    Christine Perfect (Pure Pleasure)

In 1976, Sire Records issued the first U.S. release of what had been a mega-import of the Blue Horizon 1970 U.K. release, an album called simply Christine Perfect, the maiden name of Christine McVie. You don't need a crystal ball to tell you the album is classic and tremendous - the big surprise is that it didn't go multi-platinum in the States. There are 12 tracks, and I'd Rather Go Blind went Top Ten in the U.K. It deserved to, but there's more here than the very good reading of the Etta James hit that I'd Rather Go Blind was. When You Say has strings and production that sound hauntingly like a Marianne Faithful track on London or Nico's work on Immediate.

    Musicians:

    • Christine Perfect (keyboards)

    • Rick Hayward, Top Topham, Danny Kirwan (guitar)

    • Martin Dunsford, John McVie, Andy Sylvester (bass)

    • Chris Harding (drums, percussion)

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

The Pious Bird of Good Omen (Speakers Corner)

After the break-up of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers in the summer of 1967, the time seemed ripe for Peter Green, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood to take their leave from raw British rock 'n' roll. The newly established band Fleetwood Mac first turned to black blues, and their art of playing was so similar to that of other groups that the magazine Eye criticised them for their »almost ridiculous mimicry«. However, their choice of performance style took them in the right direction and in 1969, the year in which The Pious Bird Of Good Omen appeared, they landed at the top end of the pop charts, even ahead of The Beatles and Stevie Wonder.

Of course, in the cover version of Little Willie John's Need Your Love So Bad, which is treated with a velvety string sound, and other bluesy songs, the American influence still makes itself heard, but not without success! The highly individual sound of the group comes best through in the now legendary numbers such as the weightless, gliding Albatross and Black Magic Woman with its Latin and blues elements. Judged the best British blues ever to be played (allmusic.com), one can now sit back and enjoy this great album.

    Musicians:

    • Peter Green (guitar, vocal)

    • Jeremy Spencer (guitar, piano, vocal)

    • Danny Kirwan (guitar)

    • Eddie Boyd (piano, vocal)

    • Big Walter Horton (harmonica)

    • John McVie (bass)

    • Mick Fleetwood (drums)

    The Fact Facer

Holy Sons is at the center of his many musical personalities and is his longest standing project, acting as an outlet for some of his most personal and direct songs. In Holy Sons, Amos puts his restless imagination to work using a variety of inventive home recording methods to turn melodic slow-burners into multi-layered, atmospheric missives. While his methods and prolificacy provide a kinship with Sebadoh, Ariel Pink and other musicians who have offered countless transmissions from their bedroom floor, Holy Sons comes from the mind of someone who has internalized the minutia of 70s rock music and eschews the stereotypical lo-fi sound for a much deeper and more varied palate. The Fact Facer, his Thrill Jockey debut, bathes Amos' thoughtful, and even at times philosophical, songs in technicolor darkness, and reinforces Holy Sons as his musical centerpiece.

The songs on The Fact Facer creep up on the listener, their fiercely addictive melodies unraveling slowly and purposefully. Jumping smoothly between many facets of Amos' songwriting, the album does much to establish him as a talented multi-instrumentalist. From the lysergic leads of "Selfish Thoughts"" to the Danny Kirwan referencing solos of "Transparent Powers" and the skillful acoustic flourishes of "The Fact Facer," Amos proves himself as adept and creative a guitarist as he is a drummer. It is telling that Amos has built up two Holy Sons bands simultaneously: one based in Portland and one based in New York. Wherever the wind takes him, there are musicians willing to pick up their instruments and follow his lead.

Amos currently resides in Brooklyn, where he recorded the majority of The Fact Facer. He plans to tour throughout the fall, solo and with one of his two backing bands.

Live Recordings Of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac

Boston - Volume 1 is an Double LP which collects live recordings
from an earlier era of the band's colourful history. The set features
the classic blues line-up of Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green, Danny Kirwan, John McVie and Jeremy Spencer.

Originally recorded at the Boston Tea Party venue over three nights
in February 1970, for a planned release later the same year, these
recordings were left in the can, unissued, following leader Peter
Green's sudden decision to leave the band a few weeks after the
dates. Tracks from the shows were eventually released in various
forms in the mid-80s but these releases were blighted by poor
sound sources. The discovery of the original 8-track tapes and a
number of previously unreleased tracks in the late 90s allowed the
material to be re-mixed, re-mastered, and substantially overhauled for
    vinyl release.

    1. Black Magic Woman
    2. Jumping At Shadows

Re-Mastered Vintage Live Recordings From The Original Tapes Of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac

In 2013 Fleetwood Mac embarked on a massive world tour. The dates so far saw the band
playing sold-out shows to huge arena crowds and created another surge of interest in this
    much-loved band.

June 10th 2014 sees Madfish release Fleetwood Mac's Boston Volume 2 as a gatefold 2LP
set which collects live recordings from an earlier era of the band's colourful history. The set
features the classic blues line-up of Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green, Danny Kirwan, John McVie
    and Jeremy Spencer.

Originally recorded at the Boston Tea Party venue over three nights in February 1970, for a planned release later the same year, these recordings were left in the can, unissued, following leader Peter Green's sudden decision to leave the band a few weeks after the dates. The discovery of the original 8-track tapes and a number of previously unreleased tracks in the late 90s allowed the material to be re-mixed, re-mastered, and substantially overhauled for release, and Boston Volume 2 follows on from the previous Madfish Records 3 CD set - Boston Volume 1 released in 2013. Introducing Boston Volume 2 is the floating "World in Harmony," the only Peter Green /Danny Kirwin co-written track in the Fleetwood Mac catalogue, and one that, has never appeared on a studio album. The Kirwin/Green interplay throughout the legendary live set is stunning as they push each other past previous limits, driven by the forceful rhythm section of John McVie and Mick Fleetwood.
This new set brings together all of these remastered recordings as a 2 LP set to present the
next instalment of these historic shows.
