Deal Or No Deal'
No Deal Remixed: Presented By Gilles PetersonInternationally renowned DJ and radio personality Gilles Peterson has called upon some of the most exciting names across the jazz, electronic and indie worlds to rework Melanie De Biasio's acclaimed album No Deal, including EELS, The Cinematic Orchestra, Hex, and Seven Davis Junior.
EELS haunting, orchestral reworking of opening track I Feel You is the first ever remix by Mark Oliver Everett (AKA E), who fell in love with De Biasio's music when she supported EELS at the Royal Albert Hall in June. The Cinemantic Orchestra give I'm Gonna Leave You an intense reworking, while beat maker C. Crisci, a.k.a Clap! Clap! gives the same track an afro-beat slant. Seven Davis Jr gives title-track No Deal an old school house flavour, while LA's Jonwayne coats With All My Love a lush balm of hip-hop. Japan's Toshio Matsuura (AKA Hex) adds an impressive urgency to The Flow, whilst France's modern classical composer Chassol provides a downtempo and discordant take on Sweet Darling Pain.1. The Cave Singers spend a good deal of time beyond the darkened edges of Seattle, in the mist and mystic, among the wolves and redwoods. And their songs, at least on record, have always been like beautiful, faded grayscale photos of this hinterland. Now, these photos are injected with hot blood and technicolor, a ferocity and bite weve yet to see from the band.
By all accounts, No Witch is The Cave Singers rock record. Laid to tape with dark wizard producer Randall Dunn (Black Mountain, Sunn O))), Boris), No Witch is grander and more lush than The Cave Singers previous efforts. Its also a nervier, scrappier affair: greasy guitars buck and rear up; Eastern-influenced blues snake through songs; gospel choirs rise up like tidal waves.
There are big, grinning nods to Beggars Banquet-era Stones, the best of Mellencamp (Clever Creatures) and the juke joint legends of Mississippi like Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside (Black Leaf and No Prosecution If We Bail). Of course, its all filtered through that particular, magical Cave Singers formula: Pete Quirks reedy, behind-the-beat delivery and existential wordplay, Derek Fudescos lyrical guitar runs and drummer Marty Lunds no nonsense rhythms.1.Gifts and the Raft

ADAD-NAP-8633xLife Of Agony
A Place Where There's No More PainLife Of Agony emerged from the New York music scene in the early ‚90s with one of the most distinctive
sounds in its genre. Best known for its 1993 metal/crossover debut River Runs Red, the band instantly
built a die-hard, cult following. For over two decades, the group toured relentlessly all over the world,
sharing stages with the biggest names in rock, including Metallica, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Foo
Fighters, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. After the much-praised Ugly (1995), LOA opted for a highly
energetic alternative rock approach on Soul Searching Sun (1997) and Broken Valley (2005) - the latter
produced by Greg Fidelman (Slipknot, Metallica). Life of Agony has sold over one million albums to date.
In 2016, LOA signed a deal with Napalm Records to record the group's 5th studio album, titled A Place
Where There's No More Pain. Rolling Stone hailed it as „One of the Most Anticipated Albums of the Year".
The album is produced by Matt Brown & Life Of Agony and mastered by Ted Jensen (Alice in Chains,
Machine Head, Deftones). The drive and intensity these ten blistering new tracks possess, surpass all
expectations that built up in the past 12 years - a cathartic Sturm & Drang experience for the listener that
matches the ferocity of River Runs Red with gut wrenching rock melodies. Raging guitar riffs, heartfelt
lyrics and killer grooves mark the return of LOA's signature sound and turn A Place Where There's No
More Pain into a passionate, soul-searching affair.
The highly emotional lyrics by singer Mina Caputo link all songs by the four-piece together, then and
now: born as Keith Caputo, she had her Transgender coming out in 2011, changed her name, but kept
her inimitable style of writing deeply from the heart. „And I just want to disappear and hide," she sings
and shines a light on the path of all lost souls - while steadily walking her own. „Many of our fans have
told us over the years that sharing our personal struggles has been cathartic for them in healing the pain
in their own lives. That uplifting energy we share at the shows, gives us hope that there's light at the end
of the tunnel. And for us and hopefully our fans, that short time when we're all together is a place where
there's no more pain."1. Meet My Maker

REDD-MOM-2216xJon Spencer Blues Explosion
Freedom Tower - No Wave Dance Party 2015New York City is a big place. A loud place. Some of that noise is music. And some of the music is noise.
Sucking it all in and turning it loose with prejudice, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion takes a ferocious bite out of the Big Apple with their new long-player, Freedom Tower - No Wave Dance Party 2015, the first record of the new era that demands to be stopped and frisked!
Like the best sides that percolated up from the Bronx, the Lower East Side, and Greenwich Village across the 1970s and '80s - Freedom Tower is more than a high-octane dance party record, it is a document of New York City, a chronicle of grit and terror and love!
It's all here: The Hustler and The Trust Fund Baby, the Mosh Pit Casualty, the Celebrity Chef, the Crooked Cop, the Struggling Artist, the Sucker MC, the forgotten Sex Workers and Last-Chance Cinderellas. Within these grooves are cold-water tenements, blue-chip galleries, dingy Avenue B studios, and the last real warrior poet whose dark magick brings garage rock ghosts back from the grave!
Freedom Tower is a radical portrait of New York City set to the savage funkacide of the Blues Explosion, locked and loaded with the most deadly, predatory guitar riffs that primitive magnetic tape can handle . From start to finish, Freedom Tower is overmodulated, cooked with dirt, and finished in acid rain! Freedom Tower is packed with the kind of beats and rhymes that will make even the most reserved Walter Mitty jump back and say "damn!"
For nearly a quarter-century the Blues Explosion have been sweating, freezing, eating, drinking, fucking, fighting, winning, and losing in New York City, perpetrating some of the most timeless moments of musical mayhem in the history of Manhattan and beyond. As ever, Jon Spencer tells the tales, Judah Bauer plays the blues, and Russell Simins smashes things to bits... And as always Blues Explosion stomp on the faux underground oasis peddled by bourgeois hipsters and marketing jocks to deliver the real deal - rock'n'roll that is unapologetically nasty and strong.
Rehearsed and polished in a string of secret gigs and unannounced opening slots in theaters, hotel bars, and dives (often under assumed names), and then recorded at the legendary Daptone House Of Soul in Bushwick and mixed with hip-hop cult legend Alap Momin at the cutting edge of Harlem, Freedom Tower is the most provocative statement of urban pathos and panache ever recorded.
Play this record at all-night rent parties, picnics, discotheques, and protests!

Can You Deal?Pressed On White Vinyl
Los Angeles-based sister duo Jennifer and Jessie Clavin knew things were going to be different for their band Bleached's sophomore LP Welcome The Worms. Not only had they managed to charm world renowned producer Joe Chiccarelli (Morrissey, The Strokes, Elton John) to join them and their bassist Micayla Grace in the studio, but the sisters had been crawling out of their own personal dramas. While emotionally spinning, they dove head first into music.
In the studio, Chiccarelli and co-producer Carlos de la Garza (Paramore, YACHT) helped the band perfect their fervent songs into fearlessly big pop melodies. They drew inspiration from the iconic hits of everyone from Fleetwood Mac to Heart to Roy Ayers. The result is an ambitious rock record with a new found pop refinement that somehow still feels like the Shangri-Las on speed, driven forward in a wind of pot and petals, a wall of guitars in the back seat.
After touring extensively worldwide and finding success with their hit single Wednesday Night Melody Bleached is back with four new blazing tracks on their Can You Deal? EP. Fueled by the experiences they've had as women in their calling for music, Can You Deal? takes on the complexities of issues female musicians encounter in an industry dominated by men. With this fire in their bellies, they connected with Alex Newport (Bloc Party, Mars Volta) to produce the EP. With their singularly triumphant mix of sunny melodies, thrashing guitars and lyrics highlighting the darker sides of life, Bleached continues to demand your attention.1. Can You Deal?

Sunset MotelBeginning with Millican, 1998's self-released debut, Reckless Kelly emblazoned a reputation as no-nonsense insurgents capable of raising the rafters while still retaining the heart, soul and sentiment that can only come from honesty, soul and conviction. With every album that followed - Under the Table and Above the Sun (2003), Wicked Twisted Road (2005), Bulletproof (2008), Somewhere in Time (2010), the Grammy-nominated Good Luck & True Love (2011) and the Grammy-winning Long Night Moon (2013) - they've affirmed that commitment, not only in their devotion to essential Americana, but by emulating its very definition as well. No individual or any ensemble, and certainly no poser or pretender better exemplify what that broad genre is all about than this band called Reckless Kelly.
Nowhere is that more evident that on the group's new album Sunset Motel, an effort that effectively sums up their strengths while marking a new milestone as well. It's been 20 years since the group's founding, and while they've had to fight for wider recognition, fans, critics and contemporaries have been quick to sing their praises.1. June GloomBig Deal might have become synonymous with the structurally sparse yet emotionally stinging guitar pop as showcased on their critically acclaimed debut "Lights Out", but get ready for a dramatic expansion of sound with their latest album "June Gloom". The London based duo of Kacey Underwood and Alice Costelloe, aka Big Deal, are set to release the new album on Mute in Summer 2013.
Last year's thunderous teaser 'teradactol' track, with its monstrous riffs and galloping drums was no red herring: on "June Gloom" Underwood and Costelloe flesh out their delicate, nocturnal tones with the help of a full band. Drums and bass take their sound to deeper, darker and more intoxicating heights, courtesy of producer Rory Attwell (Veronica Falls, PAWS, Male Bonding).
As a result, the 11 other tracks here are an exploration of the newfound confidence of 'teradactol', with a refinement and bold directness in singing and songwriting. Here, you'll find a re-imagination of the golden age of alternative-rock; crunching grunge pop anthems sitting neatly alongside shimmering love songs aching with weariness and longing. If Big Deal's earlier tracks felt emotionally lacerating, this new body of work is noisy, boisterous, with a more than assured melodic hook.
This evolution is made defiantly clear in the opener 'golden light', which deliberately wrongfoots the listener by opening with some sweetly strummed chords and interlocking vocals before building to a rousing climax. Similarly, 'dream machines' crests on a jagged undertow of pounding drums, and the sinister 'pillow' gradually opens up to become something vast, scorched and desolate. The pair infuse the volume with their own inimitable, off-kilter take on angst-ridden emotional terrain; on the aptly titled 'pristine', they sing, "darkness wash over me, I let it in, it let me be", while on the otherwise upbeat 'call and i'll come' Costelloe plaintively asks, "What if no one else compares/ what if no one else cares?".
It all reaches a beautiful crescendo with the finale 'close your eyes', which explodes from an almost unbearably intimate confessional ("I won't ask why/ if it was love/ we let it die") into a coruscating maelstrom that is as indelibly affecting as it is thrilling. With "June Gloom", Big Deal have expanded their sonic palette for sure, but they have certainly lost none of their potency.1 golden light

Lights OutWith the strum of an acoustic guitar set against the fuzzed out chords of an electric guitar and the tones of a boy / girl vocal, the London-based duo announced their arrival in the summer of last year. Since then Kacey Underwood and Alice Costelloe (aka Big Deal) have been making waves with their tales of teen angst and adult compromise.
Lights Out, co-produced by Underwood and Dean Reid, emerges from its bedroom beginnings as a collection of 12 deeply personal songs with universal appeal, innately tapping into the innocence, insecurity, wonder and (sometimes unrequited) love and lust of relationships. Over And EvenJoan Shelly's new album, Over And Even, was written in the back of an abandoned beauty parlor on the island of Thessaloniki. The whole thing had something to do with Vashti Bunyan. That's what Joan told me, but Joan Shelley is a poet, so she makes things up. In a small, dark room that smells of expired hair-do chemicals, there is talk of hypnosis. All the windows are blacked out. Look into my eyes. White walls are blinding in the ancient sunlight. A bowl of oranges shines like solid gold, waiting for you. There is a small classical guitar, a sunburn, and a key that turns a lock, and songs come pouring out. Maybe the Greek deal was really about Leonard Cohen. That's Joanie's jam: songs wide open enough to let the wind blow the curtains around, and solid enough to hang a ton of heartache on. She writes smart, beautiful songs full of poetry, history, mystery and nature. Like all the best sad songs, they will make you cry. Then they will drag you outside and leave you flat on your back, staring up at the stars. Joan lands on a note like a laser beam on a diamond. Colors fly around the room, and her voice bends between them. People say her voice reminds them of Sandy Denny. It's more than the vocal range. It's a quiet power that draws you in. Maybe Over And Even wasn't written last winter on a Greek island. Maybe these songs were written a hundred years ago in a farmhouse somewhere in Kentucky. That's where Joan is from, and that's where she and guitar player Nathan Salsburg recorded all the basic tracks live. All the people who played on Joan's new record -- and Daniel Martin Moore who recorded and engineered it -- are friends. That comes through somehow in the sound of the album. Will Oldham and Glen Dettinger are genius harmony singers. They leave the perfect amount of space for microscopic shifts in Joan's voice, without sacrificing their own awesome idiosyncrasies. Nathan Salsburg's guitar follows every twist of the melody. When the song breaks your heart in two, Nathan is there with a high E-string to sew it back together. Joan Shelley's voice flows out like a river. It never travels in a straight line. It follows bends and curves carved by history. We are all lucky just to be swept away, and go with her wherever she's going. But it's not over by half There's a gold in your eyes blooming out through the black And you're still standing, your hand on the map No its not over, not over by half the end.1. OutsidersBack in March Jesse Malin returned with his first album in five years, New York Before the War, a hymn to everything Malin believes in most: respecting your roots, grabbing the future by its throat, and creating a soundtrack for a life filled with meaning.
'Outsiders' meanwhile, recorded concurrently to that record is an altogether different beast.
And Jesse is no slouch when it comes to writing either - that album's 13 tracks were pared down from close to forty songs and post release it was apparent that there was a great deal of quality material left over. More significantly than that, Malin realized that the songs were thematically similar - "Outsiders is a record built out of optimism and disgust," says Jesse.
"It's autobiographical to the point where I even visit my own funeral! (laughs). I had recently cut ties with a lot of people and was really in my own dark bubble while we were recording it. We all made a deal to stay off the phone and the net during the making of this record, and it felt good to just live in the moment - we just let it roll."1. Outsiders

Big Beat From BadsvilleOn Linen Vinyl
As the Cramps approached their 20th anniversary, they showed no signs of changing their signature kitschy psychobilly style. In so many ways, Big Beat From Badsville is no different from its immediate predecessor, Flamejob, or any of the group's other records -- it's a collection of campy songs about sex, horror, violence, leather and perversion. Sonically, it's slightly rawer than Flamejob, and the group's performances are as inspired here as they are on any of their other '90s albums. And the songs are uniformly good, even if there aren't any standouts. So, Big Beat From Badsville is the kind of record that fans will be pleased with, but newcomers will just wonder what the big deal is.

Roll The Bones200 Gram Vinyl LP
From a lyrical perspective, 1991's Roll the Bones is quite possibly Rush's darkest album (most of the songs deal with death in no uncertain terms), but from a musical point of view, the record treads territory (highbrow melodic hard rock) similar to its recent predecessors, with only a few surprises thrown in for good measure. These include an amusing rap section in the middle of the title track, a welcome return to instrumentals with Where's my Thing?, and one of the band's finest songs of the '90s in the gutsy Dreamline. Neurotica is another highlight which lives up to its title, and though their negative subject matter can feel stifling at times, fine tracks like Bravado, The Big Wheel, and Heresy feature wonderful melodies and arrangements.1. Thinking In Textures2012 was an incredible year for singer/songwriter Chet Faker aka Nick Murphy. In March he played stand-out performances at SXSW, including a performance at the Filter Magazine party and was touted as a 'must see' act by The Austin Chronicle.
All of this momentum led to a record deal with Downtown Records who are set to drop his debut release Thinking In Textures. The 7-song set's first single Terms and Conditions is a gorgeously penned track that has been garnering airplay across the globe.
Hailing from Melbourne's tight-knit disco and house music scene and taking elements from his acoustic past, Chet Faker has carved out a unique style that fuses personal stories of love and loss with an electronica soul that reaches far beyond his homeland.
Shrouded in secrecy, hidden behind an alias and disguised by a beard, Chet Faker enjoys mystery. He came to everyone's attention when his cover of Blackstreet's classic No Diggity hit #1 on Hype Machine. But far from rushing into the limelight, Chet built on the popularity of No Diggity through a series of tracks released online, creating an insatiable hunger from fans for more from this part jazz, part soul and part electronic artist.1. 2CellosYoung Croatian cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, together known as 2CELLOS, have achieved sensational success by taking the cello to a new level. Their playing style has broken down the boundaries between different genres of music, from classical and film music to Pop and Rock. 2CELLOS have no limits when it comes to performing live and are equally as impressive when playing Bach and Vivaldi as they are when rocking out AC/DC. Their debut album is a thrilling collection of chart-topping Rock and Pop songs performed in their signature style.
2CELLOS rose to fame in 2011 when their version of Michael Jackson's ''Smooth Criminal'' took the world by storm. The YouTube video became a massive viral sensation leading to a record deal with Sony Masterworks and an invitation to join Sir Elton John on his worldwide tour. The song charted at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Digital Songs Chart and landed the 2CELLOS' debut album in the Top 100.
In addition to many sold out solo tours (US, Japan, Europe) and collaborations with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queens of the Stone Age and George Michael, the duo have also appeared on major TV shows such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Bachelor and many others. Seasoned veterans, Beds have worked alongside local advocates Kelley Deal (Deal duets on the lusciously hushed "Tropics of the Sand") and Robert Pollard (guitarist Derl Robbins records Guided By Voices). Allies aside, when it comes to rock & roll, Motel Beds speak for themselves. "These Are the Days Gone By" reveals the fruits of Beds' labor these latter years. Back To BlackAmy Winehouse's second album, Back to Black, is one of the finest soul albums, British or otherwise, to come out in this decade. Frank, her first album, was a sparse and stripped-down affair; Back to Black, meanwhile, is neither of these things. This time around, Winehouse takes inspiration from some of the classic 1960s girl groups like the Supremes and the Shangri-Las, a sound particularly suited to her textured vocal delivery, while adding a contemporary songwriting sensibility. With the help of producers Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, Rehab becomes a gospel-tinged stomp, while the title track (and album highlight) is a heartbreaking musical tribute to Phil Spector, with an echoey bass drum, rhythmic piano, chimes, saxophone, and close harmonies.
Best of all, though, is the fact that Back to Black is unabashedly grown-up in both style and content. Winehouse's lyrics deal with relationships from an adult perspective, and are honest, direct and, often, complicated. On You Know I'm No Good, she's unapologetic about her unfaithfulness. But she can also be witty, as on Me & Mrs Jones, when she berates a boyfriend.

Before Kevin Rowland launched Dexys Midnight Runners he was the lead singer in this great punk band from the Midlands. Classic amphetamine punk. They were supposed to be making tapes for an album but they split before anything happened and a supposed deal with Bronze was scuppered by Mr Rowland. Around mid 77 they lost Heather and Joe 90 (on Kevin's insistence probably) and acquired a new drummer, Bob Peach, and guitarist Keith Rimell and became virtually a different band as Mr Rowland again sought to jump ship.. And lastly from Rowland himself these words from Mojo October 2001. "There was no doubt in my mind that I was at least as passionate and angry and as from the street as any punk rock singer you could name. But it was wrong for me to try to be part of someone else's thing."1. At Night

Mastered By Bob Ludwig Working Under The Supervision Of Springsteen & Engineer Toby Scott
Sparsely-recorded on a cassette-tape Portastudio, the tracks on Nebraska were originally intended as demos of songs to be recorded with the E Street Band. However, Springsteen ultimately decided to release the demos himself. Nebraska remains one of the most highly regarded albums in his catalogue. The songs on Nebraska both deal with ordinary, blue collar characters who face a challenge or a turning point in their lives, but also outsiders, criminals and mass murderers, who have little hope for the future - or no future at all, as in the title track, where the main character is sentenced to death in the electric chair. Unlike his previous albums, very little salvation and grace is present within the songs. The album's uncompromising sound and mood, combined with its dark lyrical content has been described by a music critic as one of the most challenging albums ever released by a major star on a major record label.1.
