    Keep It Hid

Nonesuch Records releases Keep It Hid, the solo debut from singer/songwriter/guitarist Dan Auerbach, best known as half of The Black Keys. While working on and touring in support of The Black Keys most recent album, Attack & Release, Auerbach also was writing songs that would become Keep It Hid. This record is a mixture of things I like to listen to, psychedelia, soul music, country harmonies, says Auerbach. In February Auerbach will begin a national tour with performances in New York City, Boston and Washington, DC. Opening acts for the tour will include Those Darlins and Hacienda, the latter also lending support as Auerbachs backing band.

Keep It Hid was produced and engineered by Auerbach at his studio, Akron Analog and features him playing a variety of instruments, including drums, guitar, percussion and keyboards. Many of Auerbachs friends and family play on the album, including his uncle James Quine, who contributes vocal harmony and electric guitar on the track Street Walkin. Other musicians include fellow Ohioans Jessica Lea Mayfield, who sings on the track When the Night Comes, and Bob Cesare, who plays drums on Whispered Words, a song originally written by Auerbachs father. Of the recording process Auerbach states, I wanted a live, organic sound. Nothing was too plotted or planned, just a lot of spontaneity. The record was mixed by Auerbachs good friend Mark Neill at Neills Soil of the South studio.

With his Black Keys bandmate Patrick Carney, Auerbach has recorded five critically acclaimed full-length albums, beginning with 2002s The Big Come Up. In 2008, Attack & Release debuted on the Billboard Top 200 chart at #14, marking The Black Keys highest position to date. The New York Times called it a savage, bitter concoction built on a snarling punk-rock riff, while the Los Angeles Times called it without doubt the Keys most dynamic effort yet. Auerbach also has been busy with his own record label, Polymer Sounds, for which he produced the 2008 debut from Jessica Lea Mayfield, With Blasphemy, So Heartfelt; Pitchfork praised Mayfields album as fascinating and endlessly listenable.

    South Of Nowhere

Spanish Gold, which features drummer Patrick Hallahan (My Morning Jacket), guitarist Adrian Quesada (formerly of Grupo Fantasma) and guitarist and lead vocalist Dante Schwebel (City and Colour, formerly of Hacienda), release their debut album South of Nowhere on BMG/Del Mar Records.

Produced by the trio along with Collin Dupuis (JEFF the Brotherhood, Bombino), South of Nowhere was recorded by Dupuis at Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Studio in Nashville and at Lalaland in Louisville. Additional recording was done with Jim Eno (Spoon, Poliça) at Public Hi-Fi in Austin and Sam Patlove (The Octopus Project) at Big Orange in Austin.

Of making the new album, Schwebel comments, "We kept finding that we had a lot of the same reference points during the recording. It became evident that we were still children of the MTV era.

We grew up with MTV when it was still a music channel. The way that the programming crossed genres from R&B to hip hop, rock, soul and pop music is how we approach records. It's an album of all those styles. Like watching a random hour of MTV programming circa 1986-1996. It's a nod to Michael Jackson, Dr. Dre, Madonna, the Beastie Boys or Tom Petty, all with a Texas border town setting. It all adds up to a fun listen that you can keep on repeat."

    Alone

The Pretenders are set to release their first album in eight years, Alone, via BMG. Recorded in Nashville and originally intended as a solo follow-up to 2014's 'Stockholm', it soon became obvious that those driving guitars, ragged but righteous arrangements, tough yet tender lyrics delivered by the most beautifully distinctive voice of a generation, sounded fantastically familiar. The Pretenders were back. 36 years after their remarkable first album, 'Alone' could be the older, wiser, badder sister to that exhilarating debut.

Chrissie Hynde recorded the album in Nashville with Dan Auerbach, from The Black Keys, who stood as captain, producer and multi-instrumentalist on the record, an album which sees Chrissie at her searingly honest, most incisive best.

The full band joining Chrissie and Dan on the album features Johnny Cash's former bass player Dave Roe and country rocker Kenny Vaughan on guitar plus sundry members of Dan Auerbach's side project The Arcs: Richard Swift, drums, Leon Michels, keyboards and Russ Pahl providing sly curlicues of pedal steel. The album was mixed by Tchad Blake (Arctic Monkeys, Peter Gabriel, Elvis Costello). Duane Eddy also features on the punchy 'Never Be Together'.

Of the new album Chrissie Hynde said the following: "This record is what I love the most - real people playing real music. I sang and recorded every vocal in a 48 hour period - 48 hours to sing them, 40 years of preparation!"

    Goin' Platinum

And now we have Goin' Platinum!, the newest effort from the soon-to-be legendary soul singer Robert Finley and his crack band of geniuses. From the lovelorn bombast of If You Forget My Love to the soul-stirring Medicine Woman, and the home-on-the-road ripper Empty Arms to the yearning Honey Let Me Stay the Night, all capped by the epic closer Holy Wine, featuring Finley's ethereal falsetto, Finley's performance left Dan Auerbach speechless-as it will anyone who lays ears to it.

As for the album title, Dan Auerbach gives all credit to Finley and his huge but wholly considerate personality. He was just beaming from the second he walked in the door, Auerbach says. Every time he'd listen to playback, he'd say, 'It's goin' platinum.' That was his catch phrase.

    Attack & Release

Until now, guitarist-singer Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney of the Black Keys took an extreme do-it-yourself approach to record making, hunkering down in a basement studio or setting up equipment in one of the abandoned factories of their native Akron, Ohio. Their modus operandi was more seance than session. With a minimal set of tools, they conjured up a big, swaggering blues-rock sound, seemingly drawn from some distant time and place yet too weirdly original to ever be called retro. As Rolling Stone put it in a review of their 2006 Nonesuch debut, Magic Potion, Pure blues rock of this caliber is really timeless.

For this album, however, the Black Keys decided not to go it alone: Attack and Release is the result of one of the most audacious and eagerly awaited collaborations in alternative rock history. As producer, Auerbach and Carney chose Danger Mouse, the mega-eclectic sonic mastermind behind the Grammy Award-winning Gnarls Barkley's St. Elsewhere and its multi-format hit, Crazy, as well as the music-industry provocateur who created the mother of all mash-ups, The Grey Album. The Black Keys also deigned to work at an established studio, albeit one within driving distance of Akron. Suma Recording, a legendary spot in northeast Ohio renowned for its supply of great vintage gear, provided just the right ambience for the guys. As Carney put it, with genuine affection, Suma smells like a moldy cabin and looks like a haunted house.

On Attack and Release, Danger Mouse is more creative co-conspirator than traditional figure behind the boards. He doesn't radically alter the duo's sound so much as coax out more of its inherent soulfulness, groove and bittersweet emotion. Two versions of Remember When illustrate how the duo can swing easily from smoldering ballad to thrashing rocker. I'm more pleased with the sound of this record than any one we've ever made, says Carney, and Auerbach concurs: We never let it all go like we did for this one, anything was game. It was just fun to make, and that's why I think it's so successful. The band adds more instrumentation to their mix, including piano, organ and moog synthesizer. Danger Mouse fashions subtle special effects, like the ghostly background choir that surfaces on the moody I Got Mine, which sounds as if it were samples from some old Warner Bros. cartoon. The Black Keys also invited in a few special guests: guitarist Marc Ribot and clarinetist-flautist (and Pat's uncle) Ralph Carney, both veterans of Tom Waits' band and players on countless avant-rock/jazz/noise session. Jessica Lea Mayfield a/k/a Chittlin, an impressive 18 year-old bluegrass/country singer from Kent, Ohio, sings alongside a heart-breakingly plaintive Auerbauch on the slow-dance final cut, Things Ain't Like They Used to Be

    Red Vinyl

Big Red and Barbacoa is the second album by South Texas' Hacienda, and like its predecessor Loud Is The Night (Alive 2008), it has been produced at the Akron Analog Studio by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys.
Recorded on the tail end of a year of playing at clubs and festivals across North America, Australia, and Europe, opening for Dan Auerbach and Dr. Dog, this new album brings heavier grooves and flavor to the '60s harmonies sound the band is known for. The result is a blend of Tex-Mex roots rock, retro-pop and R&B that can only be described as South Texas Soul. Big Red and Barbacoa captures the attitude of a band ready to throw pretension to the roadside and play rock'n'roll the way it was intended.

For her hotly anticipated sophomore album Nashville
songstress Nikki Lane teamed up with Dan Auerbach
of the Black Keys for a record that turns the vulnerable
singer-songwriter stereotype on its ears. With songs
that crucify ex-boyfriends, celebrate one-night stands
(as long as she can bolt town right after) and proclaim
it's "always the right time to do the wrong thing," Lane
comes across like a modern-era Wanda Jackson, albeit
with more oats to sow. "My songs always paint a pretty

Recorded at Black Keys guitarist/vocalist Dan Auerbach's East Eye Sound Studios in Nashville, Paradise, the Wood Brothers' Honey Jar Records-issued fifth studio long-player and follow-up to 2013's The Muse, is their first outing to be written by all three members of the trio, Oliver Wood, Chris Wood, and Jano Rix. It's also the first set of recordings from the group to feature bassist Chris Wood swapping out his upright for an electric four-string, but plugging in has done little to dampen the trio's penchant for crafting experimental yet always emotionally resonant slabs of funk-tinged folk and jazz-inflected Americana blues.

Tell Me I'm Pretty was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys & The Arcs. With this record, we wanted to be more transparent, said lead singer Matt Shultz. We wanted to capture the sentiment of each song, and whatever emotional response it provoked, to be really honest to that. The results are the band's most forceful and focused songs yet. In the summer of 2015, Brian Burton (aka Danger Mouse) announced details about 30th Century Records, his imprint in collaboration with Columbia Records. The first release that comes from the world-renowned artist, songwriter, and producer is 30th Century Records Compilation Volume I, featuring eleven tracks of guitar-based brilliance.

A psychedelic mosaic with international scope, 30th Century Records Compilation Volume I, touches both future and classic sounds from the sun-drenched shores of Brazil to to the murky depths of Glasgow. Dan Auerbach's blistering riffage in The Arcs, and Autolux's arty experimentalism are featured alongside Sam Cohen's rough-hewn authenticity and emotive rockers from newcomers like Nine Pound Shadow and Waterstrider. Compiled by Danger Mouse, this album finds guitar music alive and well from the garage to the depths of space.

"There's a road that goes out of every town. All you've got to do is
get on it," Pete Bernhard says.

The Devil Makes Three's travels and travails serve as inspiration for their
fourth album and their New West Records debut, I'm a Stranger Here,
produced by Buddy Miller and recorded at Dan Auerbach's (Black Keys)
Easy Eye Sound Studio in Nashville.

With upright bassist Lucia Turino and guitarist Cooper McBean, guitarist/
singer Pete Bernhard crafted a dozen tunes, part road songs, part
heartbreak songs and part barnburners. While most bands are propelled
from behind by a drummer, TDM3 builds exuberant rhythms from the
inside out, wrapping finger-picked strings and upsurging harmonies
around chugging acoustic guitar and bass, playing an ever-growing
audience onto its feet to jump, shake and waltz.

    Rod For Your Love

On his newest record, Rod For Your Love, he gets back to basics. Produced by Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach and recorded in Nashville, Rod For Your Love roots itself in old-school, guitar-fueled rock & roll. These are love songs built for the garage and the dance floor, with big-hearted melodies and thick harmonies. It's the stuff you might've heard in the 1960s, back when groups like the Kinks and the Velvet Underground were making left-field pop songs that celebrated the form while still bending the rules. With stacked vocal harmonies that sweep their way throughout the track list, Rod For Your Love nods to the past while still moving forward. It's a classic-sounding album that still belongs to the 21st century.

    Locked Down

Storied musician and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dr. John (aka Mac Rebennack) releases Locked Down, a startling album that marks a significant departure from his recent efforts. The new album, produced by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, is Dr. John's first for Nonesuch Records.

Its an entirely new approach for the iconic Dr. John, featuring as it does his collaboration with Auerbach and a band of young musicians Auerbach hand-picked to make Locked Down at his studio Easy Eye Sound in Nashville. It was way cool cutting this record with Dan and the crew he put together for it, says Rebennack. It's reel HIP.

For his part, Auerbach says about the collaboration: Mac inspired me every single day we were in the studio together: musically, spiritually, cosmically, something special seemed to be happening and everyone involved could sense it. For my money, Mac's one of the greatest who ever was and who ever will be, I'm so honored to have had this opportunity to work with him.

Auerbach, a long-time fan of the influential musician, dubbed the Night Tripper in the late 60s, visited Dr. John late in 2010 in his hometown of New Orleans, announcing his ambition to produce the best record you've made in a long time. Rebennack replied that he had done his research, his children had told him good things about The Black Keys, and the conversation led to an agreement to collaborate on the 2011 Bonnaroo Jam being curated by Auerbach.

That performance, called by New York Times critic Ben Ratliff in his best-of-the-year list deep and oozy, close-to-the-vest, low-frequency funk, confirmed that something unusual was taking place and led to September recording sessions in Nashville. Dr. John returned to Nashville at Thanksgiving to complete the vocals and Locked Down was mixed by Auerbach and completed in early 2012.

    Thickfreakness

Akron, Ohio's Black Keys offer crunchy, riff-heavy blues-rock that is remarkably rich and textured, particularly when one considers that they are merely a duo. Continuing in the vein of their 2002 debut, The Big Come Up, this sophomore album leavens their garage blues with enough innovation to keep things interesting, taking full advantage of Dan Auerbachs full-throated growl. Particularly appealing are Hard Row, which lurks somewhere between Cream and punk rock, the strong stomp of Everywhere I Go, and the irresistible guitar riff that graces If You See Me. The Black Keys might be covering familiar territory, but they do it so well--and with so much invention--that one is inclined to yield it to them and see what they do with it.

    Turn Blue

The Black Keys' 2014 album, Turn Blue, was released on Nonesuch Records.
Produced by Danger Mouse, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, Turn Blue features 11
tracks including the first single, "Fever."

Turn Blue was recorded at Sunset Sound in Hollywood during the summer of 2013 with
additional recording done at the Key Club in Benton Harbor, MI and Auerbach's Easy Eye
Sound in Nashville in early 2014. Of the new album, the band says Turn Blue could refer to:

    A: Suffocation

    B: Sadness

    C: Numbness from extreme cold

D: A Cleveland late night TV host from the 1960s named Ghoulardi

    E: All of the above

Moreover, Carney comments, "We are always trying to push ourselves when we make a
record-not repeat our previous work but not abandon it either. On this record, we let the songs
breathe and explored moods, textures and sounds. We're excited for the world to hear Turn
    Blue."

This is the eighth full-length album from the duo and follows 2011's critically and commercially
acclaimed El Camino, which is now certified RIAA Platinum. Internationally, El Camino is Gold
in Belgium, Spain, Italy and Holland; Platinum in Ireland, France and the U.K.; and double
Platinum in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. The record also resulted in three awards at the
55th annual Grammy Awards-Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Album.
The band now has a total of six Grammy Awards including three in 2010 for their breakout,
    RIAA Platinum album, Brothers.
