    This Is Sinatra Volume Two

Another collection of Sinatra singles and B-sides with backings courtesy of Nelson Riddle, following 1956's This Is Sinatra!. It also included seven new tracks, all recorded in late 1957: I Believe, Everybody Loves Somebody, It's the Same Old Dream, Time After Time, You'll Always Be the One I Love, If You Are But a Dream, and Put Your Dreams Away. Since Sinatra first recorded these songs in the 1940s, and since most deal with dreams, they might have been meant for a concept album that never came to completion.

Wait for Me is a song from the 1956 film Johnny Concho, a Western in which Sinatra starred.

    Standards

British soul legend Seal returns with his new album, Standards - combining his unique voice with some of the greatest jazz standards and swing classics ever written. An artist who's been at the top of his game throughout his 30-year career, Seal's 10th studio album breathes life into iconic hits, paying tribute to legends including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nina Simone. It will be released on 10th November through Decca Records/Virgin EMI.

Seal said: "This is the album I have always wanted to make. I grew up listening to music from the Rat Pack era, so recording these timeless tunes was a lifelong dream. It was a true honor to collaborate with the same musicians who performed with Frank Sinatra and so many of my favorite artists, in the very same studios where the magic was first made - it was one of the greatest days of my recording career."

Seal's new album brings the glamour of Old Hollywood straight to the present. It is a natural successor to his series of soul records, made a decade ago which sold over 5 million copies around the world. Standards hears Seal's signature, velvety warm vocals bring to life classics made popular by Frank Sinatra (such as 'Luck Be A Lady', 'I've Got You Under My Skin' and 'It Was A Very Good Year'), Ella Fitzgerald ('I'm Beginning to See The Light') and Nina Simone ('I Put A Spell on You'). Elsewhere, there are lush orchestral moments captured on 'Smile' (Charlie Chaplin) and the Cole Porter gem, 'Love For Sale'.

The unmistakable richness of Standards is largely down to Seal's choice to collaborate with the very same, legendary musicians who have performed with Frank Sinatra - Randy Waldman (pianist who toured with Sinatra and Paul Anka), Chuck Berghofer (bass player, who had performed with Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles) and Greg Fields (drummer who also performed with Quincy Jones and Stevie Wonder).

The making of Standards became a real pilgrimage for the Grammy Award-winning artist. The songs were recorded in the famous Capitol Records in Los Angeles (the very studio where Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat "King" Cole and many others have created some of the most treasured music of our time), and United Studios, which was established by Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, where the latter recorded It Was A Very Good Year.

In a career spanning three decades, racking up over 30 million records sales worldwide and a string of Grammy, Brit and Ivor Novello awards along the way, Seal continues to shine as one of the world's brightest music stars. His new album is full of musical gems which glisten when brought to life with his stunning voice.

Imagine an album that could contain tracks by Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Elvis Costello, as well as Frank Sinatra, Cream, and Van Morrison. That's part of the lineup on this various-artists sampler of music used in the television series The Sopranos, music that dates from each of the last five decades of the 20th century, from Bo Diddley's 1950s hit ''I'm a Man'' to Eurythmics' ''I've Tried Everything'' from their 1999 reunion album, Peace. Familiar songs like Sinatra's ''It Was a Very Good Year'' are given a new flavor by being sequenced between very different yet oddly complementary songs. The most interesting moments, however, come with the less familiar material -- cast member ''Little Steven'' Van Zandt and the Disciples of Soul's ''Inside of Me,'' Elvis Costello & the Attractions' live take on ''Complicated Shadows,'' Wyclef Jean's rap over Sly & the Family Stone's ''Family Affair'' on ''Blood Is Thicker Than Water,'' which refers specifically to the mafia family story line of the show. The result sounds like an hour with the radio station of your dreams, which is what this kind of album aspires to be. ~ AllMusic Review by William Ruhlman

H.R. Is A Dirty Guitar Player

In the pantheon of under-the-radar American guitar heroes, Howard Roberts looms large. A remarkably versatile musician who was one of Los Angeles' most in-demand session players from the early 1950s through the 1970s, Roberts' career encompassed an incredible array of studio assignments. He recorded with a dizzying assortment of acts, including Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, the Beach Boys, the Monkees, Dean Martin, Sonny and Cher, the Jackson 5, Peggy Lee, Eddie Cochran, Chet Atkins and the Electric Prunes. He also played on countless film and television soundtracks; his guitar work is featured prominently in the iconic theme music of The Twilight Zone, The Munsters and I Dream of Jeannie.

Roberts was also an accomplished musical educator, co-founding Hollywood's Guitar Institute of Technology, writing a regular instructional column on jazz improvisation for Guitar Player magazine, and penning several highly-regarded guitar instruction books. As a guitar teacher, one of his students was a teenaged Phil Spector, for whom Roberts would later work as a session man.

Impressive as his session resume is, for many guitar aficionados, the real highlights of Howard Roberts' body of work are the instrumental albums he released under his own name throughout his career. One of his best-loved solo releases is the memorably titled H.R. Is A Dirty Guitar Player, originally released by Capitol Records in 1963. Recorded at the legendary Studio A in the Capitol Tower, with a band that includes fellow studio legends Chuck Berghofer and Earl Palmer on bass and drums, H.R. Is A Dirty Guitar Player is a potent showcase for Roberts' fluid, swinging guitar work. The material offers ample opportunity for the artist to demonstrate his versatility, encompassing pop standards 9Lerner, Loewe If Ever I Would Leave You), bossa nova (Antonio Carlos Jobim's One Note Samba) and jazz (tunes by Herbie Hancock, Count Basie and Duke Ellington), along with such Roberts originals as Smolderin', Turista, Deep Fry and Dirty Old Bossa Nova.

Long unavailable in its original form, this vintage instrumental gem has been restored to its original vinyl glory by Sundazed Music. The album has been sourced from the original stereo masters and pressed on 180 gram vinyl, with complete original cover art.

Mastered At Sterling Sound By Ryan Smith From The Analog Tapes

Plated And Pressed By Quality Record Pressings

Deluxe Tip-On Gatefold Jackets By Stoughton Printing

A profile of a rugged Dean Martin by the fireplace with a cigarette adorns the jacket of this very interesting concept album. As Stan Cornyn's liner notes explain, 'his longtime accompanist' on piano, Ken Lane, with 'three of Hollywood's most thoughtful rhythm men' - those being drummer Irv Cottler, bassist Red Mitchell, and guitarist Barney Kessel - do create a mood, Dean Martin performing as if he were a lounge singer at 1:15 a.m. as the Saturday night crowd is dwindling. His signature tune, 'Everybody Loves Somebody,' is here in a laid-back style, produced by Jimmy Bowen, who would go on to produce Reba McEntire, Kenny Rogers & the First Edition, and so many others, also the same man who was behind the 1964 No. 1 smash.

This album with the original Martin recording was released after the hit single version and on the same day as the Everybody Loves Somebody LP, but how many times does the audience get a different studio reading of a seminal hit record? Not only that, but the version that preceded the hit. The backing is so sparse it is almost a cappella, with Kessel's guitar noodlings and Ken Lane's piano. The bass is mostly invisible, coming in only when needed. It's a slow and sultry version that caps off side one.

Martin is just crooning away, and if the album has one drawback, it is that the 12 songs are incessant in their providing the same atmosphere. The backing quartet does not deviate from their job, nor does producer Jimmy Bowen add any technique, other than putting Martin's voice way out in the mix. But Dream With Dean was no doubt the product of excellent research and development, as Bowen landed 11 Top 40 hits with the singer from 1964's Everybody Loves Somebody, which evolved out of this original idea, to 1967's 'Little Old Wine Drinker, Me.' It sounds as if they tracked the album in one afternoon, and it is not only a very pleasant listening experience, it shows what a tremendous vocalist Dean Martin truly was. - AllMusic.

Now Dream With Dean - The Intimate Dean Martin is back bigger and better than ever! We've gone the deluxe Analogue Productions route - remastered from the original analog tape by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound, cut at 45 RPM, plated and pressed at Quality Record Pressings. Then packaged in deluxe tip-on gatefold jackets from Stoughton Printing. A great title, a brilliant reissue. Exceptional!
