Experience Hendrix: The Best Of Jimi Hendrix

Experience Hendrix: The Best of Jimi Hendrix is a compilation album of Jimi Hendrix songs originally released on CD in 1997. This 2xLP collects 20 songs spanning his career from his first recordings with the Jimi Hendrix Experience in 1966 to his last with Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell in 1970.

It is the first comprehensive collection of Hendrix's songs overseen by Experience Hendrix, a family company that took over management of his recording legacy in 1997. Fifteen songs with the Experience are included and five with Hendrix's later groups often referred to as Gypsy Suns and Rainbows and the Cry of Love touring band. No songs from the Band of Gypsys lineup with Buddy Miles are included.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience (Box Set) (On Sale)

    8x 180-Gram Vinyl Box Set

The Jimi Hendrix Experience legendary "Purple Box," which Rolling Stone's David Fricke proclaimed "The Rolls Royce of posthumous Hendrix sets" is set for release via Legacy Recordings! The box set earned RIAA Gold Album sales status in the US and has enjoyed widespread critical and commercial success throughout the world.

An 8-LP boxed set, The Jimi Hendrix Experience is not a collection of previously existing recordings from Hendrix's famous studio albums. The Jimi Hendrix Experience presents 56 previously unreleased or unavailable studio and concert recordings from a remarkable four-year period in musical history - 1966-1970 - when guitarist Jimi Hendrix was bringing pop and blues and jazz and soul and psychedelia together and changing the way everybody listened to everything.

First released in 2000, The Jimi Hendrix Experience box is sequenced in chronological order, beginning with the first known recordings of the Jimi Hendrix Experience in October 1966, and continuing through the recording of his groundbreaking studio albums as well as a variety of transcendent performances, and ending with the artist's final multi-track recording session at New York's Electric Lady Studios in August 1970.

    Hendrix In The West

Very often, at the beginning of a show, Jimi Hendrix would ask his audience to forget about what happened yesterday or today and start their own world right here.
For this special new edition of the 1971 live-album Music On Vinyl asks you to do the same.

In The West consists of live recordings from the two incarnations of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, including his legendary Isle Of Wight Festival performance in 1970, where he created a live medley of 'God Save The Queen' and 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' with a stunned Paul McCartney in the audience.

To Jimi, concerts were snapshots of where the band was at that moment in time, and Electric Ladyland director of engineering Eddie Kramer (and producer of most of Jimi's posthumous live albums) must have realized that this was when The Experience was at its peak.

In The West was the first live album to be released after Jimi's untimely death.

Forty years later, Music On Vinyl is re-releasing it with a number of beautiful extra's: three bonus tracks that have never been released before, along with a booklet of unpublished photographs by Jim Marshall, who was also responsible for the iconic cover artwork.

The Gil Evans Orchestra Plays The Music Of Jimi Hendrix (Speakers Corner)

Critics find this album rather difficult to evaluate. Their judgement ranges from a colourful mixture to a successful cover album to a masterly fusion and an homage to an artist whose life came to an end far too soon - Jimi Hendrix. Jimi had long been gone when this album was recorded in 1974. But it is almost superfluous to look back to the legendary Hendrix if you focus on the great Gil Evans. After such milestones as Birth Of The Cool and Sketches Of Spain it isn't difficult to regard these late audiophile masterpieces as a logical development of Evans's exceptional skill as an arranger.
When you listen - or rather experience - how the crystal-clear sound in Angel is heightened to an emphatic ballad on the saxophone, or how rich soulful vocals storm ahead in a funky style (Crosstown Traffic), or fluffy, cloud-like sounds are built up on the flutes in Castles Made From Sand, then it is no longer of importance who thought out the music. It is sufficient that it exists and is pleasing to all who hear it. It is also unimportant whether one reveres Hendrix's immemorable melodies or whether one pays homage to Evans's visionary soundworld: a recording such as this could only be born of the two.

    Musicians:

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

First-Ever Release of One Of The Guitar Virtuoso's Most Sought-After Performances, As Originally Recorded On Site By Hendrix's Long Term Sound Engineer, Eddie Kramer.

Jimi Hendrix Experience: Miami Pop Festival introduces the first recorded stage performances of Hear My Train A Comin' and Tax Free while showcasing definitive live takes on such classics as Fire, Hey Joe, I Don't Live Today and Purple Haze. The package includes never before published photos taken at the festival and an essay by award-winning music journalist and Grammy Museum Executive Director Bob Santelli.

The first ever major rock festival staged on the East Coast, the May 1968 Miami Pop Festival was the first event promoted by Michael Lang--who would organize Woodstock, the biggest pop culture event of the decade, fifteen months later--and Ric O'Barry, who had been the dolphin trainer for the popular television program Flipper. Lang and O'Barry had been inspired by the June 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, the groundbreaking gathering where Jimi Hendrix, making his US debut, famously set fire to his guitar at the conclusion of his performance. Lang staged the festival at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, Florida, securing the Jimi Hendrix Experience as the headline act for the two-day festival.

Carefully Restored From The Original Analog Master Tapes

Carefully restored from the original analog master tapes, featuring original poster and alternate cover art, the Legacy edition of the Jimi Hendrix Experience's Smash Hits includes timeless classics like Purple Haze, Hey Joe, Red House (a different take from the UK Are You Experienced version), Fire plus 8 more essential Hendrix tracks. First released in 1969, Smash Hits has proved to be immensely popular, serving as a critical introduction to the Hendrix canon for successive generations of fans.

This 2016 edition of Smash Hits includes a recreation of the poster that came with the original U.S. LP release, depicting band members Jimi Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding dressed in western attire on horseback. The photograph, taken by Grammy-winning photographer Ed Thrasher (Grateful Dead, Neil Young, the Beach Boys) at Warner Bros. film studios in Burbank, CA in early 1969, was conceived as sleeve art for the album. Now, for the first time ever, Thrasher's photo finally graces the cover of Smash Hits, as originally intended.

    Never Before Released Recordings

People, Hell & Angels is a new album of twelve never before released Jimi Hendrix studio recordings. This special album showcases the legendary guitarist working outside of the original Jimi Hendrix Experience trio. Beginning in 1968, Jimi Hendrix grew restless, eager to develop new material with old friends and new ensembles. Outside the view of a massive audience that had established the Experience as rock's largest grossing concert act and simultaneously placed two of his albums together in the US Top 10 sales chart, Jimi was busy working behind the scenes to craft his next musical statement.

Lacquers Cut from the Original Tapes at Sterling Sound by Iconic Engineer George Marino Under the Supervision of Eddie Kramer

Pressed and Plated at RTI: Amazing Analog Sound Betters All Prior Vinyl and Digital Editions

Hear Hendrix Propel the 12-Bar Blues Into the Future: 11 Extraordinary Songs Recorded Between 1966 and 1970

Originally released in 1994, the Jimi Hendrix Blues album features 11 blues performances recorded by Hendrix between 1966 and 1970 showcasing the guitarist's mastery of the 12-bar form. This double-LP audiophile edition of Blues is arguably the best packaged, richest sounding, most coherent post-mortem release from the Hendrix archives.

Framed by his poignant 1967 acoustic 12-string rendition of Hear My Train 'A Comin' and a stirring 1970 trio performance, these 11 rough and ready tracks illustrate Hendrix's deep spiritual connections to his blues roots and his daring experimental take on the shape of future blues to come. And they've never sounded so vital, necessary, or dynamic.

Cut from the original tapes at Sterling Sound by iconic engineer George Marino under the supervision of Eddie Kramer, and pressed and plated at RTI, this 2LP version will forever stand as the definitive-sounding, high-performance edition of this historic document. You know Hendrix and Co.'s penchant for thrusting the blues into new dimensions. Now experience it like never before.

Audio Completely Mixed And Re-mastered Under The Direction Of Jimi's Long Time
    Sound Engineer, Eddie Kramer

Includes The Previously Unreleased 1966 Recording, "Station Break"

This special compilation presents Jimi Hendrix's 1965-
1967 sessions with Curtis Knight & The Squires prior to his
international fame leading the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

While Jimi Hendrix's intermittent tenure as a guitarist for
Curtis Knight & The Squires in 1965 and 1966 was relatively
brief, more than 100 albums have been crafted from
approximately forty studio recordings and consumer grade
stage recordings by the group. Most featured low fidelity
variations, remixes, edited versions, and instrumentals of
the same material-often with their song titles changed.
These albums were poorly annotated and all too often
featured cover art that depicted the guitarist at the peak
of his Jimi Hendrix Experience fame (and not as 'Jimmy
Hendrix,' a sideman to Curtis Knight) and thus snared
unwitting fans throughout the world that were starved for
    new Hendrix music for decades.

Jimi Hendrix was hamstrung throughout his career by
litigation over these recordings in the US and UK and these
fights continued until his family ultimately prevailed in
litigation. You Can't Use My Name stands as their first
attempt to present this music in its original context.

You Can't Use My Name is newly mixed and prepared
for release by Eddie Kramer and includes the previously
unreleased 1966 recording "Station Break," the full length
versions of "Knock Yourself Out [Flying On Instruments],"
"No Such Animal," and the 1967 recording of "Gloomy
Monday" that includes dialogue between Hendrix and
producer Ed Chalpin (featuring the guitarist's request that
the producer not use his name on this session because of
    the ongoing litigation between them).

    Band Of Gypsys

The Jimi Hendrix Experience disbanded after 3 albums, but Jimi quickly formed a new band with bassist Billy Cox and his drummer friend Buddy Miles; the Band of Gypsys. Musically the Band of Gypsys leaned more towards Jimi's funk/R&B roots than the psychedelic rock sound of the Experience.

The Band of Gypsys made their live debut at the Fillmore East on New Year's Eve, 1969, for a series of four shows spread over two nights. A compilation of these shows saw the light as the eponymous live album 'Band of Gypsys'. Containing definitive versions of Machine Gun and Who Knows!

    Band of Gypsies

Following the breakup of the Experience, Jimi Hendrix took a sabbatical in Woodstock, New York, hooked up with bassist Billy Cox and began jamming with a wide variety of musicians, including R&B drummer Buddy Miles. He had become self-conscious about his image as a showman and rocker and about the limitations of thrashing through the same repertoire night after night. Band Of Gypsys was Hendrix's attempt to redefine himself, and in a way heralded his return to the ethos of the blues and R&B, a return assisted by a powerhouse, groove-oriented rhythm section. Band Of Gypsys was certainly different from Hendrix's work with the Experience, but rivals it in terms of scope, vision and beauty.

    Miami Pop Festival

    Gatefold Sleeve

    Numbered Edition

    Includes 8-Page Booklet

Miami Pop Festival by the Jimi Hendrix Experience is the first-ever release of one of the guitar virtuoso's most sought-after performances, as originally recorded on site by Hendrix's long term sound engineer, Eddie Kramer. The live recording introduces the first recorded stage performances of Hear My Train A Comin' and Tax Free while showcasing definitive live takes on such classics as Fire, Hey Joe, I Don't Live Today and Purple Haze.

This lavish double LP package includes an 8-page booklet containing never before published photos taken at the festival and an essay by award-winning music journalist and Grammy Museum Executive Director Bob Santelli.

Quinn Sullivan's third studio album, Midnight Highway, scheduled for release on January 27th, 2017, was produced by multi Grammy® winner Tom Hambridge, who also doubles as Quinn's drummer. The album was recorded primarily at the prestigious Blackbird Studio with some of the greatest Nashville musicians, including bassists Michael Rhodes and Tom MacDonald, guitarist Rob McNelley, and keyboard player Reese Wynans, a veteran ofStevie Ray Vaughan's Double Trouble.

Quinn has been a music professional more than three-quarters Of his life. Beginning his career at age 3, Quinn, who is currently a high school student, has shared the stage with Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Los Lobos, The Roots, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi and Joe Bonamassa, and also opened for B.B. King, who later invited him to play his treasured "Lucille" guitar.

He has performed concerts and at festivals throughout the United States - including storied venues like Hollywood bowl, RFK stadium, and Madison Square Garden - traveled overseas - performing at both the Montreux Jazz Festival and India's Mahindra Blues Festival - and played several editions of the Experience Hendrix tour, backed by Jimi's original bassist Billy Cox.

A protÉgÉ of Buddy Guy, Quinn always follows his mentor's advice: "Just go out there and show them why you're here Make them remember you."

    The Cry Of Love

Remastered By Bernie Grundman From The Original Analog Masters

The Cry Of Love is being reissued vinyl, reintroduced with original album art and track orders and remastered by Bernie Grundman from the original analog masters.

Originally released in 1971, and last issued on CD in 1992, The Cry Of Love was compiled and mixed by Hendrix's longtime engineer Eddie Kramer and Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell. The bulk of these tracks were recorded between December 1969 and the summer of 1970 at Electric Lady Studios in New York, and were intended to be part of an ambitious double LP tentatively titled First Rays of the New Rising Sun. Commercially, The Cry Of Love was a huge success, reaching #3 in the U.S. and #2 in the UK, and spawned favorites such as ''Angel,'' ''Freedom,'' and ''Ezy Ryder.'' While Mitch Mitchell and bassist Billy Cox comprised the rhythm section on the lion's share of the tracks, Buddy Miles played drums on ''Ezy Ryder'' and Noel Redding played bass on ''My Friend'' (recorded in 1968, before his departure from the Jimi Hendrix Experience). The Cry Of Love also includes the participation of notable guest musicians including Steve Winwood, Chris Wood and Buzzy Linhart among others.

    Hear My Music

Hear My Music is a collection of instrumental recordings that reveals just a few of the creative explorations Jimi Hendrix was undertaking throughout the first half of 1969. Never intended for release in their present state, this collection shines further light on his creative development and unending quest for new musical challenges. The diversity of these recordings-from solo demos to group efforts with The Experience to free form jam sessions-make clear Hendrix's sheer love of playing music and interacting with fellow musicians in any setting whatsoever.

Ex The Animals musician & entrepreneur Chas Chandler had brought Hendrix to the UK, teaming him up with drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding. Recordings for Are You Experienced had begun in late October 1966, producing a string of singles preceding the illustrious first album by the world's most famous guitarist. While recording, the future working relationship between engineer Eddie Kramer and Hendrix was forged. The debut album by The Jimi Hendrix Experience was initially issued in mono and then 'enhanced stereo' on later issues.

The UK cover photography was by Bruce Flemming. Releases in Europe had the words Jimi Hendrix placed above the title. These later issues were 'enhanced stereo', with tracks listed on the back.

The USA & Canadian issues were released after the band appeared at the Monterey Pop Festival in June 1967, along with The Who. Its art was directed by Ed Thrasher, using a Karl Ferris infra-red fish-eye photo. Kevin Parker (vocals/guitar) and Dominic Simper (bass) formed Tame Impala as 13-year-olds in Perth in 1999, sticking to bedroom recordings until 2007, when Jay Watson joined them on drums and backing vocals. Their sound was pure late '60s, but wasn't the sound of any specific band from the era. They were as likely to be channeling the Nazz as the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Cocooned away inside walls of psychedelic fuzz in Western Australia they re-created their preferred period one song at a time with the aid of gear and production techniques that sounded like they hadn't been dusted off since 1968.
