    Electro-Shock Blues

Electro-Shock Blues is the second studio album by alternative rock band Eels. Electro-Shock Blues was written
largely in response to front man Mark Oliver Everett's (more commonly known as E) sister's suicide and his mother's terminal lung cancer. Though much of the album is, on its surface, bleak, its underlying message is that of coping with some of life's most difficult occurrences.

Souljacker is a studio album from Eels released on March 12, 2002. Unlike some of Everett's other albums, most
notably Electro-Shock Blues, Souljacker is mostly based on stories of outsiders rather than on Everett's own life.
Souljacker received a generally favorable reception from critics, with several reviewers comparing the album's sound to that of Beck.

    Royal Albert Hall

In May 2014 EELS embarked on an ambitious fifty-three show world tour. Starting in Phoenix, Arizona and crossing The United States and Canada before rolling through mainland Europe and Great Britain, the band performed spine-tingling shows at New York's Apollo, Chicago's Vic Theater, Los Angeles' Orpheum Theater, The Montreux Jazz Festival and The Amsterdam Concert Hall among many others. On the night of June 30th EELS returned to London's legendary Royal Albert Hall for the first time in nine years to play a stunning show that was filmed and recorded.

In sharp contrast to the previous EELS tour that found the band in track suits playing high octane electric rock & roll, this EELS show was a gentlemen's EELS concert, as EELS leader Mark Oliver Everett, aka E, puts it. Filmed by nine cameras in the gorgeously-lit Royal Albert Hall, the new film and album find the EELS dapperly dressed in suits and ties, and all five band members stretching their musical capabilities past new boundaries, playing songs from 2014's critically-acclaimed THE CAUTIONARY TALES OF MARK OLIVER EVERETT for the first time along with songs spanning the EELS' 19 year career. When they played Royal Albert Hall in 2005 they were accompanied by a string section. This time there are only the five core members of the band on stage throughout the concert, splitting their time between guitar, piano, pedal steel guitar, trumpet, upright and bowed bass, melodica, vibraphone, timpani, drums, concert chimes and glockenspiel. And the results are stunning.

The film features the band backstage preparing for the big night and captures the entire show from start to finish, as it happened, including Everett kissing the spot where John Lennon once stood on the stage, making his way to hug fans all the way around Albert Hall's massive floor, returning for several encores, as well as a surprise phantom encore where Everett's dream of playing the massive Albert Hall pipe organ for some spooky EELS classics finally comes true.

Perhaps as a result of this fantastic show, EELS were quickly invited back for a second 2014 London show and Everett, once heavily-bearded and mistakenly suspected by London police to be a terrorist (while taking a break from press interviews in Hyde Park), was made an honorary citizen of London in a ceremony granting him Freedom of the City.

Soul Jazz Records' new 'Punk 45' album Extermination Nights in the Sixth City charts the rise of underground punk in the mid-west city of Cleveland, Ohio, which for many people is the true birthplace of punk music in the mid-1970s. Featuring a fantastic collection of punk 45 singles from Cleveland groups including Pere Ubu, electric eels, The Pagans, Rockets From The Tomb, Mirrors, X-X and more. The album follows on from Soul Jazz Records' earlier Punk 45 albums about USA and British punk (Kill The Hippies! Kill Yourself! and There Is No Such Thing As Society) as well as the cover art book Punk 45. Extermination Nights in the Sixth City coincides with the release of as a second album about Ohio's early punk scene, Burn, Rubber City, Burn - featuring the music scene of nearby Akron.

The Moray Eels Eat The Holy Modal Rounders

Led by maverick folksters Peter Stampfel and Steve Weber, the Holy Modal Rounders were an eye-opening blend of Greenwich Village strum, Kentucky bluegrass and Appalachian drone-topped off with enough mind-altering chemicals to derail the Wabash Cannonball. The Rounders' 1968 masterpiece, The Moray Eels Eat The Holy Modal Rounders, spotlights The Bird Song, an infectious ditty used in the Easy Rider soundtrack, the squealing majesty of Werewolf and drug-addled ramblings like My Mind Capsized and The STP Song (it wasn't about that slippery engine oil). Sam Shepard, the Rounders drummer (and soon-to-be-acclaimed playwright), even muffs the words to the pledge of allegiance, transporting you to the era as surely as a truncheon to the head at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Internationally renowned DJ and radio personality Gilles Peterson has called upon some of the most exciting names across the jazz, electronic and indie worlds to rework Melanie De Biasio's acclaimed album No Deal, including EELS, The Cinematic Orchestra, Hex, and Seven Davis Junior.

EELS haunting, orchestral reworking of opening track I Feel You is the first ever remix by Mark Oliver Everett (AKA E), who fell in love with De Biasio's music when she supported EELS at the Royal Albert Hall in June. The Cinemantic Orchestra give I'm Gonna Leave You an intense reworking, while beat maker C. Crisci, a.k.a Clap! Clap! gives the same track an afro-beat slant. Seven Davis Jr gives title-track No Deal an old school house flavour, while LA's Jonwayne coats With All My Love a lush balm of hip-hop. Japan's Toshio Matsuura (AKA Hex) adds an impressive urgency to The Flow, whilst France's modern classical composer Chassol provides a downtempo and discordant take on Sweet Darling Pain.

A second collected volume of demo versions of songs destined to be considered for recording by The Who, this 1987 release on Atco Records is as an even stronger collection than it's 1983 predecessor. It (again) contains rough, acoustic workups of many Who standards in their infant form such as You Better You Bet, Pinball Wizard, Happy Jack, Substitute, Pictures of Lily and The Kids Are Alright among others. The curiosity lies solely in the head-arrangements on songs that were to become associated with time and enveloped within, Roger Daltry's vocal gymnastics. Here, sung by Townshend himself, one can sense the writer's distinct persona. . The comparison to eventual more famous versions is fascinating in most cases. The exposure of these workups reveals how great these songs really are, stripped down. Other selections include Girl In A Suitcase, Brooklyn Kids, Football Fugue, Long Live Rock, Call me Lightning, Holly Like Ivy, Begin The Beguine, Vicious Interlude, La-La-Lies, Cat Snatch, Prelude ##556, Baroque Ippenese, Praying The Game, Drifting Blues, Christmas, Don't Let Go The Coat, Prelude: The Right To Write, Never Ask Me, Ask Yourself, The Ferryman and The Shout.

The Leeloo was cheeckily named after the main character in the movie The 5th Element Love! Leeloo is a unique amplifier combining headphone amp and stereo with dedicated taps for each and a volume control to provide easy integration with any source. Leeloo is the best of single-ended bliss, ultra linear power and mild feedback for improved frequency extension and noise floor. Paring a single 12ax7 in the preamp section with a pair of EL84s, the SE-84 doesn't require an external preamp and can be driven to full output with an iPod or smartphone. Coupling caps are high grade Wima, we use 2% resistors, and our usual robust power supply including massive choke regulation to drive the D/C ripple and noise floor to the lowest levels we every seen. The SE-84 driven by an iPod makes a fantastic combo for a 2nd system or smaller room. 2.6 watts may not seem enough, but the bass presence and sound stage will make a convert of you. Perhaps the most astonishing feature of Leeloo is the 1watt into 32ohm loads able to drive even the most demanding headphones with ease.

The SE-84 is small in physical size (12"x 10") and built into a gorgeous Solid Eastern Walnut Cab with ebony corners. The finish is hand rubbed lacquer. The SE-84 will be at home in your rack or as a statement piece in your office.

Each amspandsound amp is built with attention to grounding schemes - star grounding and use of common ground contributing to its very low noise floor and wide bandwidth. Leeloo pairs well with most speakers 89db and above, but like all our amplifiers it is quiet enough to use with full-range or horn-loaded speakers having 100db efficiency and above. Speakers that can go cleanly down to 30hz really bring out the very best of the amp.

Leeloo is handmade with pride in Southern California with US-sourced parts, including our precision transformers.

New album. New sound. On Acrobats London's Peggy Sue has put down the acoustic guitars, this time opting instead for buzzing guitars and crackling amps. Recorded with producer of the moment John Parish --known for his extensive work with PJ Harvey, Sparklehorse and EELS -- Acrobats keeps the propulsive energy of their former work, but this time the sonics back up the mood. Songwriters Rosa and Katy, and drummer Olly called upon early influences like Sonic Youth and The Breeders when conceiving Acrobats which, coupled with recently acquired electric guitars and a new practice space, released the ferocity that had always been swimming just beneath the surface of the band's music. Parish successfully harnesses this newly minted electricity, resulting in the fulfillment of several albums and EP's worth of musical innuendo. Acrobats is certainly still Peggy Sue, but this time we see that behind the wry smile lies a mouthful of sharp, dirty teeth.

    God's Hooks

Ottawa, Ontario's BIIPIIGWAN may be one of the greatest bands you've never heard. There's really no other way to describe the music set forth on the band's first full-length, "God's Hooks," (recorded and produced by Fuck the Facts' Topon Das). A testament to killer songwriting, howled through a crashing pace of heinous sludge-hardcore and post-metal, the scope and execution of "God's Hooks," is on par with the emotional and musical epicness practiced by Unsane, Yob, Neurosis and Rwake.

Seven songs of angry doom, stripped down and driving, headed towards a raging crescendo of filth, truth and riffs handed down from a mountain of death. Hypnotic with glances of technical jams, BIIPIGWAN flow all up into your ears, like electric eels on a sacrilegious mission to overload the controls of the heart of the sun, in hopes the fiery mother of our universe, the sleeping hell giant, comes smashing down endlessly upon us until all time and space are rendered super heavy and loud.
