    Funeral

Funeral is the debut studio album by Canadian indie rock band Arcade Fire, originally released on September 14, 2004, in North America by Merge Records and on February 28, 2005, in Europe by Rough Trade Records. It was given its title because several band members had recently lost members of their families: RÉgine Chassagne's grandmother died in June 2003, Win and William Butler's grandfather (swing musician Alvino Rey) in February 2004, and Richard Reed Parry's aunt in April 2004.

Preliminary recordings for Funeral were made during the course of a week in August 2003 at the Hotel2Tango in Montreal, Quebec, and the recording was completed later that year all in an analog recording format.

The album produced five singles. The most successful, Rebellion (Lies), peaked at #19 on the UK Singles Chart. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2005 for Best Alternative Music Album. It received widespread critical acclaim and topped many year-end and decade-end lists. According to the website Metacritic, the album had the second most appearances on end-of-decade Top 10 lists, only behind Radiohead's Kid A.

    Funeral Sky

Funeral Sky is the stunning debut album from Reuben And The Dark, the harmonious collection of five multi-instrumentalists lead by Calgary's Reuben Bullock. This suite of eleven carefully crafted songs evokes the full spectrum of the group's uplifting folk and gripping soul, with depth and seamlessness that bely their youth. The dramatic Bow And Arrow flows into the summer tint of Devil's Time; the expanse between anthemic Rolling Stone and Marionette, with its stark beauty, showcases the effortless range of Reuben And The Dark, exploring the duality of misery and joy with introspective dirges and glinting, earthen atmosphere. Funeral Sky is produced by Christopher Lloyd Hayden (Florence & The Machine) and Stephen Kozmeniuk (Madonna, Nicki Minaj, The Game feat. Kanye West), and is mixed by Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Adele).

Remastered Reissue Of The Long Out-Of-Print Deathrock 7

Deluxe Gatefold Packaging Also Includes Guitarist Mark Ferelli's Horror Zine I...Paraworm

Part 1 formed in 1980 and were part of the original London anarcho-punk scene.
During the early 1980s they played a number of gigs, often with Rudimentary
Peni, who the band became associated with, as well as other acts operating
around the London Anarchy Centres funded by Crass' Bloody Revolutions 7. Part
1's final gig (before reforming in 2013) was at London's 100 Club in 1983 with
    Subhumans.

The band's only vinyl release during this time was the Funeral Parade EP, released
in a limited run of 300 in October 1982. As well as an anarcho-punk classic, the
record is now regarded as a seminal deathrock release - largely due to the dark,
heavily flanged guitar work, morbid imagery, and anti-religious lyrical themes.
Indeed, Part 1 have been described as "England's ultimate cult deathrock band."
    (CVLT Nation)

This very special reissue finally sees this lost classic receiving a long-deserved quality
release: A remastered 12 vinyl in a deluxe gatefold sleeve with accompanying
horror zine I...Paraworm, packed with never-seen text and unpublished artworks
from the pen of guitarist Mark Ferelli, all contemporaneous to the 1982 release.

In 2013, founding members Ferelli and Jake Baker (vocals), reformed the band
with long-time admirer Chris Low (ex-Apostles, Oi Polloi, Political Asylum)
on drums; later joined by David Barnett (ex-Adam & the Ants, Guernica, Lola
Colt) on bass. Their first reformation show was at the Rebellion Festival that
summer, 30 years after their last live performance. Since then, Part 1 have played
a number of gigs to great acclaim and enthusiastic response with further releases
    and concerts scheduled for 2015.

Marking 30 Years Of Peaceville Records & Darkthrone, 'Under A Funeral Moon' Is Presented On Special Limited Picture Disc Vinyl With Cut-Out Sleeve, Featuring Artwork From The Original Album

Under A Funeral Moon, Darkthrone's third album was originally released by Peaceville in 1993.

Marking 30 years of Peaceville Records & Darkthrone, Under A Funeral Moon is presented on special limited picture disc vinyl with cut-out sleeve, featuring artwork from the original album.

Under A Funeral Moon is a bleak reflection of contemporary times; featuring harsh guitar riffage and hateful vocals all underpinned by Fenriz's rightly celebrated tight and complex drum patterns. Continuing with its highly impressive series of black and white covers, the band further nurtures its lo-fi approach with a sound that is powerfully focused and entirely unconcerned with modern-day aesthetics. Under A Funeral Moon is the album that many Darkthrone fans hail as the ultimate manifesto for Black Metal.

All My Friends Are Funeral Singers

Califone's releases are full of layers and textures, offering endless depth, entire universes to lose yourself in, and beyond the thick spectrum of sound, they do something even more important: they write great songs that will stand the test of time. The band is at the peak of its powers on All My Friends Are Funeral Singers, its sixth song based album. The long-awaited follow-up to 2006's acclaimed Roots and Crowns, the album is the strongest collection of songs in a career with no shortage of strength. The subtlety and detail of Califone's previous work is present here; the atmospheres are carefully nuanced, the percussion is both rattling and melodic, and the melodies are rich and soulful.

All My Friends Are Funeral Singers is a dense collage of sounds, expertly formed into fully realized pop songs and it's the record that the great Roots and Crowns hinted at. The songwriting is fleshed out, the musical vision is boiling over, the sonic experimentation is indulgent and dense, yet there's a great cohesion, a sense of purpose and a newfound focus to this Califone effort. Never has the band felt so vibrant and so alive!

    Your Funeral...My Trial

Reduced to a quartet for the most part, with Barry Adamson joining Nick Cave, Blixa Bargeld, Mick Harvey and Thomas Wydler on only a couple of tracks, the Bad Seeds turn from the interpretive triumph of Kicking Against the Pricks to another strong high, the mostly-original Your Funeral...My Trial. The one cover is a sharp, unsurprisingly dramatic version of Tim Rose's Long Time Man. As for the rest of the album, Trial shows the Seeds working as, again, a remarkably accomplished and varied act, ever available and ready to explore a wide range of musics distilled into Cave's often dark, always passionate vision. Arguably Cave and company have by now so clearly established their overall style that Your Funeral...My Trial is much more a refinement of the past than anything else, but so good is their work that resistance is near impossible. If anything, the brooding power of the Seeds is more restrained than ever, suggesting destructive endings and overwhelming love without directly playing it. Songs like Jacks Shadow and the gentler but still melancholy moods of Sad Waters, detailing a riverside scene between a couple, are simply grand. The opening title track sets the mood well, Cave handling not merely vocals but Hammond organ, adding a strangely sweet air to the late-night atmosphere of the piece. The Carny is a definite highlight, the cracked music-box/carnival accompaniment courtesy of Harvey utterly appropriate for Cave's tale of a circus gone horribly wrong in ways Edward Gorey would appreciate. Hard On for Love, as the title pretty clearly gives away, is at once sensual and blunt right down to the lyrics, Biblical references and all, as the feverish music rises in a tide of emotion.

Attera Totus Sanctus (intended Latin translation of Destroy All the Holy) is Dark Funeral's 4th full length studio album. It was originally released on October 24, 2005 in Europe through Regain Records, and on November 29, 2005 in the United States through Candlelight Records USA. The title was chosen to convey the band's vehement anti-Right-Hand Path stance. This album also marked the cessation of vocalist Emperor Magus Caligula's role as a bassist for Dark Funeral - both studio and live.

    In The Sign

In the Sign is exhilarating and fairly inspired. This release is a reissue of Dark Funeral's self-titled debut EP of 1994, although Necropolis has provided new art work and added two bonus tracks. While Shadows Over Transylvania, Open the Gates, In the Sign of the Horns, and My Dark Desires originally came out in 1994, the bonus tracks Call From the Grave and Equimanthorn were recorded in 1996. In death metal/black metal circles, The Secrets of the Black Arts is generally regarded as Dark Funeral's most essential release, although In the Sign will interest the Swedes' hardcore cult followers.

    Vobiscum Satanas

Vobiscum Satanas is Dark Funeral's second full-length album.

This is black metal played in it's most extreme form. What else to say about this release of a pure holocaust! Featured here on this lineup is Emperor Magus Caligula on vocals/bass, Lord Ahriman on guitars, Typhos on guitars and Alzazmon on drums. They have gone through several lineup changes over the years but that hasn't stopped them from producing black metal to its mightiest extreme. It's a shame that this is only a little bit over 35 minutes in length.

The music itself features guitars playing at utterly spell bounding tempos most of the whole way through this release. Not too much variety there but that doesn't take away from the power the album exhibits. Also, the guitars on this release were tuned down to E-Flat which is the tuning they have always used since their first release The Secret Of The Black Arts. The blast beating drums is featured on this entire release except for a few slower tempos but not that many. Also, some drums that contain fast double bass but it isn't prevalent throughout this whole release. The guitars contain tremolo picking almost through every track. It doesn't really change much here because I think their focus was to pound out some seriously evil sounds. They succeeded too by using minor chord progressions all throughout the album! This is about as dark as it gets.

    If Then Not When

The ghost stories, murder ballads and grimoires on Louisville, KY's King's Daughters & Sons full-length album If Then Not When are haunting, spare and at times explosively unsettling; part William Faulkner, part Led Zeppelin. Informed by, but not beholden to the history of its members (Shipping News, Rachel's, The For Carnation, Shannon Wright), their songs are singular, thoughtful and best heard loud. If Then Not When was made direct to 2 tape in 2008 and 2009 at The Funeral Home by Kevin Ratterman, engineer for California Guitar Trio, My Morning Jacket and Wax Fang. "If it's possible to pick a "definitive" HIM album, Love Metal would certainly qualify. Recorded in the autumn of 2002 at Helsinki's Finnvox studios with producer/engineer Hiili Hiilesmaa behind the board, the album plays firmly to the band's strengths. Goth-flavored atmospherics? Meaty riffs? Expertly-crafted arrangements? Instantly-catchy choruses? Operatic despair? It's all here, most notably on the album's three classic singles: "Buried Alive By Love," which opens the proceedings with a roar, and proceeds to ratchet up the intensity from there, and "The Funeral of Hearts" and "The Sacrament," both of which beautifully pair Ville's lovelorn baritone with the band's innate ability to switch gears from delicate to muscular with the flick of a cigarette ash." - Dan Epstein

    Days Of Purgatory

Days of Purgatory is perhaps the best starting point for anyone first discovering Iced Earth, as it presents much of the band's early material with superior sound quality and musicianship, most notably from vocalist Matthew Barlow. All aspects of the band's songwriting are presented herein: energetic staccato riffing, dual-guitar harmonies, melodic acoustic passages, complex arrangements, and double kick drums. These are combined most effectively on Colors, Nightmares, When the Night Falls, and the outstanding Desert Rain, with its atmospheric guitar intro. And while Angel's Holocaust features uncharacteristic goth-style background choruses, The Funeral is surprisingly memorable as an instrumental. The band is at its inventive best in the nine-minute epic Travel in Stygian.

    House With A Curse

How much change is a band willing to endure in pursuit of a dream? In the case of Coliseum, as much as it takes. In the three years since their second album, No Salvation (their first and only for Relapse Records), the Louisville power trio have changed labels, producers, engineers, and replaced the frenetic breakneck speed of former drummer Chris Maggio with the emphatic rhythmic stomp of Carter Wilson, all in the service of producing the album they always dreamed of. That album is House With A Curse, their third full-length and first for Temporary Residence Ltd.

Produced by the band at The Funeral Home in Louisville and mixed by J. Robbins in Baltimore, House With A Curse features no less than a half dozen guests: Will Oldham (Bonnie Prince Billy), J. Robbins (Jawbox), Jason Noble (Shipping News, Rachel, Rodan), Peter Searcy (Squirrel Bait) and more all stopped by to add vocals, extra guitar, strings and whatever else a particular song might have called for. House is not just a new and exciting chapter in the Coliseum story, it's a celebration of the underground music community that inspired its very existence.

In And Out Of Youth And Lightness

Formed in 2006, Young Widows originally drew favorable comparisons to the '90s heyday of cacophonous noise-rock. Five years and three albums later, In and Out of Youth and Lightness finds the band digging much deeper and further back for inspiration. With their sprawling post-punk blasts shining cracks of lights through pitch black neo-noir fever dreams, Young Widows have clearly become a more sinister and thought-provoking beast.

In And Out Of Youth and Lightness was produced by the band and Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket) at The Funeral Home in their hometown of Louisville, KY. The musical palette remains fundamentally the same; singer/guitarist Evan Patterson's cavernous, warped blues riffs weighted by Nick Thieneman's earth-shaking bass and drummer Jeremy McMonigle's sturdy, shifting rhythms, but the augmented instrumentation and choral vocals lifts them to incredible new heights. With lyrical themes of emotional despair and domestic dissolution leading to inevitable catharsis, In And Out Of Youth and Lightness finds Patterson rising from his personal hell with a level of wisdom and maturity that most aggressive bands will never know.

With a depth and ambition well beyond their years, Young Widows have stepped out of the shadows of their influences to become one of America's more interesting and spirited underground rock bands.

"I'm starting to think that the only way Black Clouds would fail us is if they
simply decided not to show up." -Brightest Young Things

The final minutes of Black Clouds' debut album did not have a happy
ending: In a spoken word coda, Clutch's Neil Fallon repeatedly informs the
listener that "everything is not going to be OK," and despite the fact this
had already been well communicated by the album itself, this was the first
time that language had been used to articulate its quasi-nihilism. For these
Washington D.C. post-rock and metal experimentalists, it was a rare, but
    vivid show-me-and-tell-me moment.

Which is to say that Dreamcation, Black Clouds' sophomore effort and Collect
Records debut, is a significantly different kind of record. That sense of doom,
once mined for its power, is more effectively harnessed for a nuanced energy-
the darkness curbed just enough to let the light in-and the result is alternately
aggressive and ambient, often in the same song, and sometimes in the same
part: "Carcosa," for one, takes equal cues from funeral and ascension, and
"Some Of Us Are Meant To Disappear" somehow pummels you into a warm
hug. A smart and measured progression, Black Clouds finds itself at their most
introspective on Dreamcation, and if this album's finalÉ eschews language
altogether for a wash of subtle chords and a blissfully ecstatic drone, it's only
because-perhaps-everything is going to be OK after all.

    Duskland

"He dwells in the same darkness as Cass McCombs, punctuating the cobwebbed stillness with lowing organ and severe, almost pagan imagery. The Crimson moon, the city of refuge: Thesewould be hapless signi ers in
another singer's mouth. Cale's drawl molds them back into tremendous fra gments, oating in a skyline somewhere just beyond the dusk. All of Duskland possesses that same fantastic self-assurance." -Stereogum

Zachary Cale has been releasing records under his own name for just shy of a decade. Duskland,
the title of his latest record, is a work of craftsmanship full of elegant lyricism and mysterious
imagery; a collection of songs that look directly into the face of darkness yet drive beyond it,
    forging new paths.

Allegorical in nature, Cale's songs move away from the inward reveries of his last album, Blue Rider,
and divide outward into the voices of others. The album projects images of wide-open spaces and
landscapes constructed from half remembered dreams. There isn't always a clear resolution, characters
remain in a state of twilight, wandering from place to place in search of an undefined illumination. The
lyric: So many lifetimes I lived in one / I've got to bury them now / No surprises this time around /
Not beneath this crown, taken from I Left The Old Cell, aptly captures the human complexities found
    throughout the songs.

Taking cues from artists like Oh Mercy/Time Out of Mind era Dylan and Nick Cave's work with the
Bad Seeds, Duskland evokes a restless spirit, one that is informed by American myths and tall tales.
There's a Western flair to many of the album's songs with nods to soundtrack composers such as
Morricone and the dream-laden noir of Badalamenti. Many of the album's highlights maintain a
ceremonial grace. Sundowner opens the album with a lush organ progression played over a
plaintive march. As the tension builds, Cale muses Branded as a fugitive / Dressed in the clothes
of an innocent / Sirens ricochet / From bloodless lips I hear them call my name. From there the
album moves forward like one long processional; Cale leads his band through up-tempo folk rock
and charming country waltzes to minor key dirges and atmospheric instrumentals until ending with a
horn section dragging over a funeral beat in the long form ballad Low Light Serenade.

Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus (Pure Pleasure)

Charles Mingus has a fascinating way of offering music that is grounded in tradition while remaining startlingly original. The freshness of a piece like Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus, has the effect of rendering much of what passes for jazz as tedious. The band is small for Mingus, and includes Eric Dolphy on alto saxophone and bass clarinet, Ted Curson on trumpet, and Dannie Richmond on drums. It would be one of Dolphy and Curson's last recording dates with the artist, and they seem determined to go all out for it. The leader's bass line kicks off Folk Forms No. 1, followed by Dolphy outlining the melody, and then joined by Curson. A simple riff develops into a lively New Orleans funeral march that's developed for 12 minutes. Original Faubus Fables is serious in intent - a political attack on segregation governor Faubus - but Mingus and Richmond's singing is difficult to listen to with a straight face. Still, this doesn't distract from the wonderful music. Again and again, the elasticity of the sound is fascinating, at once spacious with the bass and drums balanced against the brass and then noisy, with the horns wailing and crying. The last two pieces, What Love? and the outrageously titled All the Things You Could Be by Now if Sigmund Freud's Wife Was Your Mother, are much looser, bordering on free jazz. The album accomplishes what the best of Mingus accomplishes: the perfect tension between jazz played as an ensemble and jazz played as totally free.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.
