    OBH-15MK2 MM/MC Phono Pre-Amplifier

With modern amplifiers expected to cater for so many new source devices, the Phono capability, once very common, is one of those built-in features that has disappeared in recent times. The engineering team at Creek Audio has always loved the benefits of vinyl records and continues to work on technical and sonic improvements to its range of Phono amp options, be it the stand-alone OBH or Wyndsor or plug-in Sequel types. Tasked with designing a replacement for the long running OBH-15, the team came up with some valuable improvements and additional features; surprisingly they made them all fit into the original OBH-sized casework.

The OBH-15 mk2 has a completely new circuit design, with a discrete transistor MC and integrated circuit MM stage. Unlike its predecessor, the new amp has multiple gain settings and matching capabilities for capacitance and resistance. The signal required by most modern amplifiers is described as being 'LINE' level which is, in technical terms, between 200 and 500 milli-Volts sensitivity with a flat frequency response. Unless your amplifier has a specific 'Phono' or Disc input, the level will be too low to play vinyl and the frequency response will be wrong.

    Ambit Tuner

For more than 30 years Creek Audio has established itself as an expert in the field of radio. Historically, Mike Creek has developed and manufactured radio products since the early 70s. Mike's father also made radio products, so it's in his DNA. The latest DAB radios use bit-compression to turn all radio stations into the equivalent of very poor quality MP3 players. Needless to say, this is the main reason for Creek not offering a DAB radio in its Hi-Fi range. In any case, you don't need to buy a DAB radio when all the digital and analogue stations are broadcast over the internet now. Even analogue stations, broadcast over the internet, are digitised and compressed, so the best way to listen is still via a traditional radio or tuner.

The latest tuner in Creek's EVOLUTION range is the AMBIT FM/AM Tuner module, suitable for adding to the EVOLUTION 50A or the EVOLUTION 100A amplifier. Plugging this tuner into the back panel of the amplifier upgrades the amp into a Receiver. Its Plug and Play nature also allows it to update the amp's software to the latest revision automatically. Once the tuner is installed and the amp is switched-on, the display will show the amp having an extra input - A Tuner input, in fact. However, it will look to the user like a stand-alone tuner in the OLED display window.

Once installed, the four left hand buttons on the front panel, together with the left hand control knob and or remote control handset, will offer all the radio function controls.

The AMBIT tuner receives the entire FM and AM frequency band and digitises it with two high quality ADCs. It then manages the signal using a Digital Signal processor and even separates the left and right channel information in FM. After this, using its own high quality DAC, it returns the digital signal to Audio, to be amplified by the EVOLUTION 50A or 100A.

The result is simply brilliant. FM signals have textbook operation, with none of the usual problems associated with analogue tuner performance. RDS stations will show their name and other information. AM performance is excellent also and can provide excellent performance just from the loop antenna provided, if there is a good indoor signal.

FM radio performance is limited only by the quality of the signal and of course the antenna used. Choose an external antenna for the best results.

Listen to your favourite stations like you have never heard them before.

    Evolution 50A V2

Creek Audio has a long history of making fine sounding Phono pre-amplifiers.

This new amplifier forms part of the next generation EVOLUTION 50 range of products. Housed in a slim case with engraved front panel and solid
control knobs, it's finished in either black or silver brushed aluminium. An ingenious new push button design has been developed for it, offering excellent tactile feel and backlit optical indication of usable functions for optimum user-friendliness.

The 50 series is the first Creek product to feature an OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display. This white on black display provides higher clarity and resolution than a normal display and offers a wide range of customised graphic symbols. Display brightness levels can be changed or turn off when not required via the menu system.

At the heart of any good amplifier lies a good power supply; The EVOLUTION 50A uses a massive 200 Watt toroidal mains transformer with separate windings for high and low current analogue and digital circuitry. This produces a good power to weight ratio and low magnetic interference. Creek's policy of paralleling several low impedance capacitors together, to create an ultra-high specification capacitor, to smooth the DC also helps to produce a very powerful and accurate sound from such a relatively small amplifier.

Creek's Senior Engineer - David Gamble - who has much experience in the audio industry developed a completely new bi-polar transistor power amplifier circuit especially for the EVOLUTION 50A with very high open-loop gain and low distortion. Featuring a pair of Sanken 15 Amp power transistors, with built-in thermal compensation for rapid bias tracking performance, the Power Amplifier circuit has very low output impedance and can produce high output current. This combination will provide exceptional speed and control with most loudspeakers.

David also developed a completely new analogue Pre-amp circuit, providing high levels of flexibility and control, via unbalanced or balanced inputs. It has multiple input options, switched electronically or via gold contact relays, plus electronic Volume, Balance and Tone controls. For Vinyl fans, a Sequel 2 Phono pre-amp can be plugged-in, substituting Line Input 1 for Phono. In addition, Line input 5 is located on a Smart- Slot removable panel. Should the user want to fit a Tuner or DAC module, Line 5 input can be removed and replaced by either the AMBIT tuner or RUBY module.

Creek Audio no longer makes a separate EVOLUTION Tuner, but die-hard analogue tuner fans can continue to listen using the top quality AMBIT plug-in tuner module, which augments the EVOLUTION 50A's capabilities. The AMBIT and Ruby modules can be mounted to the back panel 'Smart-Slot', replacing Line Input 5. When the AMBIT is fitted, it automatically turns the amp into a Receiver, suitable for use in every region of the world. The OLED shows tuner functions and buttons and knobs have dual functions.

The EVOLUTION 50A can also be configured for Vinyl Disc input, in place of Line input 1. The SEQUEL 2 module plugs into dedicated connectors on the pre-amp PCB and can run simultaneously with the AMBIT or RUBY. It comes in three versions - 40dB - 48dB and 54dB MM and MC.

To simplify the many options a stylish new system remote handset has been developed to control all the functions of the EVOLUTION 50 range. The EVOLUTION 50 range also features an optional IR extender to enable the products to be hidden away, but still operable via remote control.

    Evolution 100A

To maintain a family resemblance with the lower powered amplifier, the EVOLUTION 100A is housed in a similar slim case with engraved front panel and solid metal control knobs as the EVOLUTION 50A. It is available with either a Black or Silver brushed aluminium front panel and uses the same ingenious soft push button design as the EVOLUTION 50 series, offering excellent tactile feel and backlit optical indication of functions, for optimum user-friendliness.

The front panel features a large OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display. The white on black display provides higher clarity and resolution than a normal display and has a wide range of customised graphic symbols. Display brightness levels can be changed or turned-off, if not required, via the menu system.

In addition to greatly increased performance, thanks to ingenious new circuit design, the EVOLUTION 100A has been equipped with 2 sets of high quality loudspeaker binding posts, with local and remote switching for A & B outputs. Optional extras include the ability to plug the Sequel mk2 Phono pre-amp inside and add the AMBIT FM/AM radio or RUBY DAC/Bluetooth/FM radio module to the expansion slot on the rear panel.

At the heart of any high-end amplifier there must be a good power supply; The EVOLUTION 100A uses a massive 360 Watt, low profile, toroidal mains transformer, with multiple windings for high and low voltages and current, to separate the power amp, pre-amp and digital circuitry. Creek's long-standing design policy of paralleling several small capacitors in the power supply creates an ultra-high specification capacitor, with low inductance and ultra low impedance. This significantly improves filtering and helps produce a very powerful and accurate sound from such a relatively small amplifier.

After testing several methods of building a high performance and high efficiency power amplifier, suitable for this new model, David Gamble - Creek Audio's Senior Engineer - created a unique Class G circuit especially for the EVOLUTION 100A. David chose to use four Sanken STD03 complimentary power Darlington transistors per channel, as used in the EVOLUTION 50A, which feature built-in thermal compensation. Compared to the EVOLUTION 50A, he improved the performance of the voltage gain circuitry, which, in combination with the output stage, now achieves extremely high open-loop gain and exceptionally low distortion, without sacrificing stability. The result is an exceptional power amplifier circuit with very low output impedance and high output current capability. This combination provides exceptional speed and control suitable for driving most loudspeakers.

To increase the power output of the smaller EVOLUTION 50A, yet still retain the same case size, David Gamble developed a cunning Class G circuit which runs normally at a lower voltage for power levels up to 25 Watts into 8 Ohms. When required to produce more than 25 Watts, the amp automatically swings to a higher secondary voltage, to increase the output power capability to over 100 Watts into 8 Ohms.

Statistically, average audio signals are mostly below half the maximum voltage swing available, which incidentally is only one quarter of the power. As the dissipation of lossy 'idle current' in a Class A/B amp (in the form of heat) is much lower for a 25 Watt amp than the potential 100 Watts in the EVOLUTION 100A, this solution dramatically improves the amplifier's thermal efficiency and helps to keep it slim and attractive.

The Pre-amp circuit provides high levels of flexibility and control, via unbalanced or balanced inputs. It has multiple input options, switched either electronically or by gold contact relays. It also has a State-of-the-Art electronic Volume, Balance and Tone controls. Volume control and op-amp circuit outputs are all buffered with constant current sources, to provide improved load tolerance and stable distortion characteristics.

Correct grounding is difficult, if not impossible, in an un-balanced amplifier, so Creek has provided the consumer with a balanced line input for both the pre-amp and power amp input. In addition, the optional RUBY DAC module also benefits from having a dedicated balanced audio connection to the EVOLUTION 100A's pre-amp, via its flat foil cable, to avoid potential ground loops inside the amplifier.

It is a modern listening trend for headphones to now be fed from low voltage sources, such as smart-phones and portable music storage devices. This required the development of low impedance headphones, to draw the required current to make them loud enough to satisfy the consumer. This trend has also necessitated a re-think of circuitry used in modern Hi-Fi amplifiers, to drive such low impedance headphones, together with the traditional medium to high impedance versions also.

Creek Audio has taken the unusual step of driving the headphone output socket of their EVOLUTION amplifiers from a dedicated low impedance source. Instead of the headphone output being sourced from the power amplifier, the headphone output is derived from a dedicated amplifier, with only a few Ohms in series for protection against short circuits. This dedicated HP amp is now located on the pre-amplifier circuit board.

Creek Audio no longer makes a separate FM Tuner, but die-hard analogue tuner fans can continue to enjoy this valuable format by using the top-quality AMBIT plug-in tuner module, which augments the EVOLUTION 50A and 100A's capabilities. The AMBIT or RUBY modules are mounted on the back panel 'Smart-Slot', replacing Line Input 5. When the AMBIT is fitted, it automatically turns the amp into a Receiver, configurable for use in any region of the world. The OLED display shows all the tuner's functions and it's controlled by the left hand buttons and control knobs, as well as remote control.

For vinyl fans, the EVOLUTION 100A can also be configured for Vinyl Disc input, using Line input 1. A SEQUEL 2 (40, 48 or 54) module can be plugged into a dedicated connector on the pre-amp PCB. It doesn't restrict the use of either the AMBIT or RUBY modules. Sequel 2 comes in three versions - 40dB MM, 48dB MC and 54dB MC.

To simplify the many options a stylish system remote handset controls all the functions of the EVOLUTION 50 and 100 series. An optional IR extender to enable the products to be hidden away, but still operable via remote control.

The EVOLUTION 100A is the most sophisticated and reasonably priced amplifier Creek has ever made. It provides stunning audio performance and is capable of out-performing other makes of amplifiers costing many times the price.

    Wyndsor Phono Amp Black

Creek Audio has a long history of making fine sounding Phono pre-amplifiers.

Dating back to the company's first product, the 4040 manufactured in 1982, and more recently the fine sounding OBH range of stand-alone Phono pre-amps, Creek has always applied extra attention to this part of an amplifier's circuitry to obtain the best performance and price. The complexity and accuracy of previous Creek in-built and external Phono pre-amplifiers has always been balanced to suit the total cost of the product and to match the grade of performance versus price.

Creek's first step towards a no-compromise Phono Pre-amplifier was introduced in 2006 when it produced the Destiny Phono Card. This plug-in circuit was exclusive to the Creek Destiny integrated amplifier and was limited to running from the amplifier's own power supply. Its performance proved exemplary, due to the new circuit design, which utilised very high performance Op-Amps and Balanced SSM2019 integrated amplifiers, with extremely accurate passive components to achieve accurate RIAA EQ. To make it work within the limited confines of an integrated amplifier, it squeezed both left and right channels onto a small 4 layer PCB, using surface mount technology.

The success of the Destiny plug-in Phono board led to the development of the Wyndsor Phono Pre-amplifier, as a no compromise stand-alone product. It is built into the same stylish case as the Wyndsor LP1 Speed Controller, which is used to power Creek's high-end turntable.

In order to provide the best performance, left and right channels are built on separate PCB's.

Each channel has dedicated power supply regulation to completely isolate it from the other channel.

Unbalanced input and outputs are connected via high grade gold plated RCA sockets.

Balanced input is possible via dedicated 3 pin mini DIN sockets. Tone arms and some cartridges can be wired specially in balance configuration and soldered to the DIN plugs provided with this product.

Input selection, cartridge loading and gain are all fully adjustable from the front panel High quality gold contact relays are used to switch all the functions and are driven from a dedicated, stand-alone, high quality linear power supply to isolate them from the analogue pre-amp circuitry.

The front panel display indicates which functions have been selected. A micro-controller based control interface is accessed through a rotary input selector and push buttons. Several types of cartridge with different parameters can be programmed and the user can name and store them as pre-set numbers in the unit's memory. It is possible to write up to 16 characters on the display for each selection. For each entry the display will show the cartridge name and type, plus a full description of loading, gain and input type. The display can be adjusted in brightness or turned off completely.

Mute will short the output of the pre-amp, to enable the user to change a record and cut the volume in a convenient way and return to the previous level by pressing the Mute button again.

The Phono pre-amplifier uses a newly developed Wyndsor power supply unit, with separate supplies for analogue and digital circuits. Turning the pre-amp on and off from the mains is achieved by the switch on the front of the power supply or on the back of the pre-amp.

    Ruby DAC

Creek's EVOLUTION 50A and EVOLUTION 100A amplifiers are normally supplied with 5 analogue inputs. However, Line input 5 is mounted on a removable panel, so it can be swapped with a tuner or DAC module, to add several more inputs.

The RUBY DAC module contains 4 x SPDIF inputs for both optical and co-axial connection. In addition it has a USB input, to stream audio content to the amplifier from a computer and control it via the EVO remote control.

To maintain the best sound quality from your amplifier, the RUBY DAC module uses a top of the range Wolfson WM8742 DAC chip, designed in Scotland.

For mobile applications, the RUBY DAC also adds the highly useful feature of Bluetooth connectivity to the amp, via the RUBY DAC. So smart phones or tablets can be synced to the amp and your favourite music streamed wirelessly.

In addition to this surprising amount of connectivity in such a small module, Creek have also incorporated the same FM tuner circuit, used in the brilliant AMBIT module, to provide FM connectivity to the RUBY DAC. Sound quality is further improved over the AMBIT module by selecting the tuner's digital output and converting that to analogue via the RUBY's own high-end DAC.

FM radio performance is limited only by the quality of the studio signal and of course the antenna used. Choose an external antenna for the best results.

    Adult Film

Tim Kasher seems to never rest. Since 1997, he has written and released 12 full-length albums both as a solo artist and with his bands Cursive and The Good Life, and has crisscrossed North America and Europe countless times on tour. His newest album, sophomore solo effort Adult Film, began coming together in late 2011, just shortly after Cursive finished recording their seventh LP I Am Gemini (Saddle Creek, 2012). Kasher continued to work on it over the next year before heading to Electrical Audio studio in his adopted hometown of Chicago, IL in spring 2013.

Adult Film is more thematically elastic than any other of his recent albums, and spans songs that reflect on matters such as aging and mortality, growing up and growing older, and how these things impact our relationships-including the way we interact with and view the life around us. Kasher is as lyrically incisive as ever: the album is packed
with thoughtful apprehensions, cleverly turned phrases, and reflections on himself and the world at large, all run through his distinctive filter of dry wit and frequent self-deprecation.

Musically, the new album plays down the orchestral element of his lush debut solo album The Game Of Monogamy (Saddle Creek, 2010) and offers a more direct, yet no less affecting, blend of rock and pop. Kasher is aided throughout by Sara Bertuldo (bass, vocals), Patrick Newbery (organ, keys, synths, horns), and Dylan Ryan (drums) - who backed him while touring around Monogamy-as well as Nate Kinsella (drums; of Make Believe and Birthmark); Laura Stevenson (vocals; of Laura Stevenson and the Cans); Matt Focht (drums; of Head Of Femur); Jenna Morrison (vocals; of Conduits); Laura Carrozza (flute; of Aficionado); and Sarah Holtschlag (saw). Adult Film was mixed by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Wye Oak, Explosions In The Sky) at Elmwood Recording in Dallas, TX.

Kasher has become known throughout his career for insightful, literate, and candid songwriting, and his solo work and albums with Cursive and The Good Life have been praised by Rolling Stone, Esquire, The New York Times, Alternative Press, SPIN, Entertainment Weekly, Billboard, The A.V. Club, and Vice, among many others.

    Icky Blossoms

Hailing from America's center, Omaha-based Icky Blossoms formed in the blizzard of 2011 through friendship, trials and a mutual desire to make art and new music. A brainchild born from the boredom of sitting still. Guitarist and vocalist Derek Pressnall met Icky Blossoms vocalist Sarah Bohling and lead guitarist Nik Fackler in the vibrant Omaha art scene and invited them to play in his band Flowers Forever. Enchanted by endless nights in clubs and inspired with a desire to program dance music with instantaneous grooves and depth, Pressnall, an acclaimed visual artist, and Fackler, a spirit award nominated filmmaker, combined with Bohling's mesmerizing voice and formed Icky Blossoms.

Icky Blossoms combine bass-heavy electronic grooves, pop structure, and a rock & roll swagger to pioneer a sound on the audio vanguard: music that is simultaneously avant garde, catchy and danceable. Their music spans from the anthemic to the introverted, chronicling the twists and turns of the human condition. Nodding to great sub-genres of the past, while creating songs firmly propelled into the future. Each band member arrives at the group from distinct musical backgrounds and collectively cite varied influences including contemporary pop, electronic, hip hop, experimental, no wave and world music. When Derek, Sarah, and Nik each input their particular inspirations they create a final product that is not only wholly unexpected, but greater than the sum of its parts.

Icky Blossoms' sound and explosive live shows caught the attention of Omaha's distinguished Saddle Creek, which has since signed the trio to release their debut LP. The self-titled album, produced by Dave Sitek from TV On The Radio, is slated for a July of 2012 release and features tracks that range from "Perfect Vision," an experiment based around trunk thumping low end and chainsaw guitars, to "Babes," which was lauded by Rolling Stone as a "girl-power dance anthem." Other standout tracks include "Heat Lightning," with its hypnotic arpeggiated synths, electro pulse and siren-esque vocals; the more raucous "Sex to the Devil," featuring futuristic synth lines and esoteric lyrics; or "Temporary Freakout," a classic pop song within an unconventional structure.

With a strong emphasis on DIY, the trio plans to integrate all their artistic abilities into the band, able then to better connect with those who choose to follow their creations or attend their live shows. Imbued with a celebratory atmosphere, their concerts have grown to be conduits for personal expression and individual creativity for everyone in the room. Loud, sweaty and out of control, the edge of their music and personalities combine with the hooks of their pop songs, creating a show which is one side dance party, one side mosh pit. By brazenly denying to be subservient to a single genre or medium, Icky Blossoms is set to garner the attention of a truly diverse audience and make a lasting impact on music to come. LP includes full album on CD.

    Ivy Tripp

Katie Crutchfield's southern roots are undeniable. The name of her solo musical project Waxahatchee comes from a creek not far from her childhood home in Alabama and seems to represent both where she came
from and where she's going. Waxahatchee's latest record, Ivy Tripp, drifts confidently from its predecessors and brings forth a more informed and powerful recognition of where Crutchfield has currently found herself. The lament and grieving for her youth seem to have been replaced with control and sheer self-honesty. "My life has changed a lot in the last two years, and it's been hard for me to process my feelings other than by writing songs," says Crutchfield. "I think a running theme [of Ivy Tripp] is steadying yourself on
shaky ground and reminding yourself that you have control in situations that seem overwhelming, or just being cognizant in moments of deep confusion or sadness, and learning to really feel emotions and to grow from that."

Recorded and engineered by Kyle Gilbride of Wherever Audio at Crutchfield's home on New York's Long Island-with drums recorded in the gym of a local elementary school-Ivy Tripp presents a more developed and
aged version of Waxahatchee. "The title Ivy Tripp is really just a term I made up for directionless-ness, specifically of the 20-something, 30-something, 40-something of today, lacking regard for the complaisant life path of our parents and grandparents. I have thought of it like this: [Waxahatchee's last album] Cerulean Salt is a solid and Ivy Tripp is a gas."

As far as her goals with Ivy Tripp, Crutchfield says, "I heard someone say that you have to be the change you want to see. I just want to be the kind of musician I want to see in the world. I want to present myself in a way that reflects that."

Note: All cables in our Bridges & Falls Series place their left and right channels in a single jacket, and feature our Asymmetrical Double-Balanced geometry with separate high-quality positive and negative conductors. This design allows for a thin, flexible, and uniquely versatile high-performance cable that can be terminated with a variety of today's connections, including 3.5mm (male or female), DIN, and RCA. In Bridges & Falls, you'll find better metals and more sophisticated technologies - including Air-Tube insulation, Dielectric-Bias System, and Noise-Dissipation System - at lower prices than ever before. Do keep in mind, however, that, by necessity, the plugs on Bridges & Falls cables are fairly close together. If the L and R inputs of your components are more than 3 (7.6cm) apart, please consider models from our Rivers or Elements Series.

Spanning a creek and a formidable travel-impeding canyon, the Bixby Creek Bridge compliments and counterpoints the majestic beauty of California's spectacular coastline just north of Big Sur, 190km (120 miles) south of San Francisco. As an integral part of this stretch of landscape, the bridge has been featured in numerous TV shows and movies, and is seen on travel posters all over the world

SOLID PERFECT-SURFACE COPPER+ (PSC+) CONDUCTORS: Perfect-Surface Copper+ has an astonishingly smooth and pure surface. Proprietary metal-processing technology protects the wire's surface at every stage of drawing and fabrication. When high-purity low-oxide copper is kept as soft, pure and smooth as possible, it becomes a wonderfully low-distortion PSC+ conductor. PSC+ is manufactured by applying the same exceptional technology to an ultra-pure copper. The resulting sound quality is even more focused and simply less in the way. For over 30 years AudioQuest has pioneered the use of superior metals; yet even we were surprised by the huge leap in performance made possible with Perfect-Surface Technology. PSC+ simply outperforms all previously available copper metals at any price. All of Big Sur's conductors are solid. Electrical and magnetic interaction between strands in a conventional cable is the greatest source of distortion, often causing a somewhat dirty, harsh sound. Solid conductors are fundamental toward achieving Big Sur's very clean sound.

FOAMED-POLYETHYLENE INSULATION: Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation and circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. Big Sur uses air-filled Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation on both conductors because air absorbs next to no energy and Polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile. Thanks to all the air in Foamed-PE, it causes much less of the out-of-focus effect common to other materials.

METAL-LAYER NOISE-DISSIPATION SYSTEM (NDS): 100% shield coverage is easy. Preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment's ground reference requires AQ's Noise-Dissipation System. Noise-Dissipation System prevents a significant amount of RFI from reaching the equipment's ground plane.

ASYMMETRICAL DOUBLE-BALANCED GEOMETRY: Purpose designed for single-ended applications, Asymmetrical Double-Balanced Geometry offers a relatively lower impedance on the ground for a richer, and more dynamic experience. While many single-ended cable designs use a single path for both the ground and the shield, Double-Balanced designs separate the two for cleaner, quieter performance.

COLD-WELDED, GOLD-PLATED PURE PURPLE COPPER TERMINATIONS: This plug design allows for a connection devoid of solder, which is a common source of distortion. Because the ground shells are stamped instead of machined, the metal can be chosen for low distortion instead of machinability. Purple Copper offers a cleaner, clearer sound than the nickel-plated or OFHC metals commonly found in competing manufacturers' plugs.

    New Moon Daughter (Pure Pleasure)

This is no easy listen ... sparse, complex, often brooding arrangements coupled with Cassandra Wilson's deep, earthy voice and complicated phrasing demand your attention. Waver and you're lost. But ... give this album the listening time & space it deserves and reap the rewards. Unusual, highly atmospheric tracks that combine superb singing and marvellously 'distant' musical backings to weave real magic.

Cassandra Wilson's own excellent, jazz tinged compositions sit alongside a stunning set of ingenious covers from a highly diverse spectrum of composers. Last Train To Clarksville is transformed from a catchy pop song into a stripped-down and genuinely effective jazz vocal work-out. Harvest Moon slows down Neil Young's already wistful ballad to an almost painful level and, in so doing, takes it to an even higher level of gentle reflection. Hank Williams' I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry & U2's Love Is Blindness are transformed into three in the morning jazz club classics.
The vocals and backing to Robert Johnson's 32-20 are simplified to the point where only the essence of the blues is allowed to shine and, Lewis Allan's Strange Fruit becomes as desolate and challenging as it's horrific lyrics.

Clever, very effective and worth the required effort!

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Every March 17 on St. Patrick's Day, New York City merely paints a green line down the center of its Fifth Avenue parade route-a stunt easily pulled off by any city-but only Chicago dyes an entire river the perfect shade of emerald green to honor Irish culture. Why green? Thanks to Ireland's lush vegetation, the island is often lovingly referred to as the Emerald Isle. To the Irish, a green display of pride is not to be taken lightly. In the United States, even those of non-Irish descent know to wear green clothing on St. Patrick's Day, or else be playfully pinched by an Irish friend or colleague! But it's one thing to don a green shirt or tie, another thing altogether to transform a 156-mile long river. Chicago's Stephen M. Bailey, the man who orchestrated the transformation, boasted that he'd turn the River Chicago into the River Shannon (Ireland's longest) for a day, and, eventually, he did.

There was no specific recipe for successfully dyeing a river. A bit of trial and error was required. Initially, over 100 pounds of dye was used, and the river stayed green for a week! In the second year, 50 pounds of dye kept the river green for three full days. In the third year, it was found that using 25 pounds of dye would turn the river green for a single day. Two years later, environmental concerns led to the formation of a new vegetable-based dye that produces a perfect sea of green and lasts for four or five hours-40 pounds of the stuff does the trick. Following suit across the nation, major canals, minor creeks, city blocks, drinking fountains, and even the Presidential Fountain at the White House are dyed green for St. Patrick's Day-all thanks to the wonderful example set in Chicago.

SOLID LONG-GRAIN COPPER (LGC) CONDUCTORS: Solid conductors eliminate strand-interaction distortion. Chicago's solid Long-Grain Copper allows a smoother and clearer sound than cables using regular OFHC (Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity) copper. OFHC is a general metal industry specification regarding "loss" without any concern for distortion. LGC has fewer oxides within the conducting material, less impurities, less grain boundaries, and definitively better performance.

NITROGEN-INJECTED HARD-CELL FOAM INSULATION: Nitrogen-Injected Hard-Cell Foam insulation is used exclusively in most of AudioQuest's video and digital audio cables. Similar to Foamed-PE, it is nitrogen-injected to create air pockets. 'Hard' foam is used because the stiffness of the material allows the conductors in the cable to maintain the same relationship with each other along the full length of the cable, thus ensuring that the characteristic impedance of the cable is consistent.

METAL-LAYER NOISE-DISSIPATION SYSTEM (NDS): 100% shield coverage is easy. Preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment's ground reference requires AQ's Noise-Dissipation System. Noise-Dissipation System prevents a significant amount of RFI from reaching the equipment's ground plane.

DOUBLE-BALANCED GEOMETRY: Two ideal audio conductors separate from the cable's shield. Not only does this prevent the shield from being used as an inferior audio path, but it further optimizes sound quality by only grounding the shield at one end, reducing system ground-plane modulation.

COLD-WELDED GOLD-PLATED PLUGS: This plug design allows for a connection devoid of solder, which is a common source of distortion. Because the ground shells are stamped instead of machined, the metal can be chosen for low distortion instead of machinability.
