RockferryDuffy's debut release, Rockferry has allready reached #1 in the U.K. and its first single, Mercy, has already reached platinum status there, holding the #1 airplay position for four weeks in a row. Rockferry has been described as having the power, the depth, the songs, the vocals and the music to anoint it as an instant classic. With comparisons to Dusty Springfield, Lulu and the soul of Otis Redding, Duffy has created a stunning and modern body of work here with a nod to the throwback Stax albums that have stood the test of time. Duffy's U.K. breakthrough Rockferry is poised in every way, to make its mark on the U.S. charts as well and with songs like these, it seems likely.1. Rockferry

Choice of Weapon (Awaiting Repress)The Cult's newest album Choice of Weapon is the follow up to the critically-acclaimed 2007 release Born Into This which Mojo magazine called "a wholehearted, utopian and irrefutably exciting record." Long-time Cult collaborator and producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Bush), who produced one of the band's most successful albums in the platinum-certified Sonic Temple, put the finishing touches on the foundations that were laid by co-producer Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age, U.N.K.L.E., Masters of Reality).
The record was written by Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy, recorded in New York City, Los Angeles, the California high desert, and the band's Witch Mountain studios in the Hollywood Hills between July and December of 2011. The new release features founding members Astbury on vocals and Duffy on guitars, with drummer John Tempesta and bassist Chris Wyse. "We have had the opportunity to work with two of the most influential and talented producers in the world today," said Astbury. "They pushed us beyond our comfort zone, and helped us craft Choice of Weapon.'"
The album is aimed at the heart of The Cult's loyal following. It reflects the current discontent and destruction of our eco systems, the search for individual meaning against a tide of rampant materialism, narcissism and disconnected lives. "We went deeper, we worked a bit harder on this record. We have great fans and they deserve our best," added Duffy, "and I feel this is one of our best records, maybe the best."1. Honey from a Knife

Hidden CityWhen Rolling Stone hailed THE CULT as "the Messianic moment of Coachella" in 2014, few knew that their next release would be unveiled in the form of HIDDEN CITY, their tenth studio album (and second for Cooking Vinyl).
The final instalment in a trilogy of recordings, completing 2007's Born Into This (The Fall) and 2012's Choice of Weapon (Dark Night of the Soul), Hidden City is a tightly-woven series of experience and visions with underlying themes of redemption and rebirth threaded through The Cult's visceral music. Astbury's signature baritone and blood-soaked lyrics paired with Duffy's smouldering, textured guitar tones, create a musical environment that is fearless and peerless.
From the sonic assault of the opening track Dark Energy, Hidden City launches quickly into the dark underbelly of its subject matter. Stemming from the Spanish phrase "La Ciudad Oculta" or "hidden city," the album reflects an awakening of consciousness through its tone and complexity. "Hidden City is a metaphor for our spiritual lives our intimate interior lives," explains Astbury. "I find today's gurus are trying to peddle some cure, product or insight as if it's a new phenomenon. My place is to respond, not react, to observe, participate and share through words and music. There is no higher authority than the heart."
Produced by Bob Rock and written by Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy the team has collaborated on what has turned out to be the brutal and beautiful masterpiece Hidden City.
The Cult have revealed in a storied career. From the iconic Love album bursting with idealism to the dystopia of 2001's Beyond Good & Evil to the current seductive Hidden City, the band lives their art. A new chapter dawns for The Cult as the future unfolds The Cult will respond. It's what they do.

On The Sunday Of Life (Awaiting Repress)Remastered By Steven Wilson
Porcupine Tree's 1991 debut album is an album that stands up as a modern day pop-psych classic.
With acid warped lyrics courtesy of Alan Duffy (the brains behind the late lamented Imaginary Records
label) the album is a surreal delight containing gems such as "Jupiter Island" and "Linton Samuel
Dawson" filled with quirky melodies, effected vocals and trippy backwards guitar work. "Nine Cats",
the undoubted masterpiece of the album, is pure Edward Lear styled psychedelia.
'On The Sunday Of Life' also hints at the direction the band would later take with more progressive
influenced material such as the epic 'Radioactive Toy' still performed live today.LP 1

Paper GodsDuran personified new wave for much of the mainstream audience. Duran Duran's reputation was built through music videos, which accentuated their fashion-model looks and glamorous sense of style. Without music videos, it's likely that their pop-funk -- described by the group as the Sex Pistols meets Chic-- would never have made them international pop stars.
Inspired by David Bowie and Roxy Music, as well as post-punk and disco, schoolmates Nick Rhodes (keyboards) and John Taylor (guitar) formed Duran Duran in 1978 with their friends Simon Colley (bass, clarinet) and Stephen Duffy (vocals). Taking their name from a character in Roger Vadim's psychedelic sci-fi film Barbarella, the group began playing gigs in the Birmingham club, supported by a drum machine. Within a year, Duffy and Colley both left the and were replaced by former TV Eye vocalist Andy Wickett and drummer Roger Taylor. After recording a demo, John Taylor switched to bass and guitarist John Curtis joined the band, only to leave within a matter of months. The group placed an ad in Melody Maker, which drew the attention of Andy Taylor, who became their guitarist. Following Wickett's departure in 1979, a pair of singers passed through the group before Simon LeBon, a former member of the punk band Dog Days and a drama student at Birmingham University, joined in early 1980.1. City MusicCity Music is an airplane descending over frozen lakes into Chicago. City Music is riding the Q Train out to Coney Island to smell the ocean and a morning in Philadelphia where great cranes reconfigure the buildings like an endless puzzle. City Music is also the new album by Kevin Morby.
Full of listless wanderlust, it's a collection inspired by and devoted to the metropolitan experience across America and beyond by a songwriter cast from his own mold. It is a collection crafted using the other side of its creator's brain, the jumping off point perhaps best once again encapsulated by an image. Here, Lou Reed and Patti Smith stare out at the listener, explains Morby.
City Music sees Morby joined once again by cohorts Megan Duffy (guitar) and Justin Sullivan (drums). Here the vocals were recorded at night, in darkness, overlooking a Pacific Ocean illuminated only by the stars, the wash and whisper of the ebbing tidal a distant soundtrack. The record was completed with Richard Swift in Oregon (producer of Foxygen, sometime member of The Black Keys). Here the album gives voice to all those cities speaking the same universal language of chaos and commerce and culture.1. Come To Me Now

Medicine CountryShe may be considered the U.K. garage-rock queen (SPIN), but Holly Golightly has always embraced the sounds of the American south. She followed that muse to the dry, rural county of Madison, Georgia, where she now lives on a farm raising horses, chickens, and the curiosity of her neighbors. Golightly and The Brokeoffs (a.k.a. one-man band and frequent Golightly collaborator Lawyer Dave) recorded their new album Medicine County in an abandoned, recently foreclosed upon church nearby.
Medicine County features twelve new recordings, including eight originals by Golightly and The Brokeoffs, alongside traditional numbers like Blood on the Saddle and Jack ODiamonds. While theres a spectral quality to those traditional songs and others on the album, Golightly offers some levity, and a sharp lyrical wit, on tunes like Eyes in the Back of My Head and the albums title track, a postcard from their new home. Its a testament to the caliber of Golighty and The Brokeoffs writing that the trad numbers consort seamlessly with their originals.
The Washington Post has noted that Holly Golightly can make you believe in past lives and shes lived a few of her own. While Amy Winehouse and Duffy were in grade school, Golightly was fronting girl-group revival harbingers Thee Headcoatees. More recently she has collaborated with groups like The White Stripes and Mudhoney, and in 2005, two of her recordings were featured prominently in the acclaimed Jim Jarmusch film Broken Flowers. Since 2007, she has performed with The Brokeoffs, a partnership Pitchfork calls heartily ramshackle, and American Songwriter magazine has hailed as genuine, inspired and soulful.1. Forget It

Made in EuropeThe 1970s were truly a successful era for hard rock legends Deep Purple. This Mark III band superstar act now featured the much revered line up of the original guitar hero Ritchie Blackmore, keyboard great Jon Lord, power drummer Ian Paice, and new cohorts the superlative Glenn Hughes on bass and superstar vocalist David Coverdale.
In support of their then huge current albums Burn and STORMBRINGER, Deep Purple took to the road for many sell out shows of the next several years and recorded what would become the final album of their long platinum plus run with Warner Bros. Records, the amazing MADE IN EUROPE.
Filled with blazing guitar licks from Ritchie Blackmore, searing vocals from David Coverdale and an arena powered rhythm section courtesy of Deep Purple, the band opens the LP with the hugely popular Burn. The fire continues to excel with their legendary blues cruncher Mistreated, featuring some highly touted guitar licks by Ritchie Blackmore as well.
Never fear more hard rock is here as side two blows your speakers apart with the extended power rocker You Fool No One from 1973s Burn. Jon Lord gets a special showcase in the beginning intro of the tune, as the band jumps in on the familiar chord progression, making this a major highlight listen of this wonderful live album. The apocalyptic warning of Stormbringer closes out the album and is possibly one of the most rockin versions ever of this time honored classic.
Friday Music is very honored to offer another fine Deep Purple classic recording with the exclusive 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl release of Made In Europe. Impeccably mastered by Deep Purple connoisseur Joe Reagoso from the original Warner Bros. tapes at Capitol Records in Hollywood, this amazing limited edition live document shows the legendary Mark III band at the their finest playing their most notable tunes from their much acclaimed works.
This masterpiece comes with the original album cover graphics designed by Phil Duffy as well as photos by Fin Costello, plus a poly lined sleeve to protect your vinyl and a poly bag to keep your LP cover in great condition for years to come!

The blues live on because the blues give people life, not the other way around. Talk about the blues with Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and composer Taj Mahal, or Tim Duffy, founder of the Music Maker Relief Foundation, and you'll quickly understand how deeply they grasp this. So it's no surprise that their shared love of blues has created a special vinyl-only album release that's got the loose, easy feel of a porch-sitting guitar strum, sipping sweet tea on a warm summer day.
Labor of Love comprises recordings made by Duffy, hanging out with Taj and other artists in a Houston hotel room and during visits to the Music Maker Relief Foundation headquarters in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
Taj and Tim first connected in the mid-1990s as Tim was establishing the foundation. The foundation is dedicated to preserving Southern roots music by directly supporting senior artists in need while documenting their music and sharing their stage and recording talents with the world.
A CD collection released by the foundation featuring Music Maker artists caught Taj's attention. Tim invited Taj to his place in rural Pinnacle, N.C., where he hung out with several of the artists. Taj loved how they played and sang, but he especially loved getting to know their lives and how they made things work.
Not much time passed before a performing tour was launched, with Taj as the headliner. Meanwhile, Tim, sensing an incredibly rich opportunity, was hauling along with the tour, high-end recording gear. He set it up in hotel rooms hoping to capture an impromptu session. One night in Houston, magic happened. A few senior bluesmen, Tim, Taj and the daughter of Katie Mae, immortalized in the Lightin' Hopkins classic Katie Mae Blues hung out together in a hotel room in Houston. Taj picked up an acoustic guitar and started in on classic tunes - Stack-O-Lee, Walking Blues, and more. The tape was rolling.
During the time of the tour, Taj was also visiting during hang-out, barbecue and recording sessions at Music Maker's new North Carolina headquarters in Hillsborough. When the music got going, Taj would play some piano, bass, harp, banjo, mandolin and whatever else was needed.
Now is the time for these immortalized sessions to be heard. So here they are on a solid piece of wax. And what wax it is - a full-on 200-gram vinyl Analogue Productions masterpiece plated and pressed at Quality Record Pressings, maker of the world's best-sounding LPs. Packaged in a Stoughton Printing tip-on gatefold jacket. You won't find a more intimate portrayal of Taj as a freewheeling, fun-loving, always-in-the-pocket sideman.
