    Pure Comedy

Standard 2x Black Vinyl Housed In A Gatefold Jacket

Comes With 1 Of 4 Different Cover Color Schemes With Custom Dust Sleeves - Shipped At Random

Pure Comedy, Father John Misty's third album, is a complex, often-sardonic, and, equally often, touching meditation on the confounding folly of modern humanity. Father John Misty is the brainchild of singer-songwriter Josh Tillman. Tillman has released two widely acclaimed albums - Fear Fun (2012) and I Love You, Honeybear (2015) - and the recent "Real Love Baby" single as Father John Misty, and recently contributed to songs by BeyoncÉ, Lady Gaga, and Kid Cudi.

While we could say a lot about Pure Comedy - including that it is a bold, important album in the tradition of American songwriting greats like Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, and Leonard Cohen - we think it's best to let its creator describe it himself. Take it away, Mr. Tillman: Pure Comedy is the story of a species born with a half-formed brain. The species' only hope for survival, nding itself on a cruel, unpredictable rock surrounded by other species who seem far more adept at this whole thing (and to whom they are delicious), is the reliance on other, slightly older, half-formed brains. This reliance takes on a few different names as their story unfolds, like "love," "culture," "family," etc. Over time, and as their brains prove to be remarkably good at inventing meaning where there is none, the species becomes the purveyor of increasingly bizarre and sophisticated ironies. These ironies are designed to help cope with the species' loathsome vulnerability and to try and reconcile how disproportionate their imagination is to the monotony of their existence. Something like that.

Pure Comedy was recorded in 2016 at the legendary United Studios (Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Beck) in Hollywood, CA. It was produced by Father John Misty and Jonathan Wilson, with engineering by Misty's longtime sound-person Trevor Spencer and orchestral arrangements by renowned composer/double-bassist Gavin Bryars (known for extensive solo work, and work with Brian Eno, Tom Waits, Derek Bailey).

Child Is Father to the Man is the debut album by Blood, Sweat & Tears. Originally released in February 1968, the album cover was considered quite innovative showing the band members sitting and standing with child-sized versions of themselves.

Blood, Sweat & Tears was originally formed by Al Kooper. Members included at time of recording were Randy Brecker on trumpet, Bobby Colomby on drums, Steve Katz on guitar and Jim Fielder on bass amongst others. Child Is Father to the Man reached number 47 on Billboard's pop album chart and is considered an album which draws in folk, blues and jazz elements fusing with rock.

Although they would go on to become one of the most commercially successful acts of the 1970s, most observers agree that Blood, Sweat & Tears 1968 debut effort Child Is Father to the Man remains the ambitious ensembles finest and most enduring musical statement. The bands only album under the leadership of legendary singer / keyboardist Al Kooper, Child Is Father to the Man stands with such late-60s art-pop landmarks as the Zombies Odessey and Oracle and Loves Forever Changes in capturing the periods seemingly limitless creative possibilities.
Child Is Father to the Man is a brilliant reflection of the desire of Koopera former member of the seminal Blues Project and a key collaborator in Bob Dylans early electric workto use an expanded instrumental lineup to explore a broader range of sounds, styles and compositional approaches. Towards that end, he launched Blood, Sweat & Tears, recruiting a stellar assortment of players from the worlds of rock and jazz, including ex-Blues Project guitarist Steve Katz, former Buffalo Springfield/Mothers of Invention bassist Jim Fielder, jazz drummer Bobby Colomby and noted jazz horn players Randy Brecker, Dick Halligan, Fred Lipsius and Jerry Weiss.

The resulting album (produced by fabled studio genius John Simon) was a seamlessly eclectic psychedelic-rock-jazz-classical fusion, with such diverse tracks as Koopers gritty compositions I Cant Quit Her and I Love You More Than Youll Ever Know, as well as his playfully arty House in the Country and The Modern Adventures of Plato, Diogenes and Freud, along with stirring readings of Tim Buckleys Morning Glory, Harry Nilssons Without Her and Randy Newmans Just One Smile.

Koopers expansive musical vision may have been a bit too far ahead of its time. Although it was a favorite of early FM album-rock DJs, Child Is Father to the Man barely scraped the Billboard Top 50 and failed to produce a hit single. However, in the years since, the album has been widely recognized for its expressiveness and originality, and embraced by successive generations of listeners. For instance, it received a prominent placement in Rolling Stones 2003 ranking of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Now, Child Is Father to the Man is back in its original vinyl format with Sundazeds definitive new LP edition. With meticulously reproduced original cover art, this vintage musical landmark has been remastered from the original analog master tapes and is pressed on high-quality, high-definition vinyl.

Legendary Delta Bluesman's Columbia LP Now On 200-Gram Vinyl!

One Of The Truly Great Audiophile Blues Recordings Of All Time!

Lacquers Cut By Ryan Smith At Sterling Sound From The Original Master Tape

Plated And Pressed At Quality Record Pressings!

Heavyweight Glossy Tip-On Jacket By Stoughton Printing

Mississippi's Son House was already legendary for a small collection of live field recordings made by folklorist Alan Lomax in 1941 and 1942, and for having taught some important licks to both Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters before he was rediscovered by a new generation of college-age fans in 1964.

The Father of the Delta Blues recorded this namesake LP for Columbia Records a year later in 1965. It's become, in the words of Living Blues magazine - Essential recordings by one of the greatest bluesmen ever. And now, Analogue Productions presents a reissue unmatched in sonic quality and luxury presentation. For our version we turned to Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound to remaster the recording from the original master tapes. The freshly cut lacquers were then plated and pressed on 200-gram vinyl by our own Quality Record Pressings.

Son was born Eddie James House, Jr., on March 21, 1902, in Riverton, Miss. By the age of 15, he was preaching the gospel in various Baptist churches as the family seemingly wandered from one plantation to the next. He didn't even bother picking up a guitar until he turned 25; to quote House, I didn't like no guitar when I first heard it; oh gee, I couldn't stand a guy playin' a guitar. I didn't like none of it. But if his ambivalence to the instrument was obvious, even more obvious was the simple fact that Son hated plantation labor even more and had developed a taste for corn whiskey. After drunkenly launching into a blues at a house frolic in Lyon, Miss., one night and picking up some coin for doing it, the die seemed to be cast; Son House may have been a preacher, but he was part of the blues world now.

Now, sit back and enjoy one of the genre's greatest, on a reissue that's the best that's been made to date. So authentic, so real - that's the Analogue Productions difference.

    Absent Fathers

Following the success of his critically-acclaimed-fifth-studio-album, Single Mothers, Justin Townes Earle is pleased to announce the release of the companion album, Absent Fathers. Comprised of 10 tracks, Absent Fathers was recorded alongside Single Mothers as a double album, but as Justin began to sequence it, he felt each half
needed to make its own statement and they took on their own identities. Single Mothers was released on September 9, 2014 via Vagrant Records. Combined with Absent Fathers, the double album perfectly showcases exactly why Justin Townes Earle is considered a forefather of Contemporary Americana.

There'll be disappointment in store for those who expect to hear the voice of David Clayton-Thomas when listening to the present Blood, Sweat & Tears LP, Child Is Father To The Man. Experts will know however that on the group's very first album they will get to hear the excellent Al Kooper. The man is far more than a singer, for he not only plays the piano and various other keyboards but has also composed almost all the numbers and made the arrangements for the string ensemble. Bluesy pieces such as I Love You More and I Can't Quit Her and the vocals from Kooper are the real gems here. The amalgamation of pop, classic and jazz, which was made so popular in the Sixties by such groups as Chicago Transit Authority, Colosseum and Soft Machine, is here combined by Blood, Sweat & Tears with the acid-folk-rock mix emanating from San Francisco.
and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Father of the Delta Blues: The Complete 1965 Sessions (Pure Pleasure)

House's recording session ran over a few days and saw the studio set up like a small club with an invited audience. I remember John (Hammond) running around crazed, as was Son's manager, Dick Waterman (a man to whom Son owed everything). Al Wilson of Canned Heat was sat alongside Son, and once the recording started occasionally played harp and guitar. He appeared to have a decidedly calming influence on House, who throughout would turn to him to discuss various things. Once things had begun Son was quite nervous but ever so slowly, as time wore on, the emotional intensity of his performance transported one back to the Mississippi Delta c. 1930 when Son, as a young man, ruled the roost along with Delta legend Charlie Patton. And today, many years later, the images are frozen pieces of time, forever stored in my memory.

Excerpt from a piece by Lawrence Cohn who was present at the session.

    Musicians:

    • Son House (vocal, steel-guitar)

    • Al Wilson (guitar, harmonica)

Recording: April 1965 at Columbia's studios, New York City

Production: John Hammond and Frank Driggs

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Father, Son, Holy Ghost

Girls return with their long awaited second full-length. Both more spacious and tuneful than either their self-made debut or their lush EP, Father, Son, Holy Ghost is a gorgeous, ambitious rock album, enlivened by flashes of innocent pop and textured by its wealth of influences and willingness to face sadness.

Recorded in SF and LA with Doug Boehm and featuring a gospel choir on several tracks, the album draws from the rock songbook to tell its tales, it navigates from the Roy Orbison-esque heart-on-sleeve love songs the band is known for through to shoegaze, soul, metal, folk and gospel.

Father, Son, Holy Ghost is somehow both intimate and expansive. It captures the promise of early recordings and expands to cover new ground while still providing surprises at every turn. A triumphant accomplishment.

    Fear Fun

Father John Misty is the nom-de-plume of Josh Tillman, who has been releasing solo albums since 2003 and who recently left Seattle's Fleet Foxes after playing drums from 2008-2011. Fear Fun consists of such disparate elements as Waylon Jennings, Harry Nilsson, Arthur Russell, and Physical Graffiti, often within the same song. Tillman's voice has never been better, while the music maintains a dark, mysterious yet playful quality. Fear Fun is Father John Misty's Sub Pop debut and was produced by Phil Ek (Modest Mouse, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes).

    I Love You, Honeybear

I Love You, Honeybear was recorded intermittently from 2013 to 2014 in Echo Park, Los Angeles and produced with Jonathan Wilson, whom I also recorded and produced 2012's Fairly Fun with. There's a case to be made that it sounds and acts a bit like solo-era John Lennon, Scott Walker, Randy Newman, Harry Nilsson, and Dory Previn, while taking more than a few cues from Woody Allen, Kurt Vonnegut, Alejandro Jodorowsky and Muhammad Ali. Blammo.

It has a decidedly more soulful presence than Fear Fun, due in no small part to the fact that I am truly singing my ass off all over this motherfucker. The album is really characterized by the scope and ambition of the arrangements. Nearly every tune is augmented by something special, be it orchestral strings, a mariachi band, questionable electronic drum solos, ragtime jazz combos, soul singers, or what have you. I'm pretty sure there's a sitar in there somewhere. Blammo. My ambition, aside from making an indulgent, soulful, and epic sound worthy of the subject matter, was to address the sensuality of fear, the terrifying force of love,
the unutterable pleasures of true intimacy, and the destruction of emotional and intellectual prisons in my own voice. Blammo.

This material demanded a new way of being made, and it took a lot of time before the process revealed itself. The massive, deranged shmaltz I heard in my head, and knew had to be the sound of this record, originated a few years ago while Emma and I were hallucinating in Joshua Tree; the same week I wrote the title track. I chased that sound for the entire year and half we were recording. The means by which it was achieved bore a striking resemblance to the travails, abandon and transformation of loving someone. There: I said it. Blammo.

Keys To The Kingdom is a celebratory declaration of life in the face of death. Luther and Cody Dickinson lost their father Jim Dickinson only months before Luther became one. Black Cadillac

In the time that Rosanne Cash began writing and recording Black Cadillac, she lost her father Johnny Cash, her

    songs without self-pity.

Appearing on vinyl for the first time, this standard weight vinyl is being reissued in celebration of Capitol Records'

    Gregorian Chant

Father Godehard Joppich leads the Benedictine Abbey for this recording of Gregorian Chants.

The present recording of Gregorian chants is an attempt to make use of the most up-to-date research into the chant in interpretation. We should like to be able to present the melodies in their original flexible rhythms. This intention can only be satisfactorily realized when authenticity of expression is allied to a revised musical text. It was therefore found necessary to re-examine the melodies as published in the Editio Vaticana. Indeed the Second Vatican Council encouraged us in this aim by recommending that Gregorian chant should continue to be of primary importance in the liturgy, while the chant-books already available should be critically revised. - from liner notes by Father Godehard Joppich

    Havana Moon

The third Carlos Santana solo album marks a surprising turn toward 1950s rock & roll and Tex-Mex, with covers such as Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love" and Chuck Berry's title song. The album features performances by Booker T & the MGs, Willie Nelson and the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and also Carlos' father Jose singing "Vereda Tropical" - a song Carlos had first heard when his father was serenading his mother following an argument.

Produced by veteran R&B producers Jerry Wexler and Barry Beckett, the album features an eclectic mix of sidemen, including Booker T. Jones of Booker T & the MG's, Willie Nelson, Jimmie Vaughan, Flaco JimÉnez, Stephen Kupka (of Tower Of Power) and many more.

Havana Moon is a light effort, but it's one of Santana's most enjoyable albums, which may explain why it was also the best-selling Santana album outside the group releases in ten years.

    Oak Island

The son of a genetic engineer, Dave Hartley has eschewed his father's profession but decidedly inherited his analytical proclivities and love of the lab. As Nightlands, Hartley is a scientist trying to create and understand art through analytical process. Here, with sophomore album Oak Island, his follow up to 2010's superb Forget the Mantra, new questions are explored: what happens when the human voice is layered exponentially? Nightlands takes us on a spirit quest through lush forests down into The Uncanny Valley.

Blind Pilot turns loss into inspiration on its new album 'And Then Like Lions' (ATO Records). Written and composed by Israel Nebeker over the course of three years, the record is a transcendent, cathartic response to the loss of his father and end of a 13-year relationship. Blind Pilot teamed up with producer Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, Neko Case, My Morning Jacket) and the album was mixed by Peter Katis (The National, Interpol, Kurt Vile).

    Carve Every Word

Katie Buchan, aka Best Girl Athlete, has dreams like many other 15 year olds, but talent unlike any other. From Aberdeen, Scotland, Katie's enchanting voice and burgeoning song writing talent is truly remarkable. Not many teenagers care to be in the same room as their parents let alone play music with them. However, Katie is the exact opposite. Katie's father, CS Buchan, has been a pivotal inspiration to her musical career. Growing up watching her father perform in various bands, Katie has always played a part in offering critical comments for her father when he needed an honest opinion about his songs. Charley began writing for himself just over the last few years, anchoring his style in contemporary Scottish folk, and with Katie's involvement has begun to veer towards an indie pop direction, whilst firmly retaining that folk element. With her boundless enthusiasm for creating music and her carefree persona, Katie has already won hearts and Best Girl Athlete demonstrates a unique blend of youthfulness and maturity that is rarely seen in music.
