Strange Little Birds
Etched D Side
Garbage have announced their sixth studio album and self-produced follow-up to 2012's Not Your Kind of People, Strange Little Birds.
In a press release, frontwoman Shirley Manson described the album's overlying principle as keeping it fresh, and relying on instinct both lyrically and musically. She also compared it to their 1995 self-titled debut, which the group reissued and took on tour for its twentieth anniversary last year. To me, this record, funnily enough, has the most to do with the first record than any of the previous records, she explained. It's getting back to that beginner's headspace.--PitchforkLP 1

New Wave (Colored Vinyl) (Awaiting Repress)Limited to 1,000 Yellow and Black Split Colored Vinyl
Reissue of the 2007 major label debut of one of the most controversial modern day rock acts. Features the singles ''Stop'' and ''Thrash Unreal''.
For Against Me! frontman Tom Gabel (now Laura Jane Grace), sometimes you have to get the hell out just to find your way back in. Since 1997 we have seen Gabel rise from acoustic folk-punk gunslinger in the dives of Gainesville, Florida to releasing Against Me!'s searing, blood-smeared slices of scrappy punk. The 2007 release, New Wave, was their major label debut, one that Spin magazine anointed as their Album Of The Year. And while Gainesville was home, Gabel felt the walls closing in when touring for New Wave came to an end. So he split. With his then-wife, he left behind the ''didja-hear-about-so-and-so'' insular Gainesville world for the sleepy beach town of St. Augustine, wandering the streets and driving dusty back roads: searching, pining, hoping for inspiration.

RepoRepo is the fifth album by Black Dice. The Brooklyn, NY-based trio has never worked harder at crafting a set of concise, sonically battering, or flat-out bizarre tunes than on this collection of fringe-surfing tone bombs. Yet a new roadhouse blues-band philosophy has simultaneously emerged, allowing the group to loosen up and toss off a record packed with blurry hooks and zoomed-in riffs as casually as a grizzled denizen of roadside dives might spew out aural alchemy in-between a few brews.
Brothers Eric and Bjorn Copeland and Aaron Warren have spent the better part of 10 years in daily contact, touring the world over, and sculpting their saw-toothed sound balloons under circumstances most reasonable people would wretch at. Their communal consciousness is as packed with garbage as much as it is concerned with making catchy tunes, and often the songs pouring out of it contain equal parts bombastic infectious rhythm and chaotic detritus.
Repo is the sound of a disciplined group of cosmic jokers setting out to reclaim the landscape popular culture would have us believe we cannot afford. The record irreverently mulches the sounds and images of radio, TV and internet into a fertile compost pile squirming with new, raw life. This Double Vinyl edition of Repo also features a 20 page booklet with exclusive art by the band.1. Night Creme

Need You Now (Deluxe Edition)Plumb fans say her music brings hope and inspiration to their world. It's the highest compliment. Fame and fortune are fleeting, says Plumb, but making a difference in people's lives lasts for eternity. I want to tackle the difficult subjects in life, because I want people to know that the hard times, just like a piece of coal, can be turned into a diamond. So confesses singer/songwriter Plumb, an artist whose music blends the complex, feminine poignancy of Suzanne Vega and Sarah McLachlan with the sophisticated, modern rock of Shirley Manson from Garbage or Amy Lee of Evanescence.
Although Plumb's songs have sold millions of records for other artists, it's as a solo artist that her contribution to music can be felt most deeply. Plumb's music has appeared in Television shows ranging from Dawson's Creek, Felicity, ESPN's March Madness and more. Major motion pictures and soundtrack exposure include Bruce Almighty, Just Married, The Story Of Us, Loser, View From The Top, Drive Me Crazy, The Perfect Man and Evan Almighty. Plumb songs have also been recorded by the likes of Michelle Branch, Mandy Moore, Jennifer Page and more. Having achieved exposure in a variety of outlets as well as radio formats, Plumb's fans reach across multiple demos.1. Invisible

At the peak of AudioQuest's Flat Rock series sits K2. Just like the mountaintop, from this vantage point there are very few options to look up toward. K2 combines Solid Perfect-Surface Silver Conductors with DBS and AudioQuest's most successful Double Star-Quad Geometry. K2 will lift the sound of your system to near tropospheric heights.
SOLID 100% PERFECT-SURFACE SILVER (PSS) CONDUCTORS: Solid conductors prevent strand interaction, a major source of cable distortion. Extremely high-purity Perfect-Surface Silver minimizes distortion caused by grain boundaries that exist within any metal conductor, eliminating harshness and greatly increasing clarity compared to all other conducting materials.
CARBON-BASED NOISE-DISSIPATION (INSULATION): The negative conductors in K2 are insulated with partially conductive Carbon-Loaded Polyethylene. This remarkable material damps radio-frequency garbage from being fed back into the amplifier. The sonic benefit is exactly the same reduction in "hash" and better dimensionality that comes whenever RF garbage is reduced in an audio circuit. K2 uses Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation on its positive conductors because air absorbs next to no energy, and Polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile. Thanks to all the air in Foamed-PE, it causes much less of the out-of-focus effect common to other materials.
DIELECTRIC-BIAS SYSTEM (DBS, US Pat #s 7,126,055 & 7,872,195 B1): All insulation slows down the signal on the conductor inside. When insulation is unbiased, it slows down parts of the signal differently, a big problem for very time-sensitive multi-octave audio. AudioQuest's DBS creates a strong, stable electrostatic field which saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This minimizes both energy storage in the insulation and the multiple nonlinear time-delays that occur. Sound appears from a surprisingly black background with unexpected detail and dynamic contrast. The DBS battery packs will last for years. A test button and LED allow for the occasional battery check.
DOUBLE STAR-QUAD GEOMETRY: The relationship between conductors defines a cable's most basic electrical values (capacitance and inductance). However, even when those variables are kept in a reasonable balance, the relationship between conductors can be varied in ways that greatly affect the sound. The Double Star-Quad construction of K2 allows for significantly better dynamic contrast and information intelligibility than if the same conductors were run in parallel.
SPREAD-SPECTRUM TECHNOLOGY (SST): Any single size or shape of conductor has a specific distortion profile. Even though radially symmetrical conductors (solid or tubular) have the fewest discontinuities, any conductor of a particular size does have a sonic signature. SST is a method for significantly reducing the awareness of these character flaws by using a precise combination of different size conductors. The different SST-determined conductor sizes used in K2 allow an exceptionally clear, clean and dynamic sound.

The 4-Series of AudioQuest speakers cables may be the most successful in AudioQuest's 30+ year history. Type 4's roots go all the way back to the late 80's. The fundamental geometry and conductor complement of Type 4 hasn't changed since 1995 because any change to the size or position of the 4-Series' 2-sized Spread-Spectrum conductor arrangement would reduce performance.
SOLID LONG-GRAIN COPPER (LGC) CONDUCTORS: Type 4's solid Long-Grain Copper allows a smoother and clearer sound than cables using typical OFHC (Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity) copper. OFHC is a general metal industry specification regarding "loss" without any concern for distortion. LGC has fewer oxides within the conducting material, less impurities, less grain boundaries, and definitively better performance. All four of Type 4's conductors are solid. Electrical and magnetic interaction between strands in a conventional cable is the single greatest source of distortion, often causing a somewhat harsh, dirty and confused sound. Solid conductors are the most important ingredients enabling Type 4's very clear sound. Whether a conductor is solid or stranded, skin-effect is a prime distortion mechanism in speaker cables. Type 4 very simply keeps this effect out of the audio range by using conductor sizes that are below the threshold for audible distortion.
CARBON-BASED NOISE-DISSIPATION and CROSS-TALK-DISSIPATION SYSTEMS (INSULATION): The two negative conductors in Type 4 are insulated with partially conductive Carbon-Loaded Polyethylene. This remarkable material damps radio-frequency garbage from being fed back into the amplifier. The sonic benefit is exactly the same reduction in "hash" and better dimensionality that comes whenever RF garbage is reduced in an audio circuit. Type 4 uses Nitrogen-Injected Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation on its positive conductors because air absorbs next to no energy, and Polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile. Thanks to all the air in Foamed-PE, it causes much less of the out-of-focus effect common to other materials.

Hard BelieverHard Believer is the eagerly-awaited new studio album from Fink: Fin Greenall (vocals/guitar), together with Tim Thornton (drums/guitar) and Guy Whittaker (bass). It will be their first release on the R'COUP'D imprint, a label newly created by Greenall with the backing of the Ninja Tune team.
Recorded in seventeen days at Hollywood's legendary Sound Factory studios with producer Billy Bush (Garbage, Beck, Foster the People), Hard Believer is shot through with rawness and controlled aggression; an album replete with calm beginnings seguing into powerfully hypnotic loops and climactic finales. It is a masterful collection of songs from an artist at the peak of his creative powers.
"We wanted to go deeper this time, and be more ambitious with the music," Fin explains, "to move the sound forward without losing touch of where we're from."
Urban, bluesy, and alive, the album presents ten brand new songs, including the mighty "Shakespeare", a tale of young love gone tragically sour as the mood darkens from acoustic to guttural rock; the spiky yet delicate "Looking Too Closely", riding an irresistible piano-and-guitar groove; "Green and the Blue", on which a vulnerable Greenall meditates on the constants in life that see you through tough times; "Two Days Later", a deeply personal lament and one of only two songs on the record that start and remain down-tempo; and the breathtaking "Pilgrim", the latest collaboration with songwriter Blair Mackichan, co-writer of "This Is The Thing" from Fink's 2007 album Distance and Time, and "Honesty" from 2011's Perfect Darkness.
Since making the transition from world-class club DJ and electronic producer, to the first ever singer-songwriter signed to legendary British label Ninja Tune, Greenall has released four critically acclaimed albums, worked in the studio with the likes of John Legend, Ximena Sariñana, Amy Winehouse and Professor Green and enjoyed incredible live success with the hugely popular 18-month Perfect Darkness world tour, which accumulated two live records: 2012's Wheels Turn Beneath My Feet, and 2013's Fink Meets the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. All this and Fink is still a name which - while evoking an impassioned response from many a fellow artist and from the avid fanbase - remains a mystery to a wider majority. This looks set to change...
The term Hard Believer comes from deep-south Americana; it means somebody who is difficult to persuade, who requires proof. In truth, all anyone has to do here is listen to the powerful collection of songs on Hard Believer. The belief will surely follow.1. Hard Believer

The Warm Moods (Pure Pleasure) (Awaiting Repress)Actually I am not big fan of jazz mixing with strings - it seems to have a muzaky feeling to it. But ... this album is so well done, Webster's playing is so amazing, that there is no way anyone could call this muzak. The sound is excellent. It was recorded at Radio Recorders - a great sound studio that was very popular in Hollywood in the 50s. The strings are extremely lush and Webster sounds as if he is in the room with you. One additional note - Webster's signiture breathy sound is much less breathy than in later albums. Not better, not worse - just a different sound than I am used to hearing. I highly suggest this LP to any Webster fan and anyone looking for a big fat mellow sound.« By T. Butler on August 7, 2004
I grew up on late 70s and early 80s R&B and soul music and then aggressively got into hip-hop. Hip hop music was the music that began to expose me to the jazz classics that seldomly became sampled in the art form. I'm grateful for that and I have been an avid collector of jazz music for 15 years now. I buy music randomly and at the spur of the moment and from many artists I have never heard of ... so yes, do own a whole lot of musical garbage! but sometimes I get lucky .. like this album here. This was my first Ben Webster album (of which I now own five) and this one still remains my favorite. This is music for a grown spirit ... it is indeed warm and quiet and lush. About Pure Pleasure
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. The Sweetheart Of Sigma Chi

Just Roll Tape: April 26, 1968 (Out Of Stock)Remastered from the Original Analog Tapes by Kevin Grey at Acoustech and Pressed on 180g RTI Vinyl! True Audiophile-Quality!
A moment in rock & roll history, unearthed! In April of 1968, after leaving Buffalo Springfield, but before joining CSN, Stephen Stills found himself in a New York recording session with then girlfriend Judy Collins. Stills wandered down the hall with an engineer and an acoustic guitar, and laying down a couple hundred-dollar bills, told the engineer Just roll tape. What he recorded in the ensuing hours was the first ever versions of what would become classics for Stephen Stills, CSN, CSNY and Manassas. Almost 40 years later the tapes, rescued decades ago from a garbage bin, are finally remastered and being released to the public. Includes the first recordings of the future CSN hits Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, Helplessly Hoping and Wooden Ships, as well as demos of Stills' solo classics Change Partners, Black Queen, and Know You Got To Run, and Manassas So Begins The Task.1.
