    Explorations

Explorations is an album by jazz musician Bill Evans originally released on Riverside label in 1961. The album won the Billboard Jazz Critics Best Piano LP poll for 1961. Explorations was the second album Evans recorded with his trio of Scott LaFaro on bass and Paul Motian on drums. Evans considered it one of his favorites from this period.

Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing of this 1961 release including one bonus track. Explorations, recorded on February 2, 1961, was Bill Evans fourth LP as a leader and the second studio album by the legendary Evans trio with Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian. The Evans-LaFaro-Motian Trio would reach a climax with their June 25, 1961 club recordings at the Village Vanguard in New York. LaFaro would die in a car accident just ten days later, at the age of 25. Evans was so shocked by his bassist's death that he waited a long time before forming a new trio.

Al Green Explores Your Mind (Pure Pleasure)

By the time of 1974's Al Green Explores Your Mind, this version of the Memphis sound was the production style for only a handful of artists. Producer Willie Mitchell used a lighter touch for his most famous artist, and it's all but crafted into the Al Green sound. Despite his skills, Green never falls into mannerism here and gives heartfelt and cogent vocals rooted in intelligence and technique. Sha-La-La (Make Me Happy), although lyrically slight, has the artist's charisma and Mitchell's pop chops. Take Me to the River, with perfect backing from Hi Rhythm and a horn and string arrangement, finds Green at his most persuasive. The last track, School Days, has Green longing for a school girlfriend and despite the potentially sappy sentiment, it works like a charm. The greatness of Al Green Explores Your Mind comes from a collective effort, including James Mitchell's dreamlike string arrangements and the always skilled backing vocals of Rhodes, Chalmers & Rhodes. But the biggest draw here is Green's phrasing and intimate vocals, making the record an extremely strong effort.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

On the heels of the recently released 7, Reality Protest, New York Citys mastermind Gary War delivers a new six song EP. Police Water sees Wars audio explorations breaking new ground in electronic prog and pop other-worlds. These new pieces reveal new experiments in song-approach, structure, sampling and tightly synced synthesization. Meanwhile War delves further into tape manipulation and post-future digital recording techniques. The first artist-sanctioned reissue of iconoclastic English-born, Rome-based folk and experimental music legend Mike Cooper's classic 1970 album, this remastered version of Trout Steel presents a heady homebrew of lap steel and slide blues traditions, avant-jazz group improvisations, and studio explorations that presaged Cooper's adventurous work for decades to come. Hear My Music

Hear My Music is a collection of instrumental recordings that reveals just a few of the creative explorations Jimi Hendrix was undertaking throughout the first half of 1969. Never intended for release in their present state, this collection shines further light on his creative development and unending quest for new musical challenges. The diversity of these recordings-from solo demos to group efforts with The Experience to free form jam sessions-make clear Hendrix's sheer love of playing music and interacting with fellow musicians in any setting whatsoever.

    Boerum Palace

    Colored Vinyl

Boerum Palace is Steve Gunn's second album, originally released in 2009. The album starts off with a headlong rush into the hypnotic "Mr. Franklin". Gunn's fluid playing style, especially as portrayed within this track, provides ample space for the development of infectious musical themes. The track ends in a dextrous duel between Gunn's guitar and guest Marc Orleans' (of D. Charles Speer & the Helix, Sunburned Hand of the Man) vicious pedal steel. The album mixes Gunn's long-form blues / raga / psych explorations alongside briefer cuts that equally display his songcraft. These tracks, such as "Variation II" and "Jadin's Dream," demonstrate that Gunn is equally confident with shorter or longer compositions. Gunn's voice is joined by an ethereal turn from the Vanishing Voice's Heidi Diehl on the album's central and haunting "House of Knowledge." The track opens with a building central guitar theme. This theme allows Gunn to layer on further guitar explorations. The tone set by these musical themes builds into the duo's vocal delivery that delivers volumes despite being uttered in gentle tones. Other highlights include "Cryin' Eyes," an inspired reworking of J.J. Cale's "Crying Eyes" featuring backing instrumentation from Marc Orleans, and the richly textured album finale "Mustapha's Exit."

Female/male duo White Hex (Tara Green and Jimi Kritzler)
released their debut album Heat in 2012 released on Avant!
Records. 2014 sees their return with the follow up full-length,
Gold Nights. The album is the second in a series of three
thematically connected records which is based on a period of
three years. The album's themes include tackling the deaths of
friends over the past few years and somehow staying optimistic
    through that loss.

Recorded after shows in Paris, Berlin, New York and Melbourne,
Gold Nights explores Italo disco, minimalist techno and the more
primitive end of 1980's German underground. They embrace their
love of high fashion, 1980's New York vogue techno and the
mutant explorations of Whitehouse, Arthur Russell, Craig Leon
and Gianni Rossi. Gold Nights retains certain elements of their
beloved debut, but moves in a more sophisticated direction as a
result of White Hex's vision and with the help of producer Alex
    Akers (Forces-Siberia Records).

    The Soft Bulletin

The Flaming Lips followed-up their interactive 1997 extravaganza Zaireeka in typical unforeseen fashion by releasing their 1999 magnum opus The Soft Bulletin, the most emotionally accessible and musically grandiose statement of the band's career. Wayne Coyne's plaintive and spiritual explorations on the human experience are brought to life as never before here by a symphonic multidimensional sound that is as beautiful as it is transcendent. Featuring ethereal and poignant classics like Race For The Prize, Waitin' For A Superman, Suddenly Everything Has Changed and Feeling Yourself Disintegrate among others, The Soft Bulletin proved to be that elusive artistic breakthrough from a band that looked destined to be eternally restless. Not only is The Soft Bulletin a high water mark for The Flaming Lips on multiple levels, it's arguably one of the best recordings of the decade plus.

    Traces Of You

Anoushka Shankar returns with another outstanding recording: Traces of You, featuring three new songs with her half-sister, Norah Jones.

Traces of You developed from the notion that everything in the universe leaves an indelible mark - or a subtle trace - on everything it encounters.
Inspired by her relationships, multicultural upbringing and global career, Anoushka traces a journey of love, change and loss.

Produced by British composer and multi-instrumentalist Nitin Sawhney, Traces of You features contributions by Anoushka's longtime associates, tabla
genius Tanmoy Bose, flutist Ravichandra Kulur, and percussion wizard Pirashanna Thevarajah. Other highlights are the collaboration with Norah Jones,
and explorations of the unique sound of the Hang drum, played by its foremost exponent, Manu Delago.

Traces of You draws on Indian classical ragas, Western classical string arrangements, mid-20th century-style lyrics of extended poetry and modern
soundscapes. Anoushka finds modern and fresh ways to reinterpret and keep alive Indian musical traditions learned from her father, the legendary Ravi
    Shankar.

    Reflections: Mojave Desert

The project started simply because we were on tour with the band, had just finished FYF fest in LA, and had a week before picking up the rest of the tour in Phoenix. On the way, we stopped for a week near Joshua Tree National Park. The idea was to go somewhere fairly remote and setup to rehearse. It was peak summer, so we set up outside and would be playing throughout the day and night. Whilst we were out playing and exploring the area around us - the sound reflecting from the rocks, the sound of the wind between them, complete stillness at night and packs of roaming coyotes in the distance, it became apparent that we could use this as its own unique recording environment. Anna in our crew creates the projections for our live show but is predominantly a filmmaker. We made a few calls to friends in LA and borrowed some film/sound gear and recorded some of the new music that came out of the rehearsals. Through the process of making this record, we decided to start a series of musical & video explorations in interesting locations, where the music is a function of its surroundings. This first experiment only marks the beginning of this idea, and I am currently seeking new interesting acoustic environments to explore.

    H-P1

Musically, H-p1, White Hills second full-length for Thrill Jockey, expands on the explorations of previous albums in ambience, noise and space rock all led by guitarist Dave W.'s blistering guitar solos. A notable difference is the addition of synthesizer player, Shazzula, for the recordings. Shazzula has performed with the group in Europe on and off throughout the last year.

There was no compression used on the record. Instead distortion boxes were used to enhance the natural dynamics of the songs. The recordings captured a natural ebb and flow of the instruments within each song. For this reason I did not ride the faders while mixing the record to bring out certain instruments over others. It is the way it happened when it was recorded. said Dave W.

This is the most fully realized White Hills album to date and the one that takes them furthest from their pure space rock roots. It is also their most angry record. It is a reaction to what White Hills sees as government co-opted and controlled by corporations. It is a wake up call.

    Limited Edition Of 2,000 Copies

    Features All 45 Rare B-Sides & Outtakes

While supplies last, we are offering this very special limited-edition vinyl-only double album, Music For A French Elevator And Other Oddities. Originally available
as a part of the hugely acclaimed, super-deluxe A Dot In Time. box set, Music For A French Elevator compiles all of the Books' non-album tracks into one fittingly surreal package befitting the group who essentially created their own genre (often reluctantly described as "collage-pop").

A total of 45 tracks are here, including standouts and longtime favorites "Classy Penguin," "8 Frame," and their sublime Nick Drake cover "Cello Song Feat. Jose Gonzales." Along with their commissioned pieces for the 1% art and sound installation in the Ministry of Culture in Paris, France, the collection includes the Books' unreleased film score for the feature-length Biosphere 2 documentary, a stellar collection of counterpoint electroacoustic explorations that emanate the kind of wry charm and wit that became a staple of the Books' music.

Packaged in an impeccably designed die-cut jacket with metallic inks, this collection proves that even the Books' non-album material is worthy of emphatic celebration and
    adoration.

    Combat Rock (Awaiting Repress)

Newly Remastered By The Clash From Original Tapes To Audiophile Quality

All Artwork Recreated From Original Release Including Replicated Fully Printed Inner Sleeves With An Exclusive Pennie Smith Photo Print

On the surface of things, Combat Rock appears to be a retreat from the sprawling stylistic explorations of London Calling and Sandinista! The pounding arena rock of Should I Stay or Should I Go makes the Clash sound like an arena rock band, and much of the album boasts a muscular, heavy sound courtesy of producer Glyn Johns. But things aren't quite that simple. Combat Rock contains heavy flirtations with rap, funk, and reggae, and it even has a cameo by poet Allen Ginsberg -- if this album is, as it has often been claimed, the Clash's sellout effort, it's a very strange way to sell out. Even with the infectious, dance-inflected new wave pop of Rock the Casbah leading the way, there aren't many overt attempts at crossover success, mainly because the group is tearing in two separate directions. Mick Jones wants the Clash to inherit the Who's righteous arena rock stance, and Joe Strummer wants to forge ahead into black music. The result is an album that is nearly as inconsistent as Sandinista!, even though its finest moments -- Should I Stay or Should I Go, Rock the Casbah, Straight to Hell -- illustrate why the Clash were able to reach a larger audience than ever before with the record.

    Paul Simon (Awaiting Repress)

If any musical justification were needed for the breakup of Simon & Garfunkel, it could be found on this striking collection, Paul Simon's post-split debut. From the opening cut, Mother and Child Reunion (a Top Ten hit), Simon, who had snuck several subtle musical explorations into the generally conservative S&G sound, broke free, heralding the rise of reggae with an exuberant track recorded in Jamaica for a song about death. From there, it was off to Paris for a track in South American style and a rambling story of a fisherman's son, Duncan (which made the singles chart). But most of the album had a low-key feel, with Simon on acoustic guitar backed by only a few trusted associates (among them Joe Osborn, Larry Knechtel, David Spinozza, Mike Manieri, Ron Carter, and Hal Blaine, along with such guests as Stefan Grossman, Airto Moreira, and Stephane Grappelli), singing a group of informal, intimate, funny, and closely observed songs (among them the lively Top 40 hit Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard). It was miles removed from the big, stately ballad style of Bridge Over Troubled Water and signaled that Simon was a versatile songwriter as well as an expressive singer with a much broader range of musical interests than he had previously demonstrated. You didn't miss Art Garfunkel on Paul Simon, not only because Simon didn't write Garfunkel-like showcases for himself, but because the songs he did write showed off his own, more varied musical strengths.

    Ode To A Rainy Day

All Unreleased Material Spanning Robert Lester Folsom's Early Years

    Previously Unreleased Photos And Art

Liner Notes Written By Robert Lester Folsom

Anthology Recordings is pleased to present Ode To A
Rainy Day: Archives 1972-1975, a collection of previously
unreleased home recordings from Robert Lester Folsom.
The 13 tracks in this collection capture the halcyon,
wide-eyed experiments of Folsom who, after going
halves in a reel-to-reel tape recorder with a friend,
recorded all of this material over college summer breaks
in barns, screened porches and bedrooms across Adel,
Georgia. Folsom crafts a delicate form of folk-rock, with
a knack for penning gorgeous ballads (See You Later
I'm Gone, Can't See You), spellbinding instrumental
explorations (Oblivion) and elements of dusty
psychedelia (the farfisa-peppered Written In Your Hair
and On And On). There are echoes of Neil Young
(Southern Man was a favorite cover of Folsom's), Nick
Drake and early Fairport Convention in Folsom's form
and lyricism, that would later become more realized on
his full-length Music And Dreams (1976). Perhaps just as
precious as the songs revived in this collection is the
youthful sense of excitement and experimentation that
    has been captured and preserved.

Hannibal OST Season 2 Vol 2 (Colored Vinyl)

    Hemochrome Red Colored Vinyl

Invada Records are proud to announce the vinyl release of two volumes of music from season 2 of hit NBC television series HANNIBAL by Brian Reitzell. Spread across two double gatefold LPs with each volume available as 140gm and colored variants. Accompanying the release, director David Slade has provided rare photos from his personal collection for the artwork. Each double LP is housed in a gatefold sleeve. The music has been sequenced in the chronological order they appears on the show itself, allowing for an essential listening experience as dictated by the music's creator. Over the last decade and a half, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Reitzell has created his own unique method of scoring films, drawing equally from his experience as a recording and touring musician with bands such as Redd Kross and Air, and his massive knowledge of recorded music. His vision is to create a seamless landscape of songs, score, and found music for each soundtrack. Brian's explorations of new sounds add unique character to visual images. Brian's past films include THE VIRGIN SUICIDES, LOST IN TRANSLATION (for which he received a BAFTA award nomination), CQ, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, STRANGER THAN FICTION, THUMBSUCKER, MARIE ANTOINETTE, THE BROTHERS BLOOM, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, BEGINNERS, and RED RIDING HOOD. His video game credits include his critically acclaimed score for THQ's RED FACTION: ARMAGEDDON and the upcoming WATCH DOGS for Ubisoft.
