Neil's 1966 debut contains some of his best known (and most covered) songs including Dolphins, That's The Bag I'm In, and the future theme song to the 1969 blockbuster film Midnight Cowboy (and Harry Nilsson hit) Everybody's Talkin'. Happy Sad (Colored Vinyl)

    Red Colored Vinyl

One of the best albums of the late 60s and Tim Buckley's most underrated album, Happy Sad was a change-up pitch for the eclectic L.A. singer/songwriter. Sounding like a bit like Fred Neil's Capitol-era albums, Buckley and his small, acoustic-based ensemble create beautiful, jazz tinged folk-rock. On red vinyl.

    Bleeker & MacDougal

With a deeply resonant voice that exuded a hundred things at once-pain, joy, weariness and decades of experience -Fred Neil created a small body of work that covered the world like paint. No one from the vibrant early '60s Greenwich Village folk scene had more staying power than this legendary recluse. Neil's 1964 debut, Bleecker And MacDougal, captures the great man at the apex of his talents. Exact repro on 180 gram vinyl, from the original analog masters!

    Challengers

THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS return with their fourth
album and their first recorded outside of bassist John
Collins's basement studio. Airier, more spacious and
more relaxed than its jackhammer predecessors,
'Challengers' is the sound of songwriters Carl Newman
and Dan BÉjar stretching out. In a recent Pitchfork interview, Newman rejected the power-pop label and suggested power-folk instead, and several songs on the
new album live up to it, particularly the luscious Neko
Case fronted ballads Go Places and Challengers.
That's not to say the band doesn't play anthems - it certainly does, but a rousing track like BÉjar's Myriad
Harbour is more imbued with the ghosts of Fred Neil
and Viv Stanshall than with the new-wave songsters of
yore. In general, Newman's songwriting is slightly more
scrutable this time around; his lyrics still ring with wry
perception and political metaphor, but betray some of
the magnanimity that comes with new love - our arms
fill with miracles, he writes in Go Places.

The sophisticated, rich production values and complex
range of songwriting will allow us to extend the New
Pornographers' audience to new groups: AAA radio listeners, fans of Neko's solo work, and coffee drinkers in
general. At the same time, the overflow of glorious pop
hooks and stompers like Heaven & Earth and Mutiny
will keep the existing fanbase in the groove. Our most
ambitious Buy Early, Get Now preorder promotion will
recruit those existing fans and deploy them online
months prior to street date, while allowing retailers to
sell the record at the same time.

    Tear Down The Walls

The rumbling baritone of Fred Neil and Vince Martins earthy tenor... Its a vocal blend every bit as impressive as the great duos in music history: the Everly Brothers and Simon & Garfunkel with a Greenwich Village twist, of course. Put Neil and Martin, a pair of New York City folkie legends-in-the-making, into a recording studio with a young, pre-Spoonful John Sebastian on harmonica and Felix Pappalardi (later to produce Cream and the Youngbloods) on guitarron (an acoustic Mexican bass guitar) and magic is inevitable. This, of course, is Fred Neil in 1964, well before he just walked away from the folk scene and split for Florida and premature retirement in 1971, to remain an enigma until his recent death. Every recording by this compelling, monstrously talented singer/songwriter should be cherished like spun gold. From the original Elektra Records stereo master, Tear Down the Walls is one of Neils first studio sessions and is undeniably also one of his best.

    Other Side Of This Life

Other Side Of This Life is the final album from American folk music legend Fred Neil, released in 1971 before his long self-imposed retirement from music to focus on dolphin conservation in his home state of Florida. Featuring a side of live recordings of some of his most lasting and well known compositions (including The Dolphins, and Everybody's Talkin') as well as a side of studio sessions featuring Les McCann and Gram Parsons, Other Side of This Life may not be Neil's most memorable album but it's still head and shoulders above most other singer-songwriter material of the era. Reissued on 180 gram LP with a tip-on jacket.

    Long Lost Tapes 1970

    Import

While remaining largely unknown to the general public, Peter Walker was something of a legend along the Boston-New York folk axis of the 1960s, releasing a few celebrated albums for Vanguard during this period. Playing with various folk luminaries like Fred Neil, Joan Baez, Tim Hardin and Karen Dalton, and studying Spanish flamenco and Indian classical guitar with none other than Ravi Shankar, Walker was both a true student of his instrument and a pioneer, using not only acoustic guitar, but, as can be heard on this album, also electric. Recorded in 1970 at Levon Helm's (The Band) house in Woodstock, with the likes of legendary Detroit drummer Maruga Booker and tabla god Badal Roy, this is an essential release for fans.

    Adios

Glen Campbell's final studio album Adiós was recorded at Station West in Nashville following Glen's 'Goodbye Tour.' Produced by Glen's longtime banjo player and friend Carl Jackson, the album features Glen singing four Jimmy Webb songs that Glen never recorded but always loved, including the title track. Adios features songs written by Roger Miller, Bob Dylan, Dickey Lee, Jerry Reed, Fred Neil, and includes a duet with Willie Nelson - 'Funny How Time Slips Away' - and special guest Vince Gill on harmony vocals in 'Am I All Alone (Or Is It Only Me)'.

The album is a true family affair as Glen's daughter Ashley and sons Cal and Shannon, all perform

    Sessions

Released in 1967, Sessions is the follow-up to his classic self-titled solo album. Although the long, meandering, raga influenced songs on Sessions are a bit perplexing at first, the album's rewards increase with each subsequent listening session. Neil's vocal performances are astounding and the album as a whole is a meditative experience. An under-rated LP from one of American folk's finest voices. Reissued on 180 gram vinyl with a tip-on jacket.

    Bus Stop

No rest for the Hollies in 1966! Hot on the heels of Beat Group!, Bus Stop rolled into U.S. record shops, right on schedule. Written by Gouldman, the title track became the bands first Top Ten U.S. single, peaking at #5, and featuring their bell-tone harmonies to perfection. In addition to the sparkling single, the album is packed with their renditions of contemporary hits like Simon and Garfunkel's I Am A Rock, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' Mickey's Monkey' and the Fred Neil/Roy Orbison chestnut Candy Man. Self-penned songs We're Through, Don't Run and Hide and You Know He Did also shine brightly and prove there was no danger of covering up the band members writing skills. With this disc, the Hollies put the rock world on notice that they were the British Invasions most beat-filled battalion!

Out of print for decades, this classic album is FINALLY available again. Sourced from the aurally awesome original U.K. mono master, this LP is pressed on pristine 180-gram vinyl per your turntables request. Get in the queue!

Perhaps the most undervalued band of the original British Invasion, The Hollies hits are well known in the U.S. but their early albums are almost impossible to find! Taking their name from Buddy Holly and modeling their harmonies on the Everly Brothers, the Hollies gathered these American musical ingredients and whipped them into a wholly-UKnique concoction. Forging their sound to the east of their Liverpool brothers-in-beat, this Manchester quintet had it all: the soaring vocals of Allan Clarke, Graham Nash and Tony Hicks; Hicks cascading, arpeggio-laden licks on guitar and a hard-hitting rhythm section driven by drummer extraordinaire Bobby Elliot. On top of that, their keen ears for top quality songs, written by the premier songsmiths of the day like teenage wunderkind Graham Gouldman, Chip Wild Thing Taylor and the stellar in-house writing team of Clarke/Hicks/Nash, ensured that their albums were extraordinary from start to finish. In short, they were a band that exuded greatness on all fronts. Now, as that greatness has been acknowledged by their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Sundazed Music is proud to present meticulously restored vinyl editions of the rare U.S. mono versions of the Hollies third and fourth Imperial label albums, from 1966.
