    Giant Steps

Ranked 102/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Giant Steps was recorded in 1959 by John Coltrane. This was the first album where all songs recorded were original compositions of Coltrane. The album showcases Coltrane's masterful improvisational style that is now known as sheets of sound. Giant Steps is often used as a practice piece because of its chord progression, and is seen by jazz musicians as the standard for modern jazz, also being used as a gauge of measuring a musician's improvisational skill. Soon after the release of Giant Steps, Coltrane ventured into modal jazz, so this album is often viewed as his farewell to bebop.

    Mono Remaster

History will undoubtedly enshrine this disc as a watershed the likes of which may never truly be appreciated. Giant Steps bore the double-edged sword of furthering the cause of the music as well as delivering it to an increasingly mainstream audience.

Although this was John Coltrane's debut for Atlantic, he was concurrently performing and recording with Miles Davis. Within the space of less than three weeks, Coltrane would complete his work with Davis and company on another genre-defining disc, Kind of Blue, before commencing his efforts on this one.

Coltrane (tenor sax) is flanked by essentially two different trios. Recording commenced in early May of 1959 with a pair of sessions that featured Tommy Flanagan (piano) and Art Taylor (drums), as well as Paul Chambers -- who was the only band member other than Coltrane to have performed on every date. When recording resumed in December of that year, Wynton Kelly (piano) and Jimmy Cobb (drums) were instated -- replicating the lineup featured on Kind of Blue, sans Miles Davis of course.

At the heart of these recordings, however, is the laser-beam focus of Coltrane's tenor solos. All seven pieces issued on the original Giant Steps are likewise Coltrane compositions. He was, in essence, beginning to rewrite the jazz canon with material that would be centered on solos -- the 180-degree antithesis of the art form up to that point. These arrangements would create a place for the solo to become infinitely more compelling. This would culminate in a frenetic performance style that noted jazz journalist Ira Gitler accurately dubbed sheets of sound. Coltrane's polytonal torrents extricate the amicable and otherwise cordial solos that had begun decaying the very exigency of the genre -- turning it into the equivalent of easy listening.

He wastes no time as the disc's title track immediately indicates a progression from which there would be no looking back. Line upon line of highly cerebral improvisation snake between the melody and solos, practically fusing the two. The resolute intensity of Countdown does more to modernize jazz in 141 seconds than many artists do in their entire careers. Tellingly, the contrasting and ultimately pastoral Naima was the last tune to be recorded, and is the only track on the original long-player to feature the Kind of Blue quartet. What is lost in tempo is more than recouped in intrinsic melodic beauty.

    One Step Beyond

One Step Beyond... is the 1979 debut album by the British ska group Madness. It was ranked 90th in a 2005 survey held by British television's Channel 4 to determine the 100 greatest albums of all time.

The album peaked at number 2 and remained in the UK Albums Chart for over a year.

It was the first album produced by the team of Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley, who would go on to work with artists such as Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Morrissey, Dexys Midnight Runners and They Might Be Giants, as well as producing all but one of Madness' subsequent albums.

The title track, released as a single, was originally written and recorded by the Jamaican ska musician Prince Buster. The spoken line, Don't watch that, watch this in the intro is from another Prince Buster song, The Scorcher.
It was their second single after The Prince which was a tribute song to this musician.

    Moon Is The New Earth

After Rolling Stone named the band 'One Of The Top 10 Artists of 2007 To Watch,' the buzz on Rose Hill Drive has been building. The Boulder, Colorado power trio grew up blasting Van Halen and The Who and opened up for both of the legendary groups before they even released an album. Their sophomore release Moon Is The New Earth is a giant step forward for the band and it's an album that more than lives up to their reputation as an up and coming live-driven band. Rose Hill Drive is made up of brothers Jake (vocals/bass) and Daniel Sproul (guitars/vocals) and Nate Barnes (drums). Their new 12-song release was written, recorded, produced and mixed by Rose Hill Drive.

Live At The Village Vanguard Again!

Live At The Village Vanguard Again! is a jazz album by saxophonist John Coltrane. Recorded in May 1966, the album shows Coltrane playing in the free jazz style that characterized his final recordings.

Out of all the recordings made during the session, only three pieces remain: Naima, originally from the album Giant Steps, My Favorite Things, from the album of the same name, and a bass solo by Jimmy Garrison entitled, Introduction to My Favorite Things. The line up consists of the augmented quartet of the time, featuring Alice Coltrane on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass and Rashied Ali on drums. Additionally, Pharoah Sanders contributes on flute and tenor saxophone, while Emanuel Rahim plays percussion.

    Thee Physical

Since the release of Dark Rift in the summer of 2009, Travis Egedy has been spreading his scuzzy, deeply sexual brand of '90s house and trance to become one of the most prominent figures in American DIY culture. Two years in the making, Thee Physical is a giant step forward for Pictureplane and is sure to be one of the most exciting releases of 2011.

Based in Denver, CO, Egedy resides in the notorious rave-punk-house Rhinoceropolis. Thanks in large part to Pictureplanes legendary shows at Rhino, his raging club night, Real is a Feeling, and his constant stream of mixtapes and remixes, Denvers vibrant DIY scene has started to morph into a national movement. Egedys growing influence can be felt in ways that are both trivial: he coined the ridiculous genre term Witch House in 2009 and significant: Pictureplanes punk rock-like approach to the production and dissemination of his work is democratizing electronic music the same way the Ramones, Minor Threat, and Black Flag liberated rock music in the '70s and '80s.

Produced and recorded by Egedy and mixed/co-produced by Jupiter Keyes of Health, Thee Physical is a celebration of human touch in a digital world. The album is also unquestionably Pictureplanes best and most assured record to date: his vocals are confident and unnervingly sexy, the instrumentation is at once both purely electronic and surprisingly human. Pictureplane has managed to make electronic music deeply emotive, a synthesis of the human and the machine both in lyrics and sound. Summer 2011 belongs to Pictureplane.

    Coltrane Jazz

180 Gram 45 RPM Double LP Remastered From Original Master Tapes

Pressed at Pallas and Mastered by Bernie Grundman

Originally released in 1960, and on the heels of Giant Steps, Coltrane Jazz came in the midst of the saxophonist's peak Atlantic period. The album is among several recordings that Coltrane issued from 1959-1961, and which, ultimately, forever changed the face of music.

Featuring pianists Wynton Kelly and McCoy Tyner, bassists Paul Chambers and Steve Davis, and drummers Elvin Jones and Jimmy Cobb, the set was recorded at three separate sessions. The expert personnel are a harbinger of the great quartet Coltrane soon would assemble for 1960's My Favorite Things. And while not as famous as that iconic title, Coltrane Jazz belongs in the pantheon of phenomenal jazz albums and is an absolute must for any music fan.

In addition to boasting superior performances and playing, the set marks Trane's first use of multiphonics, the practice of extracting more than one tone at a time from the horn, which here, and unlike on any other Coltrane record, is querulously pitched, allowing him to explore new tonalities on tracks such as Harmonique. Innovations abound. Every cut is an original composition save for Johnny Mercer's My Shining Hour. Not surprisingly, Miles Davis' influence is felt throughout; his rhythm section is used on all but one selection.

ORG Music continues its praiseworthy archival vinyl series, presenting this landmark jazz effort cut at 45RPM and on first-rate 180g vinyl. Mastered from the original master tapes with meticulous care, Coltrane Jazz teems with new life, with the headliner's horn playing and tonalities assuming lifelike richness, boldness, and presence. The supporting cast's movements and fills are heard in pristine clarity, and the airiness that all jazz lovers prize is here in spades.

Help! is the fifth album from The Beatles, and is also the soundtrack to their film of the same name. The album contains 12 original songs and only two covers and shows the band taking another giant foot step forward. The most string driven "Yesterday", shows McCartney's strength as a solo artist, while Lennon's "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" shows the growing influence of Bob Dylan further cementing itself into his song writing. This record also marks Lennon and McCartney using keyboards more, with the help of four track over dubbing helping to encourage more experimentation. Lennon also makes use of an acoustic rather than his standard electric guitar. Considered as one of the best Beatles albums before they dive into there dark rock phase.

A team consisting of some of the best producers and engineers in the recording industry were brought together and would spend 4 long years mixing and mastering with some of the most state of the art recording equipment. Treating these records much like a science experiment, engineers ran extensive tests before copying the analog master tapes over into a digital format using 24-bit/192 kHz resolution, and carefully removing clicks, vocal pops and poor edits. Never altering the original songs themselves, just polishing them up a bit.

Death To False Metal is not a traditional collection of studio leftovers or songs from the vault, but a wholly original follow-up to Weezer's just-released Hurley. The album was created using the basic tracks of 10 previously unreleased recordings-nine never-before-heard songs plus one cover-to assemble a brand new and truly modern-sounding record. The result is an evolution for the band, a giant step forward with a nod to the past.

''These were great songs, great recordings, but for some reason they didn't make the final cut for previous records,'' Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo stated. ''Some just weren't right for the albums we were recording at the time-just a bit ahead of their time or too 'rock.' Now, the time is right to introduce them. Together, they are the album that should logically follow Hurley.''

Featuring tracks the band originally began recording from the late '90s to late '00s, Death To False Metal was a labor of love for Cuomo and his co-producer Shawn Everett, as well as the entire band. Each track was individually evaluated by the production team of Cuomo and Everett to figure out how to make each of the songs reach their full potential, and ultimately fit harmoniously on the album. After that process, they then brought in each band member in to complete the parts needed. Some of the ten songs received a major overhaul, while others got the equivalent of a sonic tune-up.

''Turning Up The Radio'' is the result of Cuomo's 2008 collaborative YouTube project, ''Let's Write A Sawng,'' for which he invited fans to submit ideas. As they went through the steps of composing a tune, eventually, 15 people became involved. This track is one of only two songs not solely penned by Weezer for Death To False Metal.

''Blowin' My Stack,'' ''Losing My Mind'' (which features some of the most raw and personal emotions in a Weezer song), ''I'm A Robot,'' and a rock cover of the massive R&B hit ''Un-Break My Heart'' were all first recorded prior to the release of 2005's Make Believe. ''I Don't Want Your Loving'' was originally laid down as a demo for 2002's Maladroit. The abrasive punk-metal ''Everyone'' hails from post-1998 Pinkerton period, as does the pop song ''Trampoline.'' The piano-based ''Odd Couple'' and new-wave-style ''Auto-Pilot'' were laid down prior to 2008's Weezer (aka ''The Red Album'').

The title Death To False Metal comes from a phrase that Cuomo and his younger brother used when they were kids. Musical integrity was a matter of life or death then, and now the new album is a reminder of how important music is for both Weezer and their many fans. At a time when many of their contemporaries seem to have forgotten how to rock, Weezer is ready to teach them. Cuomo and fellow axe-slinger Brian Bell crafted nine epic guitar solos-one for nearly every song on Death To False Metal-and with the band's signature hooks in full effect, Weezer's school of rock is back in session.

    Planetario

From their humble start, file-sharing musical ideas and producing their first album in separate countries during the dawn of the internet, Novalima is now a live musical force revered worldwide for breaking boundaries and uniting seemingly irreconcilable genres, communities, and generations. They have created an inspiring movement and revolutionized the music scene in their native Peru by bridging a longstanding divide between the mainstream and the minority Afro-Peruvian community, who have struggled against discrimination and cultural dissolution for generations. Over the last two years, Novalima created their newest offering, Planetario to be released June 16th on Wonderwheel Recordings. The album's name signals Novalima's musical growth and international connections - much of the album was recorded on tour when they collaborated with top local and international musicians. There is a strong connection to Colombia created through a remarkable recording session in Bogota organized by members of La-33 including Sidestepper vocalist Eka Muñoz, Pernett and La Mamba Negra. The album also has offerings from global artists such as Marc de Clive Lowe (UK/NZ), Panko from Ojos de Brujo (Spain), and Kumar (Cuban rapper based in Barcelona). The album's debut single, "Como Yo" (to be released May 19th on digital single and 7" vinyl) honors the legendary Peruvian percussionist and longtime band member Mangue Vasquez who passed away in 2014. Not one for sentimentality, Mangue implored his friends to celebrate his life with song and dance when he passed rather than shed any tears. The life affirming lyrics are underscored by rolling percussion, twinkling synths, and a celebratory sing-song chant chorus: Gozen la vida como yo - Enjoy life, like I do. Novalima has garnered worldwide critical acclaim from mainstream (NPR, UK Guardian, Wall Street Journal, La Presse, Metro, Billboard) and underground media (Giant Step, Remezcla, Nat Geo) alike, delivered legendary performances around the world at festivals such as Roskilde, WOMAD, Pirineos Sur, NYC Central Park, Montreal Jazz Festival and Chicago's Millennium Park, earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album, and were featured in cult filmmaker Robert Rodriguez's hit Mexploitation movie Machete. For their upcoming year of international touring Novalima has designed a brand new live show that will debut in Lima at the Grand Teatro National on May 28th as part of the country's celebration of 100 years of Afro-Peruvian culture. Novalima''s international tour begins in North America this June.

    The Crash And The Draw

Chicago's MINSK reemerge from a six year hiatus with their biggest and finest record yet, 'The Crash And The Draw'. Rooted in the post-metal landscape that brought us bands like Neurosis and Isis, with 'The Crash And The Draw' MINSK step out from the shadows of the giants of their genre to create a psychedelic blend of melodic tribal heaviness. The wait was worth it, as MINSK have delivered one of the year's best and most forward thinking metal records of the year.

    Ellington At Newport

    Numbered, Limited Edition Mono LP

Pandemonium: Historic 1956 Live Set Triggered Spontaneous Audience Outburst That Fed Directly into Feel, Outcome of Performance

Ellington's Legendary Comeback Punctuated by Paul Gonsalves' 27-Chorus Saxophone Solo

Unrivaled Analog Transparency: LP Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI

One of the Most Riveting and Important Jazz Recordings Ever Made

It spurred Duke Ellington's comeback into the mainstream. It captures a performance so energetic, wild, unexpected, and unprecedented that the music literally caused thousands of people to jump up and stand on their chairs, worrying officials that a riot might ensue. It is jazz of the highest order, played at an almost rock n' roll pace, and with an enthusiastic pep that confirms Ellington and his ensemble fed off the crowd's reaction as the collective lit into each new stanza. It is Ellington's best-selling album. It is Ellington at Newport.

Like few records before or since, the 1956 set owes as much to context and circumstance as it does instrumental execution. Years prior to his appearance in Rhode Island, Ellington had suffered lackadaisical record sales and a falling out of the public eye, as bop and hard bop supplanted tradition big bands. Yet in preparation for the event, Ellington worked on experimental ideas and a reshaping of some of his standards.

The iconic arranger/composer's foresight comes into fruition throughout the white-hot set, never more so than on "Diminuendo and Crescendo In Blue," on which tenor saxophonist Paul Gonsalves erases all rules and outlays a 27-chorus solo that left everyone in awe-and prompted them to stand on chairs, dance feverishly, and hoot and holler to an extent that caused Ellington to ultimately cool things off. The improvisational flight epitomizes boldness, freedom, risk, and, to the bandleader, an assuredly loud response to the critics that had believed his well was tapped.

The songs in advance of the climactic moment are no less exciting; Ellington and his 15-piece collective manhandle notes with ease, swinging and sliding through "Festival Junction" with a requisite balance of poise and panache, and kicking heels on Newport Up via Ellington's spry piano riffs, Jimmy Hamilton's spicy clarinet feeds, and Clark Terry's trumpet runs. In every way, Ellington at Newport is as quintessential as Kind of Blue, Giant Steps, and Way Out West.

And now, the 1956 classic can be experienced in an analog fidelity never before as authentic or transparent on any pressing. Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI (America's best record plant), this numbered limited edition Silver Series LP of Ellington's triumph boasts tremendous separation, deeper low frequencies, clearer highs, and front-to-back dynamics. Horns blare with multi-hued color, the Duke's 88s ring out with treble finesse, and the rhythm section claims an added presence buried on previous editions. Musically and sonically, you need this LP. It's that simple.

    Bringin' It

Iconic bassist Christian McBride has been doing what the title of his upcoming big band album implores for years: Bringin' It. This highly anticipated release, which follows the Christian McBride Big Band's 2011 Grammy® Award-winning debut, The Good Feeling, puts his status and skills as an all-around entertainer on full display. With a list of growing accolades including his recent appointment as Artistic Director at the Newport Jazz Festival, hosting shows on SiriusXM ("The Lowdown: Conversations with Christian") and NPR ("Jazz Night in America," as well as frequent online contributions to various programs including "All Things Considered"), speaking engagements, and occasional DJ performances under the alias DJ Brother Mister, he's more than just a bandleader: Christian McBride is transcending that title to something more complete.

If it is true that jazz is a sponge for musicians to absorb and then squeeze out what they hear to produce their own sound, McBride has been "bringin' it" for quite a long time. From his amazing quintet, Inside Straight, to his avant-garde leaning quartet, New Jawn, the contemporary sound of his fusion group, A Christian McBride Situation, to the critically acclaimed music he's made with his trio, the bassist has always disseminated his own unique 360-degree view of jazz.

While the music played by the Christian McBride Big Band is on the cutting edge of 21st century large ensemble music, the orchestra's presentation, like its sound, respects the past while looking forward. Danny Ray, the legendary stage announcer for James Brown, travels with the group to give the leader an old-school intro before playing his thoroughly modern music. "I love having the show aspect of it as well, with Danny Ray there, and being able to create somewhat of a show while also having Melissa there as our vocalist."

That would be Melissa Walker, who graces Bringin' It on two tracks: "Upside Down," originally done by Brazilian superstar Djavan, and the unlikely slick arrangement of "Mr. Bojangles." In addition to maintaining a career in jazz, Walker is also the co-founder of Jazz House Kids, the award winning jazz education center and she's Mrs. Christian McBride.

Only two tracks on this 11-song set were not arranged by the leader: the "Upside Down" arrangement was contributed by Norman Simmons, while "Optimism" is from the person he's known the longest in his band, trombonist Steve Davis. Davis has the distinction of being the very last Jazz Messenger that Art Blakey hired before he died in 1990.

"I saw that last Jazz Messengers band that Steve was in," McBride remembers. "Blakey was a huge influence on me and because of that, Steve and I share the same compositional and arranging DNA. You see, even though I've been influenced by every great big band and every great arranger I've ever heard, three of my greatest influences - not just as composers but also as improvisers - are Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter and Cedar Walton. I mean before, after and during the period when they were with Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers."

McBride played bass for Freddie Hubbard's quintet for nearly three years starting when he was 18. One of the songs he loved to play with the legendary trumpeter was "Thermo." A few years ago he brought this arrangement to a gig with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. When the four trumpeters had to work hard to go over the riffs in the tune, McBride felt a certain pride. "I just thought that Freddie was somewhere up in heaven laughing," says McBride.

Perennial poll-topping arranger Maria Schneider has also been an influence on McBride. He cites times when he'd just bug her for hours, peppering her with questions, particularly on a recent trip to Europe. He honors her with his rendition of "I Thought About You." "She has an arrangement of 'Giant Steps' where she arranged the melody over a D pedal so I said let me try something like that," McBride recounts. "That's where that came from. She really gave me a lot of information and has been a great influence on me."

Another aspect that has helped the bassist find his voice as an arranger is the fact that, except for drummer Quincy Phillips, this is the exact same band that recorded with him six years ago. "These guys know my sound. They know my style. They know what my compositional and arranging DNA is. I've been able to keep the exact same unit, so like Duke Ellington used to do, I can write for my guys because I know their sound and style.

"As for my originals, they all have been recorded with my small groups," he continues on about the tracks "Gettin' To It," "Youthful Bliss," and "Used'ta Could." "As an arranger I'm still in the early stages of my development so it seems to me the best way to really make my hopeful ascension into a better arranger is to obviously take a song I've already written and try to add to that and make it a worthy large ensemble song."

While the Wes Montgomery smoker "Full House" isn't a McBride original, it is part of his development as an arranger - it's a big band chart he first created for guitarist Russell Malone at Jazz Aspen in 2009. He says he's tweaked it since then for his go-to guitarist Rodney Jones. For the McCoy Tyner classic "Sahara," the bassist channeled his 20+ years of playing with the legendary Chick Corea, for which McBride won two of his five Grammys. Another one of his Grammys came from a co-op project with Tyner. "I always thought of Chick, in his early years, as being a branch from the tree of McCoy Tyner, if you will," he commented.

McBride's work ethic is evident in the challenge he set for himself on the steamy old ballad "In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning." "I decided to torture myself by writing that arrangement in the key of B. To me that's a very pretty key, but it is a very hard key for a double bass because I get to play no open strings," McBride explains. "When I play it live, every bass player in the house comes to me and says, 'is that in B? Why do you do that?' Maybe it's because I'm crazy, but I really wanted to do something difficult and keep myself on my toes."

Planning to keep this group simmering while he simultaneously resurrects his Inside Straight band and introduces his new trio, Tip City, McBride is most excited to embrace the golden age of big bands while they continue bringin' it with more gigs and their first European tour. "With my big band I try to combine all of my journeys and goals as a musician and then try to put it in a wrapper of show business," the five-time Grammy® Award-winner comments. "I really think in that sense I'm following something of a big band tradition."

    Why?

At last! TMBG is returning to the world of kids stuff! You might have heard some of the tracks previewed on Dial-A-Song, but we can now confirm the arrival of a fantastic set of 18 new songs called Why? What kind of album is Why? Well, it's not bad for you but it's not good for you either. It's just about fun, like TMBG's first kids album No! Why? is memorable songs in family-friendly package with none of that pandering aftertaste.

Like previous TMBG kid productions it's a family affair with John Flansburgh's wife Robin "Goldie" Goldwasser singing a couple of tracks, while bassist Danny Weinkauf, joined by his daughter, steps up to the mic for the song Elephants. Alison Cowles, the daughter longtime video animation collaborator David Cowles (The Mesopotamians, We Live in a Dump, Science is Real) has contributed all the illustrations for the album. Right out of the gate TMBG hits the listener with the odd brilliance of "Oh You Did" through the folkie charm of "Out of A Tree," the full rocking of "Or So I Have Read" the perky "I Just Want to Dance," and wrapping things up with the optimism of "Then The Kids Took Over." Why? has everything to delight both kids and parents.

Different Connection Types & Custom Lengths Available Upon Request

Note: All cables in our Bridges & Falls Series place their left and right channels in a single jacket, and feature our Asymmetrical Double-Balanced geometry with separate high-quality positive and negative conductors. This design allows for a thin, flexible, and uniquely versatile high-performance cable that can be terminated with a variety of today's connections, including 3.5mm (male or female), DIN, and RCA. In Bridges & Falls, you'll find better metals and more sophisticated technologies - including Air-Tube insulation, Dielectric-Bias System, and Noise-Dissipation System - at lower prices than ever before. Do keep in mind, however, that, by necessity, the plugs on Bridges & Falls cables are fairly close together. If the L and R inputs of your components are more than 3 (7.6cm) apart, please consider models from our Rivers or Elements Series.

The Yosemite Valley in California's Sierra Nevada Mountains is world famous for its beauty, for naturalist John Muir's work to preserve the Valley, and for Ansel Adams astonishing black & white photographs ("Yosemite and the Range of Light"). Like other glacier-carved fjord-type valleys, such as the famous fjords of Western Norway, the Yosemite Valley is graced with gorgeous waterfalls along both sides. Giant Sequoia trees, the largest trees in the world, further enhance Yosemite as possibly the most beautiful of all US National Parks.

SOLID PERFECT-SURFACE COPPER+ (PSC+) CONDUCTORS: Perfect-Surface Copper+ has an astonishingly smooth and pure surface. Proprietary metal-processing technology protects the wire's surface at every stage of drawing and fabrication. When high-purity low-oxide copper is kept as soft, pure and smooth as possible, it becomes a wonderfully low-distortion PSC+ conductor. PSC+ is manufactured by applying the same exceptional technology to an ultra-pure copper. The resulting sound quality is even more focused and simply less in the way. For over 30 years AudioQuest has pioneered the use of superior metals; yet even we were surprised by the huge leap in performance made possible with Perfect-Surface Technology. PSC+ simply outperforms all previously available copper metals at any price. All of Yosemite's conductors are solid. Electrical and magnetic interaction between strands in a conventional cable is the greatest source of distortion, often causing a somewhat dirty, harsh sound. Solid conductors are fundamental toward achieving Yosemite's very clean sound.

FEP AIR-TUBE INSULATION (FEP is a Fluoro-Polymer): Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation and circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then later released as distortion. All of Yosemite's conductors use Air-Tube insulation because air absorbs next to no energy, and FEP is the best extrudable solid insulation and absorbs less energy than other materials. The FEP Air-Tubes used in Yosemite have almost nothing but air around the solid PSC+ conductors.

DIELECTRIC-BIAS SYSTEM (DBS, US Pat #s 7,126,055 & 7,872,195 B1): All insulation slows down the signal on the conductor inside. When insulation is unbiased, it slows down parts of the signal differently, a big problem for very time-sensitive multi-octave audio. AudioQuest's DBS creates a strong, stable electrostatic field which saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This minimizes both energy storage in the insulation and the multiple nonlinear time-delays that occur. Sound appears from a surprisingly black background with unexpected detail and dynamic contrast. The DBS battery packs will last for years. A test button and LED allow for the occasional battery check.

CARBON-BASED 3-LAYER NOISE-DISSIPATION SYSTEM (NDS): 100% shield coverage is easy. Preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment's ground reference requires AQ's Noise-Dissipation System. Metal and Carbon-Loaded synthetics prevent most RFI from reaching the equipment's ground plane.

ASYMMETRICAL DOUBLE-BALANCED GEOMETRY: Purpose designed for single-ended applications, Asymmetrical Double-Balanced Geometry offers a relatively lower impedance on the ground for a richer, and more dynamic experience. While many single-ended cable designs use a single path for both the ground and the shield, Double-Balanced designs separate the two for cleaner, quieter performance.

COLD-WELDED, DIRECT-SILVER PLATED PURE RED COPPER TERMINATIONS: This plug design allows for a connection devoid of solder, which is a common source of distortion. Because the ground shells are stamped instead of machined, the metal can be chosen for low distortion instead of machinability. Red Copper offers a cleaner, clearer sound over nickel-plated or OFHC metals commonly found in competing manufacturers' plugs. Direct-Silver Plating offers one more important step toward greater clarity and doing no harm to the signal.

What guitarist Laurent Lebec has dubbed the most perfect synthesis of everything weve done to date, sonically, What We All Come To Need is a giant step forward within the complex, intricate, beautiful and crushing sound Pelican is famous for. The album features more guests than have ever appeared on a Pelican release before: Greg Anderson of sunn O))), Aaron Turner of Isis, Ben Verellen of Harkonen and Helms Alee and Allen Epley from The Life & Times and Shiner. Content-wise, Lebec says there is a current of inspiration that feels particular to each albums music and titles. Though we lack a singer, the song names are often conceptual. This new album speaks to a rapidly decaying world, the fulfillment we find in each other, as well as the resolve to move beyond disillusionment.

Get Literally And Figuratively Closer To The Music Of Santana's 1970 Masterwork: Set Ranked By Rolling Stone As 205th Greatest Album Of All Time Includes Black Magic Woman And Oye Como Va

Abraxas stands alone as the consummate Latin rock album. The confident sound of Santana stretching out and carving out a distinctive new genre, the 1970 set is daubed with psychedelic accents and Afro-Latin grooves. Not surprisingly, Abraxas immediately captured the public's ear, spending six weeks as the nation's #1 album and spawning the cosmic "Black Magic Woman" as a Top 5 single that's since become one of the most widely recognized songs in history. Befitting such a classic, Mobile Fidelity's 45RPM 2LP version of this ambitious work presents the music in the richest, most dynamic and realistic sound it's ever enjoyed.

Improving upon the label's critically acclaimed 180g LP pressing, Mobile Fidelity's deluxe 45RPM set is mastered from the original master tapes and overflows with the information, clarity, textures, and colors afforded by wider grooves. The result: Spacious, airy, and you-are-there sonics that trump all prior versions. Experience Abraxas the way it is meant to be heard, with the instruments and musicians placed in the proper channels. In addition to correcting the imaging, Mobile Fidelity's collectable version captures the full tonal range of Santana's guitar and nuances of his distinctive touch. Every imaginable detail is brought to the forefront and properly scaled, bringing you closer to the music and enhancing your emotional connection to this legendary record.

A confluence of celebratory vibes, bluesy jams, mellow vocals, and hip-shaking grooves, Abraxas is a cornerstone of any music collection. Picking up on the momentum of its excellent 1969 self-titled debut and drifting into more versatile territory, Santana reimagines what's possible in melding various disciplines and styles. Mysticism and spirituality abound amidst cohesive performances involving a vibrant mÉlange of purring organs, conga beats, and fluid bass lines. And that says nothing of the bandleader's extraordinary playing.

Wild, free, and loose, the group conjures the feeling of mountains and rivers on the lead-off instrumental "Singing Winds, Crying Beasts," leads a salsa parade on the definitive version of Tito Puente's "Oye Como Va," and explores its sensual side on the stellar showcase "Samba Pa Ti," a tune indicative of the album's Latin vibes and percussion. Sonically, Abraxas takes advantage of studio techniques such as cross-fading and mixing lacking on its predecessor.

As stated in The Mojo Collection: "Dissatisfied with the sound of their debut, the group brought in as a co-producer veteran jazz engineer Fred Catero, whose skills proved invaluable in balancing the new range of musical flavors Santana [was] bringing into its sound: the result was a giant step on from [the band's] debut."

But just like 1969's equally essential Santana, Abraxas lays claim to one of the biggest (and unfortunate) production gaffes in music history. Until Mobile Fidelity fixed the error with its 180g LP and 24K Gold CD releases, Abraxas had never been heard correctly. For nearly four decades, copies were produced with the left and right channels reversed, meaning that everything was placed in a backwards manner. This even extended to compilations on which individual songs from Abraxas were included. Rest assured that, in addition to enjoying reach-out-and-touch it sound, this 45RPM 2LP edition gets all the specifications exactly right.
