Wayne Shorter made a major impact on the Jazz world during 1963-64. He left Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers to become a member of the Miles Davis Quintet, and he recorded Night Dreamer and Juju as a leader for Blue Note. Speak No Evil is even notable than those two gems, for Shorter had developed into not only one of the most original tenor-saxophonists of the 1960?s but also one of its most vital composers. With superb playing by Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Freddie Hubbard and Elvin Jones, Shorter introduces six unique compositions including Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum, Speak No Evil and Infant Eyes. Hubbard and Hancock consistently raise the temperature with fiery solos. Shorter's playing and writing are both beyond description, utilizing a logic all his own which, over time, has become a major influence in Modern Jazz. Throughout Speak No Evil, Shorter creates brilliant new music like no one else.

    I Get Evil

Albert King, the velvet bulldozer, was one third of the 'three kings of guitar' along with B.B and Freddie, although given he was 6'4' and weighed 250lbs he probably amounted to a little more. His stature as a man was reflected in his musicianship and his guitar style influenced the likes of Mick Taylor, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Derek Trucks.

    Lesser Evil

Doldrums first full length, Lesser Evil, comes after many years of smaller EPs, performance, and video art. Airick Woodhead, deeply entrenched in the Montreal and Toronto DIY scenes, has been a longtime friend and collaborator of Arbutus. Woodhead is "immune to technology"; the singer, producer, multi instrumentalist certainly uses technology hard enough that it breaks down completely; the cover art for Lesser Evil is simply a photograph of his broken Laptop screen. The album features warped short-looped samples, which congeal with drum parts and Woodhead's distinct falsetto, creating a live energy that is experiential, raw and solitary.

The live show takes these songs and sets them with percussion - often with two or more live drummers on stage. The songs on Lesser Evil shift with the energy of experience, a notion that plays strongly on Doldrums entire aesthetic - exploring the disorienting, exotic and truly compelling experimental realm of Airick Woodhead.

Rage Against the Machine's long-awaited follow up to their 1993 self-titled debut was well worth the wait as its brand of revolutionary rap/protest metal has never been matched elsewhere. Tom Morello again sets the pace here with his guitar wizardry while Zach De La Rocha assaults his subjects with rage and resolve. The results are both profound and just plain powerful. Evil Empire debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts, Bulls on Parade and People of the Sun received Grammy nominations for Best Hard Rock Performance and Tire Me took home the 1996 Grammy award for Best Metal Performance.

    Live Evil

Originally released in 1971, Live-Evil is one of Miles Davis' most extraordinary records. Here, on a double album comprised of both live and studio recordings, the electric sound that Davis first unveiled the year previous emerges as a fully formed and powerful beast. Featuring one of his finest bands, which included John McLaughlin, Keith Jarrett, Gary Bartz, Jack DeJohnette and Brazilian percussionist Airto, Live-Evil is a stunning exploration of the outer limits of jazz, and one of the most influential records of the '70s. Absolutely essential. Reissued on double 180 gram vinyl in a gatefold jacket.

    Live Evil

Live-Evil (1970) by Miles Davis is a double live album which features different settings of Miles Davis' bands.

One of such recordings is of a 1970 gig at the Cellar Door, which featured a band comprised of Miles, bassist Michael Henderson, drummer Jack DeJohnette, guitarist John McLaughlin, saxophonist Gary Barts, and Keith Jarrett. The group is groovy, fast, and funky.

The other setting was recorded with Ron Carter, Dave Holland, Chick Corea, and Herbie Hancock among others. This record is complex, but somehow still groovy. Tracs like "Sivad", "Funky Tonk", and "What I say" shows enthusiasm and wonderfully live material.

    Effigies Of Evil

Hooded Menace Effigies Of Evil on 2LP

Finland's doom/death-lords Hooded Menace make their Relapse debut with Effigies of Evil, a brutally ripping album of slow-paced, down-tuned ultra-heaviness. Combining the grooving riffs of Black Sabbath and early Cathedral with the fire of classic Autopsy and Asphyx, Effigies Of Evil is an instant metal classic.

Effigies Of Evil is the peak combination of Hooded Menace's fascination with classic '90s death metal, prototypical '70s doom and cult horror flicks, a collection of obsessions that any heavy music fan proudly wears for life. Effigies Of Evil is a triumphant album of filth, sludge, riffs and grooves that transforms cult heroes Hooded Menace into legitimate heavy metal icons. 2LP pressing from Relapse Records.

"Wild Flower". Celebrating 50 years since its recording, Speak No Evil was newly-remastered for vinyl by Alan Yoshida at Dunning-Kruger in Los Angeles

    Deerhoof VS. Evil

Right before Deerhoof began recording Deerhoof Vs. Evil, Greg Saunier, Ed Rodriguez, John Dieterich and Satomi Matsuzaki up and split from San Francisco (the only home they've ever known as a band) and left behind all notions of what a Deerhoof record sounds like. Self-recorded, mixed and mastered in rehearsal spaces and band members' basements with no engineers or outside input, Deerhoof vs. Evil dresses up Deerhoof's wellknown recklessness in a newfound elastic groove, one filled with big-hit choruses and exuberantly unfamiliar colors. The musical equivalent of hormones raging out of control, the record explodes out of the speakers with its gawky triumph and inflamed sentimentality.

    Escape From Evil

On Escape From Evil, Lower Dens' Jana Hunter emerges: cerebral and hot-blooded, rash and
incorruptible, and, crucially, possessing of a loud, clear voice.

Hunter stepping up and taking center stage has emboldened every other aspect of the band.
Escape From Evil is a cinematic, tonally rich work. The sounds are clean and warm. The pulse of
the album is strong. Melodies are potent and songs are physical. Lyrics are direct, frank
confrontations with life's common crises. The album title is brazen, and along with the grimly
funny title of lead single, To Die in L.A., almost theatrical.

    Evil Urges (Awaiting Repress)

One of the Most Highly Anticipated Albums of 2008!

My Morning Jacket expands their stylistic boundaries with each newly successive release and true to form Evil Urges, their fifth studio album, may be their most diverse effort yet. Jim James, the bold and fearless frontman for the group, even flaunts his falsetto on a handful of tracks. My Morning Jacket had little reason to try anything new at all considering their previous album, Z, was one of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2005 and was prematurely being described by many as the group at their creative peak. I feel like Z is the perfect bridge from what we were gradually doing before and Z to Evil Urges is the perfect bridge between everything. On the first listen, there's a lot of variety in a lot of different places, but I think after repeated listens, hopefully the listener would understand the similarities more than the differences, explains James. In a matter of 6 years, My Morning Jacket has evolved from just another alt-country band into something of bigger, more epic proportions. There are parts of our band that are tied to roots, James says, and there are also parts where we want to experiment.

The past several My Morning Jacket albums have each reflected the passion that the band shares for music of all categories while continuing to nurture their signature aesthetic. Stylistically, Evil Urges is the album that My Morning Jacket has been making for almost ten years. Their previous work has emboldened them with the confidence to continue to grow in ways few artists would be capable of achieving. Admirably, Jim James' songwriting manages to remain as organic and cohesive as ever, making their musical leaps forward fluid, logical, entertaining and inspiring.

More than ever before, the band treated the studio itself as a musical instrument for the recording of Evil Urges. Thus co-producers Jim James and Joe Chiccarelli (The Shins, White Stripes) truly collaborated on the band's most ambitious and convincingly executed album to date.

The Damned have announced details of their new album, Evil Spirits, their first new album in a decade. It was made at Atomic Sound Studios in Brooklyn with Bowie collaborator/producer Tony Visconti. Says Captain Sensible:

We deliberately recorded the album retro style. The same way our debut album was made, basically. There's something wonderful about the seventies sounds; glam, rock and punk records, they all sound so great and Tony specializes in beautifully crafted old school production. He had us all playing live, bashing it out in the same room with a focus on getting the initial band version of each song as close as possible to the finished thing.

    God Damn Evil (Pre-Order)

Continuing a trend started with their 2013 release, "No More Hell To Pay", Stryper's 10th studio album, "God Damn Evil" sees the band offering up their heaviest release yet! Opening track, "Take It To The Cross" features a guest appearance from Matt Bachand (Shadows Fall, Act Of Defiance) on death growls, yes, death growls, and immediately shows you that Michael Sweet and company have zero intentions of mellowing with age.

The next two tracks, "Sorry" and "Lost", are classic Stryper anthems, but with a modern heaviness and edge that carries the band's sound into the 21st century and beyond. The title track, as with all previous Stryper releases, proves to be an instant classic and surely will be a setlist staple on the upcoming tour cycle."You Don't Even Know Me" and "The Valley" are excellent follow-ups to the glorious title track, with the latter being a true example of how heavy doesn't have to equate to "fast". Later, "Can't Live Without Your Love" showcases that Sweet can still write ballad lyrics, but doesn't need the saccharine music popularize in '80s heavy metal to accompany it and can take it tasteful new directions.

Fans of the previous two releases, "No More Hell To Pay" and "Fallen" and of the band's classic early material will find much to love here as the band continues to push the envelope of their musical abilities.

Defending the Throne of Evil is the fourth studio album by the Norwegian black metal band Carpathian Forest. Originally released in 2003 by Season of Mist The sonority of Defending the Throne of Evil is largely different from other Carpathian Forest albums, being their more melodic one so far; relying heavily on symphonic interludes, saxophones and synthesizers, it is loosely reminiscent of symphonic black metal.

    Shadows, Greys & Evil Ways

The White Buffalo releases his new record 'Shadows, Greys, and Evil Ways' via Unison Music Group. NPR All Songs Considered has called songwriter Jake Smith "an amazing storyteller" and these 14 songs trace the life story of Joey White, a small town outsider who goes to war and returns home only to find more violence as he struggles to readjust to a life away from the front lines and reconcile with the girl he left behind.

"I look at the whole thing as a love story," says Smith. "The beginning is their meeting, and because of his need and want to support her, he goes off to war, which starts his downward spiral."

Recorded at LA's Unison Music Studios and produced by the Grammy-nominated team of Bruce Witkin and Ryan Dorn, 'Shadows, Greys, and Evil Ways' sees the core trio of Jake Smith, bassist Tom Andrews, and drummer Matt Lynott joined by the likes of drumming legend Jim Keltner on "Don't You Want It" and ex-Jayhawk Jessy Greene.

The White Buffalo has had songs included in both 'Sons of Anarchy' and 'Californication,' and his new song "The American Dream" is included on the soundtrack to 'The Lone Ranger,' starring Johnny Depp, next month. Filter has said "influenced by musicians ranging from Bad Religion to Tom Waits, The White Buffalo is ready to break through and stampede into your speakers" and American Songwriter has praised his "deft songwriting chops and a booming whiskey voice."

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter Soundtrack

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the sixth and final movie in the smash hit Resident Evil series. Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Milan Jovovich (The Fifth Element, Zoolander), Resident Evil: The Final Chapter concludes the story of Alice, following her as she travels to the zombie-infested hellscape of Raccoon City to face down the Umbrella Corporation and save the few remaining survivors of the apocalypse. The original score to Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is composed by veteran musician Paul Haslinger. Following a successful run with the German electronic group Tangerine Dream, Haslinger has enjoyed a career in scoring for film and television, working on such projects as Fear The Walking Dead and the Underworld series.

    Onyx

In the twelve years since their inception, Michigan's Pop Evil have undergone their fair share of changes. Members, style, labels, you name it and there is a decent change the group has made some kind of tweak in the last decade. This is not a complaint, however, as every new evolution of the group has made them a tighter, more focus band. Since 2010s War Of Angels the group has again undergone changes, including the addition of drummer Chachi Riot and guitarist Nick Fuelling, as well as their decision to not use acoustic guitars, and once again the mitten state's greatest rock band has come out better for their efforts.

The idea of overcoming your demons and that which holds you back from being who you want to be or doing what you desire may sound like an overly-present theme on the album, but it never feels so familiar that it becomes tired. Instead, each track on Onyx feels like an anthem in its own right, targeting those with various doubts about themselves and the world around them. Pop Evil harness tap into the fear of the unknown that lies within each of us in our own unique ways and offer up twelve tracks to motivate and inspire individuals to take their lives into their own hands. Onyx is one of the most cohesive, memorable, and downright fun listening experiences of the year. It's the best album Pop Evil have ever written, and it's littered with moments that indicate there are years of great music still come. I cannot think of a single reason anyone who considers themselves a fan of rock and roll should not buy Onyx. As of May 14, it will officially be an album to beat in 2013, and it could not have come from a more deserving and hard working band.

    Feed Me Violence

Let down your hair and rip off your shirt, Speed Metal is back! With lustful joy, the Belgians of EVIL INVADERS wallow in those mad days of early Metallica and Slayer, when Thrash Metal was marked with speed and metal's madness was bigger than the Beatlemania. Their second monstrosity of an album is called Feed The Violence and delivers true Thrash Metal in its rawest strength: wasted and wild, lightning-swift and erratic! Full-throated Heavy Metal-screams that would make Rob Halford proud shoot over electrifying whirlwinds of solo guitars. Prepare yourself for massive divebombs and a grim beating snare drum! A must-have for every guitar-freak that hails Dimebag Darrell and Randy Rhoads.
