GarciaOriginally released in 1972, Garcia is Jerry Garcia's first solo album and was recorded over a three-week period almost entirely by Jerry with assistance from Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann and lyricist Robert Hunter. Six songs - Deal, Bird Song, Sugaree, Loser, To Lay Me Down, and The Wheel - contained on the album would become staples within the Grateful Dead catalog. Jerry Garcia And David Grisman
Numbered Limited Edition 180g 2LP from Mobile Fidelity
Contemporary Interest in Roots Music Kick-Started by Stellar Grammy-Nominated 1991 Collaboration
Recording Now As Realistic, Natural, Close-Up, Intimate, and Enveloping as Any Acoustic Record Released: 1st Time-Ever on LP
Garcia and Grisman Put on Virtuosic Performance, Make Way Through Pop Standards, Blues Classics, Folk Staples, Bluegrass Jaunts, and More
Jerry Garcia achieved monumental accomplishments over a prolific career, yet the guitarist never sounded better than on his first official collaboration with longtime friend and fellow instrumental maestro David Grisman. Indeed, contemporary interest in roots music can be directly traced to this stellar Grammy-nominated 1991 collaboration. Putting distinctive rustic spins on pop standards, blues classics, and folk staples, the kindred musical spirits' earnest authenticity and relaxed intimacy are matched only by virtuosic playing and superb production. As realistic, warm, close-up, and immersive as any acoustic album, Mobile Fidelity's reissue raises the bar on the meaning of reference-standard.
Mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelity's 180g 2LP of Garcia/Grisman takes a record forever renowned for breathtaking sonics to another level. Originally released on Grisman's fabled Acoustic Disc label and recorded at his plush studios, the album now sounds even more realistic-with distinctive tones, palpable air, smooth vocals, three-dimensional soundstaging, balanced imaging, and timbral extension that mirror the feeling and experience of hearing live music in a small space.
Unadorned with any post-production tricks or overdubs, Garcia/Grisman breathes with naturalism and presence. You will effortlessly detect the full body of the instruments, witness the woody grain textures, and get lost in the surprisingly velvety qualities of Garcia's lullaby-like singing. Mobile Fidelity's meticulous pressing also marks the first time this delightfully joyous affair has been issued in analog form. You will never hear a better-sounding Americana-styled recording.
Pals since the mid-1960s, Garcia and Grisman bonded over their love for traditional folk and bluegrass. The two teamed up amidst what became a gold rush of top-notch productivity and creativity for Garcia. Partnering with bassist Jim Kerwin and percussionist/fiddler Joe Craven, the pair approaches every passage with innate ease, as if either musician could finish the others sentence. The affable chemistry and soothing interplay wash over a selection of songs as notable for their diversity as the way Garcia and "Dawg" turn them into the equivalent of old friends you haven't seen in years.
Exquisite melodies and jewel-shaped notes decorate the simple, convivial structures of tunes that hop, jump, skip, skitter, and bop. The atmosphere is reminiscent of the legendary gypsy-jazz exchanges between Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, and equally sharp. Swirling with Middle Eastern modality, the closing 16-minute-plus rendition of Grisman's rippling "Arabia"-complete with a section based on a Cuban fold theme-is alone enough worth the price of admission to this sensational session. But there's so much more.
The quartet delves into Celtic themes ("Two Soldiers"), jazz-grass ("Grateful Dawg"), old-world ballads ("Russian Lullaby"), and Appalachian flavors ("Walkin' Boss") with nonpareil skill and soulfulness. Garcia and Grisman's tandem picking throughout epitomize sublime. And for many listeners, the duo's revised version of the Grateful Dead staple "Friend of the Devil" ranks as the finest-ever recorded, the pace patient, the narrative vocals heartfelt, and the synchronous solos tailor-made for the enveloping progression. Better yet, it's all captured in astonishing fidelity.

While glancing at the song list may not reveal any surprises, finicky and hard to please enthusiasts will be thrilled by above-average playing from start to finish...Garcia seems to be in good spirits, as his resounding vocals and fretwork are consistent and exceptional. Medicine For BirdsSinger and songwriter Angelica Garcia's journey down the rabbit hole began when she moved to Accomac, Virginia. Graduating from Los Angeles School for the Arts, the 17-year-old native Angeleno found herself living in a 200-year-old gothic brick home encircled by magnolia trees and under a blanket of bright stars. Her stepfather traded a career in the music industry for Episcopalian priesthood, and an Eastern Shore church would serve as his (and the family's) first congregation. Isolated and alone, Angelica locked herself in the parish house and fashioned a musical world that veers between ghostly gorgeous countrified blues and sly swamp Americana. With a childlike whimsy, quirky sense of humor, and dynamic delivery, it could easily soundtrack an apparitions' ball in some Faulknerian mansion. Upon first listen, it entranced Warner Bros. Records. Recorded by Charlie Peacock [The Civil Wars, Switchfoot] in Nashville, her full-length debut Medicine For Birds unlocks this world for everyone in 2016.1. Little Bird

American BeautyThe Most American Folk-Rock Ever Made: Indelible Harmonies, Spare Playing, and Gorgeous Textures Surround Masterfully Crafted Songs
Close Your Eyes As the Dead Serenade You in Your Room: MoFi Edition of American Beauty Epitomizes Realistic Space, Vocals, Instrumentation, and Ambience
Ranked #261 on Rolling Stone's List of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time: Includes "Truckin'," "Sugar Magnolia," "Friend of the Devil," "Ripple"
American Beauty is the most perfectly realized, superbly played, and openly natural folk-rock record ever released. They don't make albums like this anymore, but thankfully, Mobile Fidelity's extraordinary 180g 45RPM 2LP set allows you to experience this 1970 masterpiece with unrivaled intimacy, realism, detail, and perspective. The Dead might as well be sitting on a Persian carpet right in your living room.
The pinnacle of the Dead's studio output, American Beauty lives up to its name-as well as that of the "American Reality" ambigram on the iconic cover. Airy vocal harmonies blow like fresh breezes. Strummed acoustic guitars amicably intermingle with plaintive percussive beats. Warmth, relaxation, and poignancy envelop the performances and create sensations of bliss, peace, and honesty. Songs flower with majestic melodies and emotionally direct lyrics. It's a rare album that invites and makes you feel, restores one's faith, and renews one's appreciation for all life offers.
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g LP at RTI, this deluxe analog set possesses seemingly limitless dynamics, reference-grade presence, and expansive soundstages. The seamless, effortless integration of the group's vocals has always been a high point of American Beauty, and when you hear it here, you'll want every record you own to sound half as good. Every member's distinctive singing resounds with tube-like clarity; the intended expressionism is as plain as day. Instruments, too, resonate in glorious Technicolor. The supple tension of Phil Lesh's bass lines, charismatic timbres of Jerry Garcia's pedal-steel fills, and interwoven dialogue between the pianos and percussion are rendered with lifelike scale and tone.
Made just months after its companion release, Workingman's Dead, the San Francisco legends' second 1970 masterpiece furthers the former work's close-knit relationship between country and folk while adding extra rock and bluegrass currents. Understated amplified passages, graceful melodies, layered singing, and old-time string flavors-including mandolin work from masterful guest David Grisman-bestow the material with easygoing, comfortable vibes. Again taking advantage of the best songwriting of Robert Hunter's career, the Dead turns in its most collective studio performance, with every individual contributing equally and focusing on nothing but the songs at hand.
Indeed, Garcia doesn't even indulge in a single guitar solo on the record. A majority of fare lacks any significant instrumental breaks. The Dead recorded the foundations (drums, bass, acoustic guitars) of nearly every track live, which helps explain why American Beauty sounds so powerfully rich and clear. Coupled with the band's personal reflections of the circumstances surrounding them-Bob Weir's parents had died, Garcia's mother and Lesh's father were in the process of passing, Ron "Pigpen" McKernan's health was in decline-these characteristics combined to yield a purity of heart that exceeds that managed by Dead peers (and roots revivalist leaders) The Band and Bob Dylan.
From Garcia's breathtaking gospel-laden homage to his mother ("Brokedown Palace") to Lesh's healing salve in the form of the groove-based "Box of Rain," from Weir's jaunty and free-wheeling summer escape "Sugar Magnolia" to McKernan's eloquently simple homespun plea "Operator," all the way to the closing autobiographical anthem "Truckin'," American Beauty feels like the warm, spirit-infusing embrace of a loved one after a long journey away. VolunteersJefferson Airplane Volunteers on Numbered Limited Edition 180g 45RPM 2LP from Mobile Fidelity
Seminal 1969 Album Steeped in Revolution, Vitality, Protest: The Aural Equivalent of a Demonstration March, Jefferson Airplane's Uncompromising Volunteers Rooted in Belief Music Can Change World
Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Wider, Deeper Grooves on 180g 45RPM 2LP Set Yield Superior Transparency, Rich Nuances, and Engaging Dynamics on Set Ranked #370 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time
Defiant, Assured, Cohesive Songs Filled With Driving Psychedelia, Rustic Country, and Crunchy Acid-Rock: Guest Musicians Include Jerry Garcia, Stephen Stills, and David Crosby
Awash in controversy and loaded with revolutionary protest, Jefferson Airplane's Volunteers stands as the last album made by the group's classic lineup and brings insurgent closure to the peace-and-love era. The potent 1969 record confronts war, politics, greed, and environmental ruin in head-on fashion matched by few peers. Steeped in the belief people and music could transform the world, it steers the band in community-minded and county-rock directions, and features charged playing by guest luminaries such as Jerry Garcia, Stephen Stills, David Crosby, and Nicky Hopkins. Volunteers also benefits from being one of the first 16-track recordings. And now, the historic set can be heard in the fidelity the artists and producers intended.
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180g 45RPM 2LP set of Volunteers teems with soul-affirming energy, dynamics, immediacy, and standout textures. The wider and deeper grooves translate into finer pacing, enhanced information retrieval, and superior transparency. Soundstages stretch far and extend back, with instrumental separation giving all of the musicians their own place in the mix. As a result, subtle albeit important details - Hopkins' rollicking piano, guitarist Norma Kaukonen's biting tones, Garcia's deft pedal-steel work - emerge in three-dimensional fashion amidst a musical canvas that manages to be both edgy and produced, raw and revealing. Jefferson Airplane has never sounded more vital.
Much had changed in America - and within Jefferson Airplane - in just the two short years since the release of the San Francisco collective's breakthrough smash Surrealistic Pillow. The countercultural movement had darkened, government involvement in Vietnam escalated, and regard for human rights fallen. Retreating from the excessive experimentalism that graced its prior two LPs, the Airplane responded to the social circumstances with defiant, assured, and cohesive songs shot through with driving psychedelia, crunchy acid-rock, and rustic country. From start to finish, it's the aural equivalent of a demonstration march.
Having drawn attention for the inclusion of profanities in multiple tunes, the Top 20 LP also ran up against the nonprofit Volunteers of America after the sextet wanted to title the record Volunteers of Amerika in order to express further dissatisfaction with the country. While Grace Slick and Co. gave into the charity's desires to switch the name, there's nothing compromising about Volunteers. Kaukonen's leads cut searing swaths through urgent fare like Eskimo Blue Day and anthemic We Can Be Together, which boldly speaks out against convention and in favor of chaos and anarchy.
Indeed, in organizing a pseudo summit of many of the counterculture's leading musical figures to participate on Volunteers, the Airplane treats the album as an orchestrated stance against the establishment. Stills and Crosby assist in rocking the boat on a turbulent cover of Wooden Ships lined with Slick and Marty Balin's overlapping lead vocals. Hopkins gooses the call-to-arms title track with frisky boogie-woogie lines. Garcia lends The Farm a suitable rustic vibe, and on his final appearance with the Airplane, drummer Spencer Dryden helms the pastoral sing-a-long A Song for All Seasons.
Ranked #370 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, Volunteers remains a cultural and musical touchstone.

Black Night Is Falling - Live at The Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club (Pre-Order)Black Night Is Falling finds John Lee Hooker in fine voice and backed by a driving band composed of John Garcia on guitar, Steve Jones on bass, and Larry Wild Man Martin on drums, with the end result being an excellent example of Hooker at his best. Highlights include impressive romps through Hooker's signature tunes, Boom Boom, which simply blazes with raw energy here, and One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer, which is delivered as a wonderfully paced barroom cautionary tale. This is what the live Hooker sounded like with a sympathetic band behind him, a band that luckily wasn't afraid to push him a little. After the first song, Hooker says "I want to tell you one thing. This is the best blues club in town", and from it's opening in 1975, and for more than a decade later, The Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club brought the best blues, jazz, Cajun, and salsa players from around the world to Montreal.1. I Become A ShadeSeoul have never been in a rush. Despite the overwhelming praise that met the Montreal trio's first two online releases - "Stay With Us" and "White Morning" - and despite the industry chatter that surrounded their first live performance at Pop Montreal 2013, kindergarten classmates Nigel Ward and Julian Flavin, and art school transplant Dexter Garcia remained resolute in fine tuning the dozen songs that would become their official debut: I Become A Shade.
"We're just very intent on trying to get our musical ideas to exist as the definitive versions of themselves," says Ward. "Granted, each idea has limits, but its a question of discovering the borders of an idea and then putting its essence on display - so much of that has to do with the slow sculptural nature of studio work. Playing around in a studio invites elements of chance, collage, and trial-and-error into the process, which feels essential to having a song really reveal itself to you. Its a process of organizing our intuitions into cohesive moments and seeing where it takes us."
Where their intuitions took them is a very special place indeed. From the lush ache and bouyance of "Stay With Us" to the sculpted synths and angular sincerity of "The Line," I Become A Shade is the sort of record whose every detail, whether panoramic or microscopic, is on glorious, deliberate display. A work separated into three distinct suites, the record is equal parts gauzy dream-pop, reverberant R&B, and speculative ambient - a world where sentences are often left unfinished and meaning rears its head in the intervals. The propulsive "Real June" and "Silencer" both hurtle through space like rain-drenched athletes, while "I Negate" and "White Morning" shimmer with a hushed honesty, growing and pirouetting with dreamy eventuality into a thick focus.
Set for release on Grand Jury in the US and Last Gang in Canada, every element of Shade is a testament to Seoul's painstaking attention to detail, whether in the stark black & white art that accompanies the album, or the serene videos the band set to its music.
"We do all our own art stuff and collaborate as closely as possible with video people," says Flavin. "We engineer and mix our recordings too, so it's very hands on."
And in Seoul all hands are created equal. "It's rare that a song doesn't change hands quite a few times prior to us finishing it," says Garcia. "And most of this elaboration on an idea is done rotating through a computer and reacting to each other's contributions in relation to the direction things are going in." Take lead single "The Line" as an example. "Nigel added a soft vocal that pillowed up above the angularity of the synths," Garcia continues, "And you get a really nice contrast between the two, where the core feeling of the song is revealed by its being expressed in two hauntingly different ways."
And that's what I Become A Shade is meant to be - an examination of poles - a debut that rains with the melancholy of sidelong glances and rented rooms, while frequently transcending its own desperateness in moments of breathless self-discovery. While one might think something labored over for so long would come with a prescribed understanding, Seoul would rather fans meet and interpret the record at their own personal junctures. "We're interested in presenting different versions of the self, the endless shift from self-loathing and loneliness to vibrancy and connectedness and back," says Flavin. "All states are valid, and we've tried to collect and display the beauty and necessity of both spectrums of experience - how it can feel both awful and cathartic to liquify into your surrounding and disappear."

VolunteersRanked 370/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
In their late-60s heyday, Jefferson Airplane embodied the eras revolutionary attitude and experimental spirit like no other rock act. Their unique combination of adventurous musicianship, visionary lyrics and personal charisma defined San Francisco psychedelia and established the band as quintessential Aquarian-age messengers.
1969s Volunteers coincided with Jefferson Airplanes performance at the Woodstock festival and is one of the groups most popular albums. Its also one of their most explicitly political efforts, calling for revolutionary action and counter-cultural unity on such memorable anthems as We Can Be Together, Wooden Ships, Eskimo Blue Day and the albums iconic title track, with the band members formidable musicianship augmented by guest players Jerry Garcia and Nicky Hopkins. Volunteers uncompromising stance originally made the album a source of controversy, but today its rightfully recognized as a rock landmark.

The Unlawful Trade of Greco-Roman ArtSo Stressed initially began in Sacramento, CA as a largely
improvisational noise project that included the band's three
members (Morgan Fox, Andrew Garcia and Kenneth Draper).
Over time, the lineup was refined and their sound coalesced
into what's heard on The Unlawful Trade of Greco-Roman Art, a
technically meticulous but anxiety ridden and sometimes terrifying
cry which calls to mind everything from Q and Not U
to No Trend and the Minutemen. At times, Fox's lyrics bring to
mind the emotional distress and social reservation seen in Wire
and Wall of Voodoo.
The fact that their sound is so violent and tense as to be physically
disarming is almost deceptive; the members of So Stressed
are kind, conscientious and smart young men. Writing this
album took more than two years (and recording took more than
six months) due to a common habit of throwing away fully-formed
songs deemed to be even slightly less than perfect. All
this was done with no goal in mind- if no one wanted to release
it, Fox says, "we were just going to delete it."1. Cupcake Sister

SomersaultThe long-awaited return of Brooklyn's Beach Fossils, Somersault showcases a band in bloom. Charting into new musical territory with a refined songwriting style, it's an album that captures flashes of life in New York grounded in personal experience.
As the band's first release on Dustin Payseur's new label Bayonet Records, which he co-owns with wife Kate Garcia - the group made the most of their newfound independence, investing ample time in expanding its range both musically and lyrically. While Payseur handled the bulk of the songwriting duties in the past, Somersault is a true collaboration between the founding member and bandmates, Jack Doyle Smith and Tommy Davidson.
Augmented with more complex instrumentation, including string arrangements, piano, harpsichord, flute, and sax, the new songs offer multi-layered pop guided by sharp, poignant, and honest lyrics. Orchestral pop gem Saint Ivy shines with plucked strings, buoyant basslines and a propulsive, wayward, guitar. Tangerine, a driving, tightly wound melody, rushes forward and briefly leaves the ground due to the gossamer guest vocals of Slowdive's Rachel Goswell. The cloudy, wistful Social Jetlag, bustling with samples of crowded streets, features the type of candid, off-the-cuff lyrics that make the entire effort immediately illuminating.
Somersault evokes the laid-back mood of a warm, breezy city night, the air crackling with humidity and excitement. These songs pulse and pull, capturing a blend of promise and heartache. It's beautiful and layered, a refined, sweeping creation that threads together numerous styles, textures, and themes into a refreshing, singular vision.1. This Year

Jefferson Airplane's 1967 Psychedelic Breakthrough First Record to Put Countercultural San Francisco Scene on Mainstream Music Map: Includes Top 10 Hits Someone to Love and White Rabbit
Acid-Rock Experimentalism and Folk-Based Arrangements Yield Mysteriousness, Darkness, and Beauty: Grace Slick's Clarion-Call Singing Matches Virtuosic Playing of Band Members and Guest Jerry Garcia
They were the best of times for Jefferson Airplane, and the good vibes are heard throughout the band's iconic Surrealistic Pillow. The group's first album with vocalist Grace Slick and drummer Spencer Dryden, the 1967 effort bowed as the first psychedelic-rock breakout from the potent San Francisco scene, climbing to #3 and boasting two Top 10 singles. By bringing the then-unpolluted counterculture to the attention of the mainstream, the effort ranked by Rolling Stone #146 on its 500 Greatest Albums of All Time eradicated boundaries and opened up creative vistas for a parade of likeminded artists that followed. Mobile Fidelity's analog reissue honors this legacy with an edition that presents the groundbreaking music with incredible realism.
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180g 45RPM mono 2LP set grants Surrealistic Pillow audiophile-grade sound remarkable for its sense of balance, clarity, and tonality. While fans have always preferred the original mono version of the LP, it went out of print soon after its release, causing prices to soar.
Offering wider, deeper grooves for better information retrieval and superior pacing, this deluxe set gives listeners the chance to enjoy Jefferson Airplane's blockbuster set in faithful-to-the-original mono without having to pay a premium. Along with immersive detail and dynamics, the level of instrumental and vocal separation allows the sensory-altering songs' complexities to emerge with full-bloom color and renewed perspective. Mobile Fidelity puts the surrealism back into Surrealistic Pillow.
