    Mixed Up (Pre-Order)

    Release Date: June 22, 2018*

Half-Speed Mastered By Robert Smith And Tim Young At Metropolis Studios, London

Pressed On 180-Gram Vinyl And Housed In A Gatefold Sleeve

With the Disintegration album and its accompanying global Prayer Tour, 1989 had delivered a triumphant end to the 80s, but the first year of the 90s found The Cure unexpectedly unsettled.

Determined to keep up the momentum of the band's ongoing success, but knowing there were internal tensions to address before heading back into the studio, Robert Smith decided on a different course of action; curating an album of the band's rarer 12" mixes. As work on Mixed Up progressed, Smith realised that some of The Cure's earlier remixes didn't stand up to the newer ones.

Robert singles out Brian 'Chuck' New's dub style remix of Pictures Of You as the one that inspired him to take a more adventurous path. That mix turned the music on its head, but at the same time left the essential heart of the song intact. As soon as I heard it, I updated the entire Mixed Up plan. My revised ambition was to compile an album that was contemporary without being dated, immediate without being obvious, musically inspiring, rhythmically exciting and sonically great!

Two tracks on the album, A Forest and The Walk, were not just remixed but entirely re-recorded, as the multi-track tapes for both songs had long been lost. Both songs were reconstructed in the studio with producer Mark Saunders, using original instruments and gear.

The band convened over five days in June 1990 to record a new track for Mixed Up. After a certain amount of fraught experimenting with beats, loops and sequenced bass lines, Smith decided to change the vibe. A demo entitled PhaseAGE that had previously been deemed 'too rock' was committed to tape as Never Enough and was released as a single in September 1990. The 'Closer Mix' of Close To Me soon followed this and both songs were accompanied by customarily deranged Tim Pope videos.

With Mixed Up finally released, Smith felt he could at last move on, confident in a re-energized and re-integrated band. The whole of 1990 was essentially spent emerging from the shadow of Disintegration, and we managed to do it in a creatively satisfying way; by the end of the year, I couldn't wait to start work on new songs for the next record.

Set for release on vinyl, the 2LP sets of 'Mixed Up' and 'Torn Down: Mixed Up Extras 2018' have been Half-Speed Mastered by Robert Smith and Tim Young at Metropolis Studios, London. They have been pressed on 180-gram vinyl and housed in Gatefold Sleeves.

Torn Down is a 2018 remix album by British alternative rock band The Cure, and a sequel to the 1990 remix album Mixed Up.

The project was first originally announced in 2009, with Robert Smith saying in 2012 that the double album would consist of our favorite bands remixing Cure songs but the final product instead features sixteen new mixes done by Smith himself, selecting one song from each album in chronological order.

    Worship

Guitars as jet engines; guitars as haunted electronics; guitars as filling-melting white heat: A Place To Bury Strangers' new album Worship is explosive, visceral, and dark. APTBS' DIY-braintrust of Death By Audio wizard Oliver Ackermann and bassist Dion Lunadon continue the evolution of songwriting that began with Onwards to the Wall, the band's 2011 EP.

Now on Worship, they interweave threads of krautrock, dream-pop, and '80s goth without ever losing the edge that is quintessentially A Place To Bury Strangers. Unhinged dissonance is artfully framed within a fiercely dynamic and assured melodic sensibility. Standout You Are The One is a coldwave white squall, with Ackerman coming through like an austere and menacing Damo Suzuki. Later on Dissolved, the band methodically builds an atmospheric battle charge only to take a hard left mid-song into pure, shimmering Cure territory. There are ambitious, trend-bucking choices at every turn.

This album was written, recorded, mixed and mastered by A Place To Bury Strangers. It is our vision of what our music should sound like in 2012, not someone else's interpretation, says Lunadon. Every sound on the album is made by us and our tools; tools created by us, used on no other recordings, and purposefully built for this project. This is real. Some of it is the band being in complete control; bending, shaping and building the songs and the sounds. Other parts are the band relinquishing control and letting the songs and sounds take over and produce themselves. We are not trying to reinvent ourselves, but simply push ourselves further in all aspects of our music.

We made this, we recorded this, we did everything, adds Ackerman. Yes, we chose to do this and no, we didn't have to but we think it is pretty cool. No producer made us. We didn't go to school for any of this and we don't have time for tutorials. We invented this and now we are sharing it with you.

    Deadpool Soundtrack

180 Gram Red / Black Starburst Vinyl

Deadpool is the smash hit superhero film based on the popular Marvel comic book character by the same name. Starring Ryan Reynolds (Smokin' Aces, Safe House) as the titular protagonist, Deadpool follows irreverent mercenary Wade Wilson into Vancouver's seedy underbelly. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Wade is subjected to sadistic experiments in an attempt to cure himself. The treatment hideously deforms him and leaves his mind unhinged. Enraged by betrayal, Wade adopts the moniker of Deadpool and begins hunting down the men responsible for his transformation.

Junkie XL (Mad Mad: Fury Road, Divergent) delivers a robust, pulsing score that is as energetic and relentless as Deadpool himself. It ties in seamlessly with the eclectic mix of songs featured prominently in the film, including tracks by DMX, Wham!, and Salt-N-Pepa. Following an incredible $150 million opening weekend, Milan Records is proud to announce the release of the Deadpool soundtrack on vinyl! Pressed on a pair of red-black starburst 180 gram vinyl and packaged in a gatefold jacket, this double LP is not to be missed.

Stone Free - Jimi Hendrix Tribute

    Red & Purple Mixed Vinyl

Stone Free: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix (1993) was recorded by various artists in tribute to Jimi Hendrix. The artists were drawn from many genres of popular music. Contributors include his classic rock contemporaries Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, blues man Buddy Guy, classical violinist Nigel Kennedy, alternative pop/rock bands Belly and Spin Doctors, hip hop artists P. M. Dawn, among others.

According to the liner notes, the artists were encouraged to not only record one of their own personal favorites but to also place their stamp on Jimi's songs. Several artists recorded radically different interpretations, particularly, P. M. Dawn, The Cure, Nigel Kennedy and Pat Metheny. Some artists, on the other hand, recorded versions that were rather similar to the originals.

The band M.A.C.C. is made up of Mike McCready (guitarist from Pearl Jam), Jeff Ament (bassist from Pearl Jam), Matt Cameron (drummer for Soundgarden and later for Pearl Jam), and Chris Cornell (singer of Soundgarden and later Audioslave). The cover of Hey Baby (Land of the New Rising Sun) is their only known recording. All four members of this group had previously worked together on the Temple of the Dog project.

Eric Clapton's backing group on the title track includes the three original core members of Chic (Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards and Tony Thompson) and is the last recording on which all three played together.

    -FLOOD

Whilst Eagulls' debut album was a juggernaut of a record, often moving at breakneck speed and intensity, it was also a deeply melodic one and underneath the heady fuzz and gushing charge of the guitars laid a band with just as many pop leanings as they had punk. It's these moments that have been brought to the surface on the new record: dense, deeply textured explorations that recall the shimmering opulence of the Cocteau Twins and the ominous gloom of The Smiths and Disintegration/Pornography-era The Cure. Recorded during long days and nights in a converted Leeds Catholic church with returning producer Matt Peel before the album was sent to London to be mixed by Craig Silvey (Portishead, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, R.E.M), it's as refreshing as it is exhilarating to hear Eagulls' Ullages as they continue to forge a fierce and prominent British voice in the world of music.

This record is every bit as dazzling as it's predecessor but it comes along with that most rare and treasured quality of being so in a way that feels new, whilst simultaneously remaining in the existing character and tone of the band. Never has the term 'sophomore slump' been kicked so mercilessly to death as by Eagulls on this album.

Ranked 309/500 On Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time.

Although Jane's Addiction's 1987 self-titled debut was an intriguing release (few alternative bands at the time had the courage to mix modern rock, prog rock, and heavy metal together), it paled in comparison to their now classic major-label release one year later, Nothing's Shocking. Produced by Dave Jerden and Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell, the album was more focused and packed more of a sonic wallop than its predecessor; the fiery performances often create an amazing sense that it could all fall apart at any second, creating a fantastic musical tension. Such tracks as Up the Beach, Ocean Size, and one of alt-rock's greatest anthems, Mountain Song, contain the spaciousness created by the band's two biggest influences, Led Zeppelin and the Cure. Elsewhere, Ted, Just Admit It... (about serial killer Ted Bundy) and the haunting yet gorgeous Summertime Rolls stretched to epic proportions, making great use of changing moods and dynamics (something most alt-rock bands of the time were oblivious to). An incredibly consistent and challenging album, other highlights included the rockers Had a Dad and Pigs in Zen, the horn-driven Idiots Rule, the jazz instrumental Thank You Boys, and the up-tempo Standing in the Shower...Thinking. Like most great bands, it was not a single member whose contribution was greater: Perry Farrell's unique voice and lyrics, Dave Navarro's guitar riffs and wailing leads, Eric Avery's sturdy basslines, and one of rock's greatest and most powerful drummers, Stephen Perkins. Nothing's Shocking is a must-have for lovers of cutting-edge, influential, and timeless hard rock.

    Hair Of The Dog

Hair of the Dog is the sixth studio album by the Scottish hard rock band Nazareth, released in 1975. The album was recorded at Escape Studios, Kent, United Kingdom with additional recording and mixing at AIR Studios, London, and is the band's biggest selling album, having sold two million copies worldwide.

After three albums with Deep Purple's Roger Glover producing, Manny Charlton stepped into that position, one he filled for several subsequent albums.
It was Nazareth's first big hit album (aside from the minor success of Razamanaz), including classics such as the title track, Love Hurts (on the US version, but not the Canadian/European, it replaced the original Guilty), Beggars Day and Please Don't Judas Me.

The album title is often considered to be a shortened form of the phrase describing a folk hangover cure, the hair of the dog that bit you. However, according to Dan McCafferty, the title is a play on heir of the dog, i.e. a son of a bitch. This was the title the band had intended for the album, but the label did not approve and had the name changed, although nearly a thousand album covers were printed. The original Heir of the Dog album covers are very rare and worth a small fortune to collectors. The title track is sometimes mistakenly called Son Of A Bitch because of its hook (now you're messin' with a son of a bitch).

    All Harm Ends Here

The Early Day Miners Good Time Band is back with another platter of Midwest post-goth. Having already introduced their new rhythm section (Matt Griffin on drums and Jonathan Richardson on bass) to the world over the course of their last two tours, with All Harm Ends Here Early Day Miners have combined the lushness of their second album Let Us Garlands Bring with the conciseness of their last full-length Jefferson At Rest. Moreso than on any of their previous efforts, EDM take both musical and tonal cues from the principal architects of the 80's sad-as-hell dark underground - Echo & the Bunnymen, the Church, early-the Cure, and most notably the Bauhaus/Tones On Tail/Love And Rockets axis. While contemporaries like Bedhead and Interpol have mined primarily the darkest aspects of these long shadows, there lies in Early Day Miners' method an innate sense of hope that transcends even their darkest themes (decay, suicide, desertion). Perhaps this is most evident in the guitar interplay of long-time collaborators Dan Burton (Ativin) and Joseph Brumley. Arpeggios abound, the works of Roger McGuinn and The Edge come to mind in that there is a sense of hopefulness and sublimation which drives the songs to a better place. While the album is filled with death and ghosts of all sorts, its unifying theme is the individual's ability to escape the death and ghosts. Even the making of the album (which was done just outside of the band's hometown of Bloomington, Indiana, on the outskirts of Hoosier National Forest) was plagued by ghosts and phantoms. Recorded at the Old Mt. Gilead Church - recently revamped into a recording studio and still immediately surrounded on three sides by a dozen acres of 150-year old cemetery - principal tracking for All Harm Ends Here was halted for days at a time on multiple occasions when inexplicable flutter infected the reels of tape, almost requiring EDM to relocate its principal tracking altogether. Mixing and overdubbing was done at Burton's own Grotto Home Studio in an effort to evade those ghosts in the machine which possessed Old Mt. Gilead. While the Early Day Miners don't make flashy music, their layered music rewards the repeat listener. If you listen closely enough, in fact, you can hear ghosts in the distance.

A metallic rush of guitars and thundering drums, Deftones' music both epitomizes the hard-and-fast glory of post-grunge alt-metal and blows it wide open with innovation. As the Northern California-bred quintet evolved through a string of acclaimed albums and incessant, high-velocity touring, they also incorporated modern rock influences including The Cure and The Smiths into their Soundgarden/Tool/Rage Against the Machine/Pantera-inspired sonics. Now Maverick's new compilation sheds light on lesser-known output with covers, unreleased mixes, video B-Roll, and other choice rarities.

Brave Murder Day (Out of Stock)

Originally released in 1996, second album Brave Murder Day is a true classic.

The primitive structures and melodies give this album an unparalleled trance-like quality, by taking an early Paradise Lost influence (mixed with others such as Kent and Slowdive) and forming a completely unique sound and atmosphere.

The majority of the vocal duties were carried out in his signature death-growl style by Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth, while Jonas Renkse delivered the clean vocal passages, that he is known for today, on the ethereal track, Day (also showing their broad influence by acts such as The Cure). Jonas also played drums on the album.

Brave Murder Day was recorded at Unisound, Sweden, in July 1996, and was engineered by Dan Swanö (Opeth, Marduk, Dark Funeral, Dissection & among many others).
