ColonyLike their countrymen Entombed, In Flames add the familiar influence (and sense of groove) of classic heavy metal to their extreme death metal sounds, as well as progressive instrumental interludes that help lend a feel of epic drama to their music. Colony's arrangements experiment with sound effects, melodic guitar leads, varied textures, and Hammond organ, adding more detail, contrast, and dramatic structure to the rush of their onslaught and making it a definite step forward for the group.

Kur-Nu-Gi-APICTURE DISC REISSUE OF EDGE OF SANITYS FIRST PROPER DEMO ORIGINALLY RELEASED IN 1990
Edge of Sanity's first proper demo KUR-NU-GI-A was recorded and released in 1990. It sold well beyond any expectations and gave the band a good reputation in the growing Metal underground. After the release of the demo the band signed to Black Mark and within a year the band had their debut album 'Nothing But Death remains' released.
Singer/Producer Dan Swano had this to say about the release:
I always felt we grew up a bit too fast, We got caught up in the growing Death Metal scene and tuned down the guitars and bought the 'right' distortion pedals and tried to be the new Entombed. This demo showcases the original sound of Edge of Sanity. During this period we still listened to a lot of progressive and challenging metal of all kinds and I still believe the songs have their true version on this demo. I transferred the original 4 track cassette masters, using state of the art digital technology, and remixed them and finally gave them the sound I dreamt of giving them 21 years ago. The dream of finally having this classic recording released on 12 picture disc has come true. While digging in the vaults, I found a lot more interesting stuff, so expect more 'post mortem' release from Edge of Sanity.SIDE A

Back To The FrontExplaining the relevance and influence of ENTOMBED is probably as superfluous as pointing out why Slayer rule, Lemmy is bigger than God and Dio the greatest loss in metal history. A legend is a legend. Fullstop. F**k off!
If you still require a proper explanation that is less shot from the hip, well let us start with this: The Swedish Death Metal forefathers and genre innovators have inspired tons of bands all around the globe with their invincible trademark sound. However, as the band's last album "Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments" dates back to 2007, there is definitely more than a good reason for a bit of catch-up and ask why it took so long to finish the band's superb 10th opus, programmatically titled "Back To the Front", vocalist extraordinaire L-G Petrov states:
""Serpents " was a fairly good album but a little weak compared to previous works and the distribution wasn't that great yet we continued playing shows throughout the past years but never really got going with new songs. At some point we decided that it was time for a new album, so we sat down and played riffs that we had from before as well as many new riffs and started putting them together which really sparked our motivation. That really gave us a push! We feel that this is the best album so far in many years and I think you can hear it on the album!"
Thematically, the will and determination to back up such words with fantastic songs is reflected in the powerful album title and part of the concept of the record as guitarist Nico Elgstrand describes:
"A lot of the album is about being at war in different ways and struggles/shortcomings of mankind, so we felt that "Back To The Front" fitted really well. It has a military reference obviously and we also feel like a platoon (ha ha, a small platoon) that has been behind the frontlines for a long time anxious to get back into battle. Not mean and lean but rather fat and bored and really keen on getting back to what we do best, which of course is to kill! Metaphorically speaking needless to say, ha ha. Also it is a very direct way of saying we've been away for way too long, we know and that we will now aim to stay at the front until the friggin' battle is won! The cavalry has finally arrived if you will (without horses though, ha ha)!"
Well spoken, Sir, yet expectations will be incredibly high on this one as ENTOMBED's roots and legacy goes way back into the year 1987 when they formed under the name NIHILIST. In 1989 the formation changed its name to ENTOMBED and together with Morbid (for whom singer LG played drums), Treblinka/Tiamat, Grave and Dismember, ENTOMBED/NIHILIST established themselves among the earliest bands to forge the immortal Swedish death metal sound that became really popular and unique due to its punkish roots and especially that chainsaw guitar sound, today inseparably linked to terms like "Skogsberg", "Sunlight Studio" or just "Stockholm sound". Inspired by such diverse acts as Autopsy, Motörhead, Discharge or Kiss, over the years ENTOMBED did not shy away from thinking outside of the coffin resulting in a style some fans called Death'n'Roll but in the end it was, is and will be just a band with a style and impact entirely their own.
So, what awaits the listener on "Back To The Front"? Produced by Roberto Laghi (In Flames, Hardcore Superstar) at Studio Bohus (Abba, Europe) in KunÄlv, it's 666% true to the ENTOMBED everybody loves. While not falling for total regression back to the early classics "Left Hand Path" or "Clandestine", it is a total bone-crushing opus that will have fans of all periods cry tears of joy and even the most stubborn fan of the early days join in shame. "The goal was to have riffs that felt fresh and exciting, to make an album that felt old school as well as fresh and up to date, showing who ENTOMBED are today," L-G puts it quite simply and Nico continues: "I thoroughly enjoy the fact that I find it super hard to pick 2 or 3 songs as the best of it, because i really like 'em all. I think that they all have something new and fresh yet it feels very old school in some way. "Kill To Live" with its surprising ENTOMBED-intro turned out very cool and the track also has an almost cinematic yet classic metal feel to it, dunno why, but it just invigorates me. "Second To None" kinda makes me wanna drive a tank while listening, and that to me is how proper metal should sound! It makes you wanna do mighty things so to speak!"
From the morbid, pissed-off lyrics over detuned, massive riffs to the inimitable brick-heavy groove and LG Petrov's titanic roar, "Back To The Front" not only musically but also visually with its stunning painting by Necropolitus Cracoviensis Zbgniew Bielak II (Watain, Ghost, Vader) seems to send a respectful nod to the old school as L-G confirms: "The skull will always be a part of ENTOMBED. I totally agree, we have taken away some of the rock parts and gone with more metal, and I think fans new and old will appreciate that."
With European touring under way in December with label mates and black metal genre leaders WATAIN - vocalist Erik actually penned lyrics for the song "Carnage" (from "When In Sodom" EP, 2006) - and former band member Nicke Andersson contributed parts to the new song "Vulture And The Traitor", the Swedish metal platoon ENTOMBED anno 2013 has all its weapons polished and reloaded and is ready to shatter the entire music scene with an uncompromising full frontal assault. So, let us all enjoy "Back To The Front" and celebrate the fact that the legend called ENTOMBED has finally returned. Goddamn!1. Kill To Live

Tierra Y LibertadThe Pomona California five-piece, infamous for their deliriously heavy hardcore death metal, are proving once again that their colossal clout outweighs the sum of their contemporaries. Tierra Y Libertad finds XIBALBA in their most threatening form yet, forcibly colliding elite '90s death metal with reckless down-tuned doom tones and their most fist-swinging beatdowns yet. The breakdown has become XIBALBA's crippling modus operandi, refined over the course of their career and re-envisioned as a new terrifying beast, creating a nefarious intensity on Tierra Y Libertad usually only reserved for majestic black metal, transcendental doom and post-metal, but here hewn from furious violence.
Across forty-five minutes and eight tracks of brutality, XIBALBA claries their disregard for the recommended dosage of unholy stomp that a listener could possibly take, made all the more devastating by the returning hand of Taylor Young (Nails, Twitching Tongues, Disgrace) behind the recording controls at The Pit in Van Nuys. Similarly, XIBALBA called upon Dan Seagrave (Dismember, Entombed, Suffocation) to create Tierra Y Libertad's cover artwork, as with Hasta La Muerte.1. Enemigo

David Gilmour - Live at PompeiiLive At Pompeii is the project from David Gilmour, and follows his critically acclaimed studio album Rattle That Lock from September of 2015.
Following the release of Rattle That Lock in 2015, David Gilmour set out to play a series of concerts in historic venues across the world. On July 7th and 8th, 2016, David Gilmour performed two spectacular shows at the legendary Pompeii Amphitheatre in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, 45 years after he first played there for Adrian Maben's classic film Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii. The concerts were the first-ever rock performances played to an audience in the ancient Roman amphitheatre, which was built in 90 BC and entombed in ash when Vesuvius erupted in AD 79. David Gilmour is the only performer to play to an audience in the arena since the time of the gladiators, almost 2,000 years ago.
Speaking about the Pompeii shows David Gilmour commented 'It's a magical place and coming back and seeing the stage and the arena was quite overwhelming. It's a place of ghosts...'.LP 1

Nothing Violates This NatureBoston hardcore super group, and all-around ass kickers, All Pigs Must Die continue the onslaught that their debut album God Is War started with a healthy ten song offering of bludgeoning metal akin to felony assault with a lead pipe. As is the common theme of a healthy minority of the roster that California label Southern Lord has cultivated, All Pigs Must Die's sophomore LP Nothing Violates This Nature grabs you by the balls instantly in the opener "Chaos Arise", as if the schizophrenic and lightening quick hi-hat count off from Ben Koller the instant after hitting the play button isn't subtle enough. As you can imagine from the band name, Nothing Violates This Nature lacks any form of subtlety in its sonic barrage of hate-filled anthems, chalk full of ferocity, violence, aggression, and nihilism. Taking about as much influence from the recent trend of aggressive Entombed worship metal groups, to the "fuck you"-attitude of Discharge punks, All Pigs Must Die cater to focused, yet highly devout following in a new wave of heavy music.
Nothing Violates This Nature rarely lets up on the gas pedal throughout its ten song length. Whether the quasi black metal tremolo opener of "Primitive Fear", to even the hauntingly acoustic opener "Of Suffering" before plummeting into a doom inspired dirge, Nothing Violates... runs the gamut of a plethora of extreme heavy metal genres, not necessarily reinventing the wheel by any means but still packing enough of a punch to appreciate its ferocity on every listen. That being said, Nothing Violates This Nature won't throw many curve balls your way, but for those in the need to get their fill of anger and aggression out this is most definitely the album to pick up and put on repeat. An ass kicking from top to bottom, All Pigs Must Die's sophomore album is rife full of killer with next to nil filler.

The Garden Of Unearthly DelightsMighty Doom icons CATHEDRAL from Coventry, England for sure are one of the most unique and unpredictable acts around. These legendary merchants of slow-motion sound could care less about redundant genre restrictions and have so far incorporated everything from Doom, Psych, Folk up to Funk in their works. With their eighth album The Garden Of Unearthly Delights CATHEDRAL have achieved much more than simply living up to that reputation - the guys created timeless songs that couldn`t be farther away from standardisation, stagnation and convention.
Produced by Warren Ryker (DOWN, CROWBAR), The Garden Of Unearthly Delights is probably the most varied effort of the band so far. While a song like 'North Berwick Witch Trials' will bring back memories of such immortal riffs`n`groove as in 'Hopkins' or 'Ride', 'Tree Of Life And Death' simply tears everything to pieces with its ultra-heavy guitar sound and fierce vocals courtesy of Lee Dorrian.
The centerpiece of it all certainly is the 27-minute-long mammoth epos 'The Garden' that almost bursts with such a wealth of ideas and changes in atmosphere that other bands probably couldn`t come up with on a whole album. Using every stylistic device from female vocals up to violins and embedding it all in that typical CATHEDRAL brand of Doom, The Garden Of Unearthly Delights is a treat for every fan of the band, old and new alike.
Starting with quite sinister and ultra-slow songs on the 1990 EP In Memorium and the full-length album Forest Of Equilibrium, CATHEDRAL quickly gained cult status. The 1992 follow-up EP Soul Sacrifice brought changes soundwise and saw the band mixing traditional Doom with 70s - Hardrock and showed a first glimpse of the trademarks CATHEDRAL still represent nowadays.
After having previously toured with MORBID ANGEL and SAINT VITUS, the band embarked on the legendary Gods Of Grind - Tour with ENTOMBED, CARCASS and CONFESSOR. „The Ethereal Mirror" featured alltime faves like 'Ride' and 'Midnight Mountain' and suddenly gave CATHEDRAL the reputation as „the next big thing in Metal".
Struggling with this label, the band started to experiment on the EP Statik Majik and probably tried out every single instrument they could lay their hands on to churn out a 20-minute-track like 'Voyage Of The Homeless Sapien'. After touring with BLACK SABBATH, the guys went on to record the landmark „The Carnival Bizarre" in 1996 that brought us immortal tunes such as 'Hopkins (The Witchfinder General)' and 'Utopian Blaster' - the latter featuring Tony Iommi on guitar. Supernatural Birth Machine was released in 1996 after touring in South America, Europe and Japan amongst others. The catchy songwriting on that album echoed on Caravan Beyond Redemption in 1998, but with a heavier twist to it. The next serious change in style occurred on the gloomy and sludgy Endtyme that went almost completely without sound experiments and concentrated on ultra-grim riffing. 2002`s The VIIth Coming combined catchiness with heaviness to form a well-balanced mixture between old and new CATHEDRAL.
Now that the English fourpiece has returned with The Garden Of Unearthly Delights it`s time to follow them for new adventures in sound1. Dearth AD

Transparent Red And Transparent Green Vinyl
UNSEEN FORCES is proud to present the complete motion picture soundtrack from Fede Alvarez's incendiary 2013 reimagining of cult horror masterpiece the EVIL DEAD. Spanish composer Roque Baños dazzles with a crisp modern orchestral score that bows reverently toward such genre classics as Jerry Goldsmith's The Omen Suite, Anton Webern and Krzysztof Penderecki's creepy string movements from The Exorcist and Joseph LoDuca's beautifully understated atmospherics for Sam Raimi's original creation that launched the grisly Kandarian franchise and revolutionized the contemporary horror film with its startling velocity.
Anxious purists need not fret. Baños studied music at the Upper Music Conservatory of Murcia and Madrid's Real Conservatorio Superior before graduating from Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music, but with EVIL DEAD he steps beyond the jazz influences evidenced in his previous scores. Here the maestro eloquently assumes the role of firestarter, conducting like a pyromaniac invoking the destructive majesty of flame - both demonic and cleansing - with smoldering strings and brass building toward total aural incineration. To that end, he cleverly employs a prominent siren motif that at turns suggests a dreadful fire alarm in slow motion, the nostalgia of an amusement park haunted house attraction and a prodigious yawning door somewhere in the deepest chasm of hell. A thoroughly cinematic experience suffused with sweeping overtures and jarring choral crescendos, Baños has created a dark and vital epic for the ages. DLP pressed to 140 gram gore splattered vinyl - with a locked groove for extended terror! - and entombed in a lavish gatefold cover, this gorgeous collection carves through the glut of overblown soundtrack reissues of late like a trusty chainsaw. Soulside Journey (Out Of Stock)Darkthrone began in the late 80's as a thrash/death metal act & progressed through technical death/doom metal experimentation to become legends of the black metal world & one of the original leading bands of the Norwegian scene, as well as inspiring a whole generation of metal bands.
Soulside Journey was Darkthrone's debut studio album after signing with Peaceville Records, following their cult Cromlech demo. It was recorded in
1990 at Sunlight Studios in Sweden with Tomas Skogsberg, notable for his work with Entombed & many other acts over the years. Soulside Journey contained tracks of atmospheric & often technical & complex death metal, with influences ranging from acts such as Autopsy & Death. This was the
band's only death metal album before turning to a more primitive black metal style, but is still rightly regarded as a masterpiece of the genre.1. Cromlech

The Headless Ritual (Out of Stock)Among the early breed of US death metal pioneers, Autopsy formed in 1987 in San Francisco and released four albums on Peaceville Records. Beginning with the classic debut 'Severed Survival' in 1989, they disbanded in 1995 with members going on to form Abscess. Autopsy triumphantly and officially returned from the grave after a 15 year
hiatus with the 2010 EP, 'The Tomb Within', followed by the release of the band's widely acclaimed fifth studio album, 'Macabre Eternal' in 2011, which further cemented the legacy of this legendary act.
2013 sees Autopsy return more sinister and rotten-to-the-core than ever with their new studio opus of horror and all-out madness, 'The Headless Ritual'; featuring the returning quartet of Chris Reifert, Eric Cutler, Danny Coralles, and Joe Trevisano. 'The Headless Ritual' is a relentless monster of violent and brutal death metal mastery delivered in the unmistakable Autopsy style of chaotic riffing, insane solos and doom-filled interludes, all served with the band's unhinged brand of vocal sickness.

Agnus Dei (Out Of Stock)There is something about The Secret's sound that seems to entomb the listener in an ominousness that is comparable to the view of a great storm approaching on the horizon. One could say that if 2004's Luce was that approaching storm, and follow-ups Disintoxication and Solve Et Coagula were the storm wreaking havoc, Agnus Dei is the disaster of what is left in the wake. The result of something cataclysmic, with all its destruction, atrocity, and bleakness, is often far worse than the cataclysm itself. This is where the quartet now stands musically.
While past albums have begun with a foreboding track, setting the scene for what's to come, Agnus Dei allows no escape from its wrath from the moment it begins. The album title track presents The Secret's newest offering with such malevolence and decimating brutality that the listener is only left to wonder how much better it could possibly get.
Where Agnus Dei sacrifices melody, it births ingenuity and finesse. The album's overarching balance flows from track to track, and spills some interesting surprises along the way, all while consistently staying true to the intent of the music. Songs like Post Mortem Nihil Est and Love Your Enemy break up the perceived thrashy mold of the album; while the former is ushering in an atypical drum beat for a band of this stature, the latter delivers a fast-paced, guitar-droning intro that is careening towards utter pandemonium. Darkness I Became finishes off its severity with a battering ram of a riff, trudging into Heretic Temple, which could be classified as one of those ambience-builders that are everpresent within The Secret's repertoire. Album-ender Seven Billion Graves grimly points at an obvious picture, painted throughout the album, coming full circle. To put it frankly, there is not one moment of Agnus Dei that feels unwarranted.

Hasta La Muerte (Out Of Stock)Limited edition double vinyl from Southern Lord in Stoughton gatefold jacket which perfectly complements the amazing painting by artist Dan Seagrave (Entombed, Morbid Angel).
Following the initial vinyl release of Xibalba's Madre Mi Por Los Dias debut full-length in 2011 (via A389 Records), Southern Lord released a CD pressing of the album, as part of its ongoing underground series. Madre Mi Por Los Dias stormed the hardcore world with its apocalyptic, down-tuned, slow-motion brutality, the band's ultra-energizing buildups and relentlessly brutal breakdowns instantly drawing comparisons to Disembodied, Bloodlet, and the heaviest of the late '90s/early 2000s hardcore scene as well as kings of low-end, groove-laden death metal like Crowbar, Obituary and Sepultura.
Hasta La Muerte, Spanish for "to the death," is the band's first full-length album for Southern Lord. It's a lethal collision of brutal death metal, vicious hardcore and oppressive sludge, taking the concept of heavy to a new, crushing level in the process! Hasta La Muerte was recorded and produced by Taylor Young (Nails). Greg Anderson of Sunn O))), Goatsnake and Southern Lord has collaborated with the band on 2 tracks: "Flood" and "Cold." Anderson's sub-bass six string warfare seemlessly integrates within the ultra-heaviness of the Xibalba sound.
The band's songwriting, performance and recording of the album shows Xibalba taking a giant leap forward. Hasta La Muetre will firmly establish the band as a force to be reckoned with as well as new leaders within the underground metal scene.1. No Serenity
