With Solo Piano, Glass presents himself unplugged - no electronic keyboards or synthesizers, and no overdubs, either - just solo piano. Metamorphosis was written in 1988 and takes its name from a play based on Kafka's short story. Its second track, Metamorphosis Two, formed the basis of one of the main musical themes in the film The Hours. It is also the song that the American rock band Pearl Jam uses as their introduction music to concerts.
Mad Rush was written for the occasion of the Dalai Lama's first visit in New York City. Wichita Vortex Sutra is the result of a chance meeting between two long-time friends, Glass and poet Allen Ginsberg, in a bookstore in the East Village. 'We decided on the spot to do something together, reached for one of Allen's books, and chose the poem Wichita Vortex Sutra'.1. Metamorphosis One

OVSE-MOVC-022xRavi Shankar & Philip Glass
Passages is a collaborative chamber music studio album co-composed by Ravi Shankar and Philip Glass, released in 1990. The album is a hybrid of Hindustani Classical music and Glass' distinct American minimal contemporary Classical style.
A collaboration between an avant-garde modern Classical composer and a traditional Indian/Hindi composer/performer seems pretty unlikely. However, Passages works splendidly. Shankar's smooth style fits nicely with Glass' dissonant orchestrations.
The album reached a peak position of number three on Billboard's Top World Music Albums chart. Recommended to fans of other minimalist composers such as John Cage, Steve Reich and Terry Riley.1. Offering

Philip Glass: Piano Works (Awaiting Repress)Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson pays tribute to the master of minimal music, Philip Glass. Ólafsson was one of a handful of young pianists selected by Glass to perform all of his Etudes together in London, and the reviews were ecstatic. The Financial Times claimed, "Best of all was Ólafsson in the supersensitive stillness of Etude 5." In addition to the Etudes for solo piano, the album includes reworks of the originals for piano and string quartet. This recording is now available on vinyl.LP 1

Glass HousesStill Rock and Roll to Him: Joel Toughens Up and Increases the Animosity, Sarcasm, Confidence, and Rock on 1980 Set
Accessible and Angry: Phil Ramone's Stalwart Production Bristles With Boldness, Raucousness, and Directness on Definitive Mobile Fidelity Reissue
Chart-Topper Certified Seven-Times Platinum: Includes "You May Be Right" "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me," "Don't Ask Me Why"
Elvis Costello long had a reputation for being the "angry young man." With apologies to the former Declan McManus, he had nothing on Billy Joel's Glass Houses. Fed up with inexcusable critical backlash and believing he'd still not been regarded as a serious artist, Joel ratcheted up the angst on the 1980 set that, oh, by the way, happened to sell another seven-million-plus copies and top the Billboard charts. Revenge is sweet.
An integral part of Mobile Fidelity's Billy Joel catalog restoration series, Glass Houses is mastered from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g LP at RTI. Honing in on producer Phil Ramone's radio-tailored albeit looser, straightforward production, this edition opens up the previously veiled soundstages, spotlights the clean yet raucous arrangements, and decongests the imaging so that every note comes to the fore. Thanks to the extra-wide grooves and meticulous remastering, Joel's urgency and temperament have never sounded so vibrant.
In addition to firing shots at detractors, Joel further solidifies his reputation as a pop maestro on the hit "Don't Ask Me Why" and mellow classic "C'etait Toi (You Were the One)," each replete with sparkling structures and shimmering melodies. Throughout, he dials down the grand gestures, focusing more on an attitude and directness. At the time, Joel was conscious of the punk movement, and seems inspired to follow that genre's preference for simplicity, frankness, and irritability. The album's legendary artwork-the singer preparing to toss a brick through the windows of his house-is a metaphor for Joel shattering his image as a cocktail-lounge pop crooner.
Such changes are evident in the now-signature "You May Be Right," a hard-rocking and scathing rebuttal to a romantic partner on which Joel embraces the identity of a tough-skinned madman that won't stop at anything. He inhabits the role with convincing theatrics, his voice mixing pushiness, smugness, self-evident humor, and cool that fits the resistive tone of the record's songs. Glass Houses is Joel's megaphone for stubborn independence, dogged assertiveness, and blustery confidence.
It's also an announcement of artistic intent, a statement that's simultaneously catchy and barbed, well-crafted and rowdy. And it succeeds on all levels, bringing to commercial pop-rock a brashness and grit often absent from fare that sticks in your head for days. Joel would never be seen the same way again.

"It's a punk rock rush, a fundamentally teenage blast
of endorphins that, if you're wired a certain way,
you can't help but feel every time their guitars lock
into a riff and the drums get rolling. Even when it's
complicated, it's simple."
- Stereogum, "Behind the Scenes
of Fucked Up's Fourth Album"
On their fourth album Toronto's Fucked Up pare things
back to a single LP. In contrast to the sprawling epic
of their last album, the punk rock opera David Comes
To Life, the new album returns to rock'n'roll basics,
verse-chorus-verse-chorus. It also features guitar
solos, mellotron and piano.
Recorded for the first time in analogue, with Bill
Skibbe (The Dead Weather, The Kills, Lower Dens,
Andre Williams), the album is bathed in a warm,
almost romantic glow. In particular, Jonah Falco's
virtuosic drumming shines forth, each snare hit
shattering the air. Damian Abraham's throaty growl is
not less punk, but the overall effect is a more human,
relatable Fucked Up.
While the imagery still includes the usual high-concept refrences (not least to classical mythology),
Abraham and Mike Haliechuk's lyrics mostly address
the puzzle of being in a punk rock band while having
children and being in their early 30s. "So this is what
it'd be like? Everything bathed in a harsh bright light?
Why is the impact so immense? Maybe I know it
could have been me instead."

Close to the GlassThe Notwist's Close to the Glass, their eighth album, is a catchy and
unpredictable marriage of playing your heart out on an instrument and
the magnetic pulse of precise programming. We now find The Notwist
defining their edges with no shortage of bravery or beat. As romantic as
it is robotic, Close to the Glass is a bottomless collage: part pop song,
part science, part band, part storytelling and all Notwist. Brothers Markus
and Micha Archer, alongside Martin Gretchmann, Max Punktezahl and
Andi Haberl, have finally found their human form and, at last, 'become'
The Notwist began as a metallic hardcore band in 1989. Markus and
Micha have always been at the core of the band; Gretchman joined in
1997, and the band has been through countless collaborations and side
projects (Lali Puna, Console, Ms. John Soda, to name a few), constantly
pushing themselves both in those projects and as The Notwist. Their
sound has transformed hugely over the years, becoming progressively
catchier and incorporating the members' love of folk, classical, rap, rock
and electronic music.
Now, in 2014, we find The Notwist following up 2007's The Devil,
You + Me with their most adventurous record yet. The strong connection
and trust between band members allowed them to blur the lines between
their roles more than ever. With everyone playing anything, the band
could take their music anywhere, from sheer noise to kraut-rock beat
pocket to arena rock ride out. Close to the Glass is also full of vocal leaps
for Markus Acher, experimenting not only with effects but also with his
range, leaving the comforts of his signature style to take the music
somewhere new. Close to the Glass reflects and reveals the truth about
The Notwist more than ever, in its collage nature, pop-music moments
and unpredictable structures. It feels as good in expensive headphones
as it does in the trunk, a seamless soundtrack for that movie always

Litmus / Glass LoveAs part Anthology Recordings' Surf Archive series, we celebrate the soundtracks to Andrew Kidman's classic 1996 film Litmus alongside his 2006 follow up Glass Love. By the early '90s, surfing was on an upswing in popularity as professional surfers became marketable athletes. The three-fin, high performance, "thruster" shortboard was the tool of choice, lending to a fast-paced slashing style and ultimately a more aggressive "surf and destroy" movement in board culture. Litmus, Andrew Kidman's first avant-garde surf film, served as a soulful reaction to the pop-punk progression that dominated the "alternative" mainstream. Prior to filming Litmus, Kidman's band, The Val Dusty Experiment, recorded a total of thirty-five songs in one day. The outcome of the "one-and-done sessions was a lo-fi, rustic, experimental rock 'n' roll sound, adding a rough-around-the-edges ambiance to the surf scenes that span Ireland, Australia, California, and South Africa. Additional contributions from Galaxie 500, Yothu Yindi and The Screaming Orphans diversify the score. Litmus was a defining moment in surf filmmaking -- it sparked an open-minded retro-progressive movement as surfers formed a higher consciousness about the types of boards they were riding and why. Kidman released his second film, Glass Love, ten years later. As with Litmus, the music came first; Kidman felt his songwriting was ready to take on a new life. Thanks in part to Litmus, experimentation in board design progressed as surfers became more contemplative, questioning, 'is surfing art or sport?' Glass Love and its soundtrack highlights this mindset and time period, creating an extra dimension to surfing that is still prevalent today.Litmus

Through A Glass DarklyTwo essential recordings from Radiophonic Workshop members Paddy Kingsland & Peter Howell get the reissue treatment on June 2nd with the vinyl only release of Kingsland's exceptional 1973 album Fourth Dimension, alongside fellow member Peter Howell's ARP synth opus, 1978's Through A Glass Darkly. Both of these albums have been crate diggers' gold for many years and are reissued for the very first time.
The BBC Radiophonic Workshop came together in 1958 to produce music and sound effects for BBC Radio and Television programmes using hand built, custom designed electronic, tape and electro-acoustic techniques. By the mid-1970s, the synthesiser era was well-and-truly here, with the Workshop increasingly being asked to provide theme tunes and background music for TV and radio.
Production on Peter Howell's first solo album Through a Glass Darkly started in 1977, with Peter given the opportunity to develop a new suite of compositions specifically to cover one side of the album, albeit on a typically tight BBC time schedule and virtually non-existent budget! The album stands shoulder to shoulder with Vangelis's Beauborg and Jean Michel Jarre's Equinoxe, in terms of its influence and pioneering use of synthesizers.1.Through A Glass Darkly - A Lyrical Adventure

Considered by Pete Townshend to be his first 'real' solo album 'Empty Glass' was also to become his most commercially successful. Whereas 'Who Came First' was a devotional album and 'Rough Mix' a collaboration, Townshend had no such restrictions on this 1980 release. Coming after Keith Moon's death the album sees Townshend at his most emotional and rawest as he publicly acknowledges his own addictions and exorcises his demons.
The album was written while Townshend was also trying to write new material for The Who and complaints were raised in some circles that he was keeping the best material for his solo work. The album certainly contains songs that would have worked for the band (a version of the title track was actually recorded by The Who) but the personal investment in the material by the composer shines through. The album spawned three singles including the top ten US smash 'Let My Love Open The Door' as well as 'Empty Glass' and 'A Little Is Enough'.1. Rough Boys

Citizen Of GlassDanish-born singer-songwriter Agnes Obel is back with her highly anticipated third studio album, Citizen Of Glass. Featuring lead single 'Familiar', the album was recorded, mixed and produced by Obel in Berlin.
Obel was at an early age guided into music by the influence of her parents, who would play and listen to a blend of the classical greats, folk music and contemporary pop. She learnt to play piano as a child but it was her move to Berlin in 2006 that prompted her to take her music to the next level. Her debut Philharmonics was released in 2010, a quiet phenomenon that spent seven consecutive weeks at number 1 and sold in excess of 100,000 copies in her homeland alone. The release of Aventine in 2013 cemented her status as a household name across mainland Europe and as an icon to piano players throughout the world. With combined sales of over a million copies of her first two albums and in excess of 250 million track streams, plus critical acclaim and commercial success already under her belt, she is now perfectly poised for true breakthrough success in the UK and US too.
Already respected by an impressive list of musicians and media, Obel remains a truly global artist with a rare ability to connect with a broad audience across many boundaries.1. Stretch Your Eyes

Orange Mountain is pleased to announce for the first time on vinyl Philip Glass's 1998 score to the 1931 film DRACULA starring Bela Lugosi. For his new score, Philip Glass tapped the all-star Kronos Quartet and wrote specifically for them. In the late-1990s Universal Pictures approached composer Philip Glass to compose a new score for one of its classic monster movies. Glass chose to compose a score for Tod Browning's 1931 Dracula because it never had an original score. He composed the work for string quartet to evoke an ancient sound and now almost 20 years later Glass and Kronos continue to perform the music live to film around the world. In the end Glass's music gave the film new life, perhaps adding something that had been missing before there was music: structure and pacing and above all a new sense of mystery and soul.
DRACULA album was originally available on Nonesuch in the late-1990s.
This is the first time DRACULA is available on vinyl.

Weird and mournful yet highly rhythmic, Brooklyn's
Glass Ghost offers dance-friendly art pop.
- TIME OUT NEW YORK
...that irresistible, disjointed mix of pop hooks and
...an affecting, gently aspirated bedtime piece...In
tune and percussion it struck me as the nocturnal
cousin to Merriweather Post Pavilion's Guys Eyes.
...a fractured bit of art-pop featuring...intoned
falsetto over some spare production and airy beats.
Since the release of their debut album Idol Omen in 2009, Glass Ghost's founding members Eliot
Krimsky and Michael Johnson have kept busy. In addition to playing dozens of shows, including
a tour with White Rabbits, Johnson joined Dirty Projectors as their new drummer, Krimsky has
been collaborating with Here We Go Magic on keys, and the duo welcomed two new members to
the group, Tyler Wood on keyboards and percussion, and Aerial East on vocals. Like their debut,
LYFE was produced by Tyler Wood, who also produced Joan As Policewoman's 2014 album The
Classic. For the LYFE recording sessions, the group recruited many of their friends to contribute, including Joan Wasser of Joan As Policewoman, Nat Baldwin of Dirty Projectors, and
Christopher Tignor of Slow Six and Wires Under Tension. Pushing their songs to new levels by
working with Brooklyn's musical elite is nothing new for Glass Ghost. They worked with more
than a dozen of their friends from Brooklyn's music community, including Sharon Van Etten
(who in 2011 noted "Eliot Krimsky is one of my favorite writers."), Here We Go Magic's Luke
Temple, and Matt Iwanusa of Caveman, for their debut which was described by the New Yorker
as "elegant compositions of frosted indie pop," and by Time Out New York as "weird and mournful yet highly rhythmic.
On their new album LYFE, Krimsky (who's currently working on his M.A. in Media Studies at The
New School, where he's exploring the convergence of technological mediation, identity and
music) turns his observations of the absurd and mundane into metaphors about living in a
world where every detail about your life is harvested, quantified, and used by marketing companies to manipulate your behavior. Rather than sounding didactic or overly intellectual, the
songs provide windows into the band's internal world, as Krimsky's tender falsetto glides over
the icy landscapes of synths, strings, woodwinds, and regal horns. As the product of Krimsky,
Johnson, and Wood's mutual trust, vision, and relentless attention to every detail, LYFE masterfully blends airy, melancholy, and chilly atmospherics with Glass Ghost's irresistible bottom-heavy grooves and hooky pop sensibilities.1. Life Is For The Living

ZabaCreated in Epworth's own studio it is undoubtedly among this year's most striking debuts. The title, lifted from Dave's favorite childhood story, comes from
William Steig's The Zabajaba Jungle. Steig's evocation of childhood adventure, exoticism and discovery is brilliantly fresh. ZABA is one complete beast
and a journey you will get most from if you immerse yourself fully and listen from start to finish. The sound of the record, Dave says, is like a backdrop
of man-made wilderness...
Influenced by the exploratory, New World scenarios of Apocalypse Now, The Island of Dr Moreau, Heart of Darkness, The African Queen and Mosquito
Coast, ZABA's songs tackle the humanization of nature and human interference with nature. Even now a lot of my favorite books are those books that I
grew up with, he says. Things like Zabajaba, like Roald Dahl, like Wind in the Willows. I suppose all I've been doing is using those little creatures and
animals to cover up what I really meant, to disguise who and what I was really talking about.
Inspired by Kanye West and Charles Darwin, Nina Simone and the Velvet Underground, ZABA is a rich and textured work, a very special record indeed.
With Dave producing and Epworth as A&R and mentor, the studio became their home and the band were free to record, improvise and write at their own
speed, making their sound a bigger, brighter, heavier and more intense experience than ever before.
The first single, Gooey is wobbly and child-like, a hymn to naivety. There's a confidence in the way children act, Dave says. I was trying to push that
confidence into the beat. Walla-Walla goes back to Dave's love of Timbaland and Dr Dre, while Intruxx, initially the introduction to the entire record,
summarizes this entire new world you're entering.1. Flip

The hushed, emotionally raw "Winter" and Closer from his 2006 album, We Were Here received a four-star review in Rolling Stone Magazine. Radin's compositions have a proven track record having been sound-tracked on shows like Grey's Anatomy, American Idol and House. His songs have been used more than 100 times in various films and television shows making him a 'behind the scenes' artist whose music is heard most everywhere.
In 2008, Ellen DeGeneres asked Joshua to perform at her wedding. Radin said, "I played six of my songs and Ellen and Portia just sat right in front of me looking at each other, crying, and looking at me. I actually teared up a little-that's never happened to me before."
Live performances have always been Radin's lifeblood. After stints as a screenwriter in New York and as an inner-city art teacher in Chicago, he moved to Southern California to test the waters as a musician. "More than drawing, I taught those kids in Chicago a general perspective of the world-looking at something and not being overwhelmed. And it's how I've always looked at life," he says. "I've always wanted to wake up every day and have the opportunity to be creative, to express what's going on in my head and heart, and to be able to connect with the world in that way. I may have started playing music later in life than my peers, but I love living with the idea that it's never too late."
When his father gave him a guitar on a whim for his birthday, Radin taught himself how to play. Soon after, in 2004, he wrote his first song, "Winter," about a fractured relationship with his longtime girlfriend. The song so moved his college friend Zach Braff, that the actor passed it along to a producer on his TV show, Scrubs. Three weeks later, it was played on the show. Buzz from the Scrubs show was fast and furious, crashing the NBC site and winning Radin thousands of new fans. Afterward, he worked hard to build a grassroots movement on social-media sites and continued to build his fan base.
For various albums, Radin has recruited 'dream teams' of musicians to enhance his sounds. Among them: pianist Benmont Tench (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), drummer Jim Keltner (Bob Dylan, John Lennon), and string arranger Jimmie Haskell (Simon and Garfunkel). Joshua has sold over two and a half million singles and over 700,000 full-length albums.
In 2015, Radin releases his sixth studio album, "Onward and Sideways." His first single, "Beautiful Day" features a duet with American, singer songwriter Sheryl Crow.1. We'll Keep Running Forever

Directed by Josh Trank, and screenwriters Jeremy Slater and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class, X-Men; Days of Future Past, Sherlock Holmes), The Fantastic Four is a contemporary reimagining of Marvel's first, and longest-running superhero team.
The Fantastic Four score developed from the inquisitiveness of the film's young protagonists. Working together with living legend Philip Glass, composer Marco Beltrami (Wolverine, Hellboy) explains, ''What we were trying to achieve musically was the spirit of curiosity and innocence. We were inspired by the film's scientific exploration from the point of view of these young characters, and how their curiosity develops into a position of power.''LP 1

Low Symphony, composed by Philip Glass in the spring of 1992, is based on the record Low by David Bowie and Brian Eno, first released in 1977. Glass took themes from three of the instrumentals on the original and, combining them with his own material, used them as the basis of three movements of the Low Symphony. Movement One comes from Subterraneans, Movement Two from Some Are, which was not featured on Bowie's original recording, and Movement Three from Warszawa.
The Low Symphony was performed by the Brooklyn Philharmonic orchestra under the batons of Dennis Russell Davies, principal conductor, and Karen Kamensek, assistant conductor. Philip Glass allowed ideas of Bowie and Brian Eno, who worked together on Low, to influence how he worked on the music, leading to surprising musical conclusions and becoming a real collaboration between the music of all three maestros. This is the first ever vinyl issue of Low Symphony!1. Subterraneans
