Reinventing The SteelOne of the preeminent metal bands of all time, Pantera put to rest any and all remnants of the '80s metal scene, almost single-handedly demolishing any notion that hair metal, speed metal, power metal, et al., were anything but passÉ.
As one of metal's most ferocious acts, with one of its most insanely devoted audiences, it's clear as an empty whiskey bottle that Pantera's impact and influence on heavy music is still being felt.
Lyrics about the band itself can be found through most of this album (We'll Grind That Axe For a Long Time) but also includes songs about their fans (You've Got To Belong To It).
Reinventing The Steel will all be reissued on 180-gram vinyl. Heavy Metal thrashers Pantera broke up in 2003. Guitarist Dimebag Darrell was the victim of a tragic shooting in 2004 while playing with his band Damage Plan.
Dimebag Darrell called the band's most recent studio album, 2000's Reinventing The Steel, a best-of in its own right, a mix of elements from the albums that had preceded it. Even the closing epic, I'll Cast A Shadow, was a monster. Usually when we write, the songs come together really fast, says Dime. But sometimes, you'll be drilling at one for hours before you realize it ain't workin'. This was one of those. So we put it on the back burner, finished up all the other tunes, then went back to give it one more pull. We rearranged it, threw a few new parts in, and it really brought it to life. I think it ended up being the baddest-ass song on the whole record.1. Hellbound

Debussy - Nocturnes / Ravel - Daphnes et Chloe (Speakers Corner)
With his Nocturnes, Debussy's vision of music inspired by Nature enters a new sphere. His first multi-part orchestral work the composition was originally conceived for violin but was published as a vocal-symphonic work offers a wealth of subtleties as regards melody and sound coloring, the likes of which had never been heard before in Debussy's oeuvre. Unlike traditional orchestral writing, the woodwinds here provide vitality with a wide spectrum of tonal coloring while the strings unroll a dynamically finely graded carpet of sound. Absolutely innovative is the wordless female chorus in the third movement whose voices combine with the instruments to produce a mysterious tonal concoction.
Debussy's compatriot, Ravel, went to even greater lengths in his Daphnis and Chloe Suites. As the instrumental distribution leads one to suspect full orchestra plus 15 percussion instruments, chorus and wind machine the work is a full-fledged modern-age French choreographic symphony and one of the greatest compositions of its time. It is almost superfluous to mention that a thrilling performance of both works can only be achieved by the very best of symphony orchestras.
Recording: March 1961 at Cass Technical High School Auditorium, Detroit (MI), USA,

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.
and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

ADAD-KRE-3513xAngelo Spencer Et Les Hauts Sommets
World GarageInspired by Bollywood, a trip to Morocco, and Serge Gainsbourg, Angelo Spencers second full-length World Garage brings armloads of new instruments and the flavor of exotic locations to a compilation of songs that amount to more than just an album, but an experience of wildness. Hearing Spencer transition from English to French, from guitar to hand percussion, and from soft singing to auto tuned screaming, its easy to close your eyes and imagine that youre running barefoot through the soft grass of, somewhere. Somewhere else.
Backed by local musicians Ben Kapp, Karl Blau, Clyde Petersen, with guest vocals by Rebecca Redman (from the band Watercolor paintings), World Garage began as a bundle of unfinished songs that Spencer played for everyone, along with a mixtape of Algerian, Moroccan, and Bollywood selections meant to serve as inspiration for how he wanted the finished album to sound; from the sounds of it, it did the trick.1. DuetsFamed opera singers Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazón collaborate again for their much anticipated Duets album. Already a platinum-seller internationally, this album is a collection of their favorite pieces from the world's most celebrated operas including La Bohème and RomÉo et Juliette. As a gift to one another, Anna and Rolando also sing in each other's native language with duets from Luisa Fernanda and Iolanta. This release coincides with the pair's engagement at New York's Metropolitan Opera in Gounod's RomÉo et Juliette from September-December, 2007. Netrebko and Villazón established themselves as the new operatic dream team when they sang in the Salzburg Festival production of Verdi's La Traviata in 2005 (their interpretations are preserved on Deutsche Grammophon CD and DVD). Since then, they have conquered the world's stages in Gounod's RomÉo et Juliette in Los Angeles, and Verdi's Rigoletto at New York's Metropolitan Opera (conducted by Plácido Domingo).

Spleen and IdealDead Can Dance's second album, Spleen And Ideal (1985), saw them experiment more with instrumentation, abandoning guitars in favor of cello, trombone and timpani. Widely acclaimed, there was now a richness of unification between voice and music, lyrics and structure, showing they had a concrete sense of the aural ideal they were striving towards. It's title was taken from Spleen et IdÉal, a collection of poems by 18th century French poet Charles Baudelaire.

Time's All GoneNick Waterhouse is the New Breed - An R&B fanatic who combines an uncanny old-school sensibility and with a charged, contemporary style. Having just turned 25, he joins the ranks of similar acts and producers of recent times - Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse, Sharon Jones, Mayer Hawthorne, Aloe Blacc et al -- that are all moving forward into the past, yet all quite different. For Waterhouse, his muse is the over-modulated sound of vintage '50s R&B and Rebel Rock n' Roll. His take on such a time-honored tradition evokes the back-alley thrill of New Orleans, Detroit and Memphis in their heyday. Pearl MysticPearl Mystic is an absolutely thunderous statement of intent for Hookworms (MJ - vox/keys/analogues; JW - guitarist, SS - guitarist; MB - bass; JN - drums). After a portentous couple of years of live shows and limited releases, a debut self-titled EP initially came out on cassette for Sun Araw's Sun Ark label. Soon after, there was a vinyl release on Faux Discx/Gringo Records. Both sold out. During this time their live shows continued to increase in intensity, cementing their reputation treading the boards.
Live and on record, like Spaceman 3, they pointedly subvert the tripped out sound environments of psychedelia with a darkly malevolent punk menace; unlike J.Spaceman et al, there's no chemical assistance, these concepts and feelings come with clarity.
A relationship lost, a battle with depression, and as MJ puts it "a half-hearted suicide attempt" are running narratives throughout the album. Tracks like 'Away/Towards' possess an infectious energy that juxtaposes with a subtext of a bi-polar approach to coping with loss. "Preservation", too, is in keeping with the group's live shows, though deals with existentialism, whilst several Raymond Carver influences are scattered in and among the bold textures of sound. "In Our Time" is inspired by hill MJ would cycle up near Otley in Yorkshire after the break up to catch his favorite view in the world
The record was recorded and produced in MJ's own Suburban Studios - where he's worked on records for Mazes, Eagulls and Spectrals and more.
Indeed, the most impressive thing about Hookworms is that, through this torrent of emotion, there's always the sense that they're in control of it all, so committed are they to this catharsis that they refuse to throw any of it to chance.1. Away / Towards

Skeleton SoulJack Sandham and Wednesday Lyle have been playing together as Cowbell since late 2009 when they got together for a late night jam session and things took off from there. Three 7" singles followed over the next 18 months and they signed to Damaged Goods in 2012. Two years on from their debut album Beat Stampede, the rockin' duo branch out into a more spooky atmospheric sound across the 11 tracks on the new album. There's a definite dark, New Orleans R&B vibe to Skeleton Soul.
Kicking off with the spaghetti western intro of the album's opening track, 'Cry Wolf' the duo cover plenty of new ground while retaining the urgency and excitement of their earlier work. Though what makes this new album so special is the evocative mood the band created with Ed Deegan at Gizzard Studio. Imagine Dr. John meets the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. The sound is still a stripped down affair, though this time round the drum 'n' guitar bones are fleshed out with a few enhancing overdubs such as the Doors-esque spiky psychedelic organ on 'She's All Over You', and some soulful saxophone on the funky, strutting 'Dirt'.
The band show they're equally adept at intimate ballads with 'Darkness In Your Heart', perhaps the best song Richard Hawley never wrote. Wednesday takes the lead vocal on 'Heart On The Line' a track which recalls the cream of '60s girl singers such as Sandie, Dusty et al. Fans of the group's earlier sound will not be disappointed either, there's still the bone-shaking garage blues numbers such as 'Oh Yolande' and 'Baby It's Your Love' along with the swampy mambo-blues groove of 'The Fear'. Imagine a band with the guitar twang of The Cramps over jungle-tribal drums, covering The Zombies and you're somewhere close.1. Cry Wolf

Columbia in 1962.
The new album, produced by Jack Frost, is the 35th studio set from Bob Dylan, and follows 2009's worldwide best-seller, Together Through Life. Bob
Dylan's four previous studio albums have been universally hailed as among the best of his storied career, achieving new levels of commercial success and critical acclaim for the artist. The Platinum-selling Time Out Of Mind from 1997 earned multiple Grammy Awards, including Album Of The Year, while "Love and Theft" continued Dylan's Platinum streak and earned several Grammy nominations and a statue for Best Contemporary Folk album.
Modern Times, released in 2006, became one of the artist's most popular albums, selling more than 2.5 million copies worldwide and earning Dylan two
more Grammys. Together Through Life became the artist's rst album to debut at #1 in both the U.S. and the UK, as well as in ve other countries, on its way to surpassing sales of one million copies.
Those four releases fell within a 12-year creative span that also included the recording of an Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning composition, "Things
Have Changed," from the lm Wonder Boys, in 2001; a worldwide bestselling memoir, Chronicles Vol. 1, which spent 19 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller List, in 2004, and a Martin Scorsese-directed documentary, No Direction Home, in 2005. Bob Dylan also released his rst collection of holiday standards, Christmas In The Heart, in 2009, with all of the artist's royalties from that album being donated to hunger charities around the world.
This year, Bob Dylan was the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country's highest civilian honor. and Danielson was tapped as one of 4 artists (including R. Stevie
Moore; Teenage Fanclub's Norman Blake; and Strobe Talbot) to
record separate respective albums with him for a boxed-set
limited release. "Flattered and honored" is how Smith sums up
his feelings about the project -- and grateful to get a game-plan
for what always seemed a complementary pairing.
Sounds Familyre will be doing their own non-limited release of
Solid Gold Heart in June, on CD, digital and gold vinyl. The 11
tracks of sweet collaboration collected under said title sound like
what you might expect, given the respective artists: gleaming
tunes of sincere sing-speak, resplendent with sparkling back-up
vocals and warmly melodic, inventive instrumentation; a
sunshine-bright outlook of positive encouragement to keep
"rockin' on the side of gooood" -- because, after all, "We
deserve chocolate cake/ We deserve apple pie/ Enjoy your life
The collaborative process commenced with Fair sending Smith
his unique vocal demos of recited lyrics with articulated mouth-sound musical qualities (some bits remain in the final mixes).
Smith then wrote music for each chosen track, eventually getting
Fair and drummer Gilles Rieder into his Clarksboro, NJ studio
to record their parts during a few hours break from touring.
Aside from Smith's own guitar-playing and singing throughout
the album, there were contributions made by his brothers David
and Andrew on percussion, and sisters Rachel and Megan along
with wife Elin on vocals. Spicing things up at Fair's behest were
members of Texas art-polka band Brave Combo: Carl Finch on
accordion and keys; Jeffrey Barnes on sax and woodwinds; and
Danny O'Brien on trumpet. Bringing things full-circle was
Kramer (Shockabilly, Bongwater, B.A.L.L. et al.) on bass, who
also co-mixed and mastered the album.
The result is a beguiling blend that builds off each participant's
strengths, truly a fresh sum that is greater than its parts. "The
goal was to make 3-minute pop songs, as accessible and fun and
immediate as possible," notes Smith. And that's what you'll
hear, each track an uplifting, mutually enhanced concoction.
Anyone who ever had a Solid Gold Heart -- wouldn't they want
to turn around and share it? Of course they would. Jad Fair and
Danielson are happy to offer up theirs.1. Go Ahead

Music On Vinyl proudly presents a second release of the COLLECTED albums. The new albums will focus on memorable artists with almost a life span of original intriguing music, covering a timeless musical period!
In the early 1950s a man of short stature attempts to win over his audience. With a hoarse voice he delivers songs that do not catch on. People jeer at him. Tomatoes fly through the air. The Frenchman with Armenian roots slinks off the stage, but does not quit.
Ironically, the song that makes him a household name is the song in which he recalls his agonising trial. The audience reacted indifferently when Charles Aznavour decided to try out his new song on stage. But when he went on to greet the audience for one final time they all stood and gave him a thundering standing ovation.
In the sixties, hits and classics succeed one another. Nobody is bothered any more by his husky voice, by his small stature or his rugged characterful face. The croony For Me Formidable (1963), the heart breaking Et Pourtant (1963) and the nostalgic Hier Encore (1964) confirm his standing as a fan favourite. La Bohème (1965) and Emmenez-moi (1967) turn Aznavour into a superstar.
In La Bohème, there are impressionist painters strolling in the shadows of the SacrÉ-Coeur, the compelling Comme Ils Dissent (1972) is the first chanson after Vichy France to overtly endorse homo sexuality and in the present France Of La Manif Pour Tous (the movement that opposes gay marriage), does it again to sound particularly topical. Camarade (1977) was about the nomenklatura, the ruling elite in the Soviet Union and is a social and historical topic. Avec Un Brin De Nostalgie is an Aznavour grand cru, maybe even the best he has made over the last thirty years.
COLLECTED by Charles Aznavour is a wonderful collection of hits and classic by the French artist that touches your soul at every moment. It's an overview of his work during the sixties, seventies and duets with Johnny Hallyday on Il Faut Savoir and with Frank Sinatra Young At Heart. Also his English versions of How Sad Venice Can Be, The Old Fashioned Way, She and four more English songs are included on this deluxe Trifold 3LP album.LP 1

ChromaticsWhen songwriter and producer Sam Genders last donned his Diagrams hat, captive listeners found themselves truly stunned by the Streatham Hill artist's imaginative and inventive arrangements that made up 2012s debut album Black Light. Having now upped sticks from his London lodgings and settled in Sheffield with a new lease of life and wife, fresh pastures and friendships are what form the heart of Diagrams' brand new album Chromatics.
"Relationships are a constant thread. In all their frustrating, exciting, mundane, beautiful, wonderful, sexy, scary glory," reveals Genders of the album's themes. "And there's lots of hope in the songs. They shouldn't be taken too literally mind you in my head Chromatics is life in Technicolor; with all its ups and downs."
Equally drawing inspiration from the writing on relationships by David Schnarch, Ester Perel and the book Division Street by Sheffield poet Helen Mort, whilst spending time in his own home studio for the first time, it's without doubt that the Steel city provided the ideal backdrop for Genders to write whenever the inspiration came and, essentially, whittle down the fifty or so tracks he had recorded as part of the album's creation. "There are woods over the road and a little garden out the back with a greenhouse, shed, and flower beds. Being in a new place has brought something special to the process. Sheffield is a very open and direct place and I'd say the songs are more that way too."
Whilst Black Light fizzed with electronic effects, synth-bass, programmed beats and low-key funk grooves that brought about comparisons to the leftfield pop of Arthur Russell, Metronomy, Steve Mason and Hot Chip, it's without doubt that Genders' next offering falls closer to home comforts and marks the next step in Genders' renaissance. Take lead track 'Phantom Power'; it's the track which truly sums up what it's like to find yourself forever reassessing. "It's about feeling like you're losing a grip on your sanity at one moment, then feeling inspired and up for anything the next. Or frustration with yourself yet believing that it's possible to sort yourself out," explains Genders. Elsewhere 'You Can Talk To Me's delicate rolling melody and 'Serpent' once again showcase the playful, eclectic slant to Genders' songwriting prowess alongside an innate sense of crisp production and programming techniques.
Never one to shirk away from those around him, Genders would be the first to call Diagrams, and particularly Chromatics, a collaborative process. Once again featuring a rolling cast of inspirational musicians the album includes vocals from, amongst friends and family members, The Smoke Fairies whilst the skilled brass and string arrangements come courtesy of Danyal Dhondy and Sam Ewens. 'London's greatest' drummers Karl Penney, and Cacophony drummer Fletcher Adams provide the beats whilst live band members Emma Black and Ben Malitskie lend their expertise of Baritone Saxophone and Viola. 'Brain' meanwhile, was co-written with long-time friend and collaborator Matt McKenzie and features an in utero recording of his son James' heartbeat.
Yet it's the partnership with producer Leo Abrahams (Wild Beasts, David Byrne, Brian Eno, Jon Hopkins, Ed Harcourt, Marianne Faithful et al) that has truly brought Diagrams to life. After a long search, Abrahams was picked to piece all parts together and as a result Genders found himself writing songs that worked across a variety of production styles. "Leo's incredibly good at what he does and virtually all the impressive production and soundscaping is down to him. He's also an amazing guitarist and played some of my favourite guitar moments on the album."
Who knows exactly what kind of relationships will inspire Genders next? Currently finding himself midst China's south central city of Changsha in Hunan as a Musician in Residence on behalf of the British Council and PRS foundation, life for Genders right now is all about new experiences, meeting new faces and learning from new friendships. "It feels like anything could happen from one day to the next. I'd like to record a Chinese version of 'Phantom Power' so that once I'm back in the UK I can reconnect with the music lovers I've met. I've heard lots of very poppy pop songs that incorporate both Chinese and English lyrics so I'd like to try my own twist on that."1. Phantom Power

Rarities Vol. 1: The CoversNo Use For A Name is one of THE most successful and prolific acts to come out of the 90's skate-punk scene. But there's a lot more to it than that. Just have a look at their family tree, it has bands like Spazz, Foo Fighters, and Suicidal Tendencies to count among its branches. No really, think about that: the dude from that infamous grindcore band was in NUFAN?!? Their long, unpredictable journey has been full of twists, turns, and alternate routes that led them to be one of the best-selling outfits of their genre. They've done it all: Warped Tour's main stage, MTV, a live record, and an even a recent greatest hits album entitled, All The Best Songs. Hey, you know you've made it when you finally get a greatest hits collection! Not bad for some goofy kids from San Jose who started out with a couple hardcore 7s
Early No Use releases appeared on New Red Archives, a San Francisco punk label operated by Nicky Garratt of the UK Subs. Believe it or not, in the late 80's it actually made sense that they would be labelmates with Reagan Youth, Social Unrest, and Christ On A Crutch. An AllMusic review describes their early material as, hulking hardcore with mighty fists full of metal. Angry and Threatening. This was a gritty, hardcore punk band, known mostly for their growling vocals and dark lyrical themes. Then came the first unforeseen occurrence: frontman Tony Sly unexpectedly developed into a proficient songwriter and mastered melody like few punk bands can ever do. Nobody knows where those gifts come from and you never see it coming, but suddenly No Use For A Name was starting to make music that people actually liked.
As is natural, the band kept evolving, and things changed in a major way for the band when they signed to Fat Wreck Chords in the mid-90's. Their 8-song Fat debut, The Daily Grind EP, drew comparisons to Bad Religion and was a marked step up, but it was 1995's, ¡Leche con Carne!, that would cement No Use For A Name as a successful band for years to come. The album was their best yet and bore a hit song (Soul Mate) that landed them on alternative radio charts, which, for a scrappy punk band, was a complete deviation from industry norms. Stranger yet, was that they made a music video and MTV even played the damn thing! What followed obviously was commercial success in the form of six-figure album sales, another anomaly in the world of indie-punk bands and something that would set the stage for later melodic punk bands like Blink 182, et al. From then on it was steady sailing with a string of successful records and tours from the band. Most notably was 1997's darker, and somehow faster, Making Friends; followed by 1999's hyper-catchy More Betterness!. It was during these halcyon days that Chris Shiflett held down 6-string duties for NUFAN before accepting an offer to join Foo Fighters on lead guitar.
The years went by for the perennial punk powerhouse and the band did numerous world tours, amassing album sales that would eventually total in the 7 figures. Pretty remarkable when you think about it. The new millennium was also a fruitful time for the boys. It started in 2001 with the release of their Live In A Dive album, which was very successful abroad where people were especially hungry for No Use's live performances. In 2002 they released their poppiest effort, Hard Rock Bottom, which was stocked with upbeat tempos and radio-friendly melodies. Their most recent and seemingly final studio album came in 2008. Ironically titled The Feel Good Album Of The Year, the album was a tinge darker and more aggressive than their recent releases and the band reminded us all that their songs still had urgency and bite.
After 25 years, No Use For A Name disbanded in 2012 when frontman Tony unexpectedly passed away. Anthony J. Sly (November 4, 1970 - July 31, 2012) died at home, in his sleep on a Tuesday morning, at age 41. Fat Mike-label head and long-time friend to Tony-was staggered by the news and offered, One of my dearest friends and favorite songwriters has gone way too soon. Tony, you will be greatly missed. No one could've predicted his passing, and needless to say, it shook the very foundation of the Fat Wreck family and the underground music community as a whole. Tony was loved and respected by a wide variety of artists and musicians, and nowhere is that more evident than the roster of contributors to The Songs of Tony Sly: A Tribute; a compilation of NUFAN songs covered by bands like Bad Religion, Frank Turner, The Gaslight Anthem, Alkaline Trio, and many more. Bands from the Americas, Europe, Australia, UK, and even Israel contributed to this final chapter in the storied career of No Use For A Name. The collection will be released on October 29th, 2013, and all proceeds will go towards the Tony Sly Memorial Fund, which has been established to help Tony's wife Brigitte and their daughters, Fiona and Keira.1. The Book Of Love tells the story of an introverted architect named Henry. After the death of his wife in a car accident, he sets out to help Millie, a homeless teen, to build a raft to sail across the Atlantic.
Justin Timberlake, the multi-platinum pop star, actor and owner of handfuls of Grammys and Emmys, composed the orchestral film together with Mitchell Owens.
Justin has always been intrigued by movie scores; "I think when I was a kid I would hear movies more than I would watch them. I saw 'E.T.' at a drive-in with my father, and hearing that main theme to the movie, and how it's used when the bikes take off and they fly over the police barricade, and you hear that sweeping melody - I'll never forget that moment."
His debut composition is nothing but amazing. Justin takes you on a minimalistic reflective trip. The score is emotionally driven and shows pure honesty, which is the most supreme form in which an artist can express himself.LP 1
