Freddie Hubbard entered Creed Taylor's studio for the
third time in 1971 with the express purpose of making
a record radically different from anything he'd cut
before; he was looking for it to use electricity and to be
out of the soul-jazz mold, but was also more ambitious
and wanted to push that envelope and himself. Taylor
and Hubbard assembled a band that included Herbie
Hancock , Eric Gale, George Benson, Ron Carter,
Jack DeJohnette, Airto Moreira, and Richard Wyands.
The album is part of a loose trilogy including his two
previous records, Red Clay and Straight Life. Now
available in its essential form, First Light was mastered
from original analog tapes and pressed on 180gram

First Light (Pure Pleasure)Freddie Hubbard was one of the most prolific jazz trumpeters in the business. He played a hot and sassy horn! When he was teamed up with George Benson, Jack DeJohnette and Ron Carter (just to name a few) on this one of many Creed Taylor-produced collaborations, he most deservedly won the Grammy!
The opening title song First Light has an ethereal beginning with a diverse arrangement. An unusual arrangement of Paul McCartney's Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey is most satisfying. Henry Mancini's Moment To Moment has a hauntingly sweet sound. Lonely Town is darkly complex.
There are many sides and moods to each of the songs within this original work. With stylish jazzy rhythms and rich orchestrations, this is THE Freddie Hubbard album to have!

About Pure Pleasure
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. First Light

First Light's FreezeA dark, mutant-country sound infused with strands of free-jazz and a late-70's Nashville big-radio strut hijacked by post-punk unravelers. The result is a beautiful mix of somber reflection, destination-unknown travelogue, and subversive anti-war boogie. Freeze confronts the mythology of war and friendship; the close proximity of things painful and pleasurable, and the complications of this as a paradigm for the world. In 1976 Johnny Rotten and the Sex Pistols set the agenda for punk's year zero with 'Anarchy In The UK', a song that summed up the spirit, sound and attitude of the band in one shocking package. Two years later, the Sex Pistols were in tatters, but Rotten was as unsentimental as you'd hope. He reverted to his real name - John Lydon - and set about forming a band whose very identity kicked against press and media manipulation. Featuring bassist Jah Wobble, drummer Jim Walker and guitarist Keith Levene, his new group were Public Image Limited. The public image would be limited.
PiL were a very distinct prospect from the Pistols, founded with a greater thought for rhythm, and with a sound that turned the page from snarling punk to a more experimental sound fusing rock, dance, folk, ballet, pop and dub. But that's not to say Lydon's new outfit lacked vitriol. 'Public Image' hits out against the notorious British tabloid press, who never gave Lydon an easy ride, and against his own Sex Pistols public image - "You only saw me for the clothes I wore".
The debut single (and the album that followed) operated as a theme song and a manifesto: " my entrance/My own creation/My grand finale/My goodbye," as the lyrics had it. It is, essentially, the sound of four people letting loose in a studio - and not caring what anyone else thought.1. Theme

Cast The First StonePressed On Camo Green Vinyl
Death metal is more than just music. It transcends such a limited mortal state of mind. Death metal is the aural expression of humanity's darkest side, of devastation, sorrow and the harbingers of mankind's own inhumanity and ultimate destruction. Death metal is not a trend, a fashion parade or a means to an end. It is much more than that. It is a way of life. A life in death.
This is the doctrine Italy's HOUR OF PENANCE, spewn forth with unrelenting musical ferocity through their sickening, mind-obliterating auditory assault on the senses.
Forged in the dark shadows of "The Holy Capital," this most unholy of quartets have steadily been making a name for themselves as one of the most intense, talented and impressive modern death metal bands both in-studio and onstage.
Like clockworks Hour of Penance is ready to release "Cast the First Stone" as the follow-up of his last successful album Regicide. Releasing an album every 2 years, the band has been described by the fans and worldwide press as one of the most "productive" band in the genre, "Cast the First Stone" will mark album number 7 in the band's career .
Singer Paolo Pieri describes the concept of the new album : "Cast the First stone" revolves around the idea that the injustices suffered during the Crusades and Colonialism cannot justify indefinitely a chain of hate that propagandize the destruction of the West. I believe that the political situation in recent years has brought to light again a millennial conflict between West and East, and events like the terrorist attack at the Bataclan, where we only played a few months before the massacre, have influenced the lyrics on this record very much.
It does not matter who has thrown the first stone, but who first evolved his ideology to seek peace and coexistence instead of war to the bitter end. In Europe, people have massacred each other for millennia but in the last 60 years, we were able to overcome differences and secular hatred that divided us, while the blind hatred of Islamic extremism is bringing entire geographic areas back to the darkest middle ages.
We find ourselves once again in front of a war between reason and religion, and unless we take a strong stand in defense of our Western values, we risk falling into chaos because of a weak and coward enemy stubbornly convinced of his senseless laws."
Lead guitarist and songwriter, Giulio Moschini, adds : "Sonically speaking , this is the best sounding album we've ever recorded , we really worked hard on this, listening to the album countless times before finally delivering the masters to Prosthetic Records.. it was definitely worth the wait and we're 100% satisfied by the great work our bass player Marco Mastrobuono has done behind the mixing desk. We've literally spent weeks trying different micing techniques, hardware, preamps- trying to avoid plugins technologies as much as we could. We wanted our album to sound more dynamic and I think that we've achieved that 100%. "
Since releasing 2012's acclaimed "Sedition", which Decibel lauded as a "hyper-blasting, inhuman, machine-like attack," HOUR OF PENANCE has annihilated fans worldwide with its fiery exuberance, playing well over 200 gigs alongside such acts as BEHEMOTH, SKELETONWITCH, CANNIBAL CORPSE, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, DEVILDRIVER, PSYCROPTIC, MISERY INDEX, DEICIDE, BELPHEGOR, NILE and KRISIUN.1. White LightAfter playing in various teenage groups, Gene Clark was offered a place in the sprawling New Christy Minstrels in late 1963. He stayed long enough to contribute to two albums, Merry Christmas and Land Of Giants, before returning to Los Angeles, where he teamed up with Jim (Roger) McGuinn and David Crosby in the Jet Set. This fledgling trio evolved into the Byrds. At that point Clark was the leading songwriter in the group and contributed significantly to their first two albums.
As founding member of folk-rock pioneers the Byrds, Gene Clark had emerged as a uniquely gifted singer/songwriter and master of the minor key melancholy ballad. His departure from the group in 1966 was met with critical anticipation and commercial indifference. Tiring of the Hollywood fast lane by 1969, Gene and new wife Carlie moved up to Mendocino on the Northern California coast where the tranquility, pastoral beauty and laid back lifestyle of the coastal community appealed to his country boy roots. It inspired a body of songs unlike anything Gene had composed before. Their stark simplicity and stripped down arrangements, acoustic guitar, harmonica and voice, evidence a deeper insight into life and an overall optimism rarely found in his previous body of work.
The resulting album, White Light, produced by renown guitarist Jesse Ed Davis, remains one of Gene's most accessible and much-loved recordings among fans and critics, topping several domestic Best Album of the Year lists and being voted Album of the Year by rock critics in the Netherlands. Songs like For A Spanish Guitar, With Tomorrow and Where My Love Lies Asleep are delicately evocative while the title song draws on Gene's appreciation for country music. One In A Hundred harkens back to his finest Byrds compositions.
Buoyed by his new surroundings, friendships, marriage, a feeling of contentment in his rural retreat and the imminent birth of his first child, White Light reveals singer/songwriter Gene Clark at the top of his game. Rolling Stone declared the folk-based album a fresh and innovative look at what came before in a new framework. One of the most interesting and exciting records of 1971. Drogas LightA decade after Lupe Fiasco exploded onto the hip-hop scene with his seminal 2006 debut Food & Liquor, the Chicago native is closing the chapter on his career with his most visualized projects yet. The independent rapper, who parted ways with his former label Atlantic Records following the release of 2015's Tetsuo & Youth, hits his creative peak with a trilogy of albums-Drogas Light, Drogas and Skulls-the final curtain call on one of the most gifted lyricists and visionaries to grace the mic.
If anything, Drogas Light, the first delivery to fans arriving in early 2017 via 1st & 15th/Thirty Tigers, is a testament to Fiasco's artistic growth throughout the years. The 14-track LP is free of restraint, and daring by his standards: the sonic and storytelling palettes are vast and diverse, more so than ever before, traipsing genre and style with ease and touting songs to soundtrack everything from a night at the club to a quiet listen on headphones. Where Tetsuo & Youth leaned into more experimental pastures, Drogas Light is the embodiment of a musician whose foray beyond the boundaries of hip-hop feels increasingly natural, a glimpse into the genius that will be Fiasco's legacy as he inevitably walks away from the spotlight.
From the start of Drogas Light, Fiasco lays his rhyming skills bare, attacking a haunted beat accented by a screwed vocal sample on opener "Dopamine" that self-reflectively emphasizes the magnetism of the album ("Over-d off of this, but don't fall asleep 'til the dopamine hit!" he chants). The set is dotted with several trap-inflected songs-"NGL" featuring Ty Dolla $ign is a turn-up anthem that entertains the reasons why success comes slow to many, while the STREETRUNNER-produced lead single "Made in the USA" catalogues the various home-grown, illicit products manufactured in the country.
Fiasco has often been pegged as a socially conscious emcee, likened to peers including Common and Nas, and he lives up to the reputation on "City of the Year," where he explores the economic disparity of Chi-town. He flexes his storytelling muscle on the hypnotic, spinning "Jump," on which he unfolds the tale of going from a "trapper to a rapper" by supplying a female adversary with a career boost. But it's when the album hits the relax button that Drogas Light coasts on cushy grooves: "Kill," also featuring Ty Dolla $ign, is an after-hours ode to women who work at gentleman's clubs, and the vamping closer "More Than My Heart" is an emotionally charged hat-tip to all the mothers who would sacrifice anything for their children.
While Drogas Light signifies the beginning of the end for Fiasco, it represents how far he's come since he first entered the game and merely accents the intellectual breadth of the discography he'll leave behind. At the onset of career, rappers including Jay Z and Kanye West regarded him as the future of hip-hop, with the latter tapping him for a standout guest verse on "Touch the Sky" after Fiasco remixed West's hit "Diamonds from Sierra Leone." His debut album Food & Liquor earned him three Grammy nominations and a win for the Jill Scott-assisted "Daydreamin'," which netted the trophy for Best Urban/Alternative Performance in 2008.
In the years since, he evolved from the backpack rap of his debut with a string of classics including 2007's Lupe Fiasco's The Cool and 2011's Lasers, a prelude to the following year's Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1. While Drogas Light is just a taste of what he has to offer in the new year, it's yet another earmark on a track record of an artist who continually comes into new bloom.1. Dopamine Lit (Intro)

Wasting LightFoo Fighters anxiously anticipated seventh album, Wasting Light, produced by Butch Vig and mixed by Alan Moulder, was recorded entirely on analog tape in the garage of Dave Grohls home in Californias San Fernando Valley. The new record marks the Foo Fighters first full length effort with legendary producer Butch Vig, who previously produced new tracks Wheels and Word Forward on 2009s Greatest Hits and with whom Dave Grohl (of course) first worked on Nirvanas classic Nevermind.
Nirvana co-founder Krist Novoselic also makes a cameo, contributing bass and accordion to I Should Have Known, while former Nirvana touring guitarist and longtime extended FF family member Pat Smear now joins the permanent FF core of Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel and Chris Shiflett.
The album received its first public airing at a surprise gig Friday, January 28th at the minuscule Velvet Jones club in Santa Barbara, where the band ripped through the entire record from start to finish, and followed up with a crushing live collection of greatest hits and rarely played deep cuts including Wattershed from the bands self-titled 1995 debut.

In Light is the debut album from the Lafayette, Louisiana-based five-piece Givers. Engineer Ben Allen (Cee-Lo, Animal Collective, M.I.A., Matt & Kim) helped to provide sounds here that expand upon the bands greatest assets, their innate knack for the catchiest of melodies, and the ever-evolving rhythms and sense of adventure that gave them their experimental edge.
Opener and first single Up Up Up is nothing short of anthemic, a rousing calling card for the bands elated sound. Ripe is a kaleidoscope of sultry Afro-pop, while Meantime showcases the bands instrumental and thematic investment in fluidity, capping off with a no-holds-barred group sing-along. Words fuses fist-pumping, heavy percussion with staccato vocal chants, and In My Eyes is lifted into the night sky by fluttering harmonies, steel drum chimes, swirling guitar solos and cricket hums. Atlantic laces Lamsons textured drawl with Caribbean accents, ukulele plucks and keyboard sparkles.

Light GrenadesAvailable for the first time on vinyl! Double gatefold sets presented on 180-gram audiophile vinyl.
On their fourth album, A Crow Left of the Murder, Incubus got heavier, both musically and lyrically, which might have developed their music but it shrank their audience. It's hard not to see their 2006 follow-up, Light Grenades, as a reaction to this situation -- not that they shrink away from the progression of Crow, but they polish and streamline their innovations from that album, resulting in a record that's sharper, cleaner, and more immediate in every respect. This naturally means that Incubus doesn't sound as heavy as they did earlier in their career, but they're still pretty somber here; even when the rhythms crash and the guitars wail, this is serious music, but they have a lighter touch here than they did on Crow. They also have a greater mastery of mood, as well as a greater musical variety than they displayed on the outset of their career. Often, they use trippy, vaguely psychedelic soundscapes to set a tone that they later blast apart with tightly focused blasts of fury, such as the skittering Anna Molly or the intense two-minute ballast of the title track -- or even how the acoustic introspection of Earth to Bella is ripped apart by shards of noise, not unlike Radiohead's Creep. Radiohead comes to mind a few times on Light Grenades, largely in how Incubus uses echoed guitars on their expansive mood pieces, but more often they sound like a leaner, hungrier latter-day Pearl Jam in their sense of purpose and dedication to serious rock. Perhaps that's why Diamonds and Coal stands out so strongly in the latter half of the record: it's a tightly constructed pop song, their catchiest ever, that's unlike anything else on the record in its hookiness, which makes it all the more impressive. And instead of suggesting that the rest of the record is lacking in hooks, it actually points out how Incubus has grown: that they not only feel comfortable releasing a piece of alt-pop as catchy as this, but they don't emphasize it, they merely present it as another dimension to their sound, just like how the delicate acoustic-driven Paper Shoes also sounds unlike the rest of the album yet still fits comfortably into the record's tapestry. These moments of lightness illustrate the confidence Incubus now has and their increasing musical dexterity too. On Light Grenades, they are a tightly focused, purposeful band, shifting moods and textures at the drop of a dime, proving that they have become a rare thing: a modern heavy rock band that actually grows and improves with each album.

Slant Of LightIn most cases intimate musical connections take years to foster, with much time spent learning the others' unique melodic and harmonic languages before true symbiosis can occur. For harpist Mary Lattimore and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Zeigler that type of deep understanding and effortless communication was almost instantaneous. On their first record as a duo, Slant of Light, Lattimore and Zeigler emerge completely synergetic, offering up stunning improvisations that are as advanced melodically as they are texturally. The four pieces on Slant of Light are seductive and picturesque, with Lattimore's elaborate melodies blossoming out of Zeigler's tonal beds of synthesizer and guitar. Equally inviting and challenging, Slant of Light is an impressionistic work that draws on musical histories ancient and contemporary, existing outside current trends in music as a whole. Need Your LightNeed Your Light, the fourth full-length album from Syracuses Ra Ra Riot, is the sound of a bands reinvigoration. Correspondingly, the album sees the band getting back to their house party roots without abandoning the more heady soundscapes they explored with 2013s Beta Love.
The band pulled in producer Dennis Herring (Modest Mouse, Elvis Costello) in order to start fleshing out ideas. Shortly afterward a writing trip to Milwaukee, the band soon found themselves crafting Need Your Light with a host of previous collaborators including Ryan Hadlock (who produced 2008s The Rhumb Line) and Andrew Maury (who is a longtime friend, collaborator and live sound engineer also co-produced 2010s The Orchard). Life has a way of bringing things full circle and we are beyond stoked to be releasing our new record as part of the Fat Wreck Chords family. You never know what people are going to think when you release new music. All you can do is what comes from your heart and we feel like we have accomplished what we set out to do with these new songs. Hopefully our fans will feel the same passion for this album as we do. Sweet Heart Sweet LightFor an artist as consistent as Spiritualized's Jason Spaceman, whose 7th studio album Sweet Heart Sweet Light will see its release on Fat Possum, it's easy to assume that there's a certain effortlessness to the creative process. In fact, the three years since the release of 2008's acclaimed Songs in A&E were some of the roughest imaginable for Jason.
After a near death from double pneumonia in 2005 it was a slow road to recovery, a process he touched upon on with great grace on the last album. His return to full health saw him release Songs in A&E and mount critically lauded performances of his 1997 game-changer Ladies And Gentlemen....We Are Floating In Space on both sides of the Atlantic.
However, shortly after recording Sweet Heart Sweet Light in far flung locales such as Los Angeles, Reykavik and Wales, Jason found himself weakened by a degenerative liver disease and was subjected to six months of chemo treatment, a procedure that left him virtually housebound while he mixed the album.
In a classic case of triumph over tribulation, the resulting album is Spiritualized at their most vibrant; full voiced and utterly sublime. In Jason Spaceman's orbit rock and roll is the salve and listeners will hear all of the epic grandiosity and brain worming melodies for which they're renowned, as well as the gorgeous gospel delium that makes hearing a new Spiritualized album an exhilarating and emotional experience.
"Hey Jane," an energetic 8+ minutes of rousing organ, glittering guitar fuzz and swirling choirs, is first the single and indication that new album Sweet Heart Sweet Light is another epic body of work from the anthemic master. It's been three years in the making for renowned perfectionist Jason Spaceman and the resulting music captured in this first single, showcases them at their most vibrant and sublime.
The album also features a first for Spiritualized: Jason is joined by his 11 year old daughter Poppy Spaceman on the starkly beautiful So Long You Pretty Thing for which she also has a writing credit for the opening couplet. Elsewhere on the album is I Am What I Am which was co-written by Jason and Mac Rebennack aka Dr. John.1. Huh? (Intro)

Light You UpGrammy nominated singer/songwriter Shawn Mullins returns with his eleventh studio release, Light You Up. Produced by Mullins and drummer Gerry Hansen, the album marks a newfound level of musical and lyrical expression for the veteran artist.
Shawn Mullins has undergone a series of transformative experiences leading to this captivating new song cycle. His experiences included delving into the collaborative creative process by intensive co-writing, and in one instance putting him atop of the country charts via a key contribution to the Zac Brown Bands Toes, marking his fourth #1 single (and first purely as a co-writer), following 1999s Lullaby and the 2006 Triple A/Americana chart-topper Beautiful Wreck. Further co-writing yielded nine of the 11 songs on Light You Up, which Mullins believes represents the strongest, most expressive writing of his distinguished career.1. California

The Smallest LightDaisyhead is made up of Zach Chiarizzio (bass/vocals), Michael Roe (vocals/guitar), Curtis DuRard (guitar) and Chad Burroughs (drums). The band's sound takes listeners back to the heyday of the 90's post-hardcore/alternative rock and early 2000's era of Revelation Records while injecting their own unique edge and style. In 2013, they released their debut EP, I Couldn't Face You, which helped established the band as one of their scene's most promising newcomers.
In the fall of 2013, Daisyhead joined No Sleep Records and released a split EP with Have Mercy early the following year. After touring in support of the release the band entered the studio in the fall of 2014 to record their debut full-length record, The Smallest Light.
The Smallest Light is a record with thoughts shared by each member of the band, which makes it so much more special to me, says Roe. We wanted to be sure our first LP was one we were all really proud of, and that's exactly what it is. It's a pleasure to be releasing a record alongside some of my personal all time favorite records. I can tell that this record would not nearly be the same if it wasn't this exact lineup. Everyone equally shared the responsibility of making it what it is, and that becomes apparent when you learn more about the meaning behind the songs.
After several years of touring and EP releases, Daisyhead has arrived with the debut fans have been waiting for. From the infectious and anthemic jams of "Take" to the massive sing-along hooks in tracks like "Lacking Basis" and "I Didn't Deserve This," The Smallest Light proves even further that Daisyhead will be a staple in the scene for years to come.1. Grammy Award winner Ray LaMontagne is set to release his seventh studio album, Part Of The Light via RCA Records. The album was written and produced by Ray LaMontagne and will feature the first single, "Such A Simple Thing."
Ray LaMontagne has released 6 studio albums, 5 of which have reached Top 10 on Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart and Billboard's Digital Albums chart. Additionally, his 2010 album God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise won the Grammy for Best Folk Album and was nominated in the coveted Song of The Year category for "Beg Steal or Borrow."
Each release from his catalog over the last 13 years carries its own character and feel. Having worked with producers Ethan Johns, Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys and Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Ray's vast sonic catalogue has been called everything from "a perfect throwback to the lost art of the album-length format," from Entertainment Weekly to "epic and magical," from Rolling Stone and "gorgeous and ambitious," from Esquire. NPR's All Things Considered said that Ray throughout the course of his career "has continued to push himself in different directions," while People called Ray a "marvel of nature."1. To the Sea

REDI-SUN-5332xThe Five Americans
I See The LightSourced from the Original Mono Master Tapes for the First Time!
The versatile Five Americans were so tapped into the heroic pop scene of 1965-66, they were able to pen brilliant original material that could, at times, sound something like the raw garage howl of the Rolling Stones, the jangle of the Byrds, the psychedelic mystery of Jefferson Airplane or the PhD folk-rock of Simon & Garfunkel.
Best of all, lead guitarist Mike Rabon, keyboardist John Durrill, rhythm guitarist Norman Ezell, bassist Jim Grant and drummer Jimmy Wright, put their own distinct stamp on a string of smashes that began with the mighty "I See the Light" in early 1966.
Hailing from Oklahoma, this hungry quintet hit the jackpot when they moved en masse to Dallas and hooked up with the red-hot Abnak label, run by John Abnor, Sr. Their debut longplayer, I See the Light, was a perfect snapshot of what made 1966 a watershed year for rock. The song of the same name opens with what may be the most famous held organ note in rock history, then turns to a stomping bass line that would have been the envy of Slade's Doc Marten army six years later.
"Goodbye" is a perfect extension of the Slick-Balin vocal tandem about to catch fire in San Francisco. "I Know They Lie" has that Byrds/Brummels Rickenbacker jangle down pat. "Don't Blame Me" and "It's a Crying Shame," a pair of snarling garage-rock nuggets, go directly for the jugular with results every bit as lethal as anything ever cut in the Lone Star state.
This 180g vinyl-only release is impeccably sourced from the original mono master tapes, the first time the album has been re-released in ultra-honest, bone-crunching mono!1. I See the Light
