Valentine, bass, UK) and Steve Shelley (Sonic
Youth, drums, USA), there are also a some tracks that
    feature all instrumentation by Thurston.

Thurston Moore has been at the forefront of the
alternative rock scene since that particular obriquet
was first used to signify any music that challenged
and defied the mainstream standard. He is the
founder and ringleader of Sonic Youth, the band
that turned on an entire generation to the value of
experimentation in rock n' roll - from its inspiration
on a nascent Nirvana, to Sonic Youth's own Daydream
Nation album being chosen by the US Library of
Congress for historical preservation in the National
    Recording Registry in 2006.

This is a record defined by positivity and radical
love. The songs range from opener "Speak to the
    Wild", a Crazy Horse-like paean to anti-authority
and activism, to "Vocabularies", a paean to a new
realization of language which includes ALL people.

    If You Knew My Mind

Capps is a southern rock troubadour with an eye on the human condition and a pen to write about it. -- OffBeat Magazine

Grayson Capps is like a whiskey-soaked, back-alley poet sired by Tom Waits and Robert Johnson. -- Razor Magazine

It takes less than 30 seconds for the debut album from this New Orleans-based singer/songwriter to pull you in. A lone harmonica blows over a softly strummed electric guitar as a lazy rhythm section props up the beat. Grayson Capps' weathered voice then enters: Yesterday was a very fine day indeed, I got a pint of beer, went outside and brushed my teeth. That about sums up this impressive yet unassuming bluesy debut from one of the many musicians who sound like what New Orleans feels like: languid, a little grimy and dangerous, but with a sense of history and self that wafts up from the streets. Those who listened closely to the soundtrack of the movie A Love Song for Bobby Long will recognize Capps, as his music was used to excellent effect in that rather obscure flick. In fact, Lorraine's Song, the most recognizable tune on that soundtrack, is a Capps composition and gets a suitably impressive and subtle performance here, as does the song whose title inspired the movie. He has a way with a drowsy melody, and after a few spins, these tracks gradually take hold. Certainly anyone who has explored the back streets of New Orleans will recognize the downtrodden characters who populate this album. Capps mythologizes their misery and sadness in songs that are heartfelt and edgy, but he never shortchanges melodies in exchange for gritty, often poetic lyrics. Guitar solos, such as the one in the Crazy Horse-styled Buckshot, are short, tight, and succinct, just like the band that ably supports Capps. His voice sounds like he just woke up and started singing before his first cup of coffee, but that adds to the effect. The album loses a little steam as it winds down, yet this is still a stirring first effort. It conveys the sense, sounds, and dark allure of New Orleans and many of its residents more effectively than a stroll through the French Quarter.

    Hasten Down The Wind

Make Haste! Grab the Limited-Edition 180g LP of this Classic Now!

Did any musician have more talent at their beckon call during the 70s than Linda Ronstadt? Absolutely not. Part of her impeccable string of mid-1970s albums that defined California's soft-rock scene, the Grammy-winning Hasten Down the Wind is Ronstadt at her best and that's saying something. Consider the watertight repertoire: The Warren Zevon title track. Patsy Cline's (by way of Willie Nelson) 'Crazy.' Buddy Holly's 'That'll Be the Day.' Nelson's 'Down So Low.' Karla Bonoff's 'If He's Ever Near.' Ry Cooder's 'The Tattler.'

And then, there's the supporting cast, which includes Eagles legend Don Henley on drums and harmony vocals, folk-rock legend Peter Asher on guitar, session drumming master Russ Kunkel, and multi-instrumentalist sensation Andrew Gold playing just about everything with strings or skins. Couple this with the thematically revealing cover in a nod to the escapism of fantasy romance novels, the singer stands on a beach before an ocean and a running horse, her exposing dress a sign of the lovesick vulnerability that colors the songs and Hasten Down the Wind is the complete package of sensuality, passion, and poignancy.

Now, due to Mobile Fidelity's trademark sonic restoration, the album finally has the exquisite sound it has always deserved. Listeners can now literally feel Ronstadt's deep-seeded emotions. Even better, her covers of affecting ballads and midtempo country-rock numbers intentionally revolve around vocal-heavy arrangements. It's no wonder that the album, which topped the country charts, also yielded two Top 20 hits and resulted in the artist's first platinum-record award.

But make haste! Quantities are limited, and, unlike Ronstadt's timeless interpretations, this will not be around forever.
