    Coming Forth By Day

Coming Forth By Day is described as Cassandra Wilson's moody, soulful showcase for contemporary yet timeless interpretations of standards associated with her musical inspiration, according to information from Legacy Recordings.

"It's an absolute treat to work with Cassandra in the realization of this unexpected and sublimely beautiful music.

Coming Forth By Day was produced by Nick Launay, known as Nick Cave's producer for the last decade among many other adventurous credits. With this fourth album for the label, simply and aptly titled Guitar & Voice, Eric Chenaux has made what in a literal sense can be called his first solo album, in that the recording features only his playing and singing; no guest or supporting musicians, minimal overdubs, and a rigorous structure that alternates back and forth between longform, mostly vocal-based tunes and shorter, cacophonously harmonious bowed-guitar instrumentals.

    Night Beat

Clearly Sam Cooke's most intimate, most soulful and ultimately most real recording. This one has the feel of a private performance captured after hours when the audience had gone home and the singer was singing purely for the love of his songs. The performance put forth is simply straight from Cooke's soul. His selection of songs include spiritual, bluesy ballads and gospel classics. Cooke owns these songs, making each interpretation all his own. This is warm music that's easy to connect with. Mastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound from the original three-track masters.

    TH1RT3EN

TH1RT3EN has several levels of meaning, which Dave Mustaine, who first picked up an axe at the age of 13, reveals. He says, I was born on September 13th; this is my thirteenth record. It just seemed like the right thing to call it 'TH1RT3EN'. Mustaine is incredibly proud of the music put forth on the new recording, saying, This record is the culmination of my work over the 13 records I recorded. There are moments on 'TH1RT3EN' that capture my every emotion, and other moments where I am releasing feelings I never knew existed! The album was recorded at Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California with producer Johnny K.

Backed alternately by bassists Percy Heath and Gary Mapp and drummers Art Blakey and Max Roach, Monk pours forth his idiosyncratic virtuosity in this

disharmonic riffs within a melodic and very memorable structure. Monk's explorations conjure up images of a mathematician working out geometric

Filosofem (somber) is the fifth album from Varg Vikernes, recorded right before he was imprisoned for the murder of Mayhem's guitarist/leader Euronymous. The album expands on the synth/keyboard ideas put forth on Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, culminating in in the melancholy ode Dunkelheit, which was sort of a breakthrough song for this one-man band. Whereas the earlier Burzum albums still tended to reference traditional black metal, by the time of this recording Varg was off on a tangent by himself, and it shows in the chilling, otherworldly and occult melodies on display here. This also marks what was probably the true beginning of his obsession with minimalistic composing. Jesus' Tod, is an absolutely mesmerizing piece that centers around a single series of raw guitar riffs repeated until you are deeply lost inside the echoing hallways of this artist's iconoclastic genius for dark music. Many consider this recording to be his finest hour.

    More Parts Per Million

The Thermals celebrate their 10-year anniversary by reissuing their three Sub Pop albums on vinyl. More Parts Per Million is the band's debut album, originally released by Sub Pop on March 4th, 2003. The Thermals were created in 2002 by singer Hutch Harris in his Portland-area kitchen. By that summer, they was a rock band in the flesh, with Kathy Foster on bass, Jordan Hudson on Drums and Kind of Like Spitting's Ben Barnett on the guitar. The Thermals play with a joyous frenzy not unlike the idiosyncratic guitar driven indie-punk of the Wedding Present, with lyrics spewed forth from the same oblique etherland as Guided By Voices. More Parts Per Million has sold over 12,000 copies, and the vinyl has been out of print for years. Chris Walla of Death Cab For Cutie mixed the album at The Hall of Justice studio in Seattle, WA.

Tunnel Blanket is the second long-player from the Texas four-piece This Will Destroy You and follow-up to the band's well-received eponymous 2008 debut. Tunnel Blanket delivers the epic-in-scope soundscapes that followers of its makers previous recordings are accustomed to, but presents them in new lights, where once the sun shone down bright upon immediate tropes and traits, now their work is better suited to distant starlight, casting changeable shadows across vistas of inspired, ambitious ampli cation. This is not an album to pick through in search of bold hooks and instant melodies. It is an ever-shifting, always moving work, which seems to evolve before the listener, spidery guitar lines feeling their way forth like vines scrambling up trunks in time-lapse photography.

Limited edition vinyl! In 1972 as the lineup of Funkadelic that had made the first three albums collapsed in on themselves, some members shuttled back and forth between Detroit and Toronto and kept recording. One of the projects that was embarked upon was an LP by a group called U.S. (United Soul), a single Baby I Owe You Something Good b/w I Miss My Baby appeared that year credited to U.S. music with Funkadelic. The original album of five tracks includes some prime era Funkadelic grooves including the outrageous Rat Kiss The Cat On The Navel and Be What You Is which are both uptempo psychedelic funk, as well as the wonderful gospel-imbued vocals of Gary Shider on the opener This Broken Heart. God's Hooks

Ottawa, Ontario's BIIPIIGWAN may be one of the greatest bands you've never heard. There's really no other way to describe the music set forth on the band's first full-length, "God's Hooks," (recorded and produced by Fuck the Facts' Topon Das). A testament to killer songwriting, howled through a crashing pace of heinous sludge-hardcore and post-metal, the scope and execution of "God's Hooks," is on par with the emotional and musical epicness practiced by Unsane, Yob, Neurosis and Rwake.

Seven songs of angry doom, stripped down and driving, headed towards a raging crescendo of filth, truth and riffs handed down from a mountain of death. Hypnotic with glances of technical jams, BIIPIGWAN flow all up into your ears, like electric eels on a sacrilegious mission to overload the controls of the heart of the sun, in hopes the fiery mother of our universe, the sleeping hell giant, comes smashing down endlessly upon us until all time and space are rendered super heavy and loud.

Reissued for the First Time Since 1973!

Herbie Hancock is one of the most prolific jazz pianists of the 20th century. A child prodigy, he played with the greats such as Donald Byrd and Miles Davis. He was one of the first to embrace and master the electric piano, but he always stayed true to the acoustic sound. In fact, he always bounced back and forth between his electronic and acoustic sound, touching upon almost every development in R&B, Funk and Jazz while retaining an original and distinctive voice.

Sextant from 1973 was recorded just before Head Hunters, and can be seen in the same vein, but it's more than just an introduction to a masterpiece. It features a kind of post-modal, free impressionism while gracing the edges of funk. Three long instrumental tracks explore how far minimalism in jazz can go.

    Wishbone

Wishbone is the sophomore album from the British-born artist who calls New York City home. Recorded in Los Angeles with producer Ted Hutt (Gaslight Anthem, Lucero, Old Crow Medicine Show), the well crafted songs on Wishbone live up to the expectations put upon a young man the Wall Street Journal touted as a "promising talent" with "much more to say," after the release of his Liam Watson-produced debut album, A Winter Tale.

On Wishbone Long taps into a broader pallete of emotions than he has on past releases, eschewing melancholy and eloquently channeling anger and frustration into gritty, hard driving guitar parts (the majority of which are played by Long) that compliment his rough-hewn vocals. Steel guitar provides an apt counter balance, adding a hint of twang and drawn out expanse to the urgency put forth in the lyrics. Throughout the album Long displays his deft control of melody and tone, well practiced over many years of prolific songwriting.

    Day Of The Dog

" his songs come off as intelligent, angry, funny and ferocious. Furman sings every song like it's going to be his last."

    - American Songwriter Magazine

Ezra Furman has always positioned himself as a singer-songwriter with or without the Harpoons. His acoustic based music would sometimes rock or burst forth with technicolor pop flourishes. On 2012's The Year of No Returning the production was especially
sophisticated but now like Dylan in '65 he is ready to harness the electricity and delve a little deeper into life as a rock and roller with punk panache.

On Day of the Dog Ezra re-invents himself as an angry young man ready to throw himself on the pyre for the redemption that will follow. With a tight rockin' combo he re-works '50s grooves through primal-Lennon outbursts, glam hissing, right up and full circle into Pixies-style/Buddy Holly rave-ups. It's an instant classic that could have fit on Stiff between Costello's debut and the Damned.

    Nero In Metastasi

Two and-a-half decades after their conception, CRIPPLE BASTARDS reign as Italy's most hostile and aggressive musical unit in existence, and are ready to prove it all over again with their newly completed debut LP for Relapse, the monstrous Nero In Metastasi. Packing some of their most dense and metallic destruction into eighteen new tracks harnessed under the thirty-seven minute mark, the album was recorded at the infamous Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden with producer Fredrik Nordström (Arch Enemy, At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity). While retaining the riotous old-school hatecore attributes they've carried forth since formation, yet elevating their delivery to put them on par with the most cutting-edge bands in the grindcore genre, Nero In Metastasi is the next major movement in CRIPPLE BASTARDS' steadfast campaign of extreme auditory revolution.

    Odulek

'Odludek', the debut solo album from Doves' Jimi Goodwin, is released on PIAS/Heavenly Recordings in 2014.

This is the first new music release from Jimi since Doves's Kingdom Of Rust in 2009.

    Jimi on Odludek:

"I wanted to make this mad mixtape the kind you'd pass back and forth with your mates; eclectic as fuck. That's the way we've all discovered music over the years isn't it? We join our own dots to make it all make sense. As I got into making the record, it felt like I was proving something to myself, making a point that I could do all this on my own. You know - I can play bass, I can play guitar, I can orchestrate. As the methods changed, the original concept stayed intact. It's me, powering through ideas, kapow kapow, no pause for breath. It's not trying to be wilfully eclectic; it's just a reflection of how I schizophrenically devour music."

    Walks For Motorists

White Hills are proponents of psychedelia as transformation. The music made by Dave W. and Ego Sensation is risky and cutting edge, rooted in dystopian futurism and hyperconscious of society's constant desire for a new and better drug. That progressive aesthetic is at the heart of White Hills' newest album Walks For Motorists, a radically stripped-down record that emphasizes rhythm and groove. The album bursts forth with a new kind of intensity, one born out of laser-focused precision and detail-oriented songwriting. Possibly surprising to fans familiar with the Hawkwindian guitar squall of earlier albums, the songs on Walks For Motorists began as a keyboard melody or bass line, and several songs on the album don't even feature guitar at all. This is propulsive, open music, surreal to its core but made to inspire people to get out of their seats and move.
