    Hambone's Meditations

Luther Dickinson is most well known as the head of the North Mississippi all-stars and the lead guitarist for The Black Crowes. He has become known as one of the best guitar players around, whose slide guitar style has been likened to the great Mississippi Fred McDowell. As a young person in Northern Mississippi, Luther was schooled his father, Jim Dickinson, and by the legendary Otha Turner and R.L. Boyce as to the finer aspects of blues guitar playing. Handbone's Meditations is his debut solo outing. The record is a soft, fragile and beautiful offering that provides a stage for Dickinson's soulful, masterful melodic blues stylings.

    Rock 'n Roll Blues

Luther Dickinson enters a new phase of his storied musical
career with his rollicking and raw new solo album, Rock 'n
Roll Blues. From the propulsive beat and unbridled sound of
opener Vandalize, to the insanely catchy Bar Band, it's clear this
is a unique chapter in the acclaimed Southern musician's
songbook. More informed by a youth spent listening to punk rock
than the blues and boogie rock of his revered band North Mississippi
Allstars, the record consists mostly of acoustic guitar, stand up
bass and drums and although not punk in sound, it is in spirit and
the DIY ethos. In essence, an autobiography set to music, the
10-track LP traces Luther's journey from excitable teen to
tour-van vet and offers a side of himself seldom seen before.

The son of the late great producer and musician Jim Dickinson,
Luther made his recording debut at age 14 and has recorded
with a who's who of musicians including The Replacements,
Beck, Jon Spencer, John Hiatt, Levon Helm, Mavis Staples,
Ry Cooder and Patty Grifffin. He is the lead guitarist and vocalist
for the North Mississippi Allstars and widely known as both a
talented musician and producer with four Grammy® nominations
to prove it - three in the contemporary blues category and one in
    traditional folk.

    Tattooed Millionaire

Originally released in the spring of
    1990, Bruce's solo debut
"Tattooed Millionaire" came as something of a
surprise to Maiden's global fan-base. A more stripped
down and straightforward hard rock album than
many had expected, it showcased a more liberated
and arguably light-hearted song writing approach,
bolstered by a newfound partnership with guitarist
Janick Gers, and the sparkling possibilities of a new
    decade.

Songs like the irresistibly catchy title track,
the twinkling radio rock of "Born In '58" and the
strutting smut of "Dive! Dive! Dive!" and "Lickin' The
Gun" suggested that Bruce was letting loose, but
keeping things simple, while the grandiose thunder of
"Son Of A Gun" and rapacious closer "No Lies" hinted
    at more adventurous and challenging
    music to come.

    Tyranny Of Souls

    As the 20th century ground
to a halt, Bruce was busy
    reconvening with the Iron
Maiden family, and contributing to the most spectacular
and undeniable comeback in heavy metal
history. As a result, there was a brief pause in the
forward grind of his solo work. But even as Maiden
returned to the greatest of global heights, Bruce's
idiosyncratic muse was as restless as ever. Seven
years on from the glories of The Chemical Wedding,
the sixth chapter in the great man's solo journey
appeared. A more varied and introspective affair
than its predecessor, Tyranny Of Souls touched upon
balls-out hard rock ("Devil On A Hog"),
    gallivanting, state-of-the-art melodic metal
    ("Abduction") and hazy, prog-fuelled psychedelia
(the exquisite "Navigate The Seas Of The Sun"- a
song inspired by cult author Erich von DÄniken's
theory of extra-terrestrial life on Earth in the distant
past). The album's title track drew from Shakespeare's
Macbeth, with all the pitch-black melodrama
that such a conceit demands, while "Kill Devil Hill"
paid tribute to aviation pioneers the Wright Brothers'
    first triumphant flight in 1903.

    Balls To Picasso

    The key moment in Bruce's
    evolution as a solo artist
    unfolded following his
departure from Maiden in 1993, after which he
joined forces with guitarist and producer Roy Z for
1994's sophomore triumph Balls To Picasso. Backed
by Roy's noted Latino rock crew Tribe Of Gypsies, he
began to spread his compositional wings, edging
towards a noticeably heavier sound - despite,
rumour has it, pressure from Bruce's label to be more
radio-friendly - and flexing those metal muscles with
renewed vigour on the likes of "Cyclops," "1000
Points Of Light," the exhilarating :Laughing In The
Hiding Bush" and towering prog-tinged power ballad
"Tears Of The Dragon," a somewhat oblique, but
undeniably affecting paean, to Bruce's feelings upon
leaving Maiden to forge a new path.

    Accident Of Birth

Barely a year later after his
    third album, Bruce released
    his fourth solo album.
This time, heavy metal in its most bombastic and
destructive sense was firmly back on the agenda.
Once again teaming up with Roy Z, Bruce has rarely
sounded more powerful than he does on this unsung
'90s metal gem. With the added bonus of a certain
Adrian Smith chipping in on lead guitar, Accident Of
Birth was a flat-out celebration of heavy metal, both
past and present, with a sound that was as crushing
and timely as anything the younger generation were
producing, and songs that soared with the same
ageless majesty that fans had long associated with
the Dickinson voice. From the rampaging riff-riot
of opener "Freak" and the shadowy melodrama of
"Taking The Queen," to the insanely catchy twin-lead
euphoria of "Road To Hell" and the labyrinthine
swell of "Omega," Accident Of Birth was much more
than a return to metal's unsullied essence; this was
a reclaiming of the throne from the genre's most
    unstoppable protagonist.

    The Chemical Wedding

    Once again re-emerging
    with new material after little
more than 12 months than his fourth album, Bruce's
solo career clicked into yet another higher gear in
1998 upon the release of the frankly monumental
The Chemical Wedding. Boasting the same line up
as Accident Of Birth - Bruce, Roy Z, Adrian Smith,
bassist Eddie Casillas and drummer David Ingraham
    - it offered a vicious riposte to those cynics who
thought that musicians of Bruce's generation had lost
touch with the way heavy music sounded. Both the
heaviest record that Bruce has ever made and the
finest set of songs in his illustrious canon, the album
received ecstatic reviews, and was widely embraced
by fans of both Bruce's solo career and, of course,
Maiden themselves. This was modern heavy metal
with a traditional heart, but somehow heavier, smarter
and more invigorating than anyone had expected.
On top of that, Bruce's lyrics and the album's concept
offered a depth of substance and intent that cheerfully
made a mockery of the idea that metal is a genre
with a questionable intellect. Variously inspired by the
life and works of William Blake (whose own words
formed part of the epic "Jerusalem"), the nefarious
aspirations of 19th century alchemists, and an
assortment of wild, emotional personal observations,
The Chemical Wedding was widely hailed as a
    masterpiece, and deservedly so.

    Skunkworks

    Firmly established as a
    solo artist, Bruce could
    easily have settled into
a cozy routine of pumping out sparky hard rock
albums every couple of years, and keeping his still
vast fanbase happy. Instead, he took a far more
daring route, embracing the cutting edge alt-rock
sound of the mid-'90s and conjuring the dark, gritty
Skunkworks album in 1996. Named in tribute to
the alias used by US aerospace titan Lockheed's
Advanced Development Programs, the source of
many legendary aircraft designs. "Skunkworks" was
originally to be the name of Bruce's new band, but
after concerns that the absence of the singer's name
would limit the new project's potential, it became the
album's title. Produced by underground rock legend
Jack Endino, Skunkworks has stood the test of time
incredibly well, Bruce's harnessing of less traditional
heavy tropes, the vibrant performances of his young
cohorts, and a generous sprinkling of sci-fi imagery,
combining to thrilling effect, particularly on album
highlights "Space Race," "Back From The Edge" and

    Beale Street Saturday Night

    Clear Vinyl

Memphis' Beale Street had been a hub of music and activity since the
1860s. As it was being plowed under for "urban renewal" in 1976, James
Luther Dickinson-who had played with The Stones, Ry Cooder and the
Flamin' Groovies (later with Bob Dylan and the Cramps among others), as
well as produced Big Star, Screamin' Jay Hawkins and Alex Chilton (also,
The Replacements, Green On Red, and Mudhoney )-decided to not only
celebrate the legacy of great Memphis music, but make it back into the
place where both the blues and rock 'n' roll originated.

A camaraderie of Memphis musicians, photographers, artists, thespians
and "appropriate weirdos" gathered under Dickinson's direction to record
the heart of Beale Street-past and present. From Furry Lewis and Sleepy
John Estes to Sid Selvidge and Dickinson's own Mud Boy & The Neutrons,
Beale Street Saturday Night is an unparalleled audio trip through Memphis
music history. Recorded in places varying from artists' homes, to Ardent
Studios, to The Orpheum Theatre, Beale Street Saturday Night was originally
created as a fundraiser for the Memphis Development Foundation.
This reissue will serve a similar purpose as a portion of the proceeds will
go to support the radio program Beale Street Caravan which focuses on
    Memphis music, new and old.

    Beale Street
Saturday Night features new liners from Jim Lancaster (who worked on
the original issue) and previously unseen photos. This first ever reissue
of Beale Street Saturday Night was done under the supervision and with
the blessing of the Dickinson family, and it finally makes widely available
this important music and historical Memphis document for new audiences
    to discover.

In 1977, Memphis was officially declared "Home of the Blues" by an act
    of Congress. So, welcome home.

    First-Ever Vinyl Reissue

    Limited To 700 Copies

Of all the bands in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement, Samson takes the woulda/coulda/shoulda been big stars prize.

The band's talent and theatricality were undeniable; guitarist and singer Paul Samson had replaced Bernie TormÉ (of Gillan fame) in the band Scrapyard before founding Samson, which soon enlisted the lead vocal talents of a certain Bruce Bruce a.k.a. Bruce Dickinson, soon to be of Iron Maiden. Throw in bassist Chris Aylmer and drummer Thunderstick, who performed inside a metal cage wearing a gimp style mask, and this was an outfit seemingly destined for big things.

But, constant promotional gaffes (e.g. booking them on tour with an ill-matched Robin Trower) led the band to terminate their contract with management, who promptly brought an injunction keeping them off the road. Then, their label(Gem) went bankrupt; as Dickinson says, they made every mistake in the business.

In the midst of all the turmoil, though, the band made its third and finest record, Shock Tactics, which was ably produced by AC/DC producer Tony Platt; but, as Iron Maiden was recording next door at Battery Studios in London, the two bands became friendly, and Dickinson left Samson for Iron Maiden just as Samson received big offers from A&M and RCA, which were instantly withdrawn upon his departure. So, classic music industry saga classic British Heavy Metal!

Real Gone Music is proud to present Shock Tactics inCrimson Loincloth vinyl limited to 700 copies and including the original album insert-first-ever vinyl reissue!

    Runaway's Diary

    Gold Translucent Vinyl

In the nine years since she released her debut album, Amy LaVere's music has been called many things: dark and sexy, witty, feisty, breezy, mysterious. And she is all of that on 'Runaway's Diary'.

    The Cold Of The Morning

LP Available For The First Time Since 1976!

Sid Selvidge's The Cold Of The Morning is a mid-'70s Memphis classic. And, it almost never saw the light of day.

Recorded in 1975, Selvidge and producer Jim Dickinson (Big Star, Ry Cooder, The Replacements) created a 12-track song cycle, captured live in the
studio with Selvidge on vocals and guitar, plus Dickinson on piano with Memphis' iconic Mudboy and the Neutrons on two tracks. With a cover photo
taken by William Eggleston, it was destined for greatness, but when Peabody Records' benefactor decided not to put the record out at the last minute, he
gave the rights to the recently pressed LP to Selvidge, who drove down to the plant, loaded up his car and distributed them himself. The album eventually
found its way into regional stores and the national press, even reaching the Cashbox charts, and was enough to take Selvidge to New York, but life
intervened, and bigger record deals were not in the cards.

Omnivore Recordings is proud to issue this indelible piece of the Memphis music canon on LP for the first
    time since its initial release.
Consisting of originals, blues standards, and Broadway classics, The Cold Of The Morning, is not only a snapshot of a time and place, but of Selvidge
himself. The package includes rare photographs and an in-depth essay from Bob Mehr of The Commercial Appeal.

Selvidge would eventually turn Peabody into a boutique label, issuing records by Cybil Shepherd, and even Alex Chilton's solo debut, Like Files On
Sherbert. He continued to record, releasing a 1993 album on Elektra and a triumphant swansong, I Should Be Blue, in 2010. But, it all began on The Cold
Of The Morning. "He said, 'Look, I've made my classic record," recalls his son, Steve. "It was almost like he was apart from it. It really was the perfect
capturing of the perfect moment, and it made for his most perfect statement."

Dead Man's Town: A Tribute To Springsteen's Born In The U.S.A.

2014 marks the 30th anniversary of Bruce Springsteen's 'Born In The U.S.A.'
Although it would become his biggest selling album with seven top 10 singles
on the Billboard Hot 100, Luther Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars
says "any of those songs could be played with acoustic guitar alone and
still be great." Taking this idea as its premise, 'Dead Man's Town: A Tribute to
Born in the U.S.A' strips the album's twelve indelible originals to the core, with
contributions from Jason Isbell & Amanda Shires, Low, Nicole Atkins, Justin
Townes Earle, Blitzen Trapper, Joe Pug, Trampled by Turtles, and more. Rolling Stone premiered Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires' Dave Cobb-produced
cover of "Born In The U.S.A," saying these artists are "reimagining 'Born in
the U.S.A.'... with a reduced approach more influenced by that of the acoustic
    'Nebraska.

Isbell says of his cover, ""Born In The U.S.A." is one of my favorites
because so many people have seemingly misunderstood the lyrical content
and the song's overall tone. When you listen to the demo, the dark, minor key
arrangement makes it clear that this is not strictly a song of celebration.
We wanted to stay true to that version." Amanda Shires adds, "I love that
the song paints a picture of struggle in the face of the American dream, and
the irony in the chorus is delivered with such force that it nearly
    transcends irony altogether."

    The Simple Truth

Jeff Austin has been playing professionally for nearly 20 years, most of them as the vocalist/mandolinist of the game-changing bluegrass jam act Yonder Mountain String Band. Austin has long harbored urges to stretch out musically-and even cast a few pop hooks of his own. He finally makes the leap on The Simple Truth, his solo debut (releasing Feb. 10th, 2015) and maiden voyage with Yep Roc Records. Accompanying him is an eager troupe of trustworthy fellow travelers chartered as the Jeff Austin Band: Danny Barnes (of Bad Livers fame) on banjo, guitars and vocals; Ross Martin on guitars; and Eric Thorin on basses and vocals, with North Mississippi Allstar Cody Dickinson on drums, percussion and electric washboard. The result is an album that truly reflects Austin's goal of crafting a sonic document unconstrained by the limitations jamgrass, newgrass or whatever other names it wears. The Simple Truth captures the energy and excitement of that party, as well as the quiet moments of contemplation that happen after guests leave. If one must give it a label, Americana will do, but he prefers to call it, simply, "American music, written from my experience as a 40-year-old guy in America."

    Blue Healer

Unkempt visionary, Squirrel Nut Zippers founder, former sideman for Jim Dickinson and Buddy Guy, self-proclaimed Arkansas Son-in-Law- Jimbo Mathus has lived many lifetimes, more than most of us could stomach. Now, Mathus is back with a new album, Blue Healer, recorded in Water Valley, Mississippi with Fat Possum & Big Legal Mess producer Bruce Watson.

"It's the story of a man in a southern landscape who is swept insanely apart by internal and external winds," Mathus says of the new record. "He digs deeper and deeper into the very fabric of his reality, experiencing love and lust, despair, hope and sheer animal exhilaration on levels few ever do. He is tested in every way imaginable and achieves a sort of enlightenment - gains power and understanding of life's mysteries. Yet questions remain. He wonders if the struggle was worth it, or even real. Is he madman or sage? Con man or honest counsel? Is this autobiographical or fictional? Only the Blue Healer knows the answer to the great cosmic heebie-jeebie."

    World Boogie Is Coming

North Mississippi Allstars have announced the release of their record, World Boogie Is Coming. They produced it themselves at their own Zebra Ranch Studios in Hernando, MS, aside from a day in the studio with Robert Plant (and his harmonica) at Memphis' legendary Royal Studios. The Dickinson Brothers did it with the help of long-time friends Duwayne and Garry Burnside, Kenny Brown, Alvin Youngblood, Sharde Thomas (Otha Turner's granddaughter), Chris Chew, Steve Selvidge, Lightnin Malcolm, Plant and others. World Boogie Is Coming is the record that perfectly ties it all together, fusing all the elements that have made the Allstars special while pushing the band's sound further into the future than ever before.

Luther Dickinson says, "It all started when Seasick Steve told me: 'You are the one, you are the link, you have to keep it primitive and take it to the people.'" He continues, "I feel like I owe it the elders who taught me the traditional music in which I operate to let the music evolve and allow outside modern influences into the tradition to keep it alive and healthy. I realized that I had not been holding up my end of the deal. Since I am virtually devoid of modern influences, I turned to my brother Cody, who is my opposite in taste and style and loves modern music and production. Allowing Cody to produce the tracking sessions allowed me to sing and play wild and with abandon. Our contrasting styles are the heart of NMA."

Cody has discovered a love of filmmaking and knows that in this day and age you need multi media. He set out to use our landscape of modern day Mississippi and roadwork experiences to share with the audience a vision, a dreamscape of our world. We wanted the World Boogie Is Coming package to have as much visual content as possible, with the record itself being sonically cinematic, a montage of medleys similar to our live shows - the recording fell together beautifully with that intent. We set ambient microphones up around the whole studio - footsteps, rain, wind, talking, bugs and birds all played their part. Archival tapes of Otha and R.L. fell right into the pocket as soon as we transferred them, laughing, joking and jamming with their kids -transcending time and space, life and death."

"'World boogie is coming' was my father's favorite valediction," says Cody. "Naming this record after his closing phrase seemed like a great way to honor him and his memory. World boogie is coming is also a rallying cry. And the cry is this: It's time to boogie!"

This record represents two years of our collective lives," he continues. "Luther, myself and our crew touring the world and doing what we do best: Bringing our music straight to the people. World Boogie Is Coming documents that journey and narrative. The story tells itself. We set out to make a definitive and decisive record. It turned into the experience of a lifetime; our magnum opus. It is cinematic by design and infectious by nature, so sit back, relax and enjoy. Let's get large and have a good time."

    Dark Night Of The Soul

This musical DNA has been in Jimbo Mathus since birth. His father and relatives
were all skilled musicians who filled the house with old folk, country and blues
tunes. By the age of eight, Mathus was joining them on mandolin and by his
teenage years had learned guitar and piano. High school led to playing in punk
and new wave bands, the most notable being Johnny Vomit and the Dry Heaves
and The End, with future Oblivian Jack Yarber. Post high school, Mathus studied
Philosophy at Mississippi State University before leaving to travel around
America. In doing so he worked various jobs, including an influential stint as
a barge tankerman on the mighty Mississippi River. Settling in Chapel Hill,
N.C., he drummed in the cult rock band Metal Flake Mother prior to starting
the Squirrel Nut Zippers. This ahead-of-its-time retro roots band scored a hit
with "Hot" and performed at President Clinton's second Inauguration and the
1996 Summer Olympics. Following the Zippers' split, Mathus worked with such
noted artists such as Buddy Guy and Elvis Costello, and collaborated with North
Mississippi Allstars guitarist Luther Dickinson and Alvin Youngblood Hart in the
South Memphis String Band. He also recorded his own albums (including one
dedicated to his childhood nanny Rosetta Patton, the daughter of Delta blues
    icon Charley Patton).

On most of 'Dark Night's' tracks, Mathus' acoustic guitar is surrounded by
the electric guitar played by his longtime sideman Matt Pierce and pal Eric
"Roscoe" Ambel. (Ambel produced 'White Buffalo' but on 'Dark Night' he focuses
exclusively on his righteous guitar playing.) The album's raw, rock sound arose
from the fact that most of the tracks were recorded live in the studio with
Mathus' band, the Tri-State Coalition, which he found "very liberating way of
doing it." Mathus feels very in synch with his bandmates (keyboardist Eric
Carlton, drummer Ryan Rogers, guitarist Pierce and guest bassist and Drive By
Trucker Matt Patton) since they have played together now for several years.
"The intensity you're hearing on this album," he proclaims, "is the spirit of a
band that is put ting it's shit on the line ."

    Boomer's Story

Ry Cooder Is A Master Sonic Archeologist And Cultural Historian On Boomer's Story: Guitarist Pays Tribute To The Past And Updates Music For Future On Rustic Record Steeped In Folk, Blues, And Soul

Mastered From The Original Master Tapes, Pressed At RTI, And Strictly Limited To 3000 Numbered Copies: Mobile Fidelity 180g LP Of Boomer's Story Sounds Fantastic With Vibrant Textures

Ry Cooder's development as a peerless musician capable of grasping virtually any style began with his time spent with Taj Mahal and Captain Beefheart, but for all intents and purposes reaches epic proportions on Boomer's Story. With two ambitious albeit uneven studio albums behind him, the California native plunged into roles that still define him today - that of sonic archaeologist and cultural historian, shaping his 1972 Reprise effort with enlightened selections carved into the bedrock of America's folk, blues, and soul landscapes. Inspired, virtuosic, and poignant, Boomer's Story endures as a ravishing portrait of inspired translation and inventive craftsmanship that after years of neglect finally boasts sonics deserving of the performances.

Mastered from the original master tapes, pressed at RTI, and strictly limited to 3000 numbered copies, Mobile Fidelity's 180g LP of Cooder's breakout teems with natural tones, front-to-back imaging, and vintage tube warmth. Boomer's Story benefits from vibrant textures and organic openness, two prized traits that come to fore with breathtaking realism on this analog reissue. Details ranging from the audible resonance of the drum skins, drifting reverb on the guitar, and the inner cavity of the piano take up residence on deep-black soundstages. Individual notes appear and recede with lifelike decay. Cooder and company sound as if they're in the room, playing in real time with one another. This record has never been more dynamic or involving.

Having initiated his self-taught learning of customs established by the likes of Josh White, Woody Guthrie, Charlie Johnson, and Robert Johnson as early as age four, and grown up a son of parents obsessed with Folkways Records, Cooder never suffers from the retro rehash fakery plaguing countless contemporary revivalists. A true original, the guitarist simultaneously pays tribute to the past and updates it for the future. Boomer's Story brims with traditional tunes (the title track, Good Morning Mr. Railroad Man), classic blues (Ax Sweet Mama, Cherry Ball Blues), and World War II standards (Comin' in on a Wing and a Prayer).

A spellbinding blend of personality, respect, and innovation grace every song. Evoking the timeless rusticism and weird, old America vibe of Bob Dylan and the Band's Basement Tapes, Boomer's Story unfolds with a relaxed ease and back-porch chemistry underlined by the musicians' unpretentious demeanors and potent abilities. Drummer Jim Keltner, percussionist Milt Holland, and bassist Jim Dickinson (also a producer) are among the cast fleshing out Cooder's visions. The headliner also welcomes country-blues legend Sleepy John Estes to sing on his own President Kennedy and leans on pianist Randy Newman to help him transform the normally bellicose Rally 'Round the Flag into a patient, mournful protest.

Cooder attains equally meaningful, emotional results on a definitive wordless interpretation of the staple soul ballad The Dark End of the Street, expressing unfathomable depths of regret and longing via slide-guitar work that draws a line back to Blind Willie McTell's immortal spiritual Dark Was the Night - a song Cooder called the most transcendent piece in all American music. Indeed, the degree of interplay attained by twinkling keys, rambling beats, brass accents, and dazzling guitar lines - also finger-picked and strummed - on Boomer's Story breathes with a rare air increasingly endangered in an era of on-demand immediacy and auto-tuned imitation. This, as it's said, is the real deal.
