Stephen StillsWith his 1970 self-titled solo debut, Stephen Stills, like his CSN&Y bandmates, decided to explore other musical avenues. Stills offers up his trademark Southern California folk-pop sound here while incorporating the Latin, swamp and blues influences that were just beginning to emerge in his songwriting. The London session allowed Stills to finally team up with Eric Clapton on the track Go Back Home and Jimi Hendrix, who died prior to the album's release, is notably featured on the track Old Times, Good Times. Other collaborators include John Sebastian, Rita Coolidge, David Crosby, Graham Nash and Cass Elliot. Features two of Stills' biggest hits with Love the One You're With and Sit Yourself Down.1. DecadeA fantastic 3-LP collection of Neil's best-from Buffalo Springfield through CSNY to his own enigmatic solo career-featuring Southern Man; Down by the River; Helpless; Ohio; Sugar Mountain; Like a Hurricane; Heart of Gold; After the Gold Rush , and lots more.
One of the most influential artists of all time, Neil Young has set a standard of artistic integrity and iconoclastic creativity. Before starting his multi-platinum solo career, he was a founding member of the folk-rock band Buffalo Springfield and worked with the groups Crazy Horse and Crosby, Stills and Nash. The Canadian singer-songwriter was recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 for his work as a solo artist and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1982. Young's philanthropic work is as renowned as his musical legacy.
His famous Bridge School Benefit Concert has become a yearly tradition since 1986 and continues to boast an incredible line-up of high-profile artists. Each year, Young donates all of the proceeds to the Bay Area's Bridge School, which assists children with severe physical impairments and complex communication needs. He was also one of the original founders of Farm Aid in 1985, and continues to be an active member on the organization's board of directors.LP 1

Red OctopusMastered by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray at RTI from the Original RCA/Grunt Records Tapes
When Jefferson Airplane morphed successfully into Jefferson Starship in the mid-'70s, their musicianship, and recorded output was enthusiastically received and was a very important career move in the continuing story of these Bay Area superstars.
Red Octopus surely helped award them fame even further as this amazing Jefferson Starship LP went to #1 and soon became one of the many platinum plus ventures for this much loved and respected band. Their new formula worked tremendously as this watershed release featured a plethora of chart topping hits like Miracles, Play On Love, Fast Buck Freddie and There Will Be Love.
The band was rich with rock and roll history, consisting of Airplane mainstays Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, Marty Balin, plus later Airplane alumnus David Freiberg (Quicksilver), Papa John Creach, and Johnny Barbata (CSN+Y, Turtles), as well as new additions Craig Chaquico and Pete Sears. Jefferson Starship truly delivered the goods with Red Octopus as this album went on to quickly become a classic rock masterpiece!
Friday Music is no stranger to releasing some of the greatest music ever recorded by Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, Starship and Hot Tuna, so it is with much honor they have announced the release of the masterwork Red Octopus on 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl. This limited edition masterpiece has been impeccably mastered by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray at RTI from the original RCA/ Grunt Records tapes.
In honor of their continuing 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl series on the Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship franchise, Friday Music is also issuing this wonderful album with a very limited gatefold cover, which includes the original artwork elements, plus the lyrics and photos as you remember them from the original 1975 release. Spills OutOn third album Spills Out, Brooklyn noise-punk mischief-makers Pterodactyl have mutated from their abrasive loft-show roots into a glorious, broken-pop juggernaut. The band's squealing, sweat-soaked art-bustle had rapidly put them alongside contemporaries like Oneida, These Are Powers and Parts & Labor; but Spills Out gently leads the trio towards the uplifting, wistful harmonies of '60s rockers like The Zombies, CSNY and the pre-acid Beatles.1. Local Customs: Lone Star LowlandsThe second in Numeros series of peeks into the world of regional studios hones in on Mickey Rouses Lowland operation out of Beaumont, Texas. Long after the Boppers plane crashed and the Winter brothers (Johnny and Edgar) and Janis Joplin split, Texas Golden Triangle was home to a vibrant scene of musicians, songwriters, and entrepreneurs just trying to make it in Houston, let alone the world.
From the ashes of a vibrant garage and stage band scene, the Lowland studio and its clientele were formed. Holed up in a rundown strip mall, groups like Mourning Sun, Insight Out, Sage, Sassy, Mother Lion, Hope, Circus, and Boot Hill tracked out hundreds of demos, most of which were put on the shelf and left to bake in the South East Texas heat. Until now.
Over the last two years, Numero has painstakingly gone through every tape in the studios archives, selecting the best of the best (28 for this 2xLP) for this peerless compilation. The songs themselves run the gamut; southern boogie rock, CSNY clones, British blues thunder, garage-psych hangovers, Morricone-esque supper club instrumentals, yacht rock, and what can only be described as Bobby McPherin fronting the Velvet Underground, are threaded together in the way only a tightly-knit scene can be. Forget bringing these treasures back to life, Numeros giving them the life they never had.1. Lowlands Studio Band - Trash One

Together Forever: The Music City SessionsThe Two Things In One are a band that by rights should have been huge. The precociously talented, soulful quintet were popular in the early '70s in their native San Francisco Bay area, with the three local hit singles, Silly Song, Together Forever and Overdose, all sought after vinyl items today.
With an average age of 16 at the time these tracks were recorded for the legendary Music City label, this self-contained unit blended Stevie Wonder-like vocal chops and Meters/JB grooves with a rare ability for transforming unlikely covers like the Allman Brothers' Dreams and CSNY's Ohio into deeply funky workouts. During their time together, The Two Things In One recorded more than an album's worth of superb, mostly original material, all of which can now be heard on Together Forever: The Music City Sessions.
Members later played with Tower of Power, Maze, Sly & The Family Stone and the Two Things In One story is a fascinating rundown of what could have been. ColoursAshley Eriksson (darling to many for her work with LAKE) has achieved a status few artists ever know: her song Island Song can be hummed by almost any teenager in the United States (a surprising discovery she made while teaching Portland's
Rock Camp for Girls last summer). Used as the closing theme for Cartoon Network's cult sensation Adventure Time, Island Song has over a million views on Youtube and has generated dozens of cover videos, making Ashley Eriksson the equivalent of a household name to the youth of America.
Now Ashley Eriksson has recorded Colours [KLP245], her inspired solo debut on K, and a collection of piano pieces, ballads and songs for her fans around the world. Tucker Martine (producer of LAKE, Decemberists) planted the idea that Ashley should make a solo record after they worked together in 2011, but it wasn't until returning from a trip to Sweden that Ashley was motivated to create Colours, and her vision for a solo piano album quickly evolved to include songs with her beloved '70s style of instrumentation and pop sensibility (most strikingly her cover of Ett Stilla Regn a song by the tragic Swedish pop team Ted and Kenneth GÄrdestad, adapted in the style Me and My Arrow by Harry Nilsson). Because Ashley engineered and recorded the album herself (using the same 8-track she's been recording with since she was a teenager), she was able to capture her collection of songs in a variety of old haunts, including favorite grange halls and churches, her tiny shed in northern Sweden, friends' houses, and in the Whidbey Island studio-trailer where she lived with husband (and LAKE collaborator) Eli Moore.
It's the emotional space Ashley reserved for herself while recording Colours that makes it such a personal and vivid statement. Of writing the beautiful, lead ballad Why Are You So Helpless?" Ashley says "I dreamt this song while I was sleeping in the little shed behind my dad's house in northern Sweden. I was in a record store and a John Lennon song came on I'd never heard before. It was a 70's 'super group' album, like the Band or CSNY or something like that. When I woke up I was anxious
to capture the song. I recorded the demo on my phone and sang with an acoustic guitar I had with me." In a similar way, all the songs on Colours are collected from her dreams, expanded by graceful piano notes and the peaceful echoes of fire-lit
evenings.01. March of the Conch

Both Sides of the SkyBoth Sides Of The Sky presents 13 studio recordings including 10 which have never before been released. All but two of these studio recordings were made during a fertile period between January 1968 and 1970. Jimi's mastery and use of the studio as a proving ground for new songs resulted in a growing collection of extraordinary material. This album completes a trilogy of albums [with Valleys Of Neptune and People, Hell & Angels] presenting the best and most significant unissued studio recordings remaining in the Hendrix archive. The songs include fascinating alternate versions of Stepping Stone, Lover Man and Hear My Train A Comin' as well as recordings where Jimi is joined by special guests Johnny Winter and Stephen Stills. Both Sides Of The Sky was mixed by Eddie Kramer, the engineer for all of Hendrix's albums throughout the guitarist's lifetime, and produced by Janie Hendrix, Kramer and John McDermott.
Mannish Boy - The first ever studio session by the group Hendrix would christen as his Band Of Gypsys. Hendrix, Cox & Miles shared a love for the blues as this driving, uptempo reworking of Mannish Boy by Muddy Waters makes clear.
Lover Man - Just two weeks before their triumphant New Year's concerts at the Fillmore East in NYC [yielding both 1970's Band Of Gypsys and 2016's sequel Machine Gun], Hendrix gathered with Cox and Miles to cut this dynamic rendition of what had become a favorite concert staple.
Stepping Stone - A totally unique take on this Hendrix favorite, with Jimi showcasing both blues and country styled licks atop a relentless, galloping beat.
$20 Fine -Stephen Stills joined Jimi, Mitch Mitchell and Buddy Miles Express keyboardist Duane Hitchings at this September 1969 session. With Stephen handling lead vocals and organ, Jimi added multiple guitar parts to this rollicking Stills original.
Power Of Soul - This 1970 studio session came three weeks after the Band Of Gypsys concerts at the Fillmore East. While a live version remains one of the highpoints of Band Of Gypsys, Jimi never released a studio version during his lifetime. For this album, we present the mix that Hendrix and Kramer prepared of the complete song at Electric Lady on August 22, 1970.
Jungle - The influence of Curtis Mayfield can be heard here as Jimi expands on the Villanova Junction Blues theme he made famous by its inclusion in the 1970 Woodstock documentary.
Things I Used To Do - Jimi is joined for this rendition of Guitar Slim's blues classic by Johnny Winter. Jimi's trademark guitar work and Winter's deft slide playing weaves in and around the foundation set by bassist Billy Cox and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young drummer Dallas Taylor.
Georgia Blues - Jimi reunited with some old friends from his pre-Experience days. Lonnie Youngblood, with whom Hendrix played in R&B groups like Curtis Knight & The Squires, voiced this superb twelve bar blues neatly underpinned by Hendrix's sublime rhythm and lead guitar work.
Sweet Angel - With Axis: Bold As Love only just released, Jimi immediately turned his focus to recording what would become Electric Ladyland. This gorgeous, instrumental reading of Angel,, features Jimi on guitar, bass and vibraphone joined by Mitch Mitchell.
Woodstock - Stephen Stills came to this session fresh from having visited Joni Mitchell, who had a new song that Stills was excited to try and record. Long before CSNY's version, Stephen, Jimi and Buddy Miles recorded this amazing rendition.
Send My Love To Linda - A superb new Hendrix original composition recorded with Cox and Miles in the aftermath of their successful Band Of Gypsys performances at the Fillmore East.
Cherokee Mist - Together with drummer Mitch Mitchell, Jimi created this moody, evocative original complete with his playing of a sitar to complement his traditional electric guitar.1. Mannish Boy

You And Me (Discontinued)You & Me is Kevin Barker's debut album, released by Gnomonsong. Though it's his first solo release under his own name, Barker's no newcomer to the scene--he's spent the last few years recording, touring, and collaborating with Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, Vashti Bunyan, Vetiver, Antony and the Johnsons, and Espers, to name just a few. Essentially acting as everyone's favorite sideman, Barker has influenced and helped create a sound with which this generation is happily familiar. During his college days, Barker became interested in the finger-style guitar playing of John Fahey and Bert Jansch and began to record under the name Currituck County. This solo project (sometime a duo with Vetiver / Espers drummer Otto Hauser) recorded albums for Teenbeat Records, Troubleman Unlimited, and the UK's Track and Field Organisation. Now Barker has assembled an unbelievable group of musicians for You & Me. Produced by Thom Monahan (Vetiver, Lilys, Gary Louris, Devendra Banhart), the album features Pat Sansone (Wilco), Joanna Newsom, Jonathan Wilson (Elvis Costello, Jenny Lewis), Eric Johnson (Shins, Fruit Bats), and Otto Hauser (Vetiver, Espers). Full of sunny, rural country rock, You & Me recalls the rustic grooves of The Band and The Grateful Dead, the heady melancholy of Roy Harper, and the golden harmonies of CSNY.1. Little Picture of You

Just Roll Tape: April 26, 1968 (Out Of Stock)Remastered from the Original Analog Tapes by Kevin Grey at Acoustech and Pressed on 180g RTI Vinyl! True Audiophile-Quality!
A moment in rock & roll history, unearthed! In April of 1968, after leaving Buffalo Springfield, but before joining CSN, Stephen Stills found himself in a New York recording session with then girlfriend Judy Collins. Stills wandered down the hall with an engineer and an acoustic guitar, and laying down a couple hundred-dollar bills, told the engineer Just roll tape. What he recorded in the ensuing hours was the first ever versions of what would become classics for Stephen Stills, CSN, CSNY and Manassas. Almost 40 years later the tapes, rescued decades ago from a garbage bin, are finally remastered and being released to the public. It's Time (Out Of Stock)Jimmy D. Lane's guitar playing will knock you over. His control of his guitar, from the most delicate tonal nuances to the flashiest, fastest licks, is almost superhuman. Only the most masterful guitar players can command their instruments this way, and all the practice in the world can't develop it. Jimmy D. Lane is a natural-born guitar monster. - Bob Margolin, guitarist in the Muddy Waters Band for seven years
It's Time could just as well have been titled It's Overdue. It's long been time for one of today's most powerful and expressive musicians to break the chains of relative commercial obscurity. Time to seize the reins of blues leadership, just as his father, Jimmy Rogers, did in the 1940s. Masters Eddie Kramer (engineer for Hendrix, Zeppelin, Woodstock etc.), Chris Whipper Layton and Tommy Shannon (of Double Trouble) and Mike Finnigan (organ in the bands of Etta James, Taj Mahal and CSN&Y) are all onboard to give Jimmy the nudge he needs to clear the launching pad. It's Time.
Just wanted to let you know how much Frank and I are enjoying Jimmy D. Lane's new CD - It's Time. It is truly wonderful! We are looking forward to experiencing the Blues Masters concert in Oct. Take care and thanks so much for such a hauntingly awesome CD. Please convey to him that we are hoping not to wear out the CD we enjoy it so much. - Peggy Ulasek, Maryland
Lane's certainly got the goods. The guitarist and singer - he plays bass and drums, too, on a pair of tracks - wrote all but one of the disc's 12 songs. And he's got a knack for mixing Hendrix- and Vaughan-influenced contemporary blues with old-school roots learned from his father...what makes It's Time a fun listen is its textural variety...Kramer's production offers a bright, modern sound that still has the warm feel of live performance. He and Lane keep the set tightly focused...For Jimmy D. Lane, now's as good a time as any. - Michael Cote, Blues Revue, February/March 2005
