Experimental Art/Rock Group From New York, Tracks Selection Include I'm Waiting For The Man, Venus In Furs, Heroin And More Classics
An album by The Velvet Underground needs to be in the collection of every legitimate music lover. Those who do not yet have an album from this legendary group can now fill this gap by purchasing the new Collected.
The band, with artistic exponents of text and music writers Lou Reed and John Cale, influenced generations of rock musicians and groups. Certainly, in the 70s and early 80s the cult status of this group, briefly managed by Andy Warhol, reached extraordinary proportions. The Velvet Underground was already a real punk band ten years before the rise of this music genre. This was reflected in their lifestyle, drug use and attitude. Musically, however, you can hardly compare them with punk music. With songs like Heroin, I'm Waiting For The Man and White Light / White Heat, they released a new definition of rock and roll.
The Collected compilation consists of 2 LPs with a total of 23 songs. One of the above-mentioned classics is I'm Waiting For The Man, in which the protagonist's addiction forces him to wait for his dealer with his twenty-six dollars in hand, a number that expresses an addict in an unprecedented direct and realistic way. The chaotic and sometimes atonal music confirm the grim narrative. In addition, we will find What Goes On, Pale Blue Eyes, Venus In Furs and many more songs from the pivotal band.LP 1

Songs From The Garage (Pink Vinyl)Pink Colored Vinyl

Guitars And Production Duties Handled By Rob Caggiano (Anthrax, Volbeat, Bleeding Through, Cradle Of Filth And More)
Whether it's Spinal Tap gloriously losing the plot, the escapades of Tenacious D getting them into trouble, or the phenomenon that is Dethklok tearing up the album charts, comedy and heavy music have long made for great bedfellows. Jim Breuer is a man who understands this, and with Songs From The Garage, his first full-length with longtime backing band The Regulators, he delivers both in his inimitable style. "I basically want the crowd to have a blast, and I write what I feel that I would love if I was in the crowd. So, going into the record the music had to be killer and have great hooks, that was most important, and I wanted to balance that with something that's funny," he enthuses. "I wanted to bring the smile back to hard rock that has a nice punch to it - and in doing so hopefully bridge the gap so my generation and their kids will come see this live together!"
In realizing this, Breuer has delivered a record that is pure, unadulterated fun, and yes, it rocks. From crunchy opening romp "Thrash" through the swaggering "Who Better Than Us?" to the gloriously deranged excitement suffusing "Sugar Rush", his exuberance is infectious, and he challenges you to keep your ass from shaking and the corners of your mouth twitching while it thunders from the speakers. Throughout, his influences bleed through, comfortably blurring the line between hard rock and metal while every anthemic chorus lodges irrevocably in the hippocampus. While a great many 'comedy rock' records are ultimately pretty throwaway and last as long as the joke stays funny, this is not the case with Songs From The Garage. True to his game plan, Breuer has made great songs, ones that persistently draw a smile and will fit comfortably when shuffled among the likes of Megadeth, AC/DC, Judas Priest and more contemporary bands, such as Avenged Sevenfold and Halestorm.
Having finally made the album that has been burning to get out of him since his teens, Breuer couldn't be happier with the result. Though he has fulfilled one rock and roll dream with its completion, it certainly does not mean he's about to kick back and leave it at that. "I plan on making great, funny videos for every song and have videos up during the concerts. I want pure entertainment when you come see this live, and now my rock and roll dream is to play this not only here in America, but anywhere else in the world that will accept it! I'm taking it one day at a time, living the dream."1. Thrash

Fear Not For ManFear Not For Man was one of the first albums to be released by Fela following the sacking of his Kalakuta Republic compound by 1,000 soldiers on 18 February 1977. Fela, along with many other Kalakuta residents, was brutally beaten; his mother, then aged 77, was thrown out of a window, fracturing a leg.
The army set fire to the compound, destroying six Afrika 70 vehicles, all Fela's master tapes and band equipment, a four-track recording studio, and all the community members' personal belongings. It is doubtful, contrary to some sources, Fear Not For Man was recorded after the attack - doubt which is dispelled by neither the gruesome front sleeve design, showing blood flowing down Fela's face.
His response came later, on albums such as Unknown Soldier (1979) and Coffin For Head Of State (1980); Fela's practice of no longer performing a song live once he had released it on record is the reason for the two/three year gap between the attack and the release of these albums.1. Def LeppardDef Leppard is the 11th studio album by British rock band Def Leppard. It's the band's first release since Songs from the Sparkle Lounge (2008), marking the longest gap between studio albums in their career. The 14-track album not only nods to their history, but it hints at their future. According to vocalist Joe Elliott, ''The name itself sums everything up. It's a misspelled nonsensical mad-looking two words.'' This is Def Leppard in 2015. This is rock 'n' roll. Let's go.
First-rate melodic pop-metal. Def Leppard tracks like Let's Go,...All Time High and Broke 'n' Brokenhearted exude the band's classic mix of Seventies pomp-glam riffing, Eighties electro-shock rhythms and patented, tremendously stacked chorus vocal harmonies in a manner that's strikingly redolent of their past. But the album also finds the band moving beyond well-trod territory, as evidenced by the slinky pop-funk strut of Man Enough, the downtuned, acoustic psych-blues of Battle of My Own and the sleek New Wave isms of Invincible. - Rolling Stone1. 'Sgt. Pepper' Presented with New Mixes in Stereo and 5.1 Surround Audio; Expanded with Previously Unreleased Session Recordings, Video Features & Special Packaging
Previously Unreleased 1992 Documentary Film, 'The Making of Sgt. Pepper,' Restored for Anniversary Edition's Super Deluxe Boxed Set
Ranked 1/500 On Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time!
It was 50 years ago this June 1st when The Beatles' John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr astonished and delighted the world, ushering in the Summer of Love with Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, a groundbreaking masterwork that became popular music's most universally acclaimed album. To salute the occasion, The Beatles will release a lavishly presented 'Sgt. Pepper' Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition Box Set (4 CD/1 DVD/1 Blu-ray). The album is newly mixed by Giles Martin and Sam Okell in stereo and 5.1 surround audio and expanded with early takes from the studio sessions, including no fewer than 34 previously unreleased recordings.
"It's crazy to think that 50 years later we are looking back on this project with such fondness and a little bit of amazement at how four guys, a great producer and his engineers could make such a lasting piece of art," says Paul McCartney in his newly-penned introduction for the 'Sgt. Pepper' Anniversary Edition.
"'Sgt. Pepper' seemed to capture the mood of that year, and it also allowed a lot of other people to kick off from there and to really go for it," Ringo Starr recalls in the Anniversary Edition's book.
The Beatles' "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane," were among the first songs recorded during the 'Sgt. Pepper' sessions, which began in November 1966. Rather than being held for inclusion on the album, the two songs were released as a double A-sided single in February 1967. Amidst intense media speculation about the band's next move, the single bridged what was then considered a long gap between the Revolver album, released in August 1966, and 'Sgt. Pepper,' which followed 10 months later.
This is the first time Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band has been remixed and presented with additional session recordings, and it is the first Beatles album to be remixed and expanded since the 2003 release of Let It Be Naked. To create the new stereo and 5.1 surround audio mixes for 'Sgt. Pepper,' producer Giles Martin and mix engineer Sam Okell worked with an expert team of engineers and audio restoration specialists at Abbey Road Studios in London. All of the Anniversary Edition releases include Martin's new stereo mix of the album, which was sourced directly from the original four-track session tapes and guided by the original, Beatles-preferred mono mix produced by his father, George Martin.
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition includes:
- CD 1: New stereo album mix
- CDs 2 & 3:
- 33 additional recordings from the studio sessions, most previously unreleased and mixed for the first time from the four-track session tapes, sequenced in chronological order of their recording dates
- A new stereo mix of "Penny Lane" and the 2015 stereo mix of "Strawberry Fields Forever"
- CD 4:
- Direct transfers of the album's original mono mix and the "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane" singles
- Capitol Records' U.S. promotional mono single mix of "Penny Lane"
- Previously unreleased early mono mixes of "She's Leaving Home," "A Day In The Life," and "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" (a mix thought to have been erased from a tape in 1967, but discovered during archive research for the anniversary edition)
- Discs 5 & 6 (Blu-ray and DVD):
- New 5.1 surround audio mixes of the album and "Penny Lane" by Giles Martin and Sam Okell, plus their 2015 5.1 surround mix of "Strawberry Fields Forever"
- High resolution audio versions of the new stereo mixes of the album and "Penny Lane" and of the 2015 stereo mix of "Strawberry Fields Forever"
- Video features: 4K restored original promotional films for "Strawberry Fields Forever," "Penny Lane," and "A Day In The Life;" plus The Making of Sgt. Pepper, a restored, previously unreleased documentary film (broadcast in 1992), featuring insightful interviews with McCartney, Harrison, and Starr, and in-studio footage introduced by George Martin.
"A splendid time is guaranteed for all"
The album's vibrant artwork, including its extravagant Pop Art cover which finds The Beatles surrounded by a crowd of heroes in a 3D collage, was created by Peter Blake and Jann Haworth in collaboration with the band. The original artwork is showcased across the suite of Anniversary Edition releases, including the album's pull-out sheet of 'Sgt. Pepper' cutouts. Housed in a 12-inch by 12-inch box with lenticular artwork and two bonus posters, the six-disc Super Deluxe set is presented with a 144-page hardcover book. The book includes new introductions by Paul McCartney and Giles Martin, and chapters covering comprehensive song-by-song details and recording information, the design of the cover, the album's musical innovations and its historical context by Beatles historian, author and radio producer Kevin Howlett; composer and musicologist Howard Goodall; music producer and writer Joe Boyd; and journalists Ed Vulliamy and Jeff Slate, illustrated with rare photographs, reproductions of handwritten lyrics, Abbey Road Studios documentation, and original 'Sgt. Pepper' print ads.
- "We hope you will enjoy the show"
Just as many ideas are sparked by chance, 'Sgt. Pepper' first sprang from a conversation between Paul and Beatles roadie Mal Evans on an airplane, when Mal's request to pass the salt and pepper was misheard by Paul as "Sgt. Pepper." The concept of who such a figure could be took root in Paul's mind, blooming with the imagination of The Beatles as an Edwardian era military band -- "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." The Beatles' creative wellspring for 'Sgt. Pepper' also flowed from such myriad sources as The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds album, a Victorian circus poster ("Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!"), a TV commercial for breakfast cereal ("Good Morning Good Morning"), a picture drawn by John's young son, Julian ("Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds"), a teen runaway reported in the news ("She's Leaving Home'), and Hindu teachings ("Within You Without You").
"Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song"
Using the standard four-track tape recording equipment of the day, The Beatles collaborated with producer George Martin to achieve "the impossible," as they dubbed it, to go as far out as they could with arrangements and new technology to realize their collective vision for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. As George Martin described it, "We were into another kind of art form where you were putting something down on tape that could only be done on tape." The Beatles clocked more than 400 hours in Abbey Road's Studio 2 to record the album, wrapping sessions in April 1967.
"I read the news today oh boy"
Upon its release on June 1, 1967, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band initially spent 148 weeks in the British chart, including a total of 27 weeks at number one. During its first U.S. chart run, the album held the number one spot for 15 of the 88 weeks it appeared in the Top 200. 'Sgt. Pepper' won four GRAMMY Awards®, including Album of the Year, and it remains one of the most influential and bestselling albums of all time. In 2003, the U.S. Library of Congress selected 'Sgt. Pepper' for the National Recording Registry, recognizing the album as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." 'Sgt. Pepper' tops Rolling Stone magazine's definitive list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time."CD 1: 'Sgt. Pepper' 2017 Stereo Mix

Down II: A Bustle in Your HedgerowThis was Down's first album in seven years since the release of NOLA, the longest gap between the band's Four studio albums to date. Since Down was a supergroup, the band went on hiatus in 1996 so that members could focus on their main bands (namely Eyehategod, Corrosion of Conformity, Crowbar and Pantera). Down reformed in 1999 with Pantera bassist Rex Brown replacing Todd Strange. The band wanted the album to have a bluesy feel, so they moved into Phil Anselmo's barn, dubbed Nödferatu's Lair, in southern Louisiana where they lived and recorded the album in 28 days without anyone leaving the house.LP1

Freaking Out EPFor Toro Y Mois Chaz Bundick, 2011 has seen the release of his acclaimed sophomore album, Underneath the Pine, remix work for Tyler, the Creator, a split 7 with Cloud Nothings, and a steady stream of international tour dates. Just over halfway through whats already been a busy year, the prolific producer has a brand new batch of lavishly funky material to offer.
Bundicks latest is no sloppily assembled bunch of Pine session throwaways. The Freaking Out EP was put to tape in June during a period of touring quiescence. The release finds Bundick reveling in twenty minutes of boogie, roping in the heavy sounds of groups like the Gap Band and Mtume. While the first two tracks are modern takes on the '80s post-disco vibe, Sweet sounds like the product of a Todd Edwards and Teddy Riley collaboration, with smooth synths weaving in and out of meticulously chopped and arranged vocal samples.
The New Jack influence spills over into the cover of Cherrelle and Alexander ONeills Saturday Love, in which a swingbeat carries along fluttering piano lines steeped in delay. The EPs crown jewel, I Can Get Love, sees Bundick assimilating styles of each of his to-date releases, with the synthesized funk of Causers of This, the irresistible hooks of Underneath the Pine, and dance alias Les Sins penchant for filter effects and house beats. Full of energy and crafted with a conciseness that begs repeated listens, Freaking Out is Toro Y Mois most concentrated venture into pure dance floor hedonism.1. All Alone

The 4th album of Hole was a huge commercial achievement, successfully bridging the gap between Grunge and guitar Pop. The band revolving around Kurt Cobain's widow Courtney Love carved a niche for themselves as the seminal female fronted Grunge group. Established in 1991, the band functioned as a cathartic outlet for enfant terrible Love, which makes their work incredibly compelling. Their 1998 album Celebrity Skin revealed a polished, energetic sound. NeighborhoodsNeighborhoods is the sixth studio album by the American rock band Blink-182, originally released September 27, 2011 through DGC Records and Interscope Records. Their first album of new material in eight years (the longest gap between albums to date), its recording followed the band's breakup and later reconciliation. Due to conflicts within the trio, the band entered an indefinite hiatus in 2005 and the members explored various side-projects. After two separate tragedies regarding the band and their entourage, the members of the band decided to reunite in late 2008, with plans for a new album and tour. It is the first Blink-182 album produced by the band members without the help of an outside record producer, as well as the final album with Tom DeLonge before his departure in 2015.LP 1

SubordinationSince their first demo in 2013, the Austin expats in Institute have edged their raw
anarcho-punk blitz into something much more expansive and nuanced. 2014's
Salt EP marked the beginning of the band's working relationship with Sacred
Bones, and it explored longer, more experimental song forms. Catharsis, the
band's debut full-length, was another huge push forward, with a slightly cleaner
production and some krautrock influence creeping in around the edges. Subordination
sees them push themselves further out of genre, incorporating hard rock
and glam and writing some of the most diverse material of their career.
Subordination was written in the days leading up to Institute's first European
tour, where they then had a chance to sculpt the songs live before recording them
in summer of 2016. The songwriting and recording process sought to close the
gap between the band's records and shows, to make an album as representative of
their live set as possible. It was the most collaborative Institute writing session to
date, with all four band members contributing (gtr -Arak Avakian, drums - Barry
Elkanick, bass- Adam Cahoon & vox - Moses Brown). They worked again with
producer Ben Greenberg (Uniform) and fully captured the intensity that has
made them one of the best live punk bands touring today.
Frontman Moses Brown's lyrics remain deeply personal, but rather than diving
into introspection and plucking out intimate details about his life, he attempts to
dismantle systems of patriarchal thought and power. Brown investigates national
insecurities and American socialization failures through the lens of his personal
experiences in both public school and art schools.
The songs on Subordination address the lonely sham of playing by the rules, the
search for money and power, the annihilation of a true personality, and the standards
of normalcy that, from childhood, condition us to feel abject.1. Exhibitionism

MottRanked 366/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
After their 1972 breakthrough album & hitsingle All The Young Dudes, Mott The Hoople released their Mott album.
The single 'All the Way from Memphis' received considerable airplay on U.S. radio and the LP became the band's best seller to date in the U.S. Using the glam rock craze as their launch pad, the band straddled the widening gap between the teen-pop market and the college circuit. The LP Mott climbed into the Top 10 of the UK Albums Chart.
By the time Mott was released it was clear that Ian Hunter had become the dominant figure of the band. Aside from the lead track, the album includes introspective songs such as Ballad of Mott The Hoople, which exposes Mott's near break-up, and the peculiar I Wish I Was Your Mother, featuring multi-tracked mandolin, in which Hunter sings of his wish to see his love as a child. Hard rockers are given their due with 'Whizz Kid', 'Drivin' Sister', 'Violence' and 'Honaloochie Boogie'. A fine performance is delivered by Hunter in the almost religious 'Hymn for the Dudes'.
In 2003, the album was ranked number 366 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.1. All The Way From Memphis

Teeth DreamsIn 2014, the Hold Steady release their sixth LP Teeth Dreams, nearly four years after the Brooklyn band's previous full-length album, 2010's Heaven Is Whenever. It's the longest gap between albums in the rock band's decade-plus career. [The recording process] may have dragged out a bit this time, singer Craig Finn tells Rolling Stone. But I think it's all for the best.
Teeth Dreams was recorded over the past two years in Brooklyn and Franklin, Tenn. and marks a new beginning for the Hold Steady: it's their first album recorded with longtime touring guitarist Steve Selvidge, who joined the band on the road following the 2010 departure of multi-instrumentalist Franz Nicolay. It was exciting again, says guitarist Tad Kubler. There was a newness to this album that I hadn't felt in awhile.
The new tracks find the band leaning heavy on distortion and snaking guitar licks - Finn's favorite of the batch is On With the Business, a pummeling blast of electric guitar and vocal delay that finds the notoriously sharp-eyed vocalist appraising a city heavy on weak handshakes and beautiful kitchens. On The Ambassador, one of the album's rare moments of serenity, Finn's details a temporary holding cell of a shack-up in Michigan with hot and glistening nights and halls that smelled like burning hair. And the band's first single, I Hope This Whole Thing Didn't Frighten You (streaming below) is a barreling Foo Fighters-style melodic rocker, with rapid-fire vocals spilling from Finn as drummer Bobby Drake swings beneath.
He says the band has drummed up their biggest-sounding, most rock-oriented album to date. We were looking to make a big rock record, he admits. Maybe it's less wild but in some ways that makes it a bigger record."

Wooden Shjips' rise to prominence from the psychedelic underground to the rock and roll overground has been a steady sojourn. With each consecutive release, the band has found new ways of transforming heady psychedelic rock into minimalist masterpieces, bridging the gap between the woozy freeness of Les Rallizes Denudes and Crazy Horse and the tightly wound simplicity of Suicide and the Velvet Underground.1. Raise The KidsIn today's music scene, originality doesn't always seem to be the leading force. In fact, some might argue that many of the most successful current bands are simply breathing new life into the aesthetics of decades past. So when a band surfaces defying easy classification, their existence becomes a noteworthy matter. Brooklyn, New York's UnWed are just such a band. Although their members have made names for themselves for nearly 20 years in other musical endeavors (Hot Water Music, Small Brown Bike, Primitive Weapons, Gay For Johnny Depp, Errortype:11, etc), UnWed reaches far beyond anything in their combined history. Instead, the band bring their punk and indie roots to the table, amalgamating these influences with more traditionally heavy rock elements to create their unique sound. Add to the mix vocals provided by their powerful female singer and the overall result is undeniably interesting.
Following the release of their debut EP via No Idea Records, UnWed set out to write and record their first proper full length. The quintet teamed with an accomplished group of engineers, including Paul Leavitt, Ryan Jones, Brian McTernan, Will Beasley, and Travis Bacon, each with considerable resumes of their own. The end result, entitled Raise The Kids, captures a band bridging the gaps between hard rock, anthemic punk, and alternative with splendid precision.1. You'll Burn

WARB-ATL-0825xPortugal The Man
WoodstockWell, we're two full months into 2017 and the world continues to burn like an avalanche of flaming biohazard material sliding down a mountain of used needles into a canyon full of rat feces. But hey, it's not all bad: Portugal. The Man has a new album coming out called Woodstock.
PTM's last album came out over three years ago-a long gap for a band who've dropped roughly an album a year since 2006. And in true, prolific band fashion, they've spent almost every minute since 2013 working on an album called Gloomin + Doomin. They created a shit-ton of individual songs, but as a whole, none of them hung together in a way that felt right. Then John Gourley, PTM's lead singer, made a trip home to Wasilla, Alaska, (Home of Portugal. The Man's biggest fan, Sarah Palin) and two things happened that completely changed the album's trajectory.
First, John got some parental tough love from his old man, who called John on the proverbial carpet or dogsled or whatever you put people on when you want to yell at them in Alaska. What's taking so long to finish the album? John's dad said. Isn't that what bands do? Write songs and then put them out? Like fathers and unlicensed therapists tend to do, John's dad cut him deep. The whole thing started John thinking about why the band seemed to be stuck on a musical elliptical machine from hell and, more importantly, about how to get off of it.
Second, fate stuck its wiener in John's ear again when he found his dad's ticket stub from the original 1969 Woodstock music festival. It seems like a small thing, but talking to his dad about Woodstock '69 knocked something loose in John's head. He realized that, in the same tradition of bands from that era, Portugal. The Man needed to speak out about the world crumbling around them. With these two ideas converging, the band made a seemingly bat-shit-crazy decision: they took all of the work they had done for the three years prior and they threw it out.
It wasn't easy and there was the constant threat that the band's record label might have them killed, but the totally insane decision paid off. With new, full-on, musical boners, the band went back to the studio-working with John Hill (In The Mountain In The Cloud), Danger Mouse (Evil Friends), Mike D (Everything Cool), and longtime collaborator Casey Bates (The one consistent producer since the first record). In this new-found creative territory, the album that became Woodstock rolled out naturally from there
Remember that mountain of burning needles we were talking about? Good. Because Woodstock is an album (Including the new single Feel It Still) that-with optimism and heart-points at the giant pile and says, Hey, this pile is fucked up! And if you think that pile is fucked up too, you owe it to yourself-hell, to all of us-to get out there and do something about it.1. Number One

Magic Windows, Magic NightsThe recording sessions with Guided By Voices producer, Todd Tobias, lasting less than two weeks in the freezing Northeast Ohio cold, showed the band's ability to work at a breakneck pace with pinpoint accuracy and culminated in the fifteen-song monolith release Magic Windows, Magic Night. Blending lo-fi cassette performances, urban NYC field recordings and tape samples with baroque orchestration and Tobias' high-fi analog indie production, Magic Windows, Magic Nights clamors with the noise of a band firing on all cylinders. Five's melodic songwriting often veers from languid to raging, and eclipses the band's 2008 Cassette debut, with tightened Mascis-style guitar melodies and Brian Wilson-style pop concision, while the gunfire drumming of Sustarsic and polytoned sub-frequencies of Shue coalese into a heavy slamming machine. Magic Windows, Magic Nights showcases a band who know the meaning of impermanence and transition, and know how to bridge the gap between oblivion and survival.1. The Stone Statue II

Ode To SunshineThe rousing debut of this San Diego quintet impresses mightily. Delta Spirit's rough barroom pop is its own creature, with jangly pianos, rattling drums, and scruffy acousic guitars making a thrilling ruckus. - Spin
"Ode To Sunshine is brimming with gritty, staggering soul that floods the gap between
the Stones' R&B-inflected early oeuvre and Cold War Kids' world-weary keening."
- The Onion AV Club
Classic-era Rolling Stones. An amplified, rocking version of `60s protest folk. The
raw spirit of indie rock. All of these comparisons have been made in attempts to
describe Delta Spirit, the southern California 5-piece who might just be one
of the most important new bands of the decade.
Ode To Sunshine was originally released by Rounder records in 2008 and exemplified
the band's forward thinking and genre-bending music. Considered a hallmark
of the band's catalog, Dualtone is now re-releasing Ode on vinyl (and on

Range AnxietyFormed in Melbourne in late 2008, Twerps enjoyed immediate success, releasing a series of vinyl singles and cassettes on various labels around the world. Their 2011 self-titled debut album was recorded with producer Jack Farley at Head Gap, marking the band's first foray into a "bona fide" recording studio. The release of Twerps led to appearances at SXSW and CMJ and tours with Real Estate, Mac DeMarco, and others. Not wanting to wait until 2015 to unleash new songs on present and future fans, Twerps quickly recorded the delightful Underlay EP, which Pitchfork described as "songs fraught with universal, emotionally familiar sentiments."
And now, Merge brings you Twerps' second full-length album, Range Anxiety. Also recorded with Jack Farley, its title refers to a debilitating fear of running out of gas-both literally and metaphysically. As singer-guitarist Julia McFarlane explains, "The title Range Anxiety is both descriptive and comic. The album at times feels like it was built on uncertainties; some purely practical and some emotional obstacles were present around the start of writing."
Twerps are a very collaborative band, with most songs being written in rehearsal rooms. "Obviously, we write the lyrics separately, but the band is best when everyone is being creative," muses Julia. "Rick and Alex are big voices in the stylistic direction of the band. Rick is a genuinely curious mind and also a vast library of musical reference. As a graphic designer, he has a much more sophisticated ability to interpret and articulate ideas than most people I know, and he has introduced Martin and me to some of Twerps' most coveted influences. Bringing Alex to the band also meant introducing another songwriter. He probably has made ten more records than us collectively and has been a real burst of energy in the band due to his militant
work ethic and enthusiasm for productivity."
Range Anxiety is a worthy showcase of the creativity and vitality Twerps bring to their music. At first listen, nods to The Go-Betweens and the band's beloved Flying Nun influences are clear, but upon closer examination, Twerps expand into a sound uniquely their own.
Twerps are Martin Frawley (guitar, vocals); Rick Milovanovic (bass, vocals, synthesizer); Alex Macfarlane (drums, guitar, vocals); and Julia McFarlane (guitar, vocals, keyboards).1. House Keys

The Sky As Well As SpaceWe last heard from the boys in Memory Map with the release of their 2011 debut LP
"Holiday Band". We couldn't be more excited to see them return with the release of
their sophomore album "The Sky As Well As Space."
With "The Sky as Well as Space", Memory Map continue to esh out their uniquely
guitar-driven blend of indie pop. Few bands straddle song-craft and technical prowess
as eortlessly as Memory Map. Using three guitars (one which cheats its way into
acting as a bass), a three-piece drum kit, and vocals from all four members, Memory
Map organically fuse cascading guitar lines, complex rhythms, and layered vocal
harmonies into shamelessly accessible guitar pop.
In the three years since their debut, Memory Map have gained depth both in
composition and production. The album simultaneously showcases the band at their
most catchy ("Magnetic Center"), menacing ("Dark Freshman"), and emotional
("Order In the Waves", "Antelope Earth").
Why the three-year gap between albums you ask? Well, the delay is largely due to the
popularity of a certain cat. Band member Mike Bridavsky owns and takes care of the
most famous cat on the planet, Lil BUB. And because Memory Map have been so
exible in working around Lil BUB's schedule, the band is ofcially BUB approved.1. The Celebrated Summer

Lo Moon is the highly anticipated self-titled debut album from this Los Angeles, California based indie rock band. The band consists of principle songwriter Matt Lowell (lead vocal, guitar and keyboard), Crisanta Baker (bass guitar, keyboard and backing vocals), and Samuel Stewart (guitar, keyboard and backing vocals). The album is produced by Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie) and Francois Tetaz (Gotye), and includes the previously released songs Loveless, This Is It, and Thorns.
The band formed in Los Angeles after coming from different corners of the earth. Singer/guitarist Matt Lowell is from Long Island, New York, bassist Crisanta Baker from Denver, Colorado, and guitarist Samuel Stewart from London, England, and the band has been building their story since 2014. Their songs have been highly praised in the music press. And this debut album, Lo Moon is a dark, luscious collection of songs full of crescendo rock and sparkling electronics. The songs bridge a gap between soft experimental rock and atmospheric electronic pop. The record is a cool, dark, meditative exploration of bittersweet sadness and cathartic joy.LP 1

Dr. Byrds & Mr. HydeA key transitional touchstone in The Byrds' fabled canon, 1969's Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde
was the next stop in the band's pioneering country-rock trajectory and the first album by
the post-Gram Parsons lineup. With leader Roger McGuinn at the helm of a stellar new
edition of the band featuring guitar god Clarence White, drummer Gene Parsons, and
bassist John York, Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde sees The Byrds bridging the gap between the
psychedelic flights of the group's mid-'60s albums and the down-home, country-based
style developed only months earlier with Sweetheart of the Rodeo.
In addition to containing strong McGuinn originals (King Apathy III, Old Blue),
more of the band's beloved interpretations of Bob Dylan classics (This Wheel's on Fire
and a medley blending The Bard's My Back Pages' with Jimmy Reed's Baby, What You
Want Me to Do), and even a Gram Parsons collaboration (the bemusing Drug Store
Truck Drivin' Man, which cleverly celebrates The Byrds' love of country music while
simultaneously taking a dig at small-minded rednecks), Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde also boasts
two tracks composed by McGuinn for the obscure, racy '60s cult movie Candy.
