    Black Butterfly

Limited Edition Of 1,000 Individually Numbered Copies On 180 Gram Solid Gold Colored Vinyl

Steve Walsh is known for his work as the frontman of the progressive rock band Kansas, from which he retired in 2014. On his new solo album Black Butterfly the influences from his past are brought together in some compact rock songs. Steve wrote the 14 songs of the album together with the Swedish musician Tommy Denander and the Christian rocker Jerome Mazza takes the lead vocals on three songs. The music goes from the sounds of Kansas (The Piper) to the beats of Warsaw and the political news on Billy Carbone Dead. Black Butterfly is a wonderful return to Walsh' studio work.

Whoever speaks out the name of Steve Walsh will directly think about the massive worldwide success of the American rock band Kansas. He was the lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist on their well-received albums Leftoverture and Point of Know Return as well as on their single hits Carry On Wayward Son and Dust in the Wind. Their progressive songs were interspersed with rock ballads and attracted a massive following.

    Point of Know Return

    Import

Back in 1977, the LP Point Of Know Return marked the commercial peak of Kansas. The Progressive Rock band had experienced tremendous success with their previous release (1976's Leftoverture) and were no longer starving for a hit, yet the sessions for their fifth album were tense. Steve Walsh briefly left the group in the middle of these sessions. Nevertheless, the LP turned out an even bigger success for the band than its predecessor. It would be their highest charting record and with four million copies sold, it was certified Quadruple Platinum by the RIAA.

The tour to support the album brought them to huge venues such as New York's Madison Square Garden and the LA Forum, with the tour book including an essay written by Rolling Stone contributor Cameron Crowe. The band became a staple on FM radio at this point, and during this period was one of the most popular rock acts in the country. "Dust In The Wind" became the hit single off of the album.

    Fight Club (Soundtrack)

Mondo are proud to present the soundtrack to Fight Club on vinyl for the first time in over 15 Years.

The Dust Brothers only film score to date, Fight Club is arguably one of the most enjoyable soundtrack albums to come out of the 90's and part of that has to do with the fact that it is one of the best sequenced scores of all time. Weaving all of the films cues from the film into 16 songs, the album winds up feeling like the best instrumental Trip-Hop album you've never heard.

Buy it, or you will be incomplete. But be warned, this album is not beautiful, clean or perfect. It is not Mint, or even VG+. It is Fair at best. Just like you. You are not your record collection.

When Macklemore declares his music is David Bowie meets Kanye sh*t, it's a bit of an oversell on the Bowie side, but then again, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring are also honored as influences during Ten Thousand Hours, the biographical highlight that opens the Seattle rapper's vibrant sophomore release.

These arty name-drops threaten to paint the album as more obscure than it is, but even as glitch electronica and Mad Rad member Buffalo Madonna strange up the breakup number Thin Line, The Heist comes off as instant, alive, and oh so welcoming. Chalk it up to Macklemore's playful and open lyrics (When I was in the third grade/I thought I was gay/Because I could draw, my uncle was, and I kept my room straight) or the album's not so secret weapon, Ryan Lewis, the producer who earns his co-billing with a George Martin or Dave Fridmann-sized sense of purpose and an Internet kid's sense of utilizing anything and/or everything. For the music industry takeover Jimmy Iovine with Ab-Soul as guest, Lewis' production is a mix of G-Unit gangster music and a Houston hip-hop trunk rumbler, while the pro-gay marriage highlight Same Love with Mary Lambert is supported by full-bodied piano and the sound of a bittersweet marching band, all of it familiar yet twisted through a laptop with hypnotic loops and catchy hooks coming out. Gold (feeling like 500,000 sold) is joyous and bright mini-electro that feeds the positive side of the soul, while Can't Hold Us comes with an irresistible bounce, both tracks being light, lovely, and in contrast to the numbers that deal with Macklemore's addiction issues and other obstacles.

These two talented young bucks can't be contained, and hearing them offer one memorable, meaty number after another makes for an exciting listen, but this is unfiltered freshness released on Macklemore's own label, so the concepts of restraint and focus take a slight hit, leaving the is-he-Eminem, is-he-Childish Gambino, or is-he-Grieves question with no clear winner. Here, he's a mix of all of the above with some distinctive qualities, and with Lewis putting that kaleidoscope style underneath, The Heist winds up a rich combination of fresh and familiar.

    The Game

Queen had long been one of the biggest bands in the world by 1980's The Game, but this album was the first time they made a glossy, unabashed pop album, one that was designed to sound exactly like its time. They might be posed in leather jackets on the cover, but they hardly sound tough or menacing -- they rarely rock, at least not in the gonzo fashion that's long been their trademark. Gone are the bombastic orchestras of guitars and with them the charging, relentless rhythms that kept Queen grounded even at their grandest moments. Now, when they rock, they'll haul out a clever rockabilly pastiche, as they do on the tremendous Crazy Little Thing Called Love, a sly revival of old-time rock & roll that never sounds moldy, thanks in large part to Freddie Mercury's panache. But even that is an exception to the rule on The Game. Usually, when they want to rock here, they wind up sounding like Boston, as they do on John Deacon's Need Your Loving Tonight, or they sound a bit like a new wave-conscious rocker like Billy Squier, as they do on the propulsive Coming Soon. But even those are exceptions to the overall rule on The Game, since most of the album is devoted to disco-rock blends -- best heard on the globe-conquering Another One Bites the Dust, but also present in the unintentionally kitschy positivity anthem Don't Try Suicide -- and the majestic power ballads that became their calling card in the '80s, as they reworked the surging Save Me and the elegant Play the Game numerous times, often with lesser results. So, The Game winds up as a mixed bag, as many Queen albums often do, but again the striking difference with this album is that it finds Queen turning decidedly, decisively pop, and it's a grand, state-of-the-art circa 1980 pop album that still stands as one of the band's most enjoyable records. But the very fact that it does showcase a band that's turned away from rock and toward pop means that for some Queen fans, it marks the end of the road, and despite the album's charms, it's easy to see why.

    Nervous

    "Carefully crafted, perfectly balanced, addictively
    melodic" - ROCK-A-ROLLA

"In cold surroundings, moments of warmth arrive
with life-affirming brightness, and that's what
makes Siskiyou's music so memorable" - BLURT

Siskiyou returns with Nervous, a majestic album of carefully constructed art rock
built around songwriter and lead singer Colin Huebert's stacked acoustic guitars
and intimate, whispery vocals. Siskiyou's sound has been previously dubbed a sort
of 'Northern Gothic', conjuring cold winds and the life-saving warmth of temporary
shelters and tiny hearth fires. With Nervous, the band continues to push beyond
the crisp lo-fi intimacy of its early work, and has forged its most confident and
finely-crafted recording to date, moving fully into auteur and chamber-pop
territory with a song cycle that brings to mind the meticulousness of mood and
sonics found in recent work by PJ Harvey, Nick Cave and Tindersticks. Inflected
by an anxious, sussurant restraint, Huebert's voice is supported by the falsetto
backing vocal counterpoint and economical instrumentation of bandmates Erik
Arnesen, Peter Carruthers and Shaunn Watt. Fans of the understated and
underrated 1990s group Swell may also hear a welcome evocation of that group's
acoustic guitar-driven simplicity and austere deployment of adornments.

Following Siskiyou's excellent sophomore release Keep Away The Dead in 2011,
Huebert became afflicted with a serious inner ear condition that eluded
conventional diagnosis. While honouring a previously-scheduled songwriting
residency in Dawson City, Yukon in winter 2012, Huebert found himself grappling
with severe anxiety and an unwelcome interiority, engendered by hyperacusis and
a house that felt utterly haunted. Intense chronic ear-ringing and panic attacks
continued throughout the year, for which conventional medicine was unable to find
any cause or effective treatment; Huebert began focusing on meditation, retreated to
silence for a period, and then began rehearsing his new songs with the band at
extremely low volumes. The songs on Nervous are shot through with the entirety of
this experience: the literal feeling of being trapped in one's head and the physica-lpsychological
feedback loop of debilitating anxiety; the lyrical themes and tense,
whispered singing amidst tightly-wrought compositions and arrangements.

Huebert found solace in new working methods within the controlled environment
of studio-based production and composition, developing new sonic palettes and
pursuing new avenues of instrumental arrangement and recording fidelity.
Working with producer/engineer Leon Taheny (Owen Pallett/Final Fantasy, Dusted,
Austra) on most of Nervous, Siskiyou has emerged with by far its most assured,
ambitious and authoritative recordings, while preserving the economy of elements,
deft structures, and assiduous melodic deliberation for which the band has been
rightly celebrated over its two previous albums. In charting escape paths from his
disquieting cranial confinement, Huebert has very much succeeded in setting his
songs out on an expansive canvas, while preserving a palpable sense of nervous
interiority and quiet desperation at their heart.
