    Sun Ship

Sun Ship is a jazz album recorded on August 26, 1965, by tenor saxophonist John Coltrane. The album extended the free jazz ideas of Transition. The relaxed, serene feel of earlier ballads like "Welcome" was transformed into a new style of ballad on "Dearly Beloved" and "Attaining". This style involved very slow tempos, drum rolls and fills, and a louder, more intense feel than traditional jazz ballads. Like "Psalm" (from A Love Supreme), there is no real tune, just a scale or series of tones used to build an improvised theme.

Coltrane's solos on the other tracks are also more extreme than on his earlier albums, and are reminiscent of the style of Albert Ayler and Pharaoh Sanders in their extensive use of altissimo and multiphonics. The title "Sun Ship" may have been inspired by Sun Ra's conception of free jazz as having an affinity with science fiction conceptions of human existence.

Sun Ship was one of the only albums John Coltrane's quartet recorded without sound engineer Rudy Van Gelder. It was also one of the last albums (with First Meditations, recorded a week later) which John Coltrane recorded before he began experimenting with larger groups. Tenor saxophonist Pharaoh Sanders was playing regularly with the band by September, 1965, and both McCoy Tyner and Elvin Jones left the band in January, 1966.

    The Ship

Humankind seems to teeter between hubris and paranoia: the hubris of our ever-growing power contrasts with the paranoia that we're permanently and increasingly under threat. At the zenith we realize we have to come down again...we know that we have more than we deserve or can defend, so we become nervous. Somebody, something is going to take it all from us: that is the dread of the wealthy. Paranoia leads to defensiveness, and we all end up in the trenches facing each other across the mud." - Brian Eno The Ship, a new album by Brian Eno, will be released by Warp Records.

The Ship is Eno's first solo record since 2012's Grammy- nominated LUX. Originally conceived from experiments with three dimensional recording techniques and formed in two, interconnected parts, The Ship is almost as much musical novel as traditional album. Eno brings together beautiful songs, minimalist ambience, physical electronics, omniscient narratives and technical innovation into a single, cinematic suite. The result is the very best of Eno, a record without parallel in his catalogue.

The album opens with the 21-minute eponymously titled "The Ship" on which Eno's cyclically sung sea-chant builds in ominous drama, followed by "Fickle Sun", a song in three movements. The first continues where "The Ship" left but with Eno's voice sounding more upfront, determined, even despairing. The album's finale is a Lou Reed penned cover of The Velvet Underground's "I'm Set Free", a band who were famously credited by Eno as the inspiration behind his early music explorations as an art student. Coinciding with The Ship's release, a series of Eno installations will be happening around the world at which you will be able to hear an alternative telling of The Ship in multi-channel 3-dimensional sound installations.

4-Page, Full Color Booklet Included Featuring Liner Notes And A Collection Of Never-Before-Seen Photos

ALL ABOARD! Tiny Tim is taking us for a wild ride down the gramophone horn as he resurrects the sounds of yesteryear - his way.

Tiny Tim's America began in 1974 when Tiny Tim recorded a rehearsal tape alone in his New York City hotel room. Now, Ship To Shore PhonoCo. has reunited Tiny with his producer Richard Barone (I've Never Seen A Straight Banana: Rare Moments, Volume 1) and his cousin, pianist and arranger Eddie Rabin, to help Tiny complete the album he began 42 years ago!

Featuring Tiny's renditions of a rich collection of turn of the century, Edison cylinder-era songs, Tiny Tim's America showcases Tiny at his best; free from the constraints of producers and studios, and displaying the breadth of his musical knowledge and true depth of his ability as a performer.

    Naked Lunch Soundtrack

Featuring Original Artwork By Rich Kelly

    Celebrating Naked Lunch's 25th Anniversary

    First Time Ever On Vinyl

In collaboration with Howe Records, we're excited to announce celebrating the 25th anniversary for the score to Naked Lunch. Composed by three-time Oscar-winner Howard Shore collaborating with both jazz legend Ornette Coleman and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

The soundtrack is a dazzling mix of a traditional Hollywood Orchestral score with incredible free jazz flourishes from Coleman , here he works with the London Philharmonic creating incredible textures over Shore's beautiful , edgy and moody orchestrations that recall Bernard Herrmann's work on Taxi Driver and occasionally lets loose without them (Bugpowder, Interzone Suite) backed only by his son Denardo on drums, these tracks are thrilling and offer a perfect counterbalance to the more measured tracks with the Orchestra, showcasing the incredible and fearless free jazz stylings that made him a legend.

The Shape Of Jazz To Come

Ranked #246 on Rolling Stone's List of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time

Quartet Includes Don Cherry and Charlie Haden

Mastered from the Original Master Tapes on 180 Gram Vinyl

1959's landscape-shifting The Shape of Jazz to Come is true to its title. Switching from tenor to alto sax, Ornette Coleman creates free jazz, a language where chords structures are absent and harmony gives way to improvisational whims. The Atlantic set finds Coleman collaborating with Don Cherry, Charlie Haden, and Billy Higgins in making a masterful work free of any identifiable chord structures. Nonetheless, melodies remain, as do engrossing repetitions of main themes.

ORG Music brings the breakthrough arrangements and magnificent colors to life in a way no one's experienced since the LP was recorded. Mastered from the original master tapes, this life-changing music has never sounded so alive and dynamic. This is a must.

Occult Detective Club is made up of Alx Anguiano on vocals/guitars, Andrew Messer on guitars, Chris Reeves on drums and Tyler Shults on bass. With echoes of The Jam, Boys, Clash, Sham 69 and the passion and forward thinking of Billy Bragg, on their new album, Occult Detective Club is the sound of today with a nod to the past. Taking a cue from an increasingly active underground Texas music scene, they play a mix of first wave punk and new wave music with a focus on the catchy chorus, the thoughtful lyric and a DIY mentality.

    South America

    Colored Vinyl!

When it came to writing their sophomore album South America, Thieves And Villains decided to sculpt the album as if they were the only four people on earth to hear it. Looking for a new sense of direction, the band mentally escaped to a beautiful hiding place that they named South America. They found that this venture in their collective minds would allow them to be free, which in-turn, helped create music that excited them, and that they would ultimately fall in love with.

However, the record was still being created under the same confines as many bands today; a spastic sinking ship of a country that has never been as stressed out, paranoid, or misled as it is right now, an America that is truly going "south." The result of this is the album title that came to represent the dichotomy of one location being the place you hate and love the most; the place you escape to, yet the place you despise.

Thieves And Villains took the same indie-rock vibe as Vampire Weekend, combined it with the childlike sense of wonder found in an early Daneil Johnston song, and added the quirkiness implemented in the Pinkerton-era of Weezer. With the help of producer Tim Gilles, the band took an old approach and made it new again. In a world of over-produced and over-auto-tuned songs recorded take after take, they set out to bring music as a whole, back to its roots.

"We recorded the entire album to analog tape on Mr. Gilles' vintage tape machines and used all our own gear and live tones. We didn't do takes of anything to death and approached every section with a real 'what you see is what you get' logic. What you're listening to is not the product of hours of tweaking, its the product of a few friends having fun and making music the old fashioned way." Volunteers (Pure Pleasure) (Awaiting Repress)

Ranked 370/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Jefferson Airplane, wrote the magazine Rolling Stone, is a ship which transports its passengers to the revolutionary fantasies of their own minds. If only the group had included such well-formulated psychological analyses in their lyrics, then they would probably not have shot so meteorically into the orbit of the psychedelic 'acid rock' scene. And what is more: as self-appointed executors of chaos and anarchy, they 'turned on' their fans with musical sexual allegories, drug-extolling lyrics and revolutionary songs. In 1966, armed with a lucrative recording contract from RCA-Victor, they won through against much opposition from recording company bosses and released their album Volunteers, thereby bringing what is probably the very best recording from their early years to the public.

The music of these rock rebels is, in fact, a good deal less drastic than their texts. The leaders of the combo, Marty Balin and Paul Kantner, both of whom grew up in the Californian folk scene, have put their stake on melodic and rhythmically close-knit rock and multi-part vocals. And even today, one is still astounded by the wide range of styles favoured by the hippie generation, which stretches from the down-to-earth country music of The Farm to the electronically distorted collage Meadowlands.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Live At The Village Vanguard Again!

Live At The Village Vanguard Again! is a jazz album by saxophonist John Coltrane. Recorded in May 1966, the album shows Coltrane playing in the free jazz style that characterized his final recordings.

Out of all the recordings made during the session, only three pieces remain: Naima, originally from the album Giant Steps, My Favorite Things, from the album of the same name, and a bass solo by Jimmy Garrison entitled, Introduction to My Favorite Things. The line up consists of the augmented quartet of the time, featuring Alice Coltrane on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass and Rashied Ali on drums. Additionally, Pharoah Sanders contributes on flute and tenor saxophone, while Emanuel Rahim plays percussion.

    Hunt EDA Brush

The Hunt EDA record cleaning brush contains over 1,000,000 anti static carbon fibers. The fibers are in two rows with a static grounding pad centered between. The grounding pad supports the tiny carbon fibers and keeps them erect so they can dig down deep into the groove and extract trapped dust. Look at a record. It contains microscopic undulations inside the groove wall smaller than a human hair that the naked eye cannot see. This is how music is stored on an LP. And this is why fat pads will not do. A fat pad can't get down into the groove. It simply brushes over the top and removes the surface dust. The real culprit is the dust that's trapped deep in the record groove. The only way to remove this dust is with the Hunt EDA. It's super easy to use. Don't push it down on the record simply support the back of the brush with your hand and let the brush's weight do the work. You want to keep those bristles erect not rolled over. The Hunt EDA comes with it's own support stand which also doubles as a cleaning tool. Slide the stand back and forth across the carbon fiber bristles to remove the dust. This will keep the carbon fibers clean and free from your messy hand oils. Use alone or ideally with a Zerostat gun. First, destat the record with the gun then use the Hunt EDA to brush the dust off. There is no finer dry record cleaning method.

A Meal You Can Shake Hands With In The Dark (Pure Pleasure)

Pete Brown was a Londoner and a veteran of the underground scene. Born in 1940, he first came to prominence as a poet. He was just 14 when his first poem appeared in Evergreen Revue in the US. Then in the early sixties he worked alongside another British poet Mike Horowitz. His direct involvement with rock music came when he was asked to form a songwriting partnership with Jack Bruce to write lyrics for Cream and the partnership proceeded to produce the lyrics for many of their finest songs: Wrapping Paper, I Feel Free, Sunshine Of Your Love and White Room. After the demise of Cream, Brown continued to write with Bruce but also began his own recording career with The Battered Ornaments who included Chris Spedding. After an initial 45, which with its wailing saxes and effective vocals was underrated, the band recorded this album which was a mixture of jazz-rock and blues. Dark Lady, The Old Man and Station Song were among the fine tracks and the latter later got a further airing on the Before Singing Lessons compilation. Station Song and Dark Lady had earlier featured along with Travelling Blues on the ultra-rare promo-only Harvest Sampler in 1969.

Brown then suffered the humiliation of being thrown out of the band the night before they had a Hyde Park gig with The Rolling Stones. Brown's response was to form a new band, Piblokto!

This release breaks the long sides down to four sides of vinyl which enhances the sound quality considerably. Also of interest is that it has been mastered in the same studio at Abbey Road as was the initial release and from the same original analogue tape masters.

    Seven Turns

    Import

Seven Turns is the ninth studio album by the Allman Brothers Band, released in 1990. Their first studio album since Brothers of the Road in 1981, it was well-received, and peaked at #53. Hit singles were Good Clean Fun (#1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks); Seven Turns (#12) and It Ain't Over Yet (#26).

This is the Allman Brothers Band's comeback album, and their best Blues-based outing since Idlewild South that restored a lot of their reputation. With Tom Dowd running the session, and the group free to make the music they wanted to, they ended up producing this bold, rock-hard album, made up mostly of songs by Dickey Betts (with contributions by new keyboardman Johnny Neel and lead guitarist Warren Haynes), almost every one of them a winner.

Apart from the rippling opening number, Good Clean Fun, which he co-authored, Gregg Allman's contribution is limited to singing and the organ, but the band seem more confident than ever, ripping through numbers like Low Down Dirty Mean, Shine It On, and Let Me Ride like they were inventing blues-rock here, and the Ornette Coleman-inspired True Gravity is their best instrumental since Jessica.

    Rated O

With Rated O, Oneida has delivered a monster which happens to be the crowning achievement of their storied creative lives. By producing this colossus they have also created the necessity of its destruction, which within the confines of this tremendous accomplishment, they do so handily and with utter fluency. Perhaps Rated O represents the encyclopedic representation of Oneida music, creativity and insatiability. The music contained within the covers of Rated O must be seen as a gifted wilderness that when traversed will grant the traveler both a fractured mirror and a demolished and worried pathway deeper into the abyss. This album is an attempt to contain the entirety of Oneida and thus it points the way to infinite rebirth and boundless creativity. It is a finite map and the suggestion of unknown worlds.

Oneida has been releasing genre-defying music since 1997. They have nine full-length albums (one as double album, and now one as triple album) and various EPs and singles to their name. The list of great musicians and artists that Oneida have performed or collaborated with is far too extensive to briefly summarize here. They are critical darlings, they have become ambassadors for Jagjaguwar, and they are paying it forward with a label of their own called Brah Records (distributed by Jagjaguwar). For the reductivist in you, consider Oneida the bastard offspring of a Can/Suicide marriage, a band who is not afraid to pluck, tap, bend, synth or crash their way to the various extremes of rock, pop, folk and the avant-garde, and who brilliantly do so without alienating the respective fans of any of these so-called genres.

This triple LP version comes in a beautiful triple pocket gatefold jacket and contains a digital download coupon for free MP3s of all three platters.

My Human Wears Acedia Shreds (Discontinued)

    Limited Edition 10 paste-on sleeve

    Exclusive artwork by Dimlite

If Dimlites recent Prismic Tops EP served as a stunning
reintroduction to one of electronic musics most underrated talents,
then My Human Wears Acedia Shreds is a warning to listeners and
peers alike: keep up or be left behind. This quartet of songs finds the
Swiss producer creating wide-eyed and progressive music that
synthesises free jazz, prog- and kraut-rock, and much more. There is
no one else quite on his level, no one who inhabits a world so
    complete and unique.

While he built his reputation with a string of pioneering releases on
Germanys Sonar Kollectiv label that took hip-hop as their starting
point, these days Dimlite is more Soft Machine than drum machine, a
kindred spirit of purveyors of avant-pop such as Panda Bear, and the
playful prog giants of the past. This quartet of songs contains a
richness that makes these his most satisfying compositions yet. Just
check Metal Snake Rider, an expansive opus packed into just over
    three minutes of non-stop invention.

At times its even pretty, though Dimlite seems uneasy about the
beauty he creates, never allowing anything too perfect to take shape
before clipping its wings or trampling it back into the dirt. Its this
tension in his music that makes it so captivating: a constant tussle of
wills between the dreamer and the cynic, the traveller and the
trapped. Just check Loins, in which long-time collaborator
Misel Quitnos drums thump out a brutish ode to Can while
Dimlites celebratory harmonies are taunted by the anxious
squall that lurks beneath. Though ask its creator and hell tell you
simply, its about loins and using them properly.

By the time you have adjusted to the dream-world of My Human
Wears Acedia Shreds Dimlite will pull the plug, dropping you
back into your monochromatic doldrums. Its OK though. As you
unravel the secret code in EP closer Gone-O-Tron, youll know
    its not forever.

    B-Room

First 5000 Limited Edition LP's Contain 7" & CD Of Full Album

Dr.Dog's third studio album on Anti, BRoom, marks the band's greatest point of clarity in more than a decade of performing and recording. Their arrangements, while still ambitious, are much simpler, moving past the multitracked pastiche of earlier efforts into a unique and vibrant band voice. Indeed, it is this discovery of the bandcollective as a compositional tool that makes BRoom the most cohesive, soulful, loose, and plain fun record of their career.

The title of BRoom references the bands newly built studio, an integral part of making the new album; the band built the new studio themselves, from the studs to the sheet rock to the recording booth. As
Leaman now understands, making a record is a lot like doing construction. Both require a similar amount of frustration, intensity, and cohesion. By building the space first and releasing all of that emotion, the band was then free to engage in their creative process without the expectation or preconception that they admittedly had brought into
    other sessions.

Recording many of the album's tracks as live takes, Dr.Dog discovered the soul roots always inherent in their Philadelphia background. "The Truth",the Gamble and Huff inspired track that opens the album, is only the most obvious manifestation; on songs like "Minding the Usher" and "Love" the spontaneity of the band's live performances seamlessly fuses
with the intricacy of their kaleidoscopic composition. From the construction of the studio to the recording of the album that took place within its walls, the band has found that boundless moment of creativity where their spirit and soul coexist.
