    Valuables

Enemies are an experimental indie rock four-piece from Kilcoole, Ireland who surprise their listeners with every release by constantly tweaking and perfecting their own brand of intelligent, pop-infused rock, and latest single itsallwaves is no exception to this ethic. Not content to fit neatly into any particular category or sub-genre, Enemies are continuously evolving their sound into something that goes beyond the labels of math or post-rock.

Their new album entitled Valuables is the band's third and final full-length record. With the announcement that Enemies will dissolve after its release, Valuables documents a turbulent time for the band -- an intense writing and recording process and touring life that would eventually lead the members to decide that their long-standing friendships are more valuable than anything else.

Swan Lake is the musical collaboration of Daniel Bejar (Destroyer, New Pornographers), Spencer Krug (Sunset Rubdown, Wolf Parade), and Carey Mercer (Frog Eyes, Blackout Beach). While their debut was a beautifully weaved mash up of disparate songwriting styles, this second effort reflects a more stripped down, deliberate approach to collaboration. It's as if they really tried to just make nice songs together. LP contains digital download coupon.

    There Is No Enemy

When making the new Built To Spill album There Is No Enemy, Doug Martsch literally lived in the studio working all day and night. He spent hours and hours laying down guitar tracks he realized he couldn't use since the first live takes had the best tone and feel. He had to undigitally remix the record. There Is No Enemy has the sound and feel of the album that every Built To Spill fan has been anxiously awaiting.

In addition to Martsch and his usual support, There Is No Enemy includes guest spots from Sam Coomes, ex-Treepeople co-guitarist/vocalist Scott Schmaljohn, Butthole Surfer Paul Leary, Roger Manning, etc.

"I didn't plan this album to sound violent, it's just the sound that came out of the studio, a kind of build up over the last 4 years," says Liam Howlett of the upcoming LP. Enemy/Lover

Dreamers of the Ghetto are a family band from Bloomington, IN, consisting of brothers Luke and Jonathan Jones, Luke's wife, Lauren and Marty Sprowles. After teasing blogs with enigmatic, homemade video clips for the past year, Indiana's most promising and perhaps most eccentric group finally unleashes their debut album, the stunning Enemy/Lover mixed by Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket).

Dreamers of the Ghetto marries the sentiment of classic '80s film soundtracks to minimalist, romantic dream-rock, creating a unique environment that becomes almost instantly addicting. The triumphant, reach-for-the-stars attitude of veterans like U2 and Depeche Mode is paired with the gospel splendor of Spiritualized and ominous austerity of The xx, all carried by what Shaking Through calls the most amazing singer we've seen since Sharon Van Etten.

Dreamers of the Ghetto have mined a sound that is both timeless and nostalgic, and theyve done so with an earnest fearlessness and refreshing lack of irony. They are true, pure, and unbelievably powerful.

Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) stars as Napoleon Solo opposite Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as Illya Kuryakin in director Guy Ritchie's The Man From U.N.C.L.E., a fresh take on the hugely popular 1960s television series.

Ivor Novello winning and multi-BAFTA nominated composer Daniel Pemberton (a.o. The Awakening and the Sundance Jury winning Enemies Of The People) created an exciting soundtrack with relaxing lounge instrumentals full of Jazz and Swing elements. Pemberton has also scored countless Emmy, BAFTA, Grierson and RTS winning comedies, documentaries and lifestyle shows and worked with Oscar winning directors and editors.

You, Whom I Have Always Hated

The Body and Thou are bands with Southern roots that have been pushing the boundaries of heavy metal for over a decade. Both have maintained relentless touring schedules, a dedication to DIY ethics and aesthetics, and a commitment to push their respective brands of extreme music into previously unexplored territories. You, Whom I Have Always Hated is a new collaborative release that showcases both bands' unique abilities to create music that is emotionally effecting and unrelenting.

On You, Whom I Have Always Hated, each band's distinctive elements shine through and combine to create something more visceral than the sum of their parts. While the groups have different approaches to live performance and stylistic nuances, they share general creative ideas and have a history subsumed in themes of alienation, melancholy, and despair. They describe the new collaboration as "a twilight dungeon crawl exploring the winding, ruined halls of Mad King Duro's Castle, best friends at your side, enemies crushed beneath your heels, mysteries solved, and treasures found."

In keeping with Thou's tradition of 90s worship and The Body's knack for ingenuity, the release includes versions of "Terrible Lie" by Nine inch Nails and "Coward" by Vic Chesnutt. The remainder was written collaboratively in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and then further refined on their 2014 tour together. The tour culminated in a performance at the Gilead Metal Fest in July. The Body and Thou plan to reunite in the latter half of 2015 for some more D&D and possibly even some touring.

    Will To Power

Time passes, the world changes, but some things remain constant and unassailable. Heavy metal has endured for more than four decades because its spirit is eternal, and few bands embody the intensity, integrity and lofty artistic ambitions of the genre with more dazzling aplomb than Arch Enemy. Formed in Sweden in the mid-90s by former Carcass/Carnage guitarist Michael Amott, this most explosive and proficient of modern metal bands have spent the last 20 years propagating an unerring creed of technical excellence, songwriting genius and thunderous, irresistible live performance, accruing a huge global fan base along the way. And now, in 2017, Arch Enemy are ready to rise again and climb ever further up the ladder toward pure metal supremacy.

Always focused but impervious to other's rules and expectations, Arch Enemy evolved once more in 2015 following the departure of Angela Gossow (now the band's manager). Replacing one of the most iconic vocalists of the modern age was never going to be easy, but in the shape of former The Agonist frontwoman Alissa White-Gluz, Arch Enemy found the perfect candidate. Unveiled on the ferocious, anthem-laden triumph of 2014's War Eternal, Alissa's powerful identity and extraordinary vocal talents proved a natural and instantly welcomed fit. Further extensive touring cemented the new line-up's thrilling efficacy, before one final line-up change - the arrival of legendary guitarist Jeff Loomis, formerly of Nevermore - completed the musical puzzle that Amott had been tinkering with for the best part of 20 years.

Recorded in 2017, the tenth Arch Enemy album will be unleashed later in 2017 and promises to be the ultimate statement of heavy metal supremacy from a band that are still growing in stature as the years fall away. Will To Power will be the first album the band have recorded with their current line-up and as Michael Amott explains, diehard fans will be both thrilled to hear their favourite band on top form and somewhat surprised by their latest creative explorations.

"The goal is always to raise the bar yet again and create an epic masterpiece!" he laughs. "I think the album has a great balance between traditional Arch Enemy and some new influences that come through here and there. The most surprising thing on this album is that we've written our first ever ballad. It's still a very metal song, but there's no way around the fact that it is a ballad and that might be quite controversial for a band like us, I guess. I'm excited to hear what our fans will think of that one, but I do feel that we can afford to spread our wings a bit on our tenth studio album!"

Once Will To Power hits the streets, Arch Enemy will do what they do best, hitting the road and taking their latest batch of heroic metal anthems to the people. Achieving longevity is the toughest challenge that faces any band, but Arch Enemy have long since established themselves as a permanent fixture on the global metal scene and as standard bearers for upholding and celebrating of the heavy metal code. Right now, in 2017, no other band embodies the spirit of the genre with such flair and euphoric zeal. Long may their steel spirit prevail.

"It's always been about creating the best songs we can make and whatever success we've had is a direct result of the music speaking to people and our relentless worldwide touring," Michael grins. "We are happy with the fact that the band has had growth spurt these last couple of years and it's exciting to put on a bigger and more complete live show for our fans. We obviously hope our fans will enjoy Will To Power and we're looking forward to getting back out there and performing live again, with a whole bunch of killer new tunes up our sleeve!"

    Living The Dream?

The masterpiece Living The Dream? is the result of Common Enemy's long time line-up and new vocalist Gary Critical's instant writing chemistry. Producing 20 Punk Rock anthems about Skating, Partying, and Politics for 2009, the band invited Suicide Machines/ Hellmouth singer Jason Navarro to the party to guest on the title track. The formative years started in 1997 by brothers Tank on drums and Justin on guitar. Focusing their beer goggles in 2004 with the edition of Greg Disoder on Bass and releasing the acclaimed Late Night Skate CD. Touring road miles, empty beer cans, broken decks, and members numbers all mounted, CE started gaining a fanatical and frenzied fanbase that was finally sticking to their grip tape. Treking all over North America and 3 trips to Europe to support Late Night Skate and the follow-up Thrashing Under The Influence aka T.U.I have cemented CE their well respected place in the DIY Punk scene. Living The Dream? will be an instant underground classic!

It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back

Ranked 78/500 On Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time.

    25th Anniversary

I hated that record, said Public Enemy's Chuck D. Believe it or not, he's referring to Bring the Noise, the frenetic first track of It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, the group's 1988 agit-rap masterpiece and breakthrough album. Public Enemy had recorded the song in October 1987 for the soundtrack of the forgettable Less Than Zero. When Chuck (a.k.a. Carlton Ridenhour) first heard the final version, he said, I practically threw it out the window.

He changed his mind later that year when Public Enemy were on tour in England. I kept hearing people ask, 'What's this record you've got out? People are going crazy over it,' he remembered. I was like 'OK, pull that acetate out, and let's play it [in concert].' People went berserk.

Bring the Noise, along with Rebel Without a Pause and Don't Believe the Hype - all conceived in 1987 at the group's Hempstead, Long Island, studio, Spectrum City - would become the foundation of It Takes a Nation of Millions, an album that's loud, obnoxious, funky, avant-garde, political, uncompromising and hilarious all at once. Chuck may have been disgruntled over Bring the Noise, but he always liked Rebel Without a Pause, the track that introduced Public Enemy's trademark sirenlike horn squeals. Hank Shocklee of PE's production team, the Bomb Squad, says that Rebel started out as a response to Eric B. and Rakim's I Know You Got Soul. We were going for something that had the same feel but with more aggression, Shocklee said. Because we were angry.

For Rebel, PE coupled piercing squeals (a snippet from the J.B.'s' The Grunt played backward) with James Brown's Funky Drummer (Because that song was my milk, said Shocklee). Then it fell on Chuck to write the lyrics. I remember locking myself in the house for 24 hours, Chuck said. He emerged with verses that emulated Rakim's off-the-rhythm flow but stayed true to his own booming-baritone persona (Soul, rock & roll, comin' like a rhino); Chuck also dropped the name of black activist Joanne Chesimard, hinting at the political direction that his rhymes would soon take.

Don't Believe the Hype, recorded just before Bring the Noise, was Chuck's first foray into full-fledged polemics, in this case against the media. The lyrics were inspired by a slight against Chuck by New York-area radio DJ Mr. Magic. PE had serious doubts about that song, too. We thought 'Hype' was just garbage, said Shocklee. Again, they saw the response the song got when DMC (of the group Run-DMC) blasted the track out of his Bronco in Harlem on a Saturday night. The whole block was grooving to it, says Shocklee.

In January 1988, it all fit together. You had the combination of the noise from 'Rebel,' says Chuck, the tempo of 'Bring the Noise' and the subject matter of 'Don't Believe the Hype.' It set off Takes a Nation pretty nice.
