    Destroyer (Awaiting Repress)

Ranked 496/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The pressure was on Kiss for their fifth release, and the band knew it. Their breakthrough, Alive!, was going to be hard to top, so instead of trying to recreate a concert setting in the studio, they went the opposite route. Destroyer is one of Kiss' most experimental studio albums, but also one of their strongest and most interesting. Alice Cooper/Pink Floyd producer Bob Ezrin was on hand, and he strongly encouraged the band to experiment -- there's extensive use of sound effects (the album's untitled closing track), the appearance of a boy's choir (Great Expectations), and an orchestra-laden, heartfelt ballad (Beth). But there's plenty of Kiss' heavy thunder rock to go around, such as the demonic God of Thunder and the sing-along anthems Flaming Youth, Shout It Out Loud, King of the Night Time World, and Detroit Rock City (the latter a tale of a doomed concert-goer, complete with violent car-crash sound effects). But it was the aforementioned Peter Criss ballad, Beth, that made Destroyer such a success; the song was a surprise Top Ten hit (it was originally released as a B-side to Detroit Rock City). Also included is a song that Nirvana would later cover (Do You Love Me?), as well as an ode to the pleasures of S&M, Sweet Pain. Destroyer also marked the first time that a comic-book illustration of the band appeared on the cover, confirming that the band was transforming from hard rockers to superheroes.

    Poison Season

Poison Season opens with Vancouver native Dan Bejar swathed in Hunky Dory strings. He's a dashboard Bowie surveying four wracked characters-Jesus, Jacob, Judy, Jack-simultaneously Biblical and musical theatre. This bittersweet, Times Square-set fanfare is reprised twice more on the record-first as swaying, saxophone-stoked "street-rock" and then finally as a curtain-closing reverie. "The first and last songs are actually one song tracked live with quintet," explains their author. "I even sang with the band. That song always swung between super austere and super mid-'70s Springsteen/Bowie street-rock. In the end, I decided I wanted both. Couldn't really figure out a way to sequence the orchestral version within the record, so I decided to carve it up as a book-ending motif, with the rock version squarely in the middle." Mr. Bejar has long displayed a chameleonic instinct for change while maintaining a unified aesthetic (rather than just pinballing between reference points). No two records sound the same, but they're always uniquely Destroyer. His latest incarnation often appears to take sonic cues from a distinctly British (usually Scottish, to be precise) strain of sophisti-pop: you might hear traces of Aztec Camera, Prefab Sprout, Orange Juice, or The Blow Monkeys. These songs merge a casual literary brilliance with intense melodic verve, nimble arrangements, and a certain blue-eyed soul sadness.

Dan Bejar started Destroyer as a solo home-recording project in the early to mid-'90s. Destroyer's two recent limited edition 12s, Bay of Pigs and Archer on the Beach, were lauded by critics and sold out in the first month of release. Upon hearing Bay of Pigs, Pitchfork declared Bejar a songwriter of the highest order, and The AV Club was one of many outlets to declare the song, a real epic, a meditation on life and love in times of crisis. Kaputt is Destroyer's ninth album. This double LP version contains the exclusive, 20-minute bonus song The Laziest River and a coupon for full album download.

    Your Blues

Your Blues is a stunning collection of songs and craftsmanship. Bombastic and bold at times, quiet and
soothing at others, Your Blues has an almost theatrical quality that informs the compositions. Originally released on CD in 2004, Destroyer's sixth studio album is now widely available on vinyl, as the December installment in the Merge25 reissue series.

Recorded with the production duo JC/DC (aka David Carswell and John Collins) -- who aided in the creation of
Destroyer's first three discs -- Dan Bejar ditches the band format he used for 2002's This Night with tremendous results. Fusing a dramatic vocal style akin to that of David Bowie in the 1970s with 1980s studio achievers like Microdisney and Prefab Sprout, Your Blues is regularly breathtaking.

    Star Destroyer

On their debut full-length, this NY-based quintet have demonstrated their penchant for the electro organic; seamlessly blending the sharp and gentle, like a chain gang draped in organza. Think Can or Faust all mashed up with the personal disco of Arthur Russell. Think of the electric organ of Terry Riley's Shri Camel, slowly morphing and perpetually in motion, but remaining in step with a guitar-less and Moroder-charged Sparks. And think of a more composed Dead C, where Michael Morley sings about Big Thunder Mountain while holding a beach ball in one hand and fending off the digital shards of musique concr?te humming around his ears with the other.

19 years after its original release the classic Norwegian Black Metal album is presented again. With no further introduction needed, the early Norwegian black metal band Gorgoroth had been crushing everything in its path ever since their birth in 1992 and with this, their 4th studio album, things were no different. Introducing Gaahl on vocals on the opening track, and with guest appearances of Frost (Satyricon), Daimonion (Enslaved), Ares (Aeternus) in addition to the reaping vocal performance by legendary singer Pest, all under the supervising leadership of Infernus, the message was clear: total Norwegian black metal destruction!

When original LA punks the Weirdos recorded Destroy All Music (their debut EP) on the day Elvis died, it must have sounded like a threat to western civilisation. Thirty years later, gathered here along with various demos and a 1979 EP, it's less revolutionary, but remains a blast. It's like a fusion of the Clash and the Ramones, fronted by a vocalist several sheets to the wind. The Weirdos failed to secure a major deal, presumably because of John Denney's berserk intensity. The rawness gives these historic recordings a punk edge. It's difficult to deny the nihilistic glory of the title track, in which Denney proclaims: I want to kick in the radio, bomb the record store. Outrageous.

Kyle Morton, the lead singer of Portland's indie-orchestra Typhoon, releases his debut solo album. The
ten song album, What Will Destroy You, was recorded by Kyle and longtime Typhoon producer/collaborator
    Paul Laxer.

Of the album, Kyle says, Most of these songs were written in about a day, many of them while walking
aimlessly around Portland, others wrote themselves in the moments just before sleep. They were recorded and
mixed with the invaluable help of Paul Laxer from the inviolate comfort of his living room, mostly in the evenings
during the winter and early spring of 2015. At the outset there was no deliberate attempt at an overarching
concept, though once finished and lined up together the theme of my subconscious was revealed to me: this
was a record about love, more specifically (not devolving into platitudes just yet), the ambivalence of erotic

With a couple exceptions these songs are about kinds of love, from old fashioned heartache to acute
sadomasochism; some drawn from personal experience and others extrapolated from years of keen
    observation on the subject.

    Destroyer: Resurrected

Ranked 496/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

This album has received recognition many years later.

In 1989, Kerrang! magazine listed the album at #36 among the 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time.

In 2006, it was placed at #60 on Guitar World magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Albums of All Time.

The album was also featured in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

This is KISS's 1976 multi-platinum, landmark album Destroyer: Resurrected, newly remixed from the original master tapes by the album's original producer, Bob Ezrin. Ezrin pulled the tapes from the vaults and painstakingly remixed the entire album, enhancing the sound and bringing out its rich texture and vibrancy, while keeping the integrity of the original recording intact. Destroyer: Resurrected will also include rare and unreleased recordings rediscovered during the remixing process, plus the originally intended cover artwork.

Hot on the heels of their breakthrough hit album Alive!, KISS released their fourth studio album Destroyer which is considered the most ambitious studio recording of KISS's '70s catalog. Bob Ezrin, who had previously worked with Alice Cooper, was brought in to produce the album and among the production flourishes Ezrin introduced to KISS were sound effects, strings, a children's choir, reversed drumming and the eerie, echoing sounds of screaming children over Gene Simmons' vocals on "God of Thunder." Upon its release, Destroyer reached the No. 11 position on the Billboard Top 200 and, with the help of the surprise top-10 hit "Beth," was their first album to go platinum.

Originally released as the B-side to the single "Detroit Rock City," "Beth,"-the heart-yearning ballad co-written and performed by drummer Peter Criss-was quickly picked up by radio nationwide and became the first top 10 for KISS, climbing all the way to the No. 7 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. While going through the original tapes, a forgotten vocal piece that was originally edited out in the final mix of "Beth" was discovered and now, for the first time, the complete original vocal recording has been restored and is included in the final mix. Other rediscovered gems include a complete, alternate guitar solo for the track "Sweet Pain," now heard for the first time since it was originally recorded. The newly remixed "Sweet Pain" with the original guitar solo will be included as a bonus track. In addition to the treasures found buried in the hours of recordings, KISS classics such as "Detroit Rock City," "Shout It Out Loud," "Do You Love Me?" and "God of Thunder" were painstakingly remixed by Ezrin as he fleshed out the drums and guitars, bringing out the bottom end to the bass, making his mixes tight and tough.

In addition, Destroyer: Resurrected will now be issued with the originally intended cover art thought too controversial for the time. Created by artist Ken Kelly, the "brown" cover depicts KISS dressed in their ALIVE! costumes and standing on rubble in front of a burning city in ruins. At the time, the record company thought it was too violent and settled for the tamer "blue" version known today. This release also marked the first time that a comic-book illustration of the band appeared on the cover, confirming that the band was transforming from hard rockers to superheroes.

Recorded during the final hours of the sessions for the 'Phantom Limb' lp (Decibel Magazine's #1 record of 2007) 'Mass & Volume' finds Pig Destroyer's typically break neck speed virtually come to a grinding halt. 2 epic songs of crushing doom prove that Pig Destroyer cannot only dominate all other wickedly fast grind bands, but that when Pig Destroyer does slow, they do slow better than anyone else out there. If Pig Destroyer were to completely change gears and become a full time doom band, they would be the best doom band in the world. Until then we all have 'Mass & Volume' to hold us over.
