    Ghostbusters (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

The soundtrack for the 1984 blockbuster comedy Ghostbusters, which starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis as a New York-based team of spook exterminators, follows the most common soundtrack formula for summer blockbuster hits: throw on a bunch of pop songs that were heard in the movie only for a few seconds, combine them with a couple of excerpts from the original score, and -- voila! -- you have a soundtrack album. The highlights here are two tracks from Elmer Bernstein's score, Mick Smiley's Magic, which played a major role in the film, and the witty Ray Parker, Jr. theme song, Ghostbusters, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Song.

Man With The Golden Arm Soundtrack

    Import

Limited Edition Of 750 Copies On 180-Gram Gold Colored Vinyl

One of the finest jazz soundtracks to come out of the '50s, "The Man With The Golden Arm" is taken from the Otto Preminger film of the same name. Preminger was always very jazz influenced, and on this film he took his chances with Elmer Bernstein. The 1955 movie is about a former heroin addict, Frankie Machine (Frank Sinatra). For this movie, Elmer Bernstein composed perhaps the most brilliant jazz score. The drum, Frankie's own instrument, provides the rhythmic basis of the score. In the film's opening it's beat is alternately steady and agitated, just like Frankie's life; meanwhile, the brass screams and whirls out of control, mirroring Frankie's desperation as he runs off in search of one "last" fix

Mommie Dearest (Music From The Motion Picture)

    Pressed On Spotless White Vinyl

    Limited To 1200 Copies

Christina Crawford's controversial memoir about the abuse she suffered at the hands of mother Joan Crawford spawned an even more controversial movie starring Faye Dunaway as the Hollywood diva. Panned by many, Mommie Dearest won (?) an award for the worst movie of the '90s, and to this day is loved/loathed for being an over-the-top camp cult classic. But one aspect of the movie was universally hailed: Henry Mancini's elegant score.

Fashioned to re-create the classic film themes from '40s and '50s dramas by such composers as Bernard Herrmann, Alex North, and Elmer Bernstein, Mancini's work is a model of restraint, balancing passion and pathos while commenting and adding texture to the emotional extremes being displayed on screen. As always, Mancini's command of orchestral color is masterful, and while none of the melodies here are quite as scene-stealing as, say, his work on Days of Wine and Roses among his darker-themed movies, he does save quite a punch for last with the penultimate "No More Pain" track. For this, the FIRST-EVER VINYL RELEASE of this classic score, Real Gone Music has designed a gorgeous gatefold cover featuring production stills. Limited edition of 1200 in very, very clean white vinyl!
