    Back In Memphis

    180 Gram Translucent Gold Vinyl

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early fifties, and as a struggling young truck driver, Elvis cut some demos as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys. The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly signed the legend to a long-term deal, and his first RCA single Heartbreak Hotel forever etched "The King Of Rock And Roll" trademark to his name. He would eventually become the most successful solo artist of all time!

As 1970 began, Elvis returned to the studios of Memphis and would go on to record his smash album Back In Memphis. Ever proving that he was indeed on top of his game, the amazing album featured a treasure trove of his most soulful works like Inherit The Wind and Stranger In My Own Town. Back In Memphis soon went on to achieve gold and platinum status and become one of his most memorable titles in his huge arsenal of masterful albums.

Thanks to his great interpretation of Neil Diamond's And The Grass Won't Pay No Mind, his vocal prowess on the country groover From A Jack To A King and of course the soul drenched Without Love (There Is Nothing), this collection of Elvis Presley's hits were just what the fans were screaming for, and the entire album was built around the framework of his Back In Memphis trademark sound.

    Mystery Girl Expanded

Everyone involved with Mystery Girl sensed the magic in Roy Orbison, who, in 1988, was enjoying a full creative renaissance and resurgence of popularity. One of Roy's classic recordings, "In Dreams," memorably lip-synched into a hurricane lamp by Dean Stockwell, had served as a key thematic element in David Lynch's "Blue Velvet," igniting a renewed interest in the Big O.

In a series of bold aesthetic moves, Orbison directly addressed his legacy, first with Class of '55 (a 1986 reunion album with fellow Sun Records alumni Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins) and then, In Dreams: The Greatest Hits, where Orbison recut many of his biggest songs, using 1980s technology to produce results often surpassing his original recordings.

At this same time, Roy Orbison became a founding member of the Traveling Wilburys, the roots rock supergroup also featuring Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, and Tom Petty. It was during work with the Wilburys that the vision for Mystery Girl, a new Roy Orbison album made of original songs from a variety of writers-including Roy Orbison, Diane Warren, Elvis Costello, Wesley Orbison and U2s Bono and the Edge (among others)-began taking shape.

"When he sang it, it was absolutely magnificent," said Jeff Lynne, who would produce tracks for Mystery Girl. "His voice, I had never heard a voice like that live, you know, in the studio, ever . He had this wonderful spirit, almost like a kid in many ways.

He was just a happy guy. I love him . One of the proudest things I've ever done is to have become his friend. I'd look at him and just go, 'Wow, it's him. The Big O.'"

Roy's core group of musicians on the original Mystery Girl recordings included Jeff Lynne (guitar, piano, bass, backing vocals), Tom Petty (acoustic guitar, backing vocals), Mike Campbell (guitar, bass, mandolin), Jim Keltner (drums), Howie Epstein (bass, backing vocals), and Benmont Tench (piano, organ, cheap strings). Contributing artists on the album include Barbara Orbison, Roy Orbison, Jr., Al Kooper, George Harrison, Bono, T Bone Burnett, Steve Cropper, The Memphis Horns, and more.

"I was just taken by how amazing this guy was. Just sitting, singing softly, sitting on the sofa with an acoustic guitar, his voice was unbelievable." remembers Tom Petty. "The music will live on, you know; it's very timeless music."

Mike Campbell added, "Any time I hear one of Roy's songs, wherever I am, I just stop and listen to it and he's there, you know. His artistry and his voice and his spirit and the depth of his soul is so unique and it just connects with you in such a deep way . He just had a way of getting into your heart."

"He was a real innovator, truly a great singer," said Bono. "The real rebels to me always had manners. Elvis, you know, and Roy, Roy was a true gentleman. And that's a scary thing in a man, do you know what I mean? A man that's so sure in himself that he can be polite."

The legendary guitarist Steve Cropper confided that, "I've only met basically three, maybe three-and-a-half, of what I call 'light bulbs' in my life. And what I mean by 'light bulbs' is they're the brightest one in the room and when they walk in the door every head turns. Every head. Not just a few, not some people still talking in the corner. It's like everyone stops what they are doing. Elvis Presley, Otis Redding and Roy Orbison. And I saw that happen to Bill Clinton. So, there you go and I've never seen that happen to anybody else, ever."

The Elvis Presley/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series Continues!

Mastered by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray from the Original RCA Records Tapes/Manufactured at RTI

    Elvis' Groundbreaking Comeback Album!

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early '50s, and as a struggling young truck driver, he cut some demos at Sun Studios as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys. These initial songs, of which he had only paid a few dollars to record, would become the catalyst that would kick-start the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide superstar unlike the world has ever known!

The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly bought out his contract and signed the legend to a long-term deal, and his first RCA single "Heartbreak Hotel" forever etched 'The King Of Rock And Roll' trademark to his name. For the remainder of the 1950's into the mid-60's, Elvis Presley would release several dozen more hit albums and smash singles, spend time in the Army, star in a plethora of top charting films, as well as sell out concert tours around the states and Canada making him the most successful solo artist of all time.

As the turbulent '60s roared on, styles of music would change and rock and roll was becoming more infused with psychedelic and harder rock elements. Elvis wasn't a follower by any means, so he got back to his roots and began another chapter of his career which many have called The Elvis "Comeback" era. First witnessed on his impeccable Elvis television program on NBC-TV in 1968, a new and exciting rock superstar was truly back to reclaim his crown.

Thanks to his chart topping smash recording of "In The Ghetto," this southern fried deep soul sounding Elvis Presley was just what the fans were screaming for and soon enough an entire album was built around this great new sound entitled From Elvis In Memphis. The 1969 album also was a blockbuster as it topped the upper rungs of the pop and country charts, making this one of his biggest albums of his career as well as one of his most revered. From Elvis In Memphis truly proved once again that his career was unlike any other in music history.

Produced by Chips Moman, the From Elvis In Memphis album takes off with the two soul stirring rockers "Wearin' That Loved On Look" and the Jerry Butler Philly groove of "Only The Strong Survive." More Elvis favorites follow with the country ballad "Long Black Limousine" and the rockin' interpretation of Hank Snow's classic "I'm Movin' On." The album also features a nice helping of solid interpretations of Elvis' own favorites like Burt Bacharach's classic "Any Day Now," the timeless "Gentle On My Mind" by John Hartford, and of course the heartfelt Mac Davis composition "In The Ghetto." In total, the album showcases twelve important Elvis Presley recordings which have truly gone onto become definitive classics by any measure of popular music.

In honor of the Man, the Music, the Legend, the King Of Rock And Roll, Friday Music is very proud and honored to announce the limited edition 180g audiophile vinyl release of the RCA Victor classic From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley. Elvis Is Back! is the tenth studio album by American singer and musician Elvis Presley. It was originally released on RCA Victor Records in April 1960. Recorded over two sessions in March and April, the album marked Presley's return to recording after his discharge from the U.S. Army.

In 1957, as Presley's fame was soaring, he received a draft notice from the Memphis Draft Board, but was given a deferment so he could finish his latest film production, King Creole. During Presley's two-year military service in Germany, RCA Victor and Paramount Pictures progressively released material he had completed prior to enlistment. During his last months in the Army, Presley experimented with new sounds and worked on further improving his performance. He also prepared material for his first session in Nashville, which was scheduled to take place upon his return. Presley returned to the United States on March 2, 1960. The singer reunited with his original band The Blue Moon Boys, excepting bassist Bill Black. The first session was held on March 20-21 and the second session was held on April 3-4, completing the album.

Elvis Is Back! topped the UK Albums Chart and reached number two in Billboard's Top LPs. Initially, the release received mixed reviews, but over subsequent years its critical reception became progressively more positive. The album was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America in 1999.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early fifties, and as
a struggling young truck driver, he cut some demos at Sun Studios as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys.
The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly bought out his contract and signed the
legend to a long-term deal, and his first RCA single Heartbreak Hotel forever etched "The King of Rock and Roll" trademark to his name.

Over the next three decades, Elvis Presley would release dozens of hit albums and tons of smash singles, spend time in the Army, star in over 35
top charting films, as well as sell-out concert tours around the states and Canada making him the most successful solo artist of all time. In 1968, after a
series of very successful movies and top charting recordings, Elvis made a wise decision to work with the folks at NBC and develop a Christmas TV special,
which would have The King perform in front of a live studio audience for the first time in years.
This legendary career move spread like wildfire and soon was hailed as "The Comeback," further igniting his career to an all new high. The King
took his shows to the theatres and casinos and supermassive stadium tours over the next number of years, while releasing a plethora of even more gold
    and platinum recordings

With the soundtrack album nearing release, it was already gaining popularity in advance thanks to the chart single smash If I Can Dream. This
masterwork album included a treasure trove of rare television studio performances that captured a very great time in the musical history of this genius.
In addition to the wonderful hit single aforementioned, The King reaches back to his early Memphis days with his first chart-topper Heartbreak
Hotel and more fifties classics like Lawdy Miss Clawdy, All Shook Up and even a pair of Jimmy Reed blues classics with Big Boss Man and Baby, What
    You Want Me to Do.

Even more hit tracks and sensational medleys featuring Elvis classics abound including Guitar Man, Blue Christmas, Love Me Tender and Can't
Help Falling in Love. Plus the beautiful ballad Memories is also included which has since become an Elvis fan favorite thanks to the wonderful production
    on this brilliant album.
Elvis Presley's TV Special album would go on to become one of his biggest albums ever, as fans rushed to the stores to buy this stunning rock and
roll soundtrack back in December of 1968.

A Date With Elvis (Mono) (Speakers Corner)

Good products are worth their weight in gold when times are a little harsh - and this album was certainly a genially placed stopgap. In 1959, at the time when RCA launched this record on the market, the label's shining rock star was out of the country doing his military service in good old Germany. In order to comfort all his fans during his forced absence, the record bosses produced an album with a smartly uniformed Elvis on the cover, smiling widely to let his faithful followers know that he'd be back soon. There was a special calendar too, so that his fans could count off the days until his return. This marketing ploy was extremely successful. The record became a highly desirable collector's item and even years later illegal dollars still flowed from pirate copies.
The RCA producers kept mum about when and where the tracks were recorded. But who cares about that when listening to Elvis giving the 'blue grass' classic Blue Moon Of Kentucky his unmistakable, rockabilly sound? The other titles, all of them performed by a well-proven ensemble of rock-'n'-roll musicians, are filled with the honest, powerful language of the young - or from today's viewpoint, old - Elvis. Which takes us back full circle to the date. What better way is there to celebrate the 50th birthday of rock-'n'-roll than with this early album by its 'King'?

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Way Down In The Jungle Room

RCA Records and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release Way Down In The Jungle Room, a definitive new 2-LP collection of Elvis Presley's last studio recordings.

Way Down In The Jungle Room is an essential and welcome addition for every fan's library. In the mid-1970s, Elvis, the King of Rock 'n' Roll, became another kind of pioneer as one of the world's first major recording artists to create fully-realized professional level records in the intimacy of his own home studio.

With original recordings executive-produced by Elvis Presley with producer Felton Jarvis (who'd helmed most of Elvis' records from 1966-1977), Way Down In The Jungle Room features rare outtakes laid down during two mythic sessions (February 2-8, 1976 and October 28-30, 1976) in Graceland's den -- known as the Jungle Room -- which was converted into a professional caliber recording studio for the purpose of capturing these indelible performances. The outtakes have been newly mixed by Grammy Award-winning engineer Matt Ross-Spang at Sam Phillips Recording in Memphis, Tennessee.

For these sessions, Elvis was backed by many members of his longtime touring band including: James Burton (guitar), Ronnie Tutt (drums), David Briggs (keyboards), Glenn D. Hardin (keyboards), Jerry Scheff (bass), Norbert Putnam (bass) and J.D. Sumner & the Stamps (vocals).

In 1976, when the tracks for Way Down In The Jungle Room were cut, Elvis Presley had been an RCA Records recording artist for 20 years, inventing the sound and attitude that defined the very essence of rock 'n' roll. That same year, RCA released The Sun Sessions, the label's first official collection of the electrifying 1954-1955 Elvis recordings that launched his career while transforming the world.

Having entered his 40s, Elvis Presley was evolving as an artist and, rather than bask in the nostalgia of his 1950s watershed recordings, was looking for new ways to express himself musically. Needing to create new sounds for a new era, Elvis Presley--who'd been charting on Country and Adult Contemporary stations -- decided to convert the Hawaiian-themed Jungle Room (a relaxation den in his fabled Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee) into an informal home studio, where he could lay down tracks the way he wanted, outside the budget and scheduling pressures of the professional studios he'd worked in previously. With the help of RCA's mobile recording truck and longtime producer Felton Jarvis and engineer Mike Moran at the board, Elvis tackled a far-ranging mix of country and pop covers (Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, I'll Never Fall in Love Again, Danny Boy, Solitaire) and late-period classics of his catalog, such as Moody Blue and Way Down.

The Outtakes was mixed for this collection at the Sam Phillips Recording Service in Memphis and includes both outtakes and in-the-studio dialog, providing a fly-on-the-wall experience of what the sessions were like. With the exception of She Thinks I Still Care, the performances have been sequenced in the order they were recorded.

Way Down In The Jungle Room with also be available on 150g 12 vinyl in a 2LP gatefold sleeve.

First Time 180 Gram Vinyl & Gatefold Cover Presentation

Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso At Friday Music Studios And Manufactured At R.T.I.

Over the next three decades, Elvis Presley would release dozens of hit albums and tons of smash singles, spend time in the Army, star in over 35
top charting films, as well as sell out concert tours around the states and Canada making him the most successful solo artist of all time.
The King
took his shows to the theatres and casinos and super massive stadium tours over the next number of years, while releasing a plethora of even more gold
    and platinum recordings

With the soundtrack album nearing release, it was already gaining popularity in advance thanks to the chart single smash If I Can Dream. This
masterwork album included a treasure trove of rare television studio performances that captured a very great time in the musical history of this genius.
In addition to the wonderful hit single aforementioned, The King reaches back to his early Memphis days with his first chart topper Heartbreak

Initially pressed on vinyl, this amazing album has been out of print on vinyl for several decades that is until

Raised on Rock/For Ol' Times Sake is a studio album by Elvis Presley released in 1973. Along with the album Elvis, it was released after the massive success of Aloha From Hawaii (although the entire Elvis album contained material recorded before the Aloha show). The album, which sold over one million copies worldwide, was recorded at Stax Studios in Memphis, Tennessee in July 1973 and at Presley's home in Palm Springs, California in September 1973. Two songs from these sessions would be retained for release on the Good Times album the following spring. The initial vocal tracks were recorded in July 1973. Raised on Rock backed by For Ol' Times Sake was the only single released from the album, reaching #41 on the Billboard chart and #42 on the Country chart in September 1973.

    Tribal

Last summer Imelda May became a mother for the first time. You might expect her to turn to singing ballads. You would be horribly wrong.

"There are no lullabies on this album," laughs the lady who's brought rockabilly back into fashion sixty years after it was kicked into life by young men like
Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent and Jerry Lee Lewis.

"Tribal" is as primal a rock 'n' roll record as you could ever find, infused with the spirit of Sun Studios, where the sound was born in Memphis, Tennessee -
but given a 21st century kick up the butt by a girl from the back streets of Dublin.

Tribal" - her third album, following "Love Tattoo" and the Top Ten hit "Mayhem" - is her punchiest yet.

The songs on "Tribal" are infused with the rebel spirit that launched rock 'n' roll on an unsuspecting world way back in the mid-1950s, but also the rebel
spirit of the punk bands Imelda admired growing up in Dublin in the late 1970s as the youngest of five siblings - The Clash and The Undertones, The
    Buzzcocks and The Cramps.

The motto for the way Imelda lives her life is the title of her new single 'It's Good To Be Alive'. "I wrote it in the early hours of the morning one day after I
had the baby," she reveals. "I was sleep-deprived and feeling very exhausted. I looked out of the window, watched the sun rise through the trees and felt
    - God, it's good to be alive!"

Other song titles sum up Imelda's zest for life. 'It's Good To Be Alive'. 'I Wanna Dance'. 'Wicked Way'. 'Wild Woman'. Especially the latter, with its chorus:
"There's a wild woman livin' inside of me/A wicked, wicked wild woman, dyin' to be free". "You see people toning it down and becoming more responsible
as they get older. But inside, there's still the lunatic inside"
