Folk SingerRanked 280/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Cut at 45 RPM For The First Time Ever!
From the original 1964 Chess analog masters! Pressed at Quality Record Pressings!
Mastered by Bernie Grundman.
New Gatefold jacket, with extra photos!
Folk Singer has been an audiophile staple for years. It always gets a bunch of play at hi-fi shows. It's a no-doubter demonstration disc. But never before has it sounded like this! Never has it been cut at 45 RPM!
There are a handful of landmark albums in any genre. In the blues, one of them is Muddy Waters' Folk Singer. Originally released in 1964, Folk Singer was the only acoustic album Waters ever recorded, thus becoming the first and perhaps best blues concept album ever. Muddy of course started out playing acoustic blues in the Delta, and he's clearly very comfortable in this return to his roots, which was designed to appeal to the mid-1960s surge of interest in folk music.
Muddy's supporting cast includes a very young Buddy Guy on guitar, Willie Dixon at the upright bass and Clifton James on drums.
This recording has enormous presence with ample room for Muddy's booming voice to resonate.

Grammy Award 2004 Winner In The Category 'Best Traditional Blues Album'
The album is all acoustic and dedicated to John Lee Hooker with the line, In Memory of John Lee Hooker. You are missed.
Not known for his acoustic work, Buddy Guy unplugs for a rare album-length excursion into folk blues. The guitarist gets down and dirty with 12 tracks that sound like they were recorded after hours in his living room or on his back porch.
Guy's stinging leads are still evident as is his emotive voice, but both are less flamboyant in the unplugged setting. Accompanied by spare stand-up bass and brushed drums, Guy sounds nearly possessed on covers from Skip James (Hard Time Killing Floor), Johnny Shines (Moanin' and Groanin'), Son House (Louise McGhee), and John Lee Hooker (Sally Mae) among others. It's a low-key, low-down affair made for late nights, rainy days, and the saddest of moods.
Guy is just as convincing here--arguably more so--as on his barnstorming electric albums, making Blues Singer one of the bravest and most poignant albums in his catalogue.
The album earned Guy the 2004 Grammy Award for 'Best Traditional Blues Album'.LP 1

All My Favorite Singers Are Willie NelsonAstral Swan's All My Favorite Singers Are Willie Nelson is a collection of stark psychedelic folk from the unfiltered neuroses of Calgary's Matthew Swann. Songs steeped in universal anguish, marveling at the world's knack for enterprise and cannibalism, come across instead as subtle, reassuring lullabies. These are quiet, relatable anthems for the outsider set, balancing gentle melodies on Swann's self-obsession with moral fallibility. On first single "Beginning Of The End", Swann delves into the album's various drug states in his sweetly apprehensive tone, a lowly guitar dancing loosely with intoxicated children, asking: "Who told the kids in the yard that they're mostly dust? Now they just stay drunk. Keep getting more fucked up".
Equally inspired by serene 60's folk, 80's no-wave alienation, and the insouciance of 90's grunge, Astral Swans' music is spacious yet constrained, hauntingly personal and oddly sincere. The skeletal "Let Their Faces All Blur Out" races softly with the punk rock abandon of early Sonic Youth and Eric's Trip; "What Calms You Down, Freaks Me Out" bears the ominous pleasance of Syd Barrett, Arthur Russell, Nick Drake, and fellow Calgarian Chad VanGaalen. More structured than Swann's Extra Happy Ghost!!! project (produced by VanGaalen), this album's experimental spirit denies the haphazard "singer-songwriter" label that some might attach to Astral Swans.
Set for release on Dan Mangan's Madic Records, these twelve songs lavish in Swann's startlingly sardonic reflections, in his own words, "confronting our strange ways of experiencing personhood, in the moral gorge between ideals and inadequacies". Tracked live in Swann's living room, and later embellished in an old Calgary warehouse with local experimental/improv mainstay Brad Hawkins (Ghostkeeper), All My Favorite Singers Are Willie Nelson is flawed if not for its air of accidental perfection, normalizing existential struggle with rhythm and harmony, a natural marriage of the sweet to the acrid.1. Amen & GoodbyeAmen & Goodbye is the fourth studio album from the Brooklyn-based band, Yeasayer.
To visually interpret the album, Yeasayer collaborated with renowned sculptor David Altmejd (whose artwork is a major influence on the band) to create the gatefold artwork. The teasers released prior to the album announcement contained some of the sculptures Altmejd created while listening to the bands new album. This was a dream come true for the band and the full artwork is utterly spectacular.
Amen & Goodbye is the follow up to 2012's Fragrant World. Moving away from a digital-heavy approach, Yeasayer recorded Amen & Goodbye to tape at Outlier Inn Studio in upstate New York, then brought on board Joey Waronker (drummer - Atoms For Peace / Beck) to deconstruct everything to make the final document.
Yeasayer offered a peek into the world of Amen & Goodbye with 'I Am Chemistry', the first track to be heard from their highly anticipated forthcoming album. Featuring guest vocals from the legendary folk singer Suzzy Roche of The Roches, 'I Am Chemistry' is a linear psychedelic journey proving Yeasayer still has the knack for writing very odd pop songs.

Freedom Highway Complete: Recorded Live at Chicago's New Nazareth
Church is a newly remixed, remastered and expanded edition of the live
concert masterpiece recorded by the Staple Singers in April 1965 in support
and celebration of that year's historic civil rights marches from Montgomery
to Selma, Alabama. In this stirring collection you will find the fervent
emotions and depth of feeling that only the most inspired gospel, folk and
handclapping music can provide.
First released on Epic Records as an LP in 1965 the original Freedom
Highway album was constrained by the time limits of 12" vinyl and the full
service was edited down to only include key performance tracks. Freedom
Highway Complete: Recorded Live at Chicago's New Nazareth Church
is newly expanded to include 30+ additional minutes of the original
performance and church service.
The exultant title song, "Freedom Highway", was written in March, 1965, at
the time Rev. Martin Luther King led the momentous freedom march from
Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. "When the Saints Go Marching In," "He's
All Right" and "We Shall Overcome" are other songs of a jubilant nature. In

Telling The TruthOver the course of eight years, The Numero Group has journeyed to scads of tiny island nations in search of rare and previously unknown recordings. This time we kept it a little closer to home, unearthing a soul-folk curiosity on the one-stop light cay of Nantucket. By no means a thriving musical community in the 70s or otherwise, the limerick-inducing isle played home to Greenwich Village folk singer Willie Wright for a few years, producing his second and final album in the process.
Born of Harlem doo-wop roots and refined by Boston's counterculture scene, Wright arrived in Nantucket in 1976 well worn by two decades of street corner and club performing, eager to make the easy money only a private yacht clientele could guarantee. Trapped on the island over winter, a set of original songs poured into his cover-heavy set. Tales of Wright's native roots, straight life, his abandoned four children, and the many women he had known flooded his loose leaf notebook before finally being set to tape in New York the following spring.
Tracked with George Buzzy Bragg and Herry Jensen (of Skull Snaps and Jimmy Castor Bunch fame, respectively) in one day with minimal overdubs, Telling The Truth was, and would remain, Willie Wright's brightest and most inspired moment. Sold from the trunk of a car and from a handful of resort stages, the humble album disappeared into the collections and garages of Nantucket tourists, taking what was left of a near-30-year career along with it.
Available for the first time since 1977, this expanded edition of Telling The Truth gathers Wright's lone 45 and only original composition from his first LP to tell the definitive Willie Wright story. Saint BartlettSaint Bartlett opens up with a grandiosity yet unheard on a Damien Jurado album. The album strips away the many layers of paint from the house down the street we know Jurado has occupied for the last decade. The new coat is exhilarating. It makes the whole neighborhood shine. It's a modest grandiosity; still homegrown. The mellotron swells, heavenly handclaps ring in stereo and big drums create a sky for the songs to fly in. And the words. Words spring forth from within the volcano of Jurado, full of hope. There's so much hope, in fact, that album opener Cloudy Shoes turns into a call-and-response with himself, as though it were a dialogue between two halves of himself.
Richard Swift's Spector-esque production is spot-on. He ferries Jurado across theriver, where the metamorphosis occurs. He then ferries him back, and it is through Swift's lens that we see Jurado not as a folk singer, but as a mystic somewhere between Van Morrison, Scott Walker and Wayne Coyne. Saint Bartlett was made entirely at Swift's National Freedom studio in Oregon, in just under a week with only Jurado and Swift as the performers.1. Cloudy Shoes

Tell 'Em I'm Gone
First Album In Five Years From The 2014 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Inductee
10 Brand-New Recordings, Including 5 New Compositions By Yusuf
Features Collaborations With Rick Rubin, Richard Thompson, Charlie Musselwhite, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Tinariwen, And Matt Sweeney
Tell 'Em I'm Gone is the first new Yusuf album since 2009's
acclaimed Roadsinger. Recorded all over the world,
including Los Angeles, Dubai, Brussels, and London, the
album features 10 brand-new studio recordings, including five
originals and five carefully-chosen cover songs. Tell 'Em I'm
Gone features musical contributions from Richard Thompson,
blues harmonica legend Charlie Musselwhite, singer-songwriter
Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Tuareg group Tinariwen, and guitarist
Matt Sweeney, as well as production from Rick Rubin.
Each track on Tell 'Em I'm Gone is threaded together by the
themes of freedom and peace that have prevailed through more
than four decades of Yusuf's musical career. On this album,
Yusuf returns to the roots of his musical inspiration: American
blues and R&B, using these genres to explore the universality
of the desire for freedom with songs that recall the spirit of his
earliest days as a nascent singer-songwriter in London.
"What's powerful and profound, to me, is the overall message
which emerged, lyrically," Yusuf says of the new album.
"It suddenly stared me in the face: the struggle for Freedom!
My God, isn't that what most human beings dream of?
"I hope this record will help revive the spirit of Freedom
and re-kindle some of the excitement of those amazing days,
when every musical door seemed to point us a way out of our
imprisonment," Yusuf says.
Stunning originals like "I Was Raised In Babylon" and "Cat And
The Dog Trap" plus covers of blues-pop standards ("Big Boss
Man," "You Are My Sunshine") and a moving version of Edgar
Winter's "Dying To Live" find Yusuf as strong of voice and as
engaging a performer as ever before.
Having first found fame as a teenage folk singer in 1960s
England, Cat Stevens gained worldwide acclaim for his
intimate and affecting works in the 1970s. His compositions
"Wild World," "Peace Train," "Father and Son" and "Morning
Has Broken" remain staples of the folk genre. Following a
conversion to the Islamic faith in 1978, Stevens retired from
the music business to pursue important causes in the
Muslim community; 2006 saw Yusuf's celebrated return to pop
music with the album An Other Cup.1. I Was Raised In Babylon (Yusuf)

Live Lansing MichiganPhil Ochs (1940-1976) was an American folk and protest singer. After making his start in Columbus Ohio, Phil moved to New York in 1962, and soon became one of the top performers of the Greenwich Village folk music scene.
Phil wore his politics on his sleeve. One of his early combos was called The Socialist Singers, and because he was so outspoken he often ran into roadblocks in regards to finding a mainstream audience.
Throughout the early 70's Phil traveled the country and played many gigs. He was not actively recording. Live Again 1973 presents Phil at the Stables in East Lansing Michigan running through a 70+ minute selection of his most loved songs.LP 1
