    Songs From The Road

In 1999, after an extended break from the spotlight, Leonard Cohen returned to the recording studio and world stage with a passion. From then until now, his albums, concerts and DVD releases have informed a new generation. At the same time, Cohen has heroically fulfilled the dreams of his first generation of fans that have been following his career at Columbia Records since his debut LP in 1967.

Following the celebration of his 40th year as a Columbia artist in 2007 and coinciding with his induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in March of 2008, Cohen thrilled his fans by announcing his first tour dates in 15 years. Hes gone on to play the most prestigious and beautiful venues in virtually every corner of the globe, mesmerizing and charming audiences with performances that were hailed as some of the best of his career.

One dozen of Leonard Cohens most famous songs from those recent world tour performances at auditorium halls, festivals, arenas, and stadiums from Tel Aviv to London, from across Europe to the California desert and his native Canada, are now collected here on Songs from the Road.

Live on stage Lynyrd Skynyrd were as white-hot as a band can get. One More From The Road (1976) is the first album that recorded them exactly that way, three years after their debut Pronounced Leh-Nerd-Skin-Nerd. The result is not surprising. It entered the Top 10 instantly, proving to be their best selling album of all time. One More From The Road

Released in 1976, It marked the band's first live album, and the only live album from the classic era of the band (1970-1977) prior to the plane crash. It was enthusiastically embraced, entering the Top 10 (it would become one of their best-selling albums, as well). It's easy to see why it was welcomed, since this album demonstrates what a phenomenal catalog of songs Skynyrd accumulated.

    Road From Memphis

The Road from Memphis starts with a young Booker T. Jones hauling his stack of newspapers to Phineas Newborn's front yard where, while folding them for his after]school delivery route, he could listen to the jazz great practice piano. It ends with Booker and The Roots roaring through a set of both timeless and contemporary originals (and propulsive covers of Gnarls Barkley's Crazy and Lauren Hill's Everything Is Everything.

Along for the ride are vocalists Matt Berninger of the National, Yim Yames of My Morning Jacket, Sharon Jones, Lou Reed, and Booker himself, telling the story of how the funk/soul sound that Booker helped invent spiraled out from Memphis, touching The Roots' hometown of Philadelphia, New York (where engineer Gabe Roth has been recreating classic soul sonics for everyone from Sharon Jones to Amy Winehouse), and Detroit.

Detroit as in Dennis Coffey, legendary Motown session guitarist who introduced driving rock]funk rhythm to hits like Cloud Nine and Ball of Confusion by the Temptations, and brings his Detroit grit to these tracks. The Road from Memphis is classic Memphis soul, and classic Booker in the tradition of Green Onions, but beyond that it is the story of a sound, and how Booker, working with the inheritors of his sound, is keeping a tradition alive.

    Killer Road

Double LP With Gatefold Sleeve And 16-Page Booklet

LP 1 Is Black Vinyl, LP 2 Is White Colored Vinyl

A shimmering ambient tone, an electronic underlay to the lulling chatter of
crickets, makes way for the unmistakable voice of Patti Smith, quietly intoning,
ominously, "The killer road is waiting for you / like a finger, pointing in the night."

Behind the music and concept of Killer Road is international trio Soundwalk
Collective - Stephan Crasneanscki, Simone Merli, and Kamran Sadeghi - who,
alongside Patti Smith's daughter, Jesse Paris, conceived an immersive exploration
of the tragic death of Christa PÄffgen. Better known as Nico, the Velvet
Underground chanteuse and solo pioneer, PÄffgen died while riding her bike on
the island of Ibiza in the summer of 1988. Ironically, she'd recently got her health
back, after fifteen years of heroin addiction. It was Nico's body's reaction to its
new sobriety, and the fact she was cycling at the hottest time of the day, on the
hottest day of the year, that was to prove her undoing.

In the years before she died, Nico had not neglected her creative muse, writing
poetry that would never be published, or heard, until now, in the form of the
opening title track, "Killer Road." The tracks that follow are eight interpretations
of Nico lyrics, predominantly taken from classic albums such as Desertshore and
Drama of Exile, arranged by fellow poet and kindred spirit Patti Smith.

The roots of Killer Road lie in a fortuitous meeting on an airplane bound for New
York. One passenger was Smith; the other was Soundwalk Collective founder
Crasneanscki. Soundwalk had previously been a collaborative series of walking
guides to cities that created an idiosyncratic and evocative understanding for the
listener, before evolving into musical frameworks for field recordings and sight
specific sound installations and performances using a variety of texts and themes.

Killer Road was initially a live audio-visual experience, at the French Institute
Alliance Francaise in New York as part of 2014's Crossing the Line festival. Finally,
we now have the recorded version, a poignant, profound, imaginative exploration
and tribute nearly 30 years after that fateful summer's day.

Sourced from the original master tapes

Cut at the legendary Abbey Road Studios!

Pressed on 180 gram vinyl, sourced from the original master tapes, and cut at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, your collection needs this Beatles classic. The last studio album from the group at a time when the group barely was one, amazingly this album is widely regarded as the best they ever made--a true tribute to the purity of the music.

To produce this vinyl, a team of gifted producers and engineers came together for four long years to mix and master on state of the art equipment. Like a science experiment, they theorized, tried, and tested extensively before copying the master tapes to digital 24 bit/192kHz resolution, never once touching the original songs but carefully removing clicks, pops, and poor edits; one last polish on what Rolling Stone Magazine considers the 14th out of 500 best albums of all time.

The 70s band Brinsley Schwarz evolved from a steady rock band to a group which became the definitive pub rock band. The detailed sound of their fourth album Nervous on the Road and the smooth production makes it a great album to listen to. There are some excellent rock & roll songs on the album, like Happy Doing What We're Doing and Surrender to the Rhythm. A lot of fun and humor is to be found in the good old country tracks, but there is also an emotional side when you hear the ballads.

Brinsley Schwarz started back at the beginning of the 60s when Nick Lowe and Brinsley Schwarz met at school. The following years the definitive line-up was changing the style of the band from pop to folk and from psychedelic to rock. The band disbanded in 1975.

    A Hard Road

    Mono Edition

1967s A Hard Road proved to be every bit as powerful and innovative as its predecessor, thanks in large part to Mayalls discovery of Claptons equally brilliant replacement, Peter Green. A one-of-a-kind player with a highly distinctive sound, Green makes his instrumental presence felt throughout A Hard Road, while delivering compelling lead vocals on You Dont Love Me and The Same Way. With sterling support from bassist John McVie and drummer Aynsley Dunbar, the material here features such Mayall originals as Hit the Highway, Leaping Christine and the title track, along with standout interpretations of tunes by Freddie King, Elmore James and Willie Cobbs. The legendarily haunting Green-penned instrumental The Supernatural previews the guitarists groundbreaking work with the original incarnation of Fleetwood Mac, which he and fellow Bluesbreaker John McVie would form a few months later.

    The Glory Road

Her voice was all Saturday night, delivered on a Sunday
morning. Patsy on Jesus. Elvis without the pelvis. Fern
Jones' only album, released by Dot Records in 1959,
captured 36-year-old Sister Fern as she anointed
church music with the same untamed energy that
younger white Southerners were bringing to their rock
'n' roll. Produced by Mac Wiseman and showcasing crack
Nashville session players Hank "Sugarfoot" Garland,
Floyd Cramer, Joe Zinkan, and Buddy Harman fresh
off their June 1958 session with The Pelvis, Singing A
Happy Song should've taken Jones from dusty canvas
big tops to the Opry's storied stage. But with no 45 to
flog, Jones instead sold nary a record and never did hear
herself on the radio. Her fiery rockabilly gospel was a
few shades too radical for the conservative, traditional,
near puritanical public she played to anyway. Fern
Jones: The Glory Road collects her Singing A Happy
Song LP and cuts including "Didn't It Rain," from her
The Joneses Sing album, into one rousing package,
rich with the details and imagery of a brief career
spent tethered to the hard ground and gazing skyward.
The Glory Road'ssound gnaws at the bit and stands in
reverence, a runaway rockabilly tent show without a
single drop of rain on the horizon.

    Mad Max: Fury Road

    Import

From director George Miller, originator of the post-apocalyptic genre and mastermind behind the legendary Mad Max franchise, comes Mad Max: Fury Road, a return to the world of the Road Warrior, Max Rockatansky. An apocalyptic story set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and almost everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life.

Within this world exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order. There's Max, a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos. And Furiosa, a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.

The film's epic score is written by Tom Holkenborg, aka Junkie XL, a Grammy nominated and multi-Platinum producer, musician, and composer. Junkie XL's versatility puts him on the cutting edge of contemporary music, as well as in the vanguard of exciting new film composers. He is able to draw on his extensive knowledge of Classical forms and structures while keeping one finger planted firmly on the pulse of popular music. When this eclectic background is paired with his skill as a multi-instrumentalist (he plays keyboards, guitar, drums, violin, and bass) and mastery of studio technology, a portrait emerges of an artist for whom anything is possible.

    Walkin' This Road By Myself

Walkin' This Road By Myself was originally released in 1962.

Hopkins' style emanated from playing most of his life unaccompanied at his own insistence. His fingerstyle picking of playing alternating and monotonic bass, rhythm, lead, and percussion all the while improvising lyrics, even 'talking' his lyrics. He incorporated creative, chromatic turnarounds and single note lead lines. Tapping or slapping the body of his guitar adding his own percussive effects. While most of his songs are standard 12-bar blues, his phrasing was loose and free.

Hopkins is the embodiment of the jazz-and-poetry spirit, representing its ancient form in the single creator whose words and music are one act. - Robert Mack McCormick, Lightnin's producer in the '50s and Smithsonian musicologist

One of the great country blues and perhaps the greatest single influence on rock guitar players. - New York Times, January 31, 1982

    Make The Road By Walking

The Menahan Street Band is a collaboration of musicians from Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, El Michels Affair, Antibalas and the Budos Band, brought together by musician/producer Thomas Brenneck (Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Budos Band, Amy Winehouse) to record hits in the bedroom of his Menahan St. apartment in Bushwick, Brooklyn. With influences reaching beyond the funk/soul/afrobeat architecture of their own projects with the more ethereal realms of Curtis Mayfield and Mulatu Astatke, the Menahan Street Band creates a unique new instrumental soul sound that is as raw as it is lush.

With a global audience of 3 Billion, Bollywood's impact on world culture has long travelled worldwide. From the boutiques of Kensington to fashion houses in Paris, to basslines of Hip Hop anthems and plotlines of American sitcoms, Bollywood is fast becoming ubiquitous. The title 'Horn OK Please - Road to Bollywood' is perhaps India's most ever-present phrases. This grammatically erroneous phrase is commonly painted on trucks, buses or local taxis in India. The purpose of the phrase is to alert a driver of a vehicle approaching from behind to sound their horn in case they wish to overtake.

Life Is Good On The Open Road

Life Is Good On The Open Road is the welcome return that the group's legions of passionate fans have been waiting for. Led by the songwriting of lead singer Dave Simonett, the new songs touch on key elements from the entire spectrum of Trampled By Turtles body of work, while creating something that sounds fresh and invigorated. Simonett, and bandmates Erik Berry, Ryan Young, Dave Carroll, Tim Saxhaug and Eamonn McLain reunited at a cabin in the Minnesota woods to see if the special chemistry they once shared still existed. It did not take long for the magic to reveal itself with a renewed sense of purpose and the result shines brightly on Life Is Good On The Open Road.
