DB Technology (Double Brace Technology)
Mass absorbs energy - lost energy equals lost music!
Rega has pioneered the use of lightweight rigid plinths. Clever use of lightweight particulate core with a highly rigid phenolic resin skin became the foundations of the high level of performance achieved by the now iconic original Planar range.
The new Planar 3 takes this design philosophy to the next level. A lightweight acrylic laminated plinth strengthened using a new improved double brace system mounted specifically where the increased rigidity is required (between the tonearm mounting and the main hub bearing) which forms a structurally sound stressed beam assembly. This rigid plinth design prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonance, which will add unnatural distortions to the music.
Equally, heavier mass can transfer more unwanted energy, such as motor or bearing noise directly into the rotating record. The use of braces instead of the complete skin allows double thickness phenolic resin in these key areas while providing further weight reduction to the plinth which directly addresses the issue of mass absorption and unwanted energy transmission.
Hand assembled RB330 tonearm.

Black Radio, Volume 2On their 2012 breakout Black Radio, Robert Glasper Experiment laid out a new paradigm for creative music, reaching beyond entrenched genre boundaries to create a singular vision that drew from all reaches of contemporary black music and beyond. Black Radio drew unanimous praise from critics across the board and earned Glasper the highest chart positions of his career when the album debuted at #10 on Billboard's Top Current Albums chart, also claiming the #1 spot on both the Billboard Jazz chart and the iTunes R&B chart. The album kept earning accolades all the way to the 2013 GRAMMY Awards where Black Radio was awarded Best R&B Album.
In 2013, RGE ups the ante with the release of Black Radio 2 (Blue Note), another genre-defying effort that takes the Black Radio blueprint and builds to even greater heights. The core remains the Experiment, as astoundingly versatile a band as has ever existed, featuring Robert Glasper on keyboards, Derrick Hodge on bass, Mark Colenburg on drums, and Casey Benjamin on vocoder and saxophone. Providing the vocals throughout is another jaw-dropping roll call of vocalists including Common, Patrick Stump, Brandy, Jill Scott, Dwele, Marsha Ambrosius, Anthony Hamilton, Faith Evans, Norah Jones, Snoop Dogg, Lupe Fiasco, Luke James, Emeli SandÉ, Lalah Hathaway, and Malcolm-Jamal Warner.
On Black Radio 2, the emphasis is on songwriting with 11 of the 12 tracks new originals, from the soaring lead track "I Stand Alone" featuring rapper Common and vocalist Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy through Jill Scott's sensual ode to connection "Calls" to the reinvention fantasy "Somebody Else" featuring BRIT Award winner Emeli SandÉ. The lone cover is the album closer, a spine-tingling version of Stevie Wonder's "Jesus Children of America" by vocalist Lalah Hathaway that also features a poignant spoken word tribute to the 20 young victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting by poet Malcolm-Jamal Warner. The album was produced by Glasper along with executive producers Nicole Hegeman and Eli Wolf.1. Baby Tonight (Black Radio Intro)

In July of 2012, RVNG Intl. was invited to participate in Bulletin Boards, a group
exhibition at Venus over manhattan curated by White Columns' gallery director matthew
Higgs. An extension of an ongoing project which resides in the entrance of White
Columns' downtown New York gallery, Bulletin Boards featured 24 artists/entities, each
given a new bulletin board as an inspirational starting point.
In 1981, David Van Tieghem produced the experimental music video Ear To The
Ground. The film features Van Tieghem "playing" downtown New York City, a world
in which Van Tieghem established his rhythmic roots as a member of the love of life

We also invited ten younger musicians to post objects to the board. A cross section of

In place of business cards, broadsheets, and flyers, the objects/communications
contributed were broken toasters, firecrackers, 2x4s, thunder drums and customized
electronics, each intended as a percussive device. On opening night, the bulletin board,
disguised as assemblage, welcomed David's dialogue.
In the spirit of Ear To The Ground's infinite conversation, Van Tieghem returned to
Venus Over Manhattan to "play" the bulletin board without an audience. The process
of Van Tieghem discovering and responding to the objects/bulletins again was multitracked in high definition.
These recordings were then presented to the ten contributing musicians for further
translation, "remix" and interpretation. For the final sequence, the unique pieces were
delivered to Van Tieghem to edit and embellish as the sound collages presented as Fits

Changing LightOn her fifth solo album, Mirah breaks it down and builds it back up
again with the street smarts that only years behind the wheel of
love can inspire. Ready with the maps and driven to the rhythms
on the radio dial, Changing Light's ten songs carry us from
heartbreak to wholeness and all the places in between.
Uprooted from her home after a scorching break-up, Mirah spent
four years rambling and recording. Tracks were laid down in almost
two dozen houses and apartments - from the Northwest to
Southern California to the East Coast. Sparse demos were
recorded with co-producer Christopher Doulgeris in Portland and
Los Angeles. Embellishments were then added by a slew of friends
and collaborators, including Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), Mary
Timony, Emily Wells, and Heather McEntire (Mount Moriah). In
Philadelphia, Mirah and her sister Emily Zeitlyn (Divers) penned
"LC," an homage to childhood inspiration Leonard Cohen.
Seattle-based composer Jherek Bischoff drew up intricate string
arrangements which were recorded in the living rooms of each
individual player. And Tune-Yards producer Eli Crews
co-produced several tracks with Mirah in her new hometown of
Brooklyn, New York.
Changing Light's reassuring compass is found in Mirah's
shimmering vocals and incisive descriptions. There is yearning
("Gold Rush" and "Fleetfoot Ghost") and hot anger ("Goat
Shepherd"), but no shortage of lyrical and musical playfulness.
Whether it be the T. Rex-inspired rough edges of "Radiomind,"
the rollicking lo-fi bang-and-pop of "Goat Shepherd," or the lush
pop balladry of "Turned the Heat Off," the album corrals string
sections and vintage synths with horns, a multitude of guitar tones
and overdriven drums. With calm and clamor, Mirah brings us all
closer together through her universal honesty and occasional use
of the vocoder.
"It's a break-up record. It has some moments of darkness, some
twists and turns , but ultimately, there's a resolution," says Mirah.
So much can happen in four years, even forgiveness"

over a decade, Changing Light is the debut release on her new

UnlearnNamed after the rival child gang leaders from the 1994 movie War Of The Buttons, Fergus And Geronimo's music is at times both focused and loose, and comes from a wide range of unexpected influences. At the core of the group is Jason Kelly and Andrew Savage, who met while Kelly was recording and mixing a record for Teenage Cool Kids, a band started by Savage. During that four month process of recording, Kelly and Savage bonded over music, the creative process of recording, and the possibility of having a band that draws from a variety of sources. Black and Chicano doo-wop, the energy and atmosphere of classic soul, the precise control of Frank Zappa, psychedelia, and a thought to nearly everything in between.
Unlearn is the group's first full-length after releasing a handful of singles on various labels over the past two years. Unlearn is an 11-track history lesson on the world of popular music with lush R&B harmonies, authentic rock and roll energy, and a fair share of experimentation. Both members share writing duties and play and sing everything on the record, with the exception of Elyse Schrock's vocals on the title track, and Casey Carpenter and Monet Robbins on flute and sax, respectively. We went out of our way to treat every song as its own and to give each song different tones and atmosphere, says Kelly. This concept pays off like a jackpot, with each song as a unique piece of a patchwork quilt that fits all of the sounds and styles together like a brilliant puzzle. Unlearn at times sounds old and at times new, but always authentic and informed.1. Girls With English Accents

Alive At Brushy Mountain State PenitentiaryUntil it closed in 2009, Tennessee's Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary was one of the most notorious penal institutions in America. Located in mountainous Petros, it was a forbidding rockpile hewn out of the rough countryside by its own inmates in 1896.
On Oct. 17, 2001, Mark Collie came to Brushy Mountain with a sheaf of newly written songs about crime and punishment and an all-star band for a pair of performances that were recorded for a live album release. Mostly, though, Collie showed up at Brushy Mountain with a mission.
God gave me the opportunity to get in there and share something that might make a difference, he says. I believed the songs could matter. I wanted to make something that people could find hope in, or redemption, or restoration, or forgiveness.
His close friendship with country icon Johnny Cash supplied the principal inspiration for his own prison recording. Collie was well aware of Cash's celebrated 1968-69 live albums recorded at California's Folsom and San Quentin penitentiaries. He also knew the impact that a 1959 performance at the latter facility had on Inmate #A-45200, better known as the legendary country star Merle Haggard. Without Johnny going to San Quentin, Collie says, there might not have been a Merle Haggard. A lot of lives were changed or made better as a result of that music. Collie began writing his own cycle of prison songs.
A top-flight crew of musicians was assembled, including guitarist Dave Grissom (John Mellencamp, Joe Ely), keyboardist Mike Utley (Jimmy Buffett, the Dixie Flyers), guitarist-mandolinist Tommy Burroughs (Memphis Riverbluff Clan), Collie's longtime accordionist Hassel Tekkle, bassist Willie Weeks (the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, B.B. King), drummer Chad Cromwell (Neil Young, Mark Knopfler), and guitarist-fiddler-vocalist and solo star Shawn Camp. Austin-based critics darling Kelly Willis, who takes lead vocals on two tracks, also supplied backup vocals on several numbers; the late Texas blues giant Clarence Gatemouth Brown is the album's other special guest.
Alive at Brushy Mountain embraces a breadth of American styles - country, blues, gospel, bluegrass, and rock n roll. It largely comprises striking original material, which contemplates the convict's lot with compassion, keen detail, and sometimes boisterous humor.LP 1

Digging In The Dust: Home Recordings 1976Songwriter/guitarist Mark Fosson grew up in Kentucky, where he began writing songs while he was still in his early teens. In the late '70s he sent some song demos to John Fahey's West Coast-based Takoma Records, and Fahey, impressed with what he heard, offered Fosson a recording deal. Fosson lost no time in relocating to Los Angeles and began recording with Fahey, but as bad luck would have it, Takoma was in some difficulty, and the label soon folded. Fahey allowed Fosson to retain the master tapes of the sessions, however.
Now located on the West Coast, Fosson met fellow songwriter Edward Tree, and the two began working together, eventually forming the Bum Steers, a country-tinged group, in the late '80s. Fosson material appeared on several soundtracks through the 1990s. In 2001 he began collaborating with singer/songwriter Lisa O'Kane, who recorded several of his songs, and Fosson also began recording a solo project, Jesus on a Greyhound, which was eventually released on Big Otis Records. The record drew positive reviews and Fosson was frequently compared to Americana artists like Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Joe Ely, John Prine, and Guy Clark.
The Fahey material finally saw the light of day as The Lost Takoma Sessions from Drag City Records in 2006. His instrumental piece Another Fine Day is featured on the critically acclaimed Tompkins Square compilation Imaginational Anthem. Now Tompkins Square has put together more hard to come by but welcome material from this gifted artist with the collection Digging In The Dust: Home Recordings 1976, an 11-track set of home recordings Fosson made circa 1976.1. Stranded In Arcadia (Out of Stock)Considered as one of the greats of the European stoner rock scene, France based MARS RED SKY have gained international recognition thanks to a unique sound imprint based on thick infectious grooves and melodic aerial guitar riffs. This is truly a one of a kind experience, wrapped up by Julien Pras' ethereal vocals, Matgaz' powerful rhythms and Jimmy Kinast's pachydermic bass lines. Somewhere between
doom metal and 70's psyche pop, the Mars Red Sound intrigues to begin with, after which it irremediably attracts the masses to celebrate this cosmic ritual of solar burning fuzz and reverberated atmospheres. Driven by the huge success of their eponymous debut record, which was recorded in Spain's mystic Bardenas desert and released in 2011 , the Bordelais were quickly invited to play on the largest European stages with KYUSS Lives !, DINAUSOR JR, SLEEP, and popular festivals
such as EurockÉennes de Belfort ( FR ), Roadburn ( NL ), London ( UK ) and Berlin ( DE ) Desertfests, Sziget Festival ( HUN ), SXSW ( USA ), leading them to play in more than 20 countries. With their incredibly heavy and hypnotic performances, MARS RED SKY have been considered as one of the most thrilling live acts among the international stoner rock scene. In 2012, they paired up with French doom
metal monsters YEAR OF NO LIGHT to release a 3-track split record, which sells out in a blink of an eye. The release of their EP "Be My guide" in the spring of 2013 prophetically opened the path for an extensive tour across Europe, then across the Atlantic Ocean for a few exciting gigs in Latin America, where they recorded their new album : "Stranded in Arcadia" .1. The World Is Real (Out Of Stock)LAKE's comprehensive pop vision has always been anchored in an honest mournfulness, a sensitivity to nature, and the vulnerability of life. These mark
LAKE's more down tempo, contemplative grooves, which are given their fullest voice yet on The World Is Real, LAKE's fourth album for K and sixth overall.
It follows 2008's Oh, the Places We'll Go, 2009's Let's Build A Roof, and 2011's Giving & Receiving, and was similarly recorded at Dub Narcotic Studio at K headquarters in their hometown of Olympia, Washington.
The songwriting partnership of Ashley Eriksson and Eli Moore is the locus of LAKE's creative engine, but the additional members are as integral and
longstanding. They are the diversely talented Andrew Dorsett, Markly Morisson, and Lindsay Schief. The creative sound that surrounds LAKE is storied in collaboration, sonic adventure and an allegiance to exploring the limits of crafting pop songs. They have toured, recorded and allied with some of the most pioneering figures in contemporary independent music: R. Stevie Moore, Chris Cohen, Karl Blau, and Phil Elverum's Mt. Eerie, for example.
Lead track Do You Recall? offers wide and subtle nods to working-class 80's classics like Mellencamp's Jack & Diane, or Hornsby's The Way It Is. Featuring drum machine and nostalgic guitar riffs, the lead and group vocals float through droning synths like wind to a bounded world.
Dog in the Desert one of the album's centerpieces, was initially inspired by the text-works of conceptual artist, Richard Long, and his "art made by walking in landscapes" (richardlong.org). Eriksson's voice, and the dark plodding instrumentation of the song, take Long's images and shape them into a meditation on abandonment, loss and reconciliation with nature.
Tellingly, the earthbound bass groove on Dog in the Desert is a quotation of Steely Dan's Black Cow. It is not the only song to directly live sample Fagen and Becker: Perfect Fit mashes up the chordal rhythms of Peg to excellent effect.
It's clear that LAKE enjoys to boldly tread and rework the classics in this way, most notably in Mark Morrison's first personal LAKE offering Takin' My Time, a direct reference to the Isley Brothers song "Caravan of Love." This smooth R&B pop seducer - a wild crowd favorite at LAKE's local Olympia outings - is a bit of an aside from The World Is Real's more meditative core.
Other highlights on The World Is Real: Bury the House takes its 60's styled psychedelic setting for a playful, self-deprecating riff on LAKE's own new age-y ideals: Bury the house / under the garden / make an attempt to go outside. Composure and "I Wish For You" have the pop attributes of Pet Sounds and Smile era Beach Boys - faintly forlorn, but still warm and sweet. And the community oriented compassion exhibited by LAKE's members is beautifully summarized in the opening lines of album closer Reconcile: How do we exist under the sun
but not in bliss? / What could have been? / Act on it.
Lovers of hybrid pop will hear the bright whirring electronic keys that notably set McCartney II apart from the rest of Paul's catalog, as well as the bittersweet organ and keyboard influence of Yo La Tengo, and the minimalist funk of Talking Heads on
this record. However, precise comparison is difficult: The World is Real avoids easy genre comparisons. An album full of the articulation of discontent and loss, LAKE captures these emotions in tandem with the pop music joys they have so expertly reigned in for many years.1. Do You Recall?

Ride (Out of Stock)Produced by Wayne and his longtime producer/collaborator Lloyd Maines (Uncle Tupelo,
Wilco, Dixie Chicks, Joe Ely), Ride further cements Wayne's life-long calling ["All I want to do is play the Joints 'til the day I die"] as a modernday traditionalist through his signature mÉlange of roadhouse blues, hepcat boogie, rockabilly,
and juke joint swing. As Hank III once said, "Wayne
Hancock has more Hank Sr. in him than either I or Hank Williams Jr. He is the real deal."
Ride is built on a vibe that is at once more direct and personal than those of his previous Bloodshot releases Viper of Melody (2009), Tulsa (2006),
Swing Time (2003), and A-Town Blues (2001). "The
album is an organic reaction to life's challenges ... these are not sad songs," the South TX native
said of his 8th overall album and 5th for Bloodshot.1. Ride
