Painting Of A Panic AttackPainting Of A Panic Attack was recorded at Dessner's Brooklyn studio - where The National also recorded The National's High Violet and Trouble Will Find Me - and at Dreamland Studio in Woodstock, NY in the summer of 2015. Much of the album is indebted lyrically to Los Angeles, where frontman Scott Hutchison moved to from Scotland in 2014 Tracks such as Get Out, the lead single which chronicles an addictive and obsessive love, and Still Want To Be Here, telling of his struggle with adjusting to life in LA, perfectly encapsulate the mindset of the Frightened Rabbit frontman since the band's last release. And, of the album closer Die Like A Rich Boy, Dessner says, [It] feels like a completely classic song, but it's also a distillation of everything Scott has ever written about. It's so gracefully constructed and realized, and it's not trying to be anything other than what it is. I wish I could write a song like that.1. Death Dream

It's FrighteningAfter spending the better part of two years on the road (including festival stops at Lollapalooza, Glastonbury, Sasquatch, Monolith and tours with The Walkmen, Spoon, Richard Swift, The Cribs, White Denim and Tokyo Police Club) the White Rabbits hunkered down in their Brooklyn practice space to set about re-envisioning the dark pop of their critically acclaimed debut Fort Nightly, while adding new sounds and influences to achieve an original work. The result is It's Frightening, their second full-length album produced by Britt Daniel of Spoon, mixed by Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Trail Of Dead) and engineered by Nicolas Vernhes (Cat Power, Animal Collective).1. The Wonderful And Frightening World Of The FallReleased in 1984, The Wonderful And
Frightening World Of The Fall was the
band's seventh studio album and their first

the integration of Brix Smith into the band
added a melodic twist. This LP has been

Owl JohnOwl John, aka Scott Hutchison of critically acclaimed Scottish group Frightened Rabbit, is proud to announce the release of his self-titled debut solo album out on Canvasback / Atlantic Records. The Owl John album, which showcases Scott's trademark brutal honesty, sees a different direction from the music of Frightened Rabbit. Raw, powerful and often heart-breaking, 'Owl John' will see Scott step out of Frightened Rabbit's shadow.
The Owl John album was born of Scott's desire to get creatively inspired ahead of the next Frightened Rabbit record, and with the rest of the band on a break following the release of their 4th album Pedestrian Verse (their first with Atlantic Records) reaching the Top 10 in February 2013. Scott headed to the Isle Of Mull with the mission to write and record an album in two weeks. With Andy and Simon (who also plays guitar from Frightened Rabbit's live band), they hired a space in the Island's Tobermory Arts Centre, 'An Tobar'. For a fortnight they made music by day and drank whisky by night; at the end an album was made and 'Owl John' was born.1. Cold Creeps

With its open-armed energy and elegiac grace, "AUGUSTINES" marks a colossal leap forward for Votiv/Oxcart recording group Augustines - no mean
feat considering the extraordinary power of their breakthrough 2011 debut, "RISE YE SUNKEN SHIPS."
"AUGUSTINES" marks a milestone on Augustines' amazing journey, the work of a gifted band ascending to new heights while simultaneously grappling
with their place in the universe. With their recent tour with Frightened Rabbit, Augustines brought their brilliant new album to a worldwide audience keen
for their return. Eric Sanderson (bass, keyboards, vocals) describes the Augustines' live shows, saying "The audience is singing, the audience is dancing,

Shore ObsessedSoft Circle started as the solo project of Hisham Akira Bharoocha after he left the experimental band Black Dice in 2004. Bharoocha started out making tribal/electronic/ambient soundscapes that forged paths between the spirit world and the human clans of the past and present using looping equipment, electronics, drums, and voice. His recent music is still based on this fascination with repetition, cyclical rhythms, and trance-inducing tones, but has gone further in the direction of heavy beats and more solidified song structures, with Bharoocha now using lyrics as a means to communicate.
Soft Circles new album, Shore Obsessed (Post Present Medium), is its first to feature collaborations from new member and multi-instrumentalist Benjamin Vida (Town and Country, Bird Show, Singer), and includes additional vocals by singer/songwriter Matteah Baim. The album serves as a comment on the current state of our disturbed planet. Deeply frightened by the way the governments of all nations and the wealthy use their power to drain the planet of its resources without taking into account the destruction of the environment or the toll on the global economy, Bharoocha sings about the bottomless pit of greed and the lack of humanitarianism that we as a people must get back in touch with. Shore Obsessed uses more traditional song structures than on past releases, as well as dance-music beats, to entice the audience to move, a positive act, and to think progressively when listening to the lyrics.1. Remember Us To LifeRegina Spektor returns with her seventh album Remember Us To Life out on Sire/Warner Bros. Records.
The new LP marks Spektor's first outing since 2012's What We Saw From The Cheap Seats, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard Album Chart and her Grammy-nominated theme song "You've Got Time" for the hit Netflix show Orange Is The New Black.
Remember Us To Life is composed entirely of all new songs recently written by Spektor, a change from past albums when she would record songs written throughout her career. Spektor gave birth to her first child in 2014 and she spent considerable time writing during and after her pregnancy. Says Spektor "I made more art and felt more inspired than I had in a long time."
Spektor recorded with producer Leo Abrahams (David Byrne/Brian Eno, Frightened Rabbit, Paolo Nutini) in Los Angeles at The Village Studios. Says Spektor of Abrahams, "he is such a kind and talented musician. And person! I felt very grateful to work with him."
Born in the Soviet Union, Spektor began studying classical piano when she was six. Her family emigrated in 1989, landing in New York City, where she continued her classical training. Spektor eventually studied composition at the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College where she graduated with honors. She began writing pop songs in her late teens and made her recorded debut in 2001 with the self-released 11:11, a collection of songs heavily influenced by jazz and blues. Songs followed in 2002 and Soviet Kitsch in 2004. Spektor's commercial breakthrough came in 2006 on her fourth LP, Begin to Hope. The gold-certified album included the singles "On the Radio," "Better" and "Fidelity," which climbed the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Spektor's fifth album, Far released in 2009, and sixth album, What We Saw From the Cheap Seats released in 2012, both debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.1. Bleeding Heart

Teeth DreamsIn 2014, the Hold Steady release their sixth LP Teeth Dreams, nearly four years after the Brooklyn band's previous full-length album, 2010's Heaven Is Whenever. It's the longest gap between albums in the rock band's decade-plus career. [The recording process] may have dragged out a bit this time, singer Craig Finn tells Rolling Stone. But I think it's all for the best.
Teeth Dreams was recorded over the past two years in Brooklyn and Franklin, Tenn. and marks a new beginning for the Hold Steady: it's their first album recorded with longtime touring guitarist Steve Selvidge, who joined the band on the road following the 2010 departure of multi-instrumentalist Franz Nicolay. It was exciting again, says guitarist Tad Kubler. There was a newness to this album that I hadn't felt in awhile.
The new tracks find the band leaning heavy on distortion and snaking guitar licks - Finn's favorite of the batch is On With the Business, a pummeling blast of electric guitar and vocal delay that finds the notoriously sharp-eyed vocalist appraising a city heavy on weak handshakes and beautiful kitchens. On The Ambassador, one of the album's rare moments of serenity, Finn's details a temporary holding cell of a shack-up in Michigan with hot and glistening nights and halls that smelled like burning hair. And the band's first single, I Hope This Whole Thing Didn't Frighten You (streaming below) is a barreling Foo Fighters-style melodic rocker, with rapid-fire vocals spilling from Finn as drummer Bobby Drake swings beneath.
He says the band has drummed up their biggest-sounding, most rock-oriented album to date. We were looking to make a big rock record, he admits. Maybe it's less wild but in some ways that makes it a bigger record."

The Unique Thelonious MonkThelonious Monk's second album for Riverside continued the label's initial plant to broaden his audience by the use of recognizable standard tunes instead of his somewhat frightening originals. Thelonious's uncompromising performances, major-league support from Art Blakey and Oscar Pettiford, and strong material all helped turn this concept into lastingly superior jazz. Particularly notable are his sharp thrusts of humor on such well-worn pieces as Honeysuckle Rose and Tea for Two. The album's impact was strengthened by one of the most unique covers ever devised, Riverside actually went so far as to print quantities of almost postage-sized Monk stamps.1. Tale Spinnin' (Speakers Corner)
We played music that people listened to every day just as they watch the news every evening, music which changed constantly - just like the weather, reminisced Joe Zawinul when talking about coming up with a name for the group. This would probably frighten off listeners in today's mass market. But back in those days CBS was satisfied with the group's sound being somewhat similar to the Miles Davis Combo and offered them a recording contract without carrying out the usual sound check. The magic potion Bitches Brew, which Zawinul and Wayne Shorter had conjured up with Miles Davis, was promising of exhilarating new things to come.
The heart-stopping mix of motivic fixed points and exciting improvisations, »the sketchy melodies, all that a synthesizer and other similar electronic devices could offer, combined with a Milky Way of rhythms« (Der Spiegel) was the pathway down which the group went - without ever becoming pure routine. The fifth album, Tale Spinnin', is captivating for its wealth of distinctive, often warm, synthesized sounds, which are further enhanced by Wayne Shorter's bright, twangy soprano saxophone, lending it a jazzy aura. To be sure, this gripping jazz fusion never progresses steadily all the time, but takes up snatchy, though seemingly familiar, melodic ingredients and combines them to produce a new mixture. Badia, however, is completely different: a quietly flowing and totally rhythmic ethnic work, which today would be classified as World Music.

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

South Of HeavenWhen it comes to death metal, no band is more convincing than Slayer. For other bands, focusing on death, Satanism, the supernatural, and the occult became a clichÉ; but Slayer's controversial reflections on evil always came across as honest and heartfelt. The group's sincerity is the thing that makes South of Heaven so disturbing and powerful -- when the influential thrashers rip into such morbid fare as Spill the Blood, Mandatory Suicide, and Ghosts of War, they are frighteningly convincing. With their fourth album, Slayer began to slow their tempos without sacrificing an iota of heaviness or incorporating any pop elements. South of Heaven would be Slayer's last album for Def Jam. When Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons (brother of Joseph Run Simmons of Run-D.M.C.) parted company, Slayer went to Rubin's new company Def American, while LL Cool J, Slick Rick, and other rappers recorded for Simmons at Def Jam.

The Holy BibleIt's difficult not to look at The Holy Bible as Richey James' last will and testament, yet that only makes the record all the more powerful. A remarkable step forward from the Manic Street Preachers' first two records, The Holy Bible is a tense, harrowing collection of tortured, cryptic declarations of depression -- the diary of anorexia 4st 7lb is one of the most chilling songs in rock & roll. James' lyrics, which are punctuated by Nicky Wire's political tirades, are unflinching in their bleakness. Every song has a passage frightening in its imagery. Although the music itself isn't as scarily intense, its tight, terse hard rock and glam hooks accentuate the paranoia behind the songs, making the lyrics cut deeper.1. Yes

Geidi PrimesGeidi Primes is Grimes' debut LP. Originally available as a free download, and a limited release of cassettes, it's now available worldwide. It has a strange air of being created unconsciously while the artist herself was asleep. It is a vastly intriguing set of pop tunes highlighted by its amazing fifth and sixth songs: Avi and Feyd Rautha Dark Heart, which are each frighteningly reminiscent of an unaccountable psychic experience you may have never had. It seems like an album made for very tall people about what it's like to be very small. It calls to mind the glowering of a child king amidst the many vestments and decorations of his coronation. Scratch My Back...And I'll Scratch YoursGatefold sleeve
Rather than make a traditional covers record, I thought it would be much more fun to create a new type of project in which artists communicated with each other and swapped a song for a song, i.e. you do one of mine and I'll do one of yours, hence the title - Scratch My Back - And I'll Scratch Yours. Peter Gabriel
Scratch My Back And I'll Scratch Yours is a series of song exchanges in which Gabriel and other leading artists reinterpret each other's songs. The first half of this double album, titled Scratch My Back, was originally released in 2010. Gabriel covers work by seasoned superstars like David Bowie, Paul Simon and Lou Reed, but he also took on marvelous interpretations of work by younger acts like Arcade Fire, Bon Iver and Radiohead. In 2013, most of these artists returned the favour on And I'll Scratch Yours.
The reciprocating artists opted for differing approaches to Peter's songs. A few chose to radically reinterpret the original material, in the process leaving it barely recognisable - Lou Reed's snarling Solsbury Hill or the frighteningly futuristic version of Mother Of Violence by Brian Eno, co-writer of David Bowie's Heroes covered by Gabriel on Scratch My Back. Other contributors include Arcade Fire (Games Without Frontiers), Elbow (Mercy Street) and Regina Spektor (Blood Of Eden).LP1

PsychosisBreath in, breath out: Psychosis is the fourth installment from the most lucent export of Brazil: CAVALERA CONSPIRACY!
The Thrash Metal-brothers Iggor and Max Cavalera dive deep into the mire of human panic and anxiety states. This is the soundtrack to your worst sickness, a most sinister Thrash-psychoses that rip the scabs from old wounds.
The album features brutal shredding on the track Spectral War then progresses to super-fast blastbeats in Judas Pariah that lead into the stomping beast called Crom. A hail of Black and Death Metal-arsenal that disturb your hearing in so many ways! Just merciless. Primarily these guitar solos chatter in paranoid disharmony.

This record is so powerful, that even the thought of hearing this wonder hurts. The brothers Cavalera have outlived all the crazy eras of metal and remain more stable and frightening than ever! Felt (Pre-Order)There are those in our ranks who are touting this new triumphant
collection from Montreal's art-rock heroes SUUNS as the
most outright grooved record they've made. But hold it right
there. Not so fast. SUUNS have always had that deep groove
on fucking lock, albeit oft-slithering within an austere and/or
sneering veneer. Consider, if you will, how Kraftwerk had far
more funk flowing through their wires and cables than most of
we flesh bodies. Same goes for the necromancers of SUUNS.
And their world class drummer Liam O'Neill has heroically
accepted the challenge of playing in and around programmed
beats like a diabolical, sentient metronome. O'Neill's kit is a bit
more out front than it's been in a hot minute and he's as patient
and ferocious as ever. Meanwhile, Singer/guitarist Ben Shemie's
sourmilk deliver is as frightening and enchanting as ever, but
now coming from some deep area that feels like a human heart.

I Can Spin A RainbowI CAN SPIN A RAINBOW is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for Amanda Palmer, an avowed fan of Edward Ka-Spel and the Legendary Pink Dots since discovering their psycho-theatrical, multi-textural work in her teens. As noted in her best-selling 2014 memoir, The Art of Asking, the LPD have long been an inspiration to Palmer, their deeply connected relationship with fans as important to her life and work as their fearless autonomy and impossible-to-pigeonhole musical approach.
The two musicians first met in 1992 when Palmer, then 16, attended a Legendary Pink Dots show in her hometown of Boston. In 1995, having found that the Pink Dots were looking for lodging with fans to save money on the road, Palmer hosted five members of the band and crew at her childhood home. Ten years later, Palmer's internationally acclaimed punk cabaret duo, The Dresden Dolls, had achieved enough success that they were able to invite the Dots to support them on a German tour, and it was then that Palmer and Ka-Spel vowed to carve out time to collaborate on an original recording. A decade passed and in July 2015 a very pregnant Palmer flew to London to start the long-discussed project but was informed on the first day of recording that her dear friend Anthony was losing his battle with cancer and had been given less than a week to live. Heartbroken, she assured Ka-Spel she would be back within the year. Indeed Palmer made good on her promise, returning in the spring of 2016 with her eight-month-old son, Anthony, in tow.
Palmer and Ka-Spel's search for a London recording studio was interrupted by an incredibly generous offer from Palmer's friend Imogen Heap, who suggested they make use of her Essex home recording studio, The Hideaway, conveniently located near Ka-Spel's own home in Hornchurch. With Palmer traveling between London, Hornchurch, and Heap's home studio, the pair spent just under a month composing and cutting an album entirely from scratch.
Recorded largely on Ka-Spel's computer, I CAN SPIN A RAINBOW is a truly collaborative effort, "a spiritual experience," says Palmer, in which both artists' stories, song fragments, poems, and lyrics became wholly meshed with loops, melancholy piano playing, melodic beds, and strange rhythms. The results range from the enchantingly minimal "The Clock at the Back of the Cage" and the album-opening "Pulp Fiction," mysterious and strange with a luxurious theatricality that conjures both of its creators' prior oeuvres while also opening a curtain into a heretofore unheard shared sonic world. Sensing the need for strings, the pair enlisted frequent LPD collaborator Patrick Q Wright, who contributed violin tracks from his studio in Italy. Alexis Michallek, Heap's longtime studio assistant, contributes singing saw to "Beyond The Beach."
"We merged our songwriting heads and poetic worlds to make a new universe," Palmer says. "We would sit in Imogen's house drinking cups of tea, bemoaning the state of the upcoming election, binge drinking in the UK, the refugee crisis, our internet addictions, frightening news we had read, our relationships and then we'd compost all of the ingredients of our fears and conversations into song form. The Rainbow metaphor - which is also a nod to the 'spinning beach ball of death' on a Mac - was a wide-open image that kept popping up as a recurring theme on the record. It's both dark and light at the same time. To me, the songs are simultaneously frightening and comforting, like a thunderstorm heard from a living room."
"Making this record with Amanda felt a little like discovering a twin you didn't know you had," says Ka-Spel, "until a mysterious email lands in your inbox at a particularly auspicious moment. Some things are just meant to be "1. Pulp Fiction
