    Straight Outta Compton (20th Anniversary)

Ranked 144/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Straight Outta Compton is the debut studio album by American hip hop group N.W.A, released August 8, 1988, on group member Eazy-E's record label Ruthless Records. Its title refers to the group's native town, Compton, California. Production for the album was handled by Dr. Dre, with DJ Yella giving co-production. The album has been viewed as the pioneering record of gangsta rap; with its ever-present profanity and violent lyrics, it helped to give birth to this then-new sub-genre of hip hop. It has been considered groundbreaking by music writers and has had an enormous impact on the evolution of West Coast hip hop.

Eazy Duz It (25th Anniversary Edition)

    Remastered 25th Anniversary Edition

Released only a month after Straight Outta Compton (1988), Eazy-Duz-It was the first N.W.A spin-off album. Years before Ice Cube went solo with Amerikkka's Most Wanted (1990), before Dr. Dre changed the rap game with The Chronic (1992), before MC Ren struggled to establish himself with Shock of the Hour (1993), and before Yella simply fell into obscurity, Eazy-E rose to immediate superstar status with this solo debut. It's no wonder why, for the album plays like a humorous, self-centered twist on Straight Outta Compton with Eazy-E, the most charismatic member of N.W.A, front and center while his associates are busy behind the scenes, producing the beats and writing the songs.

In terms of production, Dr. Dre and Yella meld together P-Funk, Def Jam-style hip-hop, and the leftover electro sounds of mid-'80s Los Angeles, creating a dense, funky, and thoroughly unique style of their own. In terms of songwriting, the D.O.C., Ice Cube, and MC Ren are each credited; plus, Ren performs raps of his own on five of the 12 songs.

The collaborative nature of the music -- with Dre and Yella producing; the D.O.C., Ice Cube, and MC Ren writing the songs; MC Ren featured as a guest on half of them; and Eazy-E performing -- fortunately makes Eazy-Duz-It more of an N.W.A effort than a true solo album. This is fortunate because as charismatic as he may be, Eazy-E isn't an especially gifted MC. He's at his best here when he's cracking wise and also when he's overshadowed by Dr. Dre's productions, particularly on the four-song sequence of Eazy Duz It, We Want Eazy, Eazy-er Said Than Dunn, and Radio -- all heavily produced songs with layers upon layers of samples and beats competing with Eazy-E's rhymes for attention.

Straight Outta Compton is no doubt the more revolutionary album, yet Eazy-Duz-It is a great companion, showcasing N.W.A's sense of humor and, despite the often violent subject matter, casting them in a lighter, more humorous mood. When Eazy-E would return with a second solo release, 5150 Home 4 tha Sick, his N.W.A associates would be M.I.A. and the difference would be stark.

    The Beautiful & The Damned

'The Beautiful and Damned' album and short film paints a very dire portrait of Gerald/G-Eazy that is very real and has never been shared by him before.

Originally Gerald saw limitations in his life so he created G-Eazy as a way to make it past those and live how he thought he wanted to live and become that rockstar he thought he wanted to be. The problematic pattern that has come from the rise of this star is that G-Eazy lives a constant dark clichÉ of addiction and over indulgence in his favorite vices that surround him each night in the lifestyle in which he's found himself. Heavy handed in reference to F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel of the same name, 'The Beautiful and Damned' shows us hung-over Gerald left having to clean up reckless G's aftermath on a daily basis.

The dueling narrative he conveys is as desperate, humble, and confessional as it is brazen, celebratory, and loud in its own hubris. He is in the middle of a very serious conflict with his alter ego and he has genuine concern as well as thoughts about how to get back to who he is as person.

This album and film is about the duality of these two characters who wrestle inside of him, and the beginning of that communication and process on how to preserve his true self.

On the back of his monstrous first single, "No Limit" featuring A$AP Rocky and Cardi B from his forthcoming album The Beautiful & Damned, the Bay Area's own multi-platinum rapper and producer G-Eazy has announced the highly personal 20-track double-album will be out on vinyl via RCA Records.

Special guests on the album include a cast of heavy-hitters featuring Halsey, Cardi B, A$AP Rocky, Kehlani, E-40, Charlie Puth, Anna of The North, and more.

    Digitally Remastered/EXPLICIT VERSION

The Chronic is the solo debut album of American hip hop artist Dr. Dre, released December 15, 1992, on his own record label Death Row Records, and distributed by Priority Records. Recording sessions for the album took place in June 1992 at Death Row Studios in Los Angeles and at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood. The album is named after a slang term for high-grade marijuana, and its cover is an homage to Zig-Zag rolling papers. It was recorded by Dr. Dre following his departure from hip hop group N.W.A and its label Ruthless Records over a financial dispute, and consequently features both subtle and direct insults at Ruthless and its owner, former N.W.A-member Eazy-E. Although a solo album, it features many appearances by Snoop Dogg, who used the album as a launch pad for his own solo career.

Upon its release, The Chronic received positive reviews from most music critics and earned considerable sales success. The album peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and has sold over three million copies, which led to Dr. Dre becoming one of the top ten best-selling American performing artists of 1993. Dr. Dre's production has been noted for founding and popularizing the G-funk sub-genre within gangsta rap. The Chronic has been widely regarded as one of the most important and influential albums of the 1990s and regarded by many fans and peers to be one of the most well-produced hip hop albums of all time.

    Look Up

It can be far too easy to get caught in negativity in today's world. We're surrounded by it in the news, the media and even entertainment. And that's what makes Mod Sun's music and message all the more refreshing.

"It's about empowerment. It's about saying it's okay to sit by yourself on a Friday night and make music. You'll never be lonely if you love the person you're alone with," says the rapper, whose name stands for "Movement On Dreams Stand Under None."

A Minnesota native, Mod grew up in a household that played everything from Bob Dylan to Prince, and that eclectic foundation has informed his musical journey. He started playing drums at age 13, and by 16, he began touring with a few bands, including the successful rock group Four Letter Lie.

But his heart told him to go after something else.

"I was in a state of comfort, touring and in a band, and I decided I wanted to totally change it up and do something I believed in," the 27-year-old remembers.

So he gave up that steady gig to pick up the mic. Mod wrote his first song at age 19, and hasn't looked back since. Over the last eight years, he has released six mixtapes and three EPs. He has collaborated with artists including Schoolboy Q, Nipsey Hussle and G-Eazy, and earned a spot as one of sixteen independent artists from around the world competing for the cover of Rolling Stone in 2011.

After his most recent release, 2012's Happy As Fuck, he again proved his artistic versatility, by momentarily shifting his writing focus in a new direction: His book, Did I Ever Wake Up?

"It's all about the fact of making your life a dream," he says of the inspirational work. "I was a stubborn kid. You can never learn if you're always right. It took all these things for me to become what I want to be."

Now, the focus is again squarely on the music. He's built plenty of momentum over the last year, thanks to videos for tracks like "My Hippy, "Free Love" and "Mushrooms." And now, Mod is getting ready to deliver his Friend Base - because he has no fans, only friends - his debut album, which is due at the top of 2015, through Rostrum Records.

The music has grown, but the underlying message remains.
"No matter the amount of negativity you're presented with, 5 minutes from now could be your best moment."

    The Story Of Us

The Story Of Us is the debut album from Detroit-bred vocalist/songwriter Quinn XCII. The album if filled with refreshing authenticity and grassroots appeal, and is highlighted by standout single Straightjacket, an infectious track that combines stylish retro-electronic chops with a sultry reggae snap into its own pop sound about a psycho from a Midwest suburb. The album effortlessly fuses pop, soul, electronic, hip-hop, and reggae-tinged vocal stylings with Spartan proficiency, and presents a lively arc of songs that connects the growing fan base who follow Quinn XCII.

Whether it's the cautionary gold digger-in-reverse wisdom of Fake Denim, or the witty-but-wary life lessons flung in the catchy Flare Guns, and darker Tourist, or irresistible pop sunburst of One Day At A Time, Quinn XCII unveils each track in a flurry of pulse-raising shades.

For The Story Of Us, Quinn XCII connected with some new producers and collaborators, including Michael Keenan (G-Eazy's Me, Myself and I), buzzing songwriter Scott Harris (The Chainsmokers' Don't Let Me Down, Shawn Mendes' Treat You Better and There's No Holding Me Back), veteran David Gamson (Kelly Clarkson, Kesha) Robby Hauldren (from the duo Louis The Child, who Quinn XCII toured with last year), and The Wiild, who helmed both Fake Denim and the previously released Straightjacket. However, fans can still expect the signature sounds he's known for, as he continues to team up with ayokay (who fully produced his two previously released EPs) on the album as well.

Regarding The Story Of Us, Quinn XCII comments: I wanted the album title to really represent that I'm just like everyone else and go through similar experiences. The songs are relatable and touch on all different topics and emotions new, old, good and bad relationships, growth, memories, temptation, and challenges. I'm just a kid from the Midwest. My life isn t this unattainable fantasy, I didn't have an angle or connections to the music industry. I just worked hard to turn my passion into a career, anyone can do the same in whatever they're pursuing.
